Leaked Gameplay Footage of Sonic 4!

Id like it if the enemies were placed in different areas the other times you go through the stage. Cause i like the think on your feet reaction stuff kinda like how RE 4 had the quick-time events and it was usualy not what you got the first time.

Im really hoping they put super sonic in, maybe as DLC butit would only work once you have all the chaos emeralds.

Playing through Sonic 2 last night, there were a number of moments when I'd flat out run and get hit by an enemy who, in my eyes, cheaply attacked me. On my second attempt, I knew what to expect and made it through the level with hardly breaking a running pace.

I had always thought that was one of the defining elements of a Sonic game, take the first playthrough with caution and on the next playthrough you know what to expect allowing you to go for a better time record. Heck, I had the guide books for Sonic 1-3 that had each stage mapped out, allowing me to plan a run and allowed me to know what to expect.

Sonic Unleashed felt more like a QTE to me, quite literally WITH literal QTEs appearing and enemies popping up that required a quick hit to make it across a deadly pit.

So, yet again i'm late for the party.

Let me try to understand what the hell just happend so please work with me if you will...

So 1UP.com got a leaked footage for Sonic 4 with some screenshots, and then SEGA comes out of nowhere demanding websites to delete anything related to the game. So let me get this straight by asking how the hell 1UP got that footage?

Am i the only one who thinks its all SEGA's work to rise the hype for the game. Because i don't get it, how could a website like 1UP(whom i just don't give a crap about any single word comes from them) getting something that by SEGA standards is very confidental and after so many months teasing the project so easily leaked?

Oh SEGA, it was all going well but that move was so unpredicted.

It's inconvenient because that makes you afraid to go fast on what would otherwise be speedy sections in fear of running into an enemy that just happened to be there. On normal ground, you should be going at a reasonable enough speed to be able to react in time, unlike what you'd most likely be doing on that incline.

It's a tiny hill, you shouldn't be going that much faster down it than on level ground. The problem is with that sudden speed boost, not the enemy placement.

@ 3thmthm

Don't forget TSSZ once again being a-holes towards Sega by reposting the 1up materials and calling Sega the "bad guy" for wanting the materials removed from YouTbe, 1up and (eventually) TSSZ.

I'd be anxious too if my daddy was playing Sonic 4 that badly!

"Hit the spring daddy! NO! Don't jump all over the place! WAHHHHH!"

Hm, you do have a point. Perhaps it was recorded by a beta tester and sent to 1UP without SEGA's knowledge?

Let's play a little game i call: the company's beta tester, shall we?

You wake up in the morning and say: Hell i've bought a video camera and never used it... Hmmm let me take it with anyhow...

So you've reached the company and they told you to try out the game, the you go OMGZGSJSG HOLYSHIT SONICSS4.. You go to the testing room then theres the security guy, he sees you, took the camrea and say: The fuck's this champ?? You: Umm a camera DUH. Him: Not allowed SCRAM. GAME OVER

The point is they can't let you go in with your camera if they have a secret project. I don't think that SEGA give 1UP the footage but everything seems odd to me.

The footage was recorded by an anonymous source 1UP sent in to Microsofts X10 event on Friday where third parties like SEGA were also showing off stuff. I'm guessing this guy/woman managed to get his/her camera through security.

I really think S0L was the one who made the Sonic 4 footage. Notice how he always steers the conversations to SASAR? Like he's hiding something???

Btw, because I love making comparison pics:

sonic1copy.jpg

I still don't see why people keep saying Splash Hill is Green Hill 2.0....... It's Green Hill 8.0

Green Hill = GH 1.0

Emerald Hill = GH 2.0

Angel Island = GH 3.0

Neo Green Hill = GH 4.0

Leaf Forest = GH 5.0

Sunset Hill = GH 6.0

Leaf Storm = GH 7.0

Splash Hill = GH 8.0

Makes me wonder what Island Sonic is on. North Island? East Island?

Angel North-Eastern a little more Demon South to the West Island.

That footage was pretty coolio bar the shitty player. I haven't seen the video since yesterday, but wasn't there a special stage in the center of those 4 other stages? I'm just curious of how all this level plot shizz is going down, ^^".

Be realistic, you know EXACTLY why people are saying that. It's bears a much greater resemblance to Green Hill than any other stage bar NGH perhaps. EHZ, AIZ and such are all substantially different. I don't fall into that crowd and see SHZ as a rather strong homage, but calling it GHZ x.0 is reasonable.

I think the whole point of looking very much like Green Hill is to give Sonic fans a chance to (sort of) see the iconic zone in HD. I for one welcome it! Green Hill and Casino Night are two that I really really would like to revisit (and it looks like we will)

Except Emerald Hill is a just a slightly more varied GHZ (with a corkscrew), and Palmtree Panic is GHZ with triangles. And of course Neo Green Hill is well.. A newer Green Hill. :P

I'd take Angel Island of that list, it's way too visually different from Green Hill even before it gets set on fire. Green hill is almost like a prairie, but Angel Island is a full blown forest...and it has no checkered hills.

Wow, the first proper footage of Sonic 4 and all we get is a bunch of people crying. I can't believe we're finally getting something better than the trash released in recent years and the overwhelming reaction is a negative one from the Sonic hardcore. If you want SEGA could just go back to churning out more broken 3D games with new friends promising exciting new gameplay opportunities that further deviate from the Sonic formula. Some of you should realize we're lucky to get anything like Sonic 4 even if it doesn't reach your lofty expectations. If I didn't know better reading through this topic I'd think some of you hated Sonic.

^ Just as there is no objective proof that this is essentially Sonic Rush 3, there is zero proof that this game actually will be any better than "the trash released in recent years."

Which is kinda antithetical to the spirit of a genesis style Sonic game.

It really isn't, but even if it was it doesn't matter. The game was designed around the time travel aspect. In order for it to not be abused, the level design had to be setup to prevent large swaths of open runway, which prevented long bouts of sustained speed. Ergo, having enemies spawn in inconvenient places in Sonic CD wasn't a problem, because the levels were designed around the very idea so you were usually not going very fast when you ran into them. Having enemies placed Sonic 2 style, where the levels are mostly set up where you are going very fast but still has tons of cheap hits, is not.

Dimps, while they might be able to prevent themselves from doing such in this game, is staggeringly incompetent when it comes to creating anything other than Sonic 2 style enemy placement.
