Pokemon X & Y (October 2013 on 3DS) - [Now out! Go out and play it already]

Uhh...I may have stopped playing the games at Gen 4, but I never had a instance where I was "to stocked up" on to many healing items (especially hyper potions and max revives), and in fact I had to use them sparingly to get through the Pokemon League Elite Four and what not, so I honestly don't understand this complaint at all really.

1) You can NOT buy Max Revives in ANY of the games. Revives on the other hand are incredibly cheap.

2) Hyper potions are cheap, Max Potions/Full Restores on the other hand a little more costly.

If you didn't have a billion dollars at the Elite Four, you must have passed up on a ton of trainers. Having tons of items available to pick up, tons of money thrown at you, amulet coin + mother savings, etc really gives you a huge advantage.

Im pretty sure I played the games right, just because you have a decent number of restorative items doesn't mean a lot of the more powerful Pokemon trainers like the Elite Four and some late Gym Leaders aren't still going to give you a hard time.

I always spent more money on Pokeball's and... I don't really know. I mean, I'm always pretty well stocked, but I've gotten plenty of challenge out of SoulSilver's gym leaders.

Last time I played Black, I had already maxed out my repel, hyper potion, and revive slots.  So yes, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing a more challenging economy in the game.  That being said, the accessibility of items isn't the only thing that makes the games easy.  I don't think the AI has improved much since the first generation, and maybe I'm just playing it wrong, but the movesets only ever seem to range from "miniscule attack that does little damage" to "mega, ultra powerful death blow."  Grimsely and Caitlin were considerably easy to beat with Sawk (using "Double Kick" and "Brick Break" throughout much of the battle) even when it's almost ten whole levels lower.

Slightly off topic: Opinion on three starters? Fennekin is the best (just hope it's not fire/fighting)! Yveltal is awesome so it's game Y for me, and Sylveon is probably a Normal type female version of another Eeevelution that we haven't seen yet. Now that's out of the way...

I'm never overstocked on items in any of the games, ever. I've always had consistently about 10-15 Hyper Potions and Revives. I've never gone over that limit, seriously. XD

Correction; You can buy one a day in Pokemon Black/White 2 if you level up the mart in your Join Avenue to a high enough level.

Ehhhhh.....

For once the starters are meh to me. I just hope they evolve into something bad ass to make it up.

I tend to have a lot of money by the end of the game since I don't generally buy too many items. I then end up buying more hyper potions than I'll probably need just before facing the Elite Four/Champion, heh. Maybe just have trainers give less money?? Except for the rich trainer classes at least.

I do think making the game more difficult would be nice ... or at least give an option for a challenge mode right at the beginning, perhaps making it a bit more complex than BW2 which generally just increased levels, gave some gym leaders another Pokemon or two, and that was about it. I'm really hoping for gym leaders that have a full team, too, at LEAST by the last gym if not the fifth or so. Seriously, Drayden, only three (a whooping four in Challenge Mode!! whoa!!!!) Pokemon? Seriously?

Yeah, kinda seems like Gym Leader roster have shrunken with each new generation.

I always give myself a bit of a selfimposed challenge on my playthroughs. I stock up on maybe 5-7 potions and revives and use them only when I need to, otherwise I just keep grinding.

I just checked my Trainer Card in Black 2 and found that I have over 600000 in Poke Dollars.

That cash accrues quick if you don't pay attention.

Still, with the series repeatedly stressing the importance of Link Battles and battling real people with each game, it's a bit understandable that the in-game details appear to be pretty lax, generous, and forgiving as far as difficulty is concerned. The essential goal of the game is to make a Pokemon team to fight other people with, so speedrunning or getting through the game with some degree of difficulty (such as being deprived of health restorative utilities) takes a backseat.

That said, I would like to see something to be done about it for X and Y, if only for the sake of variety. Maybe a difficulty option as you start a new file, akin to Fire Emblem's Classic/Casual split seen in recent installments.

Slightly off topic: Opinion on three starters?

