They should totally have a Mario badnik. (Nostaglia.)

Sandworm?

Beetlejuice.png

Really nice to see some original designs, though. Color me impressed. I'm really hoping the gameplay measures up, because I like what I see.

Caterkiller 4.0

Just makes me think of this:

Even if the names are the same/similar, I'm really digging the badnik designs. They look so edgy and cool compared to some of the other badniks in the series like the Motobugs, but they also resemble the classics a lot.

I could see Scarabesque in both jungle (along with Serpentleaf) and desert levels, with Sandworm in the latter. It's great to see that the enemy designs do not disappoint so far.

I have to agree that they've nailed the design; it's a sort of complex simplicity, cartoonishly mechanical and obviously stylised. Plus bright colours that make no real sense and serve no conceivable purpose except to make them stand out on the landscape, which is more of a gameplay function. Badniks should look a little bit cute as well as dangerous.

Sandworm looks just right for leaping out of the sand to spear you when you walk over it. You probably see it occasionally poke its head out, and can spindash it... or perhaps jump over it, and when it dives out you can catch it in the head? Or maybe it'd be easier to just dodge it.

As for the now-seemingly-obvious desert level, it doesn't have to be a Sandopolis rehash. As pointed out by the Desert Dazzle references a couple of us have made, it could be a western desert - cacti, skulls, mountains. There'll still be some elements which you're never not going to have in a desert level, like quicksand, but there could be less in the way of ruins, for example, or such ruins could be just plain presented differently.

It's Sonic 4 and the Not-So-Re-Hashes.

Same names, similar appearance and it's very likely they'll do the same thing too. Fullboar and Rhinobot can be added to the list too. I'm not gonna complain though when the designs are that good, and when the classics did the same thing (Coconuts/Monkey Dude, Buzz Bomber/Buzzer, Chopper/Masher etc). Just so long as there are other very original ones like Steelion, Scarabesque and the Serpentleaf Boss we'll have the perfect balance.

Okay, so that's TWO badniks with old names. Sandworm was in Sandopolis, Aseteroid Coaster Wii and Planet Wisp HD. Something's not right here. Along with Spikes, maybe they're tryign to make a point that they can do rehashes right this time?

I have a solution for this problem.

I thought I read some where that Catakiller/sandworm was one of Eggmans favorite robot designs. If that's true then it doesn't surprise me that we have a new version of it

So I think so far we have a Jungle, Desert, and Water/Ice stage for a shoe-in. Loving these enemy designs so far, though!

Episode 1

Splash Hill - Green Hill/Sonic 1

Casino Street- Casino Night/Sonic 2

Lost Labyrinth - Labyrinth/Sonic 1

Mad Gear - Metropolis/Sonic 2

So for Episode 2, we might have:

(insert Jungle theme level here) -Angel Island/Sonic 3

(insert desert theme level here) -Sandpolis/Sonic and Knuckles

(insert ice theme level here) - Ice Cap/Sonic 3

Fullboar, that wheel, and Egg Serpentleaf would be in the Jungle level.

Scarabesque and Sandworm would be in the desert level.

Spikes and Steelion would be in the ice level.

Also, here's a recap of all the Concept Art so far:

I wonder which, if any of those, will have the ruins from that Archie cover ().

I'd say the Ice level, going by the colors.

I don't see the resemblance dry.png

WELL, it has the SAME NAME.

Looks like a worm.

Has spikes on it sides just like the sandopolis sandworm

Are you serious? Two hermit crabs with spiky shells and two spiked, segmented caterpillars. They even share share names.

Anyway, New Sandworm looks more like Fireworm than Old Sandworm. Angry eyes, downward side spikes, facial spikes, spikes along top of backs. Not to mention in that art, New Sandworm's tail is in a different position to the rest of his body, imply some sort of flying/swimming/crawling movement instead of jumping.

Now he's 20% cooler xD. SEGA sure knows what to equip characters with so that they would look badass! In other words, SEGA does what Nintendontbiggrin.png95a7154c.jpg

Please don't ask why I made this. I don't know that myself xD.

p.s. why is this space between words and pictures there?

Increasingly I think the same-name badniks are extensively remade versions of the same concept; they serve the same purpose as the old badniks but their make-up is re-envisioned. I don't mind that; it's not a direct imitation.

As for the level selection, we have to bear in mind that so far we have seen only one tiny, possibly edited glimpse of any true level geometry. "Jungle," "desert" and "ice" are extremely broad tropes; they could use exactly those concepts without them even looking remotely familiar to levels we've seen before, and even then we're only speculating about those themes (although I suspect they will be used).

Ok, that boss looks sexy (late, I know), & I'm loving the dung beatle & Sandworm Badnik designs! I really can't say anymore since everyone else has already covered them! =D
