I dunno. They certainly have their work cut out for them trying to explain exactly what the hell happened after Sonic CD.
What is there that needs to be explained, really? Eggman left Metal there, then he came back and repaired him...the end?

After SCD is E1 and EM.

I would laugh if sega attempted to make a sonic game with a plot that rivals KH3D'S complexity! Luckily E. metal in NO WAY looks like it will be attempting that. But a good story is still welcomed.

What else do we have to know besides that once Little Planet reappeared, Eggman went and salvaged Metal Sonic?

Maybe the point of Episode Metal's story is to elaborate on Eggman's grand scheme, and it's the kind of stuff that can't really be worked into Sonic and Tails' end of the story (if they're going dialogue-less then it'd might be easier to just having Metal Sonic find the stuff himself rather than try to work out ways to show Sonic and Tails discovering it).

Metal Sonic went to Splash Hill and glowed purple.

Metal Sonic went to Splash Hill Casino Street and glowed purple.

Metal Sonic went to Splash Hill Casino Street Lost Labyrinth and glowed purple.

Metal Sonic went to Splash Hill Casino Street Lost Labyrinth Mad Gear and glowed purple.

I expect that to be the limit of these cutscenes.

Mixed views for me.

On the one hand, there was this:

Awesome stuff right there. It proves that the physics of the game are competent enough to carry Sonic forward along varied sloped terrain. If you ignore that initial speed booster and just replace it with a spin dash or even a job -> run through the loop followed by a roll as the loop starts to descent there would've been enough momentum to carry Sonic the entire way.

On the other hand, there was this:

Need I say more?

Although that looks like lulz physics right there, it probably is just because the supersex will climb any slope without question and doesn't change direction. It's overpowered and programmed like that, not a physics oddity.

...

... am I defending S4 physics?!

*cough*

Yeah, I'm getting kindof excited for this game... It's looking tons better than ep1, that's fer sher.

You know, Ken could've misspoken about Episode Metal having more cutscenes than Episode 2. He could've been meaning to say it had more then Episode 1.

This the first real attention I've payed to this game. Yeah physics do look more competent but...is the stage supposed to force you automatically forwards like that? Even episode 1 wasn't like that...

Either that, or Episode 2 has just as many cutscenes as Episode 1, that is to say... one.

I don't know about you guys, but I wasn't satisfied. More cutscenes can be a good thing. They had 'em all over the place in Sonic 3 & Knuckles (and were unskippable at that!), so I don't know why it'll be a bad thing now. I can't imagine what else they'd be.

EDIT:

Its the Combo Roll Attack that's doing that, not the level itself. Its supposed to be an auto-accelerating attack that's similar to the boost, though its nowhere near as fast, and is used to burrow through snow (and possibly sand?)

New Dailymotion interview with Ken.

http://www.dailymoti...rvie_videogames

Wait a second, I just noticed something...

He said Episode Metal is about a quarter of the length of the game. That either means that there will only be 4 acts in Episode Metal or that there's gonna be an Episode 3.

I could care less for more cutscenes in Episode Metal, especially if half of them are gonna be

*silence* Metal appears, glows purple, red eyes glow, SPLASH HILL ZONE ACT 4 Another fucking adventure begins.

And the whole SONIC AND TAILS ARE BROS 4 LIFE, HERE'S THEM HIGH 5-ING EVERY TEN SECONDS is gonna get old quick. But if I'm only forced to do it once or twice a level then I'll ignore it.

I wonder if Episode Metal will have achievements or a special reward for episode 2 upon beating it.

Psh, don't care for what others think off-site its all just rawr/bitch/whine/oldfag talk. I care for what WE think here or at Retro. Did anyone else 'cept for 1 guy here that went to PAX?

And shouldn't we have a previews or a impressions topic? seems kind of off-topic to be posting those in a screens and videos topic.

I think this thread should just become the "Sonic 4 Episode 2 Megathread" or something along those lines because that's basically what it is now.

The whole point of the sub-forums is that we can easily split up topic and discussion. Considering how much we all talk about the game, it would definitely be a good idea to have a separate impressions and previews topic. This one should be for media dumping.

I see. In that case, that does sound like a good idea.

I really don't see what makes episode 2 so special. Episode 1 was horrible by a long stretch compared to what it was supposed to be. I think if things started with what episode 2 is, the thing would still be a huge dissapointment but really I think that episode 1's horrible standard forgives alot of episode 2's "averageness" if I may use that word.

I get that some may still be excited for this game, but I can only imagine it being remembered as a trainwreck in at least a year. I hope SEGA get their acts together and just forgetabout it if they're not going to take it that serious.

Looking at the bigger picture, what they've been doing is pretty horrible and damaging when it comes to promoting their mascot. Of course the classics will always remain just as great as they were, but I do feel sonic's name (well at least to me) has become rather worth less after s4. I mean in the literal sense that the character's value has dropped after they made that of a horrible sequel to s3k.

Really all you gotta do is startup s3k to realise what big of a different products we're dealing with. You wouldn't even want an episode 3 by this point

Edit: Also I wish Jun Senoue would just retire by now. The fuck was that?

For info:

At 3:00 theres some episode 2 footage (not much). It then cuts to a man sat on a toilet, jokes aside he talks about how he'll pretty much have a 'lets play' commentary video which is around 10 min long uploaded in a few days time from Mia the Sega Rep who was in charge of the episode 2 booth.

Sonic 4 isn't NEARLY as hated as you think...from a causal/general gamer perspective, they liked it and it sold very well on XBL/PSN/Yadda Yadaa. If anything it helped Sonic gain recognition.

While the quality of E2 depends how you look at it from a fan perspective....the game is leaps and bound better than the first already with a lot of major nit picks already proven fixed. This game will selll....

It will sell very well. Especially if the less than nit picky, we only want 2D Sonic, critics praise it to high heaven... which is already happening.
