THIS IS OBVIOUSLY THE NINTENDO ER*shot*

All I wanna see is Tails, Knux and Sonic playable. I'll be a bit sad if I don't get at least more than Sonic playable.

Wait are people really thinking that we'll see a major shift in gameplay because of one random PR statement?

Despite them saying new enemies, I really would love to see this happen in particular just to carry on some of Colours' nostalgic charm and spice up those inevitable chase sequences. Those Motobug parts from Colours were brilliant, why not strap an Egg Pawn on top along with their old shield and lance from Heroes?

I... actually think this would be hilarious and fit Eggman's goofball persona very, very much.

Through historical analysis, Eggman deduces that a good cavalry charge always can break an opponent. So he invents his own cavalry! ...of Egg Pawns on Motobugs.

It's a start.

As far as I'm aware those criticisms have gotten genuinely less common in recent years.

Let's be honest. While hating on Sonic is the cool thing to do in the upper echelons of gaming, their talking points have run kind of dry as of late. They're a media form the same as anyone else and eventually the audience wants something new. The acid is less potent with each exposure.

No, you're not getting me. Yes she's a Fighting Vipers cameo. But she's also an antropomorphic cat with Sonic proportions and Sonic design cues in a Sonic game. Why does one exclude the other? It's not as if she's literally the same model from Fighting Vipers, they made her fit the world. It's a Sonic character.

...so? Just because they made the artsyle fit doesn't mean she's an actual canonical part of the universe like the original argument is suggesting. You're trying to argue the relevance of a character who until recently couldn't even be seen without literally hacking the game, much less didn't originate from a Sonic game at all in the first place, and if you don't mind me saying so it's just plain silly. Not to mention completely off-tangent.

She's no more a Sonic character for being in StF than Sonic and Tails are Fighting Vipers characters for being in Fighting Vipers.

Shadow, eh. He doesn't need to be everywhere. I mean, could be cool with Chaos powers and all but I prefer more stage varieties to be honest. I won't hate him, I just won't care for him.

Amy, eh, don't care for her either.

So much this. How often do PR statements say such generic things like "there'll be new gameplay"? It's absolutely nothing to read into at this stage.

I'm not trying to argue her relevance, she's irrelevant, yes. What I'm trying to argue is the notion a character designed and created for a Sonic game, even if heavily based on a pre-existing one, isn't a Sonic character. Are Flickies not Sonic characters because they appeared before Sonic 1? Is, I don't know, Tiara Boobowski not a Sonic character since she never appeared? No, she's a Sonic character. An irrelevant and useless one, but still a Sonic character.

So yes, if in the next Fighting Vipers sequel there was a human version of Sonic built and thought for that game, I'd consider that character a Fighting Vipers character, not a Sonic character.

Okay, you know what, fine. If you want to believe looks alone make a Sonic character, then you're free to continue deluding yourself. Clearly being a dummied-out test character from a completely seperate franchise isn't enough go by somehow.

Uh...Just because a character is based on another from another franchise doesn't mean that character suddenly doesn't count.

Its called an Expy to put it in Tvtrope terms.

Were that the only factor I'd agree with you, but that's still neglecting the fact she was never originally accessible through standard gameplay. If that counted we might as well bump the hedgehog counter by 1 on account of Ashura.

You're kinda cartwheeling on a slippery slope, there. Except the slope is a bottomless pit, as what you said doesn't even make sense. Would be best to compare her to Tiara B., since she's the closest thing there is to Honey in terms of comparison.

That's the point. This whole argument spawned simply because you believe being an "official" Sonic character only requires looking like one stylistically. Ashura does. Damn near every fancharacter imaginable does. Some could even argue there are entire franchises that come close enough. It's not the instant qualifier you guys are making it out to be - she's a one shot cameo character who was blatantly never intended to be shown in the first place, and if that's not clear enough then frankly I don't know what the fuck is.

Why are we even talking about this? If I knew this was going to result in this kind of semantics I wouldn't have even bothered.

Who unlike Honey actually originated from Sonic games.

I'm done here. Make a new topic if you want to keep arguing this.

Would it be worth it making a thread to carry on this discussion, or shall we just let it lay?

Have we talked about the level themes on the world map yet?

It seems like the Mario level clichés. there is a desert world ice world grass world. all New Super Mario Bros games have these themes.

I hope Sonic lost world at least brings something new to them.

Yes.

Many have brought it up. We know.

Jesus, I was expecting fireworks over the appearance of an ice region. The Sonic fanbase has changed a lot in a couple of weeks.

If this game is the Sonic equivalent of NSMB 1, 2 and U, that'd be no bad thing; NSMB is a big seller, and a Sonic equivalent would frankly kick ass.

Those are all platforming tropes in general, man. The Mario series isn't the only one who actually used any of those.

A Sonic series equivalent of NSMB, ala a decent Sonic 4, would be brilliant. Not for this game though. I'm expecting to be the next big, main, 3D Sonic title. And if it's not then I'll be pretty disappointed even if I do end up loving the game.

Nintendo had better market the shit out of Lost World, especially where they're publishing it here in Europe. It'll be in their zone at E3 of course and potentially in the Best Buy demos if we're lucky. But I'm also hoping to see it getting dedicated adverts on TV, space on their websites and for it to get all the rest of the treatment Nintendo-published 3rd party games get. Lego City Undercover has been covered really well. Fingers crossed that the same is true of this.

Honestly, it looks like NSMB to me.

Analysis of all the locations shown on the "Lost World".

Green Hill Areas

greenhill.png

There's lots of places like this, and they look like Green Hill. Not to be confused with...

NSMB Forest Zone

forestv.png

Yes it's just a generic forest, but there's some extra large trees with zig-zag patterns. Normally when we see forest stages in Sonic games they're tropical, ala Tropical Jungle or Angel Island. This is really quite different.

World 8 Volcano Zone

lavabr.png

This has got to be the first time since 06, and only the third time in the history of 3D Sonic games that we're getting a volcano stage. Again it looks like NSMB.

Water World

waterw.png

Third time's a charm- it looks like the typical coastal/water world from NSMB. But we're looking at a zoomed out map so it's not exactly fair. Maybe SEGA will finally give us full 3D underwater areas? ... nah

Desert Zone

desertw.png

No, it's not Dust Hill. This is an Egyptian desert complete with Pyramids and several oases. Last time we saw one of these was in '06. So how bout that NSMB?

Savanah/Rock Zone

rockld.png

Either this is more desert, or it's something rocky or savanah-ish. Not really sure what to say about this. NSMB strikes again.

Ice World

icek.png

This one is interesting. Partly because ice stages are always cool, and partly because... what are those dark structures all around the place? Also, moar NSMB.

More Ice, or Something Else?

whatsthisp.png

I can't really tell what this is at all.

Floating Islands

floatingislandsj.png

Now these have me curious. Will they be mini-acts, or are they just parts of the world that haven't been formed yet?

The forest, desert and beach places are so NSMB the resemblance is undeniable. And the volcano location is more typical of Mario than it is the standard fair of fire stages in Sonic games.

Well still they aren't really "Sonic like" I always liked the ruin, mechanical, city and casino levels. Sonic always had unique level themes.