Froakie is my favourite of the bunch this time. He's adorable. Fennekin is quite possibly my favourite fire-type started though. The only one I don't like is Chespin. He looks more like the token electric rodent than a starter. And even if not a starter, I don't really like Sylveon. But somehow it does look better in-game than in the art, so we'll have to see. I love having Eeveelutions on my team, and would rather use a new one than one of the ones I've already used a billion times over.

Like always the Fire starter was the one to caught my eye, I don't know why but it just clicked like Charmander and Torchic.

Chespin looks okay, not something extraordinary, it just looks goofy and that its a plus for me.

Froakie on another note its just... I don't know. He and Turtwig are the only starters that don't appeal me in any way.

Yvetal looks really, really cool. It is that type of Pokémon that I really like. Xerneas, not so much.

Sylveon seems to be the girly Pokémon that I always ignore until I use it for shits and giggles and start liking it.

They better start announcing more Pokémon, by this time when Black and White where announced we already knew about 5 or 6 Pokémon that weren't either starters or legendaries.

I just can't imagine Sylveon being any other type other than Normal. Flying is possible but...I just don't see it. If this is possibly a female version (too girly to be gender specific), then there must be a male version. There can't just be one Eeeveelution, there's always a duo.

Why is everyone thinking/wanting the new Eevee to be gender determined, that would be laaaame.

I like having girly-looking Pokemon be male on my team, it makes them seem more adorable I dunno.

With a name like Sylveon, it definitely seems like a Flying type to me. Nymphs and Sylphs aren't all female.

Female Steelix have only one pair of bottom mouth ridges/fangs though. :V

That reminds me though, gender differences were really hyped up in Gen IV, yet only Unfeazant and the Frillish family have gender differences among Gen V Pokemon. Makes me wonder if we'll see any more gender differences in Gen VI.

I hope so. And I'd actually like it if they retroactively added more gender differences. The differences are minute most of the time and they already did it in Gen IV. It's a nice touch.

Yeah I think I'm gonna stick with Sylveon being normal type. To me, it looks the part, and for some reason bows and scarves and the like make me think of normal-type Pokemon in the Pokemon world (maybe due to Pink Bow in Gen 2 and Silk Scarf in the gens after for boosting normal types idk). I know it's reaching, but just seems like it to me haha. That card move was pretty cool though, I wonder if it has like a luck based effect of some sort.

That card move could be Trump Card, a move naturally learned by Eevee, who itself is one of three Pokemon that can learn it by level up.

Could be how it evolves into Sylveon too, similar to how Tangela evolves by leveling up while knowing Ancientpower.

Time for rumors...again

First off, for those of you who screen capped the original thread, feel free to check my trip with that of the original. There have been multiple people posting as “Mr. XY’ lately, but I have not posted since the original thread.

Second of all, in the original thread I made this more clear, but my phrasing of the “main characters are named Jean and Jane, non-customizable” was meant to reference customizing their designs, not their names. Sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, I have compiled a list of all the New Pokemon I know of, about 80 or so of the 99. Some of them I have only heard about from fellow co-workers and second-hand sources, while others I have seen myself. Mainly, there’s a few “new line” Pokemon I have yet to see, or don’t have much information on, so there are some gaps left to fill. With New Evolutions and Baby Pokemon, there are also quite a few of them I’ve yet to see for myself, yet I have heard which Pokemon are obtaining them.

As I said before, this Generation has a large amount of New Evolutions and Baby Pokemon, while the New-Line Pokemon are less orthodox than previous Gens, bumping old Generational archetypes (there’s no real early-bird, rodent, or bug this time around) in favor of mostly new, or underused, type combinations.

There are a large amount of Old Pokemon present during the main campaign, the Regional Dex around 400 I believe including the New Pokemon. New Evolutions are, I believe, obtainable during the main campaign and not pushed towards the end like in Diamond and Pearl. On the note of Old Pokemon, Gen V Pokemon can be transfered over, although I do not know the exact mechanics of the transfer process.
