Sonic Lost World Announced

They made SatSK for the Wii, but they didn't have to make Sonic control the way he did. The fault is Sega's own.

That is very true, although I half blame the Wii (jokingly) as SEGA were very much like "OMG motion control gimmick, we must use this!"

They could have left that purely for things like the catapult And flying carpets ect.

Do you guys think we'll be able to turn the gamepad gimmicks off and simply use buttons for the Wisps, instead of tilting and stuff?

Even so, I doubt all of them will require motion control.

First ever recorded glitch of Sonic Lost World.

Hopefully this won't be the first of many, considering how sluggish Sega usually is with most of their first-time gameplay styles (same goes for many other developers though).

If Sonic 06 taught Sega anything, its not to have a game be broken when shipped, so I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, this is just a demo (problem the alpha version or something), so they more than enough time to iron out the kinks before it ships.

Indeed. I really want to see how this game turns out in the end, if people will generally enjoy the new gameplay and what kind of scope this game will have despite skepticism and negativity currently going on around different Sonic communities.

On a different note; have we seen or heard anything about the 3DS version since the IGN previews before E3 and the trailer on Nintendo's Youtube channel? The 3DS version will probably be the first one I get so I truly hope it turns out better than Generations 3DS. Having a handheld 3D game for one is rather promising, but I can't raise my expectations much considering Unleashed Wii's daytime stages as we're talking about the same developer here..

SEGA wants Mario players and platforming fans to enjoy Sonic Lost World

“Sonic started out as a platform title but, as we got to the more recent ones, it changed to be a more speed-based game. Recent fans will be familiar with that speed-based gaming, but with Lost World, we wanted to win back the platform fans. We don’t just want old Sonic fans to come back, though: we want Mario players and other platform gamers to enjoy the new game, too.” - Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka

Wonder if that's the reason they went for a more Mario-like artstyle?

I can't imagine this comment will go over too well with the majority of the fanbase, but it only gives me more confidence in the game. Mario has always been a good series after all.

Makes perfect sense to me. They aren't exactly competing with Mario anymore, but trying to attract more fans in general? Seems like a good move.

Also, that glitch in that video up there looks hilarious. :P

>Always a good series

>NSMB exists

no

But anyway, I do welcome more platforming, as long as it's balanced well enough with the speed. That's kinda what Sonic's about.

^Let's not go there shall we?

Somehow, I can't help but feel that certain fans will interpret that quote in the most negative way possible...

I shudder to think of the ways the gamefaqs board of this game will tear it apart.

P.S. About rehashes. SLW is being spoken as "a whole brand new Sonic experience" but what do we see?

 - Wisps. A LOT of wisps making it more of Colors 2 than "a whole brand new experience"

 - Rehashed levels: Windy Hill, Casino (screw the name "Frozen factory"). Two levels are clear rehashes. And I wouldn't actually mind a new Casino level if it was more original but this one looks like a mix between Sonic 2 and Sonic heroes both of which had completely original levels (Sonic 2 has the first in the series and Heroes version of Casino theme was VERY original). SLW Casino version even rehashes both Sonic 2 and Heroes enemies and using classic icons and stuff. I'm not saying it's a complete rehash but it could've been a lot more original.

Rehashing=/= Paying an homage, now you might say ''BUT THATS WHAT GENERATIONS WAS ABOUT I WANT SOMETHING COMPLETELY ORIGINAL'' now, lets think for a moment, yes, Generations did that, but that doesn't mean SEGA should never do this thing again, the classics are the games almost everyone loves, so why not give some levels a good remake for the sake of some fun? Rehash? No, it would be a Rehash if it had the same gimmicks, Badniks, design and a name that remembers the level, this level has new fun gimmicks, only one Badnik from that level, which will probably appear in other levels, a completely new design for a lot of stuff, for once now we can see the wheels from that addicting game, and even get some classic reference, with some classic designs, no it isnt a rehash, Sonic 4 Episode 1 is a Rehash, Sonic Generations 3DS Classic Cassino night is a rehash, this is something fresh and new... And what's the problem with using the wisps again? They had Tails and the Spin Dash in Sonic 3, after they got introduced in Sonic 2, no complains, the Homing Attack was in every single 3D game, and some 2D after its introduction but you dont see people hating a lot on that... The wisps give the game a chance to be imaginative, something out of the box, akin to Super Mario's Power Ups, they dont make sense, they dont need to, they are just funny little powers you cant help but love because they are interesting and charming.

Also, after FINALLY getting to play Super Mario Galaxy... Boy do I hope this game has better controls, nothing against the game, but the controls felt a little wacky for me on the whole gravity changing thing, there where moments I would simply accept the fact that Im dead while running into a pit and not being able to stop myself because the controls fuck up on me.
