Concept Art Fridays

I don't think they'll spoil any other bosses; this is just a special one-off for Hedgehog Day. If the marketing plan didn't let them dish out anything better than concept art, they could at least dish out concept art of something special. At that, given the tropical theme, it's probably the first boss... I assume it's called the Serpentleaf as a reference to the Serpent in Eden. Maybe the first level will actually be named the Eden something zone? Or perhaps that'd be a bit strong. Theory: The Marble Garden wheels are in this zone, it is also the first zone, and whilst grassy-themed as usual it will also have a much stronger emphasis on flowers rather than the usual tropics. Looks to me like either the petals will snap shut to defend it from hits, or possible it has a first phase in which the petals are shut and only then does it open up and reveal the gun. Or quite possibly the petals are just decoration, but it'll make for a nice reveal - at best, a bit like the Mushroom Hill Zone boss.

God damn it, I need to trigger my memory. I feel like this boss looks just like something I've seen before, but my mind is pecking at what it is.

Anyway, this basically confirms my theory. After seeing the Boars and the Shell robots I was thinking we'd have a Jungle/Water stage, kind of prehistoric feeling. The boss has tubes for likely water and I bet the arena will be suspended above water, with those Oil Ocean-type tendrils coming from the depths.

I wonder if it'll look anything like how I've been imagining it in my head the last couple weeks...

Wooooooooow. SEGA fucked up again! What else is new? For real, this is horseshit. Are they really that incompetent to the point where they fuck up the continuity of every game and leave fucking massive plotholes? Take a look at this:

fuckpoop.png

It is an image from the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 website. Notice the underlined statement. "Due to Eggman's budget cuts, not all version of Bubbles are spiked". In the game, the unspiked Bubbles outnumber the spiked Bubbles. This further proves that Eggman's money woes are an important part to this game's story. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that this subplot is far more interesting than the bullshit with Sonic. He's a hedgehog that runs past signs and jumps into giant rings. So fucking what? Eggman's subplot has far more going for it, and it is something most of us out there can relate to. We feel Eggman's pain... we know what it's like to experience financial troubles. That's the beauty of his story, and it's what makes Eggman such a three-dimensional character. BUT NOW THEY'RE GONNA FUCKING RANDOMLY DROP THAT SHIT??

6791317907_4495a19a99.jpg

You mean to tell me that Eggman can't afford to put spikes into a little robot, but he's able to create something with an incredibly intricate design and massive scale like this? I'm sorry, but I don't fucking buy it. All credibility... all the realism... it all went down the fucking shitter. You had a good thing, SEGA, and you fucked it up. Way to go.

I am liking the boss art, original, which is always good, and it seems interesting. Hoping for a plant-themed level!

OH NO, THE APAROIDS HAVE INFECTED EGGMAN! QUICK, SOMEBODY CALL STARFOX!

Due to Eggman's budget cuts

Who the hell was even financing Eggman? Why would you finance money to a man who wants to create a Death Ball to destroy a Planet?

New concept art is beautiful! I love it! I hope the fight won't be similar to the Egg Viper though, but other than that this looks pretty sick!

Well Eggman has various Casinos (Casino Night, Bingo Highway, Circus Park) so he can generate revenue from that and he operates oil riggs( Oil Ocean) and doesn't he particially or fully own the Power Plant in Grand Metropolis

Um, I guess this is an as good as time as any and this is the best topic I could think of using....

I made this last week:

It's just an edit of Rhinotank, though. I had fun making it.

Uh, Eggman is the head of the Eggman corp/business/empire/dominator*shot*, OF COURSE he'll spend more money on "executive" things than his bitch little robots that will get destroyed anyways. The Boss machines have a far larger chance of survival, and hell, we're dealing with Eggman, he's selfish LOL. I don't see why this is such a big deal anyways, unless I missed the sarcasm XD.

And to echo Aptiva, I think it was more over people were complaining about complaints....that haven't happened yet LOL.

Yeah, it's not too hard to believe he was budgeting for Episode 2. And yeah he runs that Meteo-tech company for money right :3?

The tentacle part of the robot reminds me of the laser thing from Oil Ocean's boss.

Still, kickass design. After Episode 1 and Generations, its refreshing to see original stuff again.

This makes sense, but then you need to remember this...

Sonic-4-Casino-Street-Zone-Screen-5.jpg

Dr. Eggman installed a new casino in the unnamed island. (I shall christen it Tiddlywinke Isle)

On Tiddlywink Isle, there was no casino before, but Eggman put all of his money from previous casinos and carnivals into this bad boy. As other people went to the casino (who were conveniently placed off-screen during gameplay time) they were gambled out of their money. (While they had no money, their lifespan multiplied tremendously for some reason)

Even though the money was pouring in, the exchange rates on rings wasn't very good at the time, and even if they were, the entire scam wasn't done soon enough for Eggman to apply the money into his robot designs. So because of this, he had to cut the badnik production budget. Not only that, but he had to change his outfit: his casual pajamas with a cape were scorched after the collapse of the Death Egg, and without money to replace it, he had to resort to his formal military-esque parade outfit.

It takes time to build casinos and mechanical bases though, so in about... I'd guess a few months time, Sonic had aged to the point of developing green eyes, and his constant running across the planet caused him to slim down a bit. Eggman had to step back from the donuts to be able to afford his already low-budget badnik army, resulting in a slighly less round, but still egg-shaped figure.

By the time the events of Episode 1 were complete, Eggman had gained so much money from Casino Street (and the market had changed significantly) that he was able to fund the production of more original and dangerous enemies.

So much money, that he not only made more enemies and bigger boss robots...

...he also made a second moon.

That he put a tarp over so no one would see it.

This second moon would be later launched into space after the events of Sonic Adventure 2, after Eggman destroyed the original one (off-screen) completely.

I take cash, Sega.

I've seen enough- *shot*

Looks okay enough. Slightly reminds me of the first boss from Sonic Rush, except cooler.

I'm pretty disappointed though because I was expecting something a little more substantial. I've defended the E2 marketing up until now, but this time I'm actually annoyed.

Pretty cool looking, I'm actually kinda excited to fight it. Cool looking bosses don't excite me for the actual levels, however. I want to see how this plays before making any judgments.

Cool, but I'd have rather been surprised by it than spoiled. Oh well. It's nice that it's reminiscent of Egg Viper, and that it suggests a jungle level. I hope it sets itself apart from other levels in the trope.
