CHOP CHOP

aka Ankle Biter

Level art from Facebook. Looks like definitely an Aquatic Ruin style zone with the pillars from the comic cover, Chop Chop and this:

Well, at least it doesn't have spikes on one side, unless the bumper acts like an Eggman Spring.

Show me where anything like that happened.

Some people have posted wondering if the underneath of the platform is a spring or bumper. I'm just pointing out how sad of a situation SEGA has left the fanbase in because of their idiotic marketing plan.

I wonder if one of it's new moves would be to ram it's chin at you when you get too close to it from underneath.

Maybe it's like the mid-air springs in the modern games that have a spring on one side and spikes on the other? You can either use it as a platform or a spring, and depending on the situation, one might be better than the other.

The bottom of the platform looks like a bumper. So maybe the platforms are temporary in the sense you can only jump off them once; if you need to reset your positioning and so you try to land back on it, too bad, the bumper knocks you off, perhaps into the water of the level if there is one. It's like Casino Night's and Carnival Night's bumpers in that way.

To be honest, I like this idea more, if only because I can see a lot of rage in LPs over it.

The badnik is kinda boring though. Hope next week's is better. (I expect one of those Orbinaut things or whatever the heck they're called any week now. :V)

You make it sound like there's an argument (or debate) going on.

While "Here comes the CRIMSON CHIN!" plays. I'm sorry, I won't get off-topic again.

But anyways, I seriously think the bottom is similar to a springs design it has some kind-of effect in the middle and it's red all around it the rest of it.

No, I wasn't suggesting there was an argument or a serious debate. I guess I should have said "that we're trying to work out the function" or something.

Chop Chop... meh. Too reminiscent of that Aquatic Ruin fish badnik. The Flip Platform, on the other hand, I do like. It should prove to be interesting... I hope.

so much rehash, brb gonna cry now

Actually at the moment I don't care, I like the designs for both. I'm just wishing (unreasonably) that when they said "redone graphics engine" they meant "everything looks just like the concept art". I would go gaga over a hand-drawn Sonic title.

It is the AR Badnik.

We wouldn't get anything fruitful from the concept art or anything to talk about if we just stood around thinking of all the alternatives to the phrase "Oh, that's cool" that we could say in a post. New material begets discussion, convoluted or otherwise.

Chop Chop's jaw reminds me of Mega Chopper/Kapu-Kapu's from Hydrocity a bit.

Anyway, I really don't find concept art of level gimmicks (or the likes of the tree from last year) very exciting, unless of course they're going to look really unique or something. Show us a bloody level.

They really shouldn't be repeating this marketing strategy for a sequel that really needs to prove itself after the problems with the first game. Plus, as you said, concept art isn't very exciting anyway. It's more something you would add as an unlockable in the game or release online like this AFTER release. This stuff being concept art also means that the things being shown might not have even made it to the final game anyway.

Hey guys, you know how S4:E1 blatantly ripped off the visual style of New Super Mario Bros, because at the time it was the big thing? Well, what if they're doing that again, but realizing that Rayman Origins is the big thing now?

One could only hope... now time to watch my hopes crumble.

I looked at that piece of concept art and got kind of hungry for salad.

I'm an idiot.

This busted my gut.

Thanks, Chooch. <3

Meh, Chop Chop is definitely uninspired, but I like the idea of a platform that flips back and forth between platform and bumper. Interesting mechanic.

I don't think I could handle that level of awesome. Ever since playing Origins I've been imagining how amazing a hand drawn Sonic game would look.

Meh, I can deal with less original badniks (come on guys it's not a complete rehash), as long as the water level it will most likely be in is original. The flip platform looks cool though, maybe a flip from bumper to platform gimmick?
