Sonic Lost World Announced

Man, this constant revival of the graphics debate just stresses me out. If we talk about this again, can we please not be so rash about it? I'm talking to both sides of the argument here. I know I've been kind of touchy and ranty about it before, but this is like... the hundredth time. It's not worth getting angry about anymore, and actually in this case I think it was a bit much to have a go at ArtFenix this time. As much as I disagree with him (and oh, how do I), I feel that this constant cycle of provoking one another (whether it was intended or not) and being a bit dry is getting old now.

I still don't agree with ArtFenix, but he at least tries to stay calm about it. Maybe we shouldn't blow up at him every time he brings it up. Each side has a little blood on it's hands. It's annoying, but I think things would be a lot less stressful around here if we tried not to attack one another. I know I'm just as guilty for jumping into the fray and posting big talk, so I hope I can avoid getting upset over the debate as well.

If we can agree that both the more "realistic" shaded and rendered Unleashed/Generations quality art is just as viable an option as the more "cartoony" colored Lost World quality art, and that each has their pros and cons, I think that regardless of what one or the other prefers, it'll be easier to be a bit more friendly. I openly admit that I love the Unleashed artstyle and want to see it return again. I think though that the Lost World artstyle is just as beautiful and is better in some areas and not as pretty in others, and the same can be applied to Unleashed.

On that note, I'll try to stay out of the artstyle debate for a while. I just wish for there to be no hard feelings 'round here. Debates are fun and it can result in some good points and funny moments, but I don't want to see other members devalued over it, and I get the feeling that has been happening, and if I am guilty of causing some of that, then I openly apologize.

Anyway, carry on. Pip pip.

Sooooo... How 'bout that Tropical Coast...? Do any of you think we might finally see some 3D underwater sections along with the beach setting?

That would be the bee's knees, it been like, since SA1 when we had 3D underwater. Unless you count GDK or SRB2, but those are fan games.

You can be in 3D underwater in seaside hill modern you've got to do in a way that the camera screws up and puts you in 3D perspective underwater but I must warn you it is difficult to control and perform the camera glitch

Totally expecting zero 3D underwater sections outside of maybe grinding through bodies of water.

it's probably just me but I always felt that underwater sections should be wide-open instead of a corridor like in recent Sonic games. I know it's silly and all but it just kind of bugs me lol

I agree. There was never a time where you were underwater in 3D at all in either Colors or Generations, even the smallest bits/areas. I expect this game to be no different.

I'd actually be curious to see a 3D stage that spent most of the time underwater, with you having to look for bubbles every now and then, and having a higher jump, you know, the normal water controls/physics in Sonic games. SA1 had 3D underwater, but it was never really a big thing and was really just in the HUB world/Twinkle Park.

Well, there are 3D underwater levels in this game, but so far it looks like they're restricting it to grinding.

Colors basically set a new standard for 2D underwater sections in modern Sonic games, so I'm hopeful they have one here. If they have a proper 3D platforming stage underwater you'll probably be inside a tunnel rather than running on top of a tube.

Lost world in Sonic Adventure says hello, anyways, yah 3d+underwater=frustration. I got so many game overs in SRB2 in deep sea zone I swear and lost world, omg the only reason it won't work w/sonic is being unable to swim, think about SM64, SMG, and SMG2, you refill a meter with coins/air bubbles, and you can swim to the surface and resurface.

Edit: I was going to mention colors actually...well anyways, sonic needs to be able to get to the surface quicker for water levels to work out.

I suppose instead of a spin dash, you could hold the left trigger underwater to do a swim dash.

Thinking about it now, the higher, fixed camera they're using in this game could make a 3D underwater level rather fun to play instead of a chore.

Too bad it seems somewhat unlikely that they'll do a 3D underwater stage.  The gameplay and camera style they're using lends itself to it quite well.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a 3D underwater level. It's unlikely because it's hard to design but let's remember that this IS Sega. Sega are an amazing company and will stop at nothing to please their fans!

Hey man, I love SEGA very passionately, but even I have to admit that they are not perfect. Companies make mistakes, and SEGA is definitely not exempt. No matter how many passionate employees and game designers they have, they are ultimately in it for the money.

But it's good to see someone so excited about SEGA nowadays. Makes me feel a bit younger.

Sorry if I posted something confusing or not clear, I'm not used to forums :( . In fact, this is my very first forum!

I can't wait to talk about Sonic with my new friends :) .

Nice reference there guys [Dreamy Luigi / Indigo Rush].

As for SEGA as a company, yes I support them, but no they aren't the best.

I really haven't posted my thoughts lately.

So from the content from PAX, and from Youtuber Cobanermani456's Lost World playthrough, it seems that Lost World isn't looking as hard to control, so long as you know what you are doing. He's the first one apart from the employee's who have been able to use the Wisps effortlessly.

As for the levels, Windy Hill is looking as great to play as ever. Desert Ruins: Honeycome Rush seems hectic to be playing as it has a lot of things going on with it. Desert Ruins: Confectionary Land looks to be a return to classic levels, at least for me. Frozen Factory: Casino Cavern does indeed have a lot of Casino Night about it, but until I can play it, I can't say if it'll be one I'll return to. Frozen Factory: Sherbert Frost is very Super Monkey Ball styled, with the amount of challenge that those games bring. Silent Forest: Murky Woods looks to be an interesting one as well.

The levels that we have only seen snippets of [like Tropical Coast] I'll withhold judgement on.

Did I miss any?
