Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing

Doctor MK

Recommended Posts

I said this over at Sega Nerds:

You (sega) nerds need to chillax on the "title change". It is still Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. The game will be listed as such and referred to as such at retailers and by Sega. "with Banjo-Kazooie" is just a call out to a bonus feature, no different from the "family games" label or a mention of bonus content.

I don't refer to the first pressing of Hydro Thunder as Hydro Thunder HOT! NEW!

Virtua Fighter 5 Online, Space Channel 5 Special Edition, De La Jet Set Radio, US Shenmue and No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise are examples of games that truly refer to themselves in the extended title, despite being basically the same game rereleased with a extra content.

Considering they've only just gone back up from the accursed downtime... :P:P:P

Out of curiosity, how often does that happen? Do they give you guys fair warning that you're going to be locked out of your own blog?

...Also, I know you're barred from mentioning it until any non-disclosure nonsense allows, but I am eagerly awaiting official mention of the Banjo-Kazooie news. Gonna be refreshing the Blognik all day/week, hopefully there'll be (at least) in-game screenshots of the bear and bird in that clunky-looking, red jalopy.

I think I love that title. The more unnecessary, hyperbolic garbage that a title has tacked onto it the more it somehow endears itself in my heart.

Too bad the first pressing of Hydro Thunder was TEPID! BROKEN! I have yet to complete a race as the disc errors. Too bad Midway is gone, I would like to participate in the exchange program.

Thats what I thought. Another "Touch Generation", just that its games for the whole family..

OH GOD! The german boxartwill be so overfilled ;_; Seriously, there will be no room for the box-art =O

Edit: The DS version is the most screwed. Especially if it (an Wii) get Mario. The "with SUPER MARIO!" will fill it up even more >_<

Look's like SEGA's Planet 51 Xbox 360 box art has got that Family logo thing too -

Guess its a new marketing strategy.

Now see, that is an example of a sell-out. SEGA using movie-based properties to make their games with?

I almost burned the backside of my Mario and Sonic instruction manuals.

Oh please... they're a videogame company trying to make money. They've made movie tie ins since the days of the Mega Drive and this is never going to stop ever. People who go on about selling out when companies do stuff like this really need to wake up and get a clue as to how things work.

Yeah it's a marketing thing in the US. Because believe it or not family games are becoming a rarity, particularly on the 360. Parents need more assitence in picking out games that are family friendly out of the flood of M rated games that we've been getting in recent months.

Surprisingly, Sega and Rare's marketing tactic worked! Before the rumors of Banjo-Kazooie, I knew and cared little about the series (I never owned and rarely played a Nintendo console). I passed up the XBLA releases as they were N64 ports, and not pretty flashy games.

Since the rumors and accidental reveal, I've downloaded demos of all three games and have been loving them! It's like Rayman, and I love Rayman!

Btw, more info on the Family Games label: http://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/familycentral.htm

You needed a Sega game to convince you that N64 era Rare games might be awesome?

Ah, so its a Microsoft thing? Phew, looks like the german DS Box is saved :D

Edit: Those people on the banner are freaky o.o. The chick on the right looks spacey, the boy looks like someone grabbed his nuts and the left woman looks crazy o.o..

No, I needed a Sega game to make me notice that it existed. Remember, I'm a Sega fan that happily lives in the Sega bubble. While kiddies were enjoying Banjo-Kazooie on the N64, I was salivating over Sonic Adventure screenshots.

Consider the Gamecube kids who didn't experience Sonic until 2004 with SADX

(I see you, S0L)

What I'd love to see is a store exclusive holographic slipcover, with the Sega cast in 3D.

I don't have nothing against B&K but I really want to read & talk about something else that could interest most of us...

Like... OBSTACLES!!obstaclesinnov.jpg

I wonder if the other stages other then the Curien Mansion will have other huge environmental obstacles like the dragon's.

I mean, the crabby in the 1st track is a nice and good nostalgia touch but for the other tracks it would be cool to have some kind of good challenge to plow trough or that we must escape/dodge in order to continue the race.

The casino track could have a path with giant coins/rings/pool balls rolling down in the middle of the path where the good ones gives you 10 rings/coins/SEGA Miles and the others knocks out 10 rings/coins/SEGA Miles or throw you off course.

There are tons of stuff Sumo & SEGA could have put in the game to impress or distract us during the race.

If I remember a track... there was a Billy Hatcher stage where giant eggs rolled down in a path from time to time crushing you if you didn't pass them in time.

What do you guys think would be in the other tracks as obstacles? What would you like as a challenging obstacle (even tho the game is almost finished)?

I wonder if there's gonna be time changing, like sunset at the beggining of the race and a a certain point it becomes night or begin at night and the its morning for the last lap.

Temperature changes would be cool too. To have strong wind to slow you down when racing at the opposite sideof the wind blow or accelerate when racing at the same side the wind blows.

Real time changes during the race makes things more interesting and can be used at your advantage depending on the character and his ride.

weather changes would be cool. you may unlock the possibility to change some weather condition in certain stages, just like sunny, night, snowy or rainy. Can you imagine Curien Mansion with the rain? or Seaside Hill with the snow??? Of course these changing would compromise the terrain, so that means more fun :)

You want weather changing just because you love Shenmue!

Imagine everybody takes out an umbrella whenever it rains.

Here's is my Christmas (reveal) wish list:

-Banjo-Kazooie

-other console exclusive characters

-at least one DLC Sega racer

-new track(s)

-release date

ps-I love Shenmue as well. Definitely rivals Jet Set Radio and Sonic in my Sega love-list. I imported the PAL version of Shenmue II a year before the Xbox version, then I bought and played the Xbox version. That's how much I loved the series.

I don't have to imagine snow in Seaside Hill... it was already in an M&S Dream Event.

But that was only a dream, we need to make it a reality!

Oh oh oh!! A weather option like in Sonic R?:

Random

Sunny

Morning

After-Noon (the sunset....)

Night

Rainy

Windy

Snowy

Mixed (the weather changes during the race)

I added more but meh, you get the point.

I'd like to see a JSR stage with the keystone-esque cops chasing after you or just getting in the way in the middle of the road for a lap or two. (I just really miss those guys, maybe that's just me.)

...Hazards/obstacles reminds me. This may have already been addressed in this 149-page-thread, and I'm still new here as of last week, but... am I the only one who's a little bothered that the weapons/items you're stocked with are displayed by hovering above your character on the track? And other racers/players, as well?

sonicsegaallstarsrac_112609_20474.jpg

It's not that big of a deal, really, but when a bunch of racers get bunched up in narrow straightaways (or close together in general) I can see that getting both confusing and annoying. I'd have preferred a HUD display option, myself. Anything to clearly separate them from the rest of the environment.

'Course, I haven't read anything where anyone has called that out as an annoyance after playing preview builds, so maybe I'm worrying for nothing.

(Don't let me distract from the hazards discussion, either!)
