Pokemon X & Y (October 2013 on 3DS) - [Now out! Go out and play it already]

Well, Gyarados was originally intended to be Dragon but ended up with Flying instead due to an error with Gen1's programming or something. The Flying Type is nothing but a hindrance to it considering it can't even get STAB from any other moves that way (it can only possibly learn one Flying Move iirc, and that's through breeding)

I know Gyarados is like really good anyway and would probably be even better with Dragon instead of Flying, but I can't help but think it makes more sense game-wise.

I thought Gyarados was supposed to be a Water/Dragon, but was changed because that would mean it would only be weak to Dragon, and the only Dragon type move back then was... Dragon Rage. And I think that the Water/Flying type is just to nerf Gyarados by making him weak to Electricity.

I like it when you cannot just look at a pokemon and know its type(s). It adds more value and fun to catching pokemon just to learn more about them. Like when you first learned that Gyarados was actually flying and water instead of dragon? Awesome twist, and now you have more "experience" when facing it in battle, is how I like to look at it!

Not payed much attention to this thread or Pokemon X & Y, but I will most likely be getting the game when it comes out. New pokemon games are always full of excitement!

Oh! What about Charizard, too? It's obviously a dragon, but it also absolutely has to be a fire-type and its wings are a big enough deal that its flying-type actually does make sense (and it hasn't got room for Levitate anyway). It'd be kind of a pity to change Gyarados and leave Charizard alone in the not-quite-a-dragon pile, wouldn't it?

I think Charizard makes a little more sense than Gyarados as it can actually learn Flying Type moves and it's just as much a "flying lizard" as a dragon. I see what you mean though, and ultimately I doubt they'll change Gyarados, but maybe they'll give it more Flying moves or something.

If Charizard became a Fire/Dragon...

Well, at least Charizard fans could boast about their pet without being reduced to wimpering tears by the words "stealth" and "rock".

Anywho, I've been thinking (although it's obviously too early to speculate) the format of Gym Leaders. If Game Freak really wants to make a change to that format, make it similar to how Blue/Green in HGSS was and not have one sole type. I mean, similar to how Diamond and Pearl's Flint and his team was assembled. While being focused on on type in terms of the moves and strategies around them, rather than just the type of the Pokemon.

So...like a mix of HGSS Blue/Green and DP Flint.

Remember when we thought Cofagrigus was going to be Ghost/Ground or Ghost/Rock?

Good times.

Please, PLEASE don't let Fennekin's evolution line be Fire/Fighting. I can't take another one of those.

Just as long as the first gym isn't Rock-type again. Or Normal, preferably; BW1 basically started out with two Normal-type gyms in a row.

I've wanted for a while to see Steel or Dragon or something else totally ~exotic and dangerous~ as the first gym in a region, and some of the types that usually get weak gyms, like Grass and Rock, to get specialists in the Elite Four.

If we don't get a dark type gym this generation I'm gonna rage.

What's wrong with Fairy? Serious question.

Fairy has come to mean "Tinker Bell" in popular consciousness, so immediately people think of happy sunshine rainbows and everything else they didn't like about Disney.

This and the fact that it's wasted potential.  I mean, honestly, what is Fairy going to bring to the table that other types couldn't give us?  They could just as well give us Light (as in both "Holy" light and literal spectrums) and Sound (basically already a type with immunities and such), and they would fit well into the pre-established universe, as well as being completely inoffensive.  But NOOOOOOOOOO, we have to get Sparkly-Ass Fairy-Type.

If Mewtwo's new form is this "Fairy-Type", I'm going to blow a fucking gasket.

Alien-Type:

- Clefairy (Normal/Alien)

- Clefable (Normal/Alien)

- Unown (Psychic/Alien)

- Lunatone (Rock/Alien)

- Solrock (Rock/Alien)

- Deoxys (Psychic/Alien)

- Sigilyph (Flying/Alien)

- Duosin (Psychic/Alien)

- Reuniclus (Psychic/Alien)

- Elgyem (Psychic/Alien)

- Beheeyem (Psychic/Alien)

Weak against Steel

Strong against Normal/Fighting

Bang, I just made a new type.

Hm, I do agree there could be more interesting ideas for new types. I'm hoping, if these rumours are true, more than one new type is introduced. I really liked that idea I saw a while back--I think in this thread?--about a type for artificial Pokemon like Porygon. Maybe make it resistant to fighting. Seriously, how do you hurt a computer program by punchin' it??
