  • Knuckles Glides To The Top Of Paramount+'s Most Watched Original Shows

Knuckles sets Paramount+ ablaze with flames of disaster...ously high numbers!

When Knuckles was announced in February of 2022, we knew it was going to be a big deal. The question is, though, how big? Well, the numbers have come in for the show's debut weekend courtesy of Variety and needless to say: Paramount has a massive hit on their hands!

    image(86).thumb.png.8c8a35d848f61e02f9fb058bee30b443.png

With a record breaking 4 million hours over the first few days, Knuckles exceeded its fellow Paramount+ originals like Star Trek Discovery, Halo, Frasier and Evil as the platform's most watched exclusive series. This wasn't the only record Knuckles was able to beat however, as it is now the most watched family title period on the streaming service. This means legacy titles like SpongeBob Squarepants, The Loud House, and even the portly plumber himself with DiC's old Super Mario World cartoon all fell to the hands of this mighty echidna warrior.

While Knuckles indeed revels in the spoils of his glorious streaming conquest, he does share the riches with his fellow tribe, as the entire Sonic brand received a massive 278% increase in viewership across the entire Paramount+ platform. In the US, this includes both Sonic the Hedgehog movies, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, SatAM, and even Sonic Underground!

In fact, on the weekend of Knuckles' debut, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog received the biggest numbers of all of the hedgehog's legacy shows, making it to the top 10 of most watched Paramount+ shows on April 28th. That's so good!

With Paramount's recent comments on wanting to invest more on the Sonic Cinematic Universe, this will only further embolden their confidence in the Sonic brand and greenlight the existence of more shows and movies.

However this also comes as a big contrast to the mixed reaction of Knuckles among the Sonic community, one shared by our very own review of the series. With the abundance of humor that may or may not land, and a perceived lack of the title character to save money, choosing to instead focus on the human leads, could Paramount be emboldened to double down on these same divisive elements?

Paramount is currently in deep financial distress and words of a potential acquisition of the company are on the horizon, potentially by Sony who is planning a buyoutKnuckles' template for spinoffs could serve as a potentially profitable asset for whoever may end up owning the company. For better or for worse.

But for now, let us bask in the splendor of yet another streaming success.

What do you think of this recent development? Do you think this bodes well for the future of Sonic or Paramount? Let us know!

You heard it. The Knuckles show has hit over 4 million views, and thus setting a new record on the Paramount Plus platform. It may not have been the greatest show, even though I, myself loved it, but it is good to see this amount of views have been achieved, and if I recall, it got good ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, too. Maybe the ratings were why the show had so many views? Anyways, nice to see that the show has done well.

So, what do you all think of this?

Honestly, I don't think the show was that bad lol, Sure there are a few missed opportunities, and I feel like the show wasn't put to its full potential, But it was good in all, as a TV show. Sooo I think The Knuckles Show deserves everything it's getting :ok:

I hope this greatly changes the way SEGA views the commercial and critical viability of Sonic's friends and rivals on their own. It has been so long since any of them have gotten their own spinoff.

I also hope we can get more miniseries like this a Shadow and Blaze one would be great.

I love it!!! 💓 💓 Hopefully they will continue with this miniseries but have it focused on Sonic, Tails and Knuckles and their friends.  Maybe have some newcomers!

    Paramount+ has SatAM on it?

I mean, I already have the DVD box set, so it's not a selling point for me, but I'm honestly a bit surprised that Sega has the old cartoons on any streaming service, considering they're no longer considered canon and Sega's kind of picky about how their characters can be depicted nowadays...

Paramount has a licensing deal with DiC's parent company, Wildbrain... ironically enough to have their legacy content on the platform. This includes Mario World, Inspector Gadget and the old Sonic shows.

Thats impressive. Even more so when you have Strange New Worlds and The Frasier reboot on there which draws a big crowd.

I just hope more people like it than hate it. At the moment though I am in the "shrug" camp. Its ok. Nothing more.

I do think this is impressive.

Still, with how mixed the reception has been by fans and all, I do wonder how the reception for the Knuckles show will affect future shows achieving a similar amount of views in the future?

A massive success of any Sonic-related television series is a win for the franchise in my book, especially if it brings more attention to past Sonic series! And hey, just because Knuckles may not be quite the show everyone has wanted doesn't necessarily mean they won't tweak and adjust things for future projects--and it's pretty likely we're just getting warmed up when it comes to the expanded Sonic movie universe. I'm pumped, personally!

All 3 DiC Sonic shows and Sonic X are also available in their entirety for free on YouTube.

I will definitely take more spinoffs.

I like Rachel so I would take a spinoff with her and like Rouge or even Blaze.

I would actually take a Wanda spinoff provided she is with someone who is going to give her some needed character development. Tails would actually be really interesting given he still has to grow more confident in this continuity that might be an interesting pairing.

Well, I sure wouldn't.  Sonic characters shouldn't the ones serving as the supporting characters who exist to spur a human character's development.  Maybe it could turn Wanda into something bearable but I don't care about these people's OCs.
