Gameplay Trailer for Sonic Generations

I'm psyched for this.

Classic is all bouncy, happy and adorable. I do hope he does have a little sass and 'tude to him too. I wonder what his inital reaction to Modern will be...

Impressions seem to be positive so far. One thought; I know they are focused on Classic, DC and recent years...but surely they can't entirely rule out the Saturn years right? I'ld really dig HD Resort Island with Classic Sonic and Modern having a race or something like that.

I really hope Tails, Knuckles and Amy get a proper look in. Regardless of what some people think of Sonic's friends, I'ld be saddened to think SEGA would write them out of history : (

Ok so on this video... and put the audio to mute and then get it to 0:10

Then load up this video.

Press play on that one then switch back to the trailer and press play.

I was quite suprised at how well they go together. It's not perfect but... smile worthy. If you don't switch back to SatAM... the cheers at the end are pretty much the reaction to the video on the whole.

Gotta love how the videos even ended at the same time XD

It's like it was meant to be

Um... guys? To all the people saying M. Sonic is all just speed, you should remember that we havn't even seen a full level yet, and if we did, it's Greem Hill Zone. Speed central. Even in the classics, Green Hill was more speed than platforming. It's the first level. Also there are SA levels most likely. In other words, don't jump to conclusions yet.

Oh and +1 to Hogfather. Awesome! :D

M.Sonic most likely is all speed, just like Unleashed HD. I know it had some platforming, but really it was a good 90% speed. And which C.Sonic having wonderful classic gameplay, I have no qualms with this whatsoever.

I am really surprised about those gameplay videos.

This game seems stunning, but there are just 3 things that I WANT

- Modern Sonic gameplay should take some elements form SA style. I don't want an Unleashed clone where you just have to boost and boost. Please SEGA, listen to us just a little bit. It's just a little effort

- Classic Sonic shoud introduce some little gimmicks like the shields in Sonic 3...I wouldn't want the game to be boring as hell with just running, spin dashing and jumping few times

- I want other characters to be playable as extras (different skin for sonic plus maybe some other abilities)...I WANT Classic Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman

That's a big assumption off of not much gameplay. For all we know we will see a lot more platforming from Modern sonic in later levels. A lot is still up in the air.

*watches, reads, watches some more and then discusses with friend*

Awesome stuff all around and I can't wait to see more, the only problem that my friend has with this though, is that you're basically giving us the same character twice when both can do the same if given. So he's less excited than I am.

I for one don't care, I just want a good platformer to play this year =P

(I got rayman to hold me over for a bit, still haven't completed it)

- I was in your boat until this gameplay came out actually, wanting to see Adventure style gameplay. But the contrast is in this game going to be very nice, since no matter whether you're playing as M.Sonic or C.Sonic the gameplay is still completely Sonicy at it's heart. The daytime levels in Unleashed HD (not the Wii version or Colours) are still insane fun for me even today.

- Maybe he will? Eh, I doubt it. I don't see why just running, jumping and spindashing would be boring though. Sonic 1 and 2 happened, didn't they? And besides, gimmicks within each level will ensure it's more than just that.

- You're sooooo not alone on this one.

Classic Sonic looks pretty sweet actually. It seems a bit too fast for it to be really true Genesis gameplay like they seem to be going for, but I guess I can understand trying to stick to the Unleashed gameplay. It looks like a good mix of speed and platforming and I like that.

Modern Sonic though, ugh, it honestly looks like a carbon copy of Unleashed daytime stages. While they were fun, at first at least, it seems like they took absolutely no cues from Colors and went backwards this time. Probably due to the fact this game probably was in development the same time Colors was. I really am not looking forward to another boost fest from Modern Sonic. And I'm getting really sick of the possibility of Sega not even trying to improve the 3D sections as they seem like kart racers YET AGAIN. So far it seems like the problem with Unleashed may be apparent here, and even Colors with many of its acts, trying to separate platforming and speed. Obviously, it won't be as bad though, as they are both still Sonic gameplay at heart. Just, I hope I'm proved wrong about Modern Sonic, and later levels really try and make his stages more interesting.

Seconded.

Seriously after Colors and now this, you don't think they are listening even a little bit?

I haven't jizzed about this enough yet, so... YELLOW SPRINGS! So glad to have them back. And all the springs in C.Sonics gameplay work like old springs instead of like the 3D ones. Love that attention to detail.

Actually, in the initial trailer, you see him hit the springs from the side. There's even one instance from the interview vid that's taken wholesale from Rush level design where goes through a downwards convex curve upside down, then hits a downwards facing spring which launches him into another spring facing right.

It's still faster. Just look at how quickly Classic Sonic reaches top speed, seriously. And that stage clearly has more platforming then what we've seen of Classic Sonic so far. Classic Sonic in this game looks to have far more automation then any levels in the Genesis games has.

Automation? I don't think so... C.Sonic does accelerate quick in this game, but there's still a number of months left for things to change. And even so, nothing looks bad or wrong.

I don't see the differnce in acceleration from the classics. Seems about the same to me. If it's not the same than it's REALLY close.

I never said anything looked bad or wrong. Honestly, I don't think automation outnumbers the platforming for C. Sonic, but I'm just saying it definitely is there. The game kind of looks very far in development. It's questionable on how far they really are willing to go in regards of changing the game. But it looks fine to me, it really does. I'm excited to play C. Sonic, honestly.

Way! That's what I like to hear! A little automation for the sake of cinematics can always be a good thing when used sparingly anyway. Things like grinding down the clock tower in Unleashed, or the whale chase in SA1 (essentially automated).

This trailer is full of scenery porn.

BTW, Makes me HATE the fact I don't have money for a 360 and being a Wii owner :B

I've always wanted to play HD remakes of classic zones so this will probably be a must buy for me. But first I need to save up for a 360.

I'm seriously hoping Dreamcast era gets some love. Dreamcast era is my favorite in the franchise history.

Oh God it would be brilliant if this came out a month or two before Skyrim. I would love to be able to pass the time waiting for that title with this great little treat.

Considering they says three eras of Sonic and the previews back this up as Classic, Dreamcast and Modern, that's a pretty safe bet for you to make. And especially since we know Escape From the City has been re-recorded... yeah.
