Archie Sonic Main Discussion

Its kind of weird how Eggman is able to take a blowtorch to Sally and basically alter Sally to any degree. To me that would make it impossible for Sally to be de robotisized. Like if her arm broke off and then she was derobotisized she would not have that broken off arm.

Its not the only reason. It would just be a by product of the conclusion. But I don't believe it. There is no reason to give her extra clothing.

Anyways, out of all this charmy debacle you guys missed the fact that issue #240's preview is up:

http://www.destructo...40-233768.phtml

Looks pretty good. The timeline is getting annoying with Universe, though. And I wish Bates would go back to drawing the main series, I don't like Butler's art.

One reason they point out is the fact that she is somewhat of a tomboy princess, and by just wearing a vest and boots, along with a short hairstyle is one way of proving that, which one would argue and agree is a valid point to make.

Tomboys run around without pants? Hm, I should befriend some.

I don't mind his art style. But I'm put off by the way he draws females. Not necessarily because I don't think he can. But because if he is tag teaming a story arc with someone else, his females (sans Amy) always have more human like proportions which I don't like. As seen in these preview pages with the wolf twins. In an SU issue I don't know who was the artist, Bates or Tracey perhaps? But those two of course make every character including the females adhear to the sonic style anatomy for the most part.

Even if Sally is a little more shapely than Amy most of the time they still have the pipe cleaner arms and legs thing going on. Or at least the Rouge physique who is probably the most humanesque Sonic style character in the games in terms of body shape.

Butler just goes all out with tall shapely legs and I'm like, 'wut?' and it makes his females look so radically different than the other characters. I ... don't like it. Sometimes It looks like Lita and Lyco's height will flux between artists as well. But I might just be seeing things.

Personally I like Steven Butler's art. I actually like his art style better then Tracy Yardley's. One area when I think that Butler does a great job is when it comes to drawing female characters. Tracy seems to have a hard time with the female characters.

I do perfer Butler's old style but his new one isn't bad either.

Bulter gets a lot of unfair hate.

You'd be surprised that not everyone is a furry, and likes seeing animals with supermodel esc bodies. That's a real turn off honestly.

I say if it gives me a boner, I don't give a fuck if it's a human, alien, demon, or anthro...

...wait, what were we talking about? Human-esque anthros in the Sonic comic?

The main thing I don't like about Archie's lack of grasp of the essence of Sonic character design is the way their characters really stick out like a sort thumb next to the SEGA characters because they are proportioned like humans, have ugly human-esque hair which is a huge design no-no in the games and don't tend to be vividly-coloured like the vast majority of SEGA characters, instead having colours identical to the real world animal.

I also really hate how their idea of a parent character is taking their offspring and putting a wig, tits and clothes on it. Though it was jolly good how Bernadette got a new design, it's very good IMO.

She went from this monstrosity...

To this vast improvement...

Great design. She looks pretty and feminine and distinct. They should get rid of her blond bangs though and make 'em violet so they don't clash as much with the rest of her awesome design.

Somehow the power of the Chaos emerald turned Bunnie back despite her getting her original parts removed. So Sally still has a chance.

I don't like Butler's style. It seems to dull the whole atmosphere of the comic and make it boring when ever he draws. The humanoid styles especially the female characters makes the Archie look like they don't belong in Sonic's Universe. They seem way out of place. My favorite artist in this exact order 1. Ben Bates, 2. Jammal Peppers 3. Tracey Yardley 4. Spaz.-I say they need to keep rotating these dudes around and no one else, unless they can find other artist similar to their style and add them to the current roster of these artist who I believe are the best so far.

Funny enough, I'm not a furry and I still enjoy his art.

Guess I'm just weird.

I dunno, it's just really off putting for me because otherwise his art is really good, but seeing the body of a human with the head of an animal is just unsettling.

Uh, what makes it so unsettling compared to any other franchise that does it like say StarFox for example?

I'm not trying to make a whole debate about "furries" here, but I just find it odd how people have that kind of a problem for a work of fiction. I take it this feeling is exclusive to the Sonic franchise? Because otherwise I'm getting a bit of a logic bomb here regarding the problem.

I don't see why a large story arc would just be an excuse for more clothing.

It doesn't. But more seem to think that is the case. I mean look at DA for example.

Butler's art (his older stuff in particular) was damned awkward to be seen reading in public, especially in school. Because 'LOL PORN'.

Seriously, did he have to draw Sally with pretty much full-on boobs, considering she has an open vest as it is?

Yeah, he was real umm.......detailed with Sally's womanly appearance when he drew the art for 'Reigning Cats and Dogs"

That? That was nothing compared to how he used to draw her back around the early to mid 100's.

Oh my god yes, that was when it was at it's worse (along with everything else in the comic)

I don't have any to hand, but I know there were cases much, much worse than even that.

Indeed

I love Sally as a character, especially when she isn't being Sueified. And I find it annoying as hell when her design is turned into this supermodel-esque form. It really sticks out from the other characters and it looks really suggestive. I'm not saying that to criticize Sally AT ALL. I just wonder why she has a naval and practically defined breasts without nipples especially because it contrasts so much with the other characters.

EDIT: Gah! Ninja'd by Soniman.

Gosh, guys, I was actively trying to forget the early 100's... eh, at least this brought back memories of Issues 126-128, which were alright in my opinion.

I'd say Ben Bates and Yardley are the only artists who can actually manage to draw Sally with somewhat proper Sonic-character proportions. I think Bates draws her the best, though.
