Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing

Heh, doesn't TSSZ do their research? I'd KILL for Toy Commander representation but the image is blatantly for Avatar costumes, the bottom right image is even in the exact same pose as an Avatar while it flies the toy plane from one of the costumes (think it's MW2 but not sure).

Metal Sonic isn't even a rumour, he's just a character everyone's been speculating, there's no evidence to support it.

Metal Sonic would be a complete waste of a character if that was true, there are so many other characters more deserving. But it looks bogus with no source.

Sketch Turner. Riding in a giant paper airplane..

That'd be fuckin' sweet.

That would be sweet! Not to mention his all star move would probably have him turning into his Alter-Ego!

The Records section on my save is fucked up somehow. It continues to say that my favorite racer is AiAi when before I noticed it I had never touched him and since then have only used him once.

It's not really that big of a deal but kind of annoying to look at.

I've been meaning to ask. Does anyone know a great straightaway where I can actually do the damn 6-second wheelie? I've been trying to get Wheelie Good since I've figured out how to do wheelies. I know you have to rapidly tap forward and backward to prolong the wheelie, but I don't know a place where I can actually wheelie long enough. Maybe I'm just too used to snaking.

I don't get the Project Rub trophy. I've completed races a few times where I haven't collided with the other racers, the scenery or the obstacles. So why haven't I got a Project Rub trophy?

Actually, I think this image is referring to RC cars. Literally RC Cars. I remember reading something about Sonic's car being released as a RC toy. I think Shadow and Knuckles as well.

Its more than likely going to be an ASR themed RC car for the Xbox 360 Avatars, wonder which character(s) and vehicle(s) they'll use for it. I had to lol at Tristan since I go round every site in the Sonic and SEGA community and not once have I seen anybody spreading this apparent rumour about Metal Sonic being playable, as people have said he doesnt even post a source  He even suggests it means Toy Commander representation which even without S0L's confirmation we could see he is way off

EDIT:

Just noticed I havent got that Dreamarena Trophy everyone is having a hard time unlocking. I had some online races with my brother yesterday but no Trophy.

I was properly stuck on this, too. Then I unlocked it without even trying!

My tip? Go somewhere like Shibuya Downtown, somewhere where there's less "road furniture", as I reckon the trophy also counts hitting through things like flowers, boxes, roadsigns, etc. etc. It also counts as a collision if you survive hitting, say, a badnik or a zombie while using a shield. Like I said, I got it without even trying, on Shibuya Downtown.

Good luck!

SOL: Sumo ghosts? Where? D:

Beat a regular Staff Ghost on any Time Trial course, set a new personal best and then quit. When you return to that same course in Time Trial, you'll race against your personal best and a new ghost called a Sumo Ghost. They're insanely difficult. I only managed to beat one, on Sunshine Tour (my easiest course), by following him for ten laps and copying his every single move, before then adding a few seconds extra drift on one crucial corner. It was doing this that crashed my PlayStation3 on Monday, deleting all my trophies and leading me to believe that Sumo Digital were a vindictive bunch of... well, people. Ahem.

Ahh, right. I'd not gone back to any time trials once I did them, yet.

Looks like the Dreamarena Trophy problem is not affecting all PS3 users, was just playing online with my brother again and noticed he has it on his Trophy list dated 26th Feb EU release day whereas I still cant get it :-/

My brother has a slim and I have a phat if that matters at all

The German Magazine M!Games gave ASR 77/100 for PS3/360/Wii and 69/100 for DS.

There was a whole paragraph about them joking about how the game idea is stolen from Mario Kart dry.gif

However they say its a very good clone, that just doesn'T do anything new or really different from Mario Kart.

They do say that drifting and the controls are alot like Outrun 2006. The guy also loved that they brought less known characters like Billy Hatcher.

Their gripe with the DS version was that snaking is easy.. They noted that there are 6 insead of 8 racers on the track and that the tracks are simpler. It didn't seem liike they were complaining, though.

Ah, and thanks for answering my question about the language, S0L. But you answered twice tongue.gif. Just goes to show much you care about the fans xD.

Comment on Kotaku:

The problem with Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing is that's it's more of a main-stream arcade racer. The graphics are driving physics are completely inferior to Gran Turismo 5; not to mention Gran Turismo 5 supports 16 player online matches, dynamic weather, and day/night cycles. This game is clearly a rush job, and soon the King of racing games will return and dethrone it.

Rofl. Comparing the game to Mario Kart is one thing, but Gran Turismo 5? xD

I'm not normally one to post internet meme pics but that comment deserves it -

marioisghay-sonicfacepalm.jpg

Good to hear the game got good scores but irritating to see more Mario Kart comparisons, will these people learn that Mario Kart does not own that genre its just a good part of the genre not the sole owner that doesnt allow anyone else to make an appearance within the grenre.

Note: Todays special word is genre :P

Okay, so after my on the 26th, I think I'm just about ready to do some kind of course ranking here!

Sonic the Hedgehog

Seaside Hill - Whale Lagoon

Pretty standard when compared to some of the others, but an awesome introduction to the game upon first loading. The corkscrew is the obvious highlight.

Score: 7/10

Seaside Hill - Lost Palace

Excellent for that huge jump over the broken bridge, but otherwise this adds little to Whale Lagoon, it's just... well, bigger, s'all. Still good, though.

Score: 7/10

Seaside Hill - Ocean Ruin

Now this is more like it! An epic journey underwater, the loop-de-loop is spectacular and that final sneaky shortcut an absolute gem if you can make it. Awesome!

Score: 10/10

Casino Park - Roulette Road

Bright, engaging, looks absolutely eye-poppingly gorgeous, and some of the turns are sinfully demanding. A definite winner in my book.

Score: 9/10

Casino Park - Pinball Highway

Y'know what this game does brilliantly? Massive bendy tubes! The same with Ocean Ruin, this one has a spectacular one, and as gorgeous as ever!

Score: 10/10

Casino Park - Bingo Party

Knocking a point away for that final section across the stacked chips... no matter what I do, I always seem to crash. No matter, as the bingo balls in the cage? Genius!

Score: 9/10

Final Fortress - Turbine Loop

To be honest, probably my least favourite of the Sonic-verse courses. A little dull (just a big circle) and the centrifuge looks ace, but kills the framerate.

Score: 6/10

Final Fortress - Dark Arsenal

If you can make those sneaky jumps, this course is ridiculously easy. That said, making those jumps is insanely difficult! A nice balance.

Score: 8/10

Final Fortress - Thunder Deck

Imposing? Why, yes! Stacked with cool features? Indeed! Lined with dangerous cannons? Of course! The best course in the game? Alas, not quite...

Score: 7/10

Samba de Amigo

Carnivaland - Sunshine Tour

One of my personal favourites, for being nicely accessible with plenty of cool drifting and lashings of hillarious character. Totally off-the-wall, and I love it!

Score: 10/10

Carnivaland - Jump Parade

Another sterling effort in the course department from one of my greatest enemies in the character department... although those balloons do get annoying at times.

Score: 8/10

Carnivaland - Rocky Coaster

Random death in the shape of those ghetto-blaster speakers annoys the heck out of me, and the swinging axes are infuriating. The worst of this bunch.

Score: 6/10

Jet Set Radio Future

Tokyo-to - Shibuya Downtown

Great, filled with neat little touches and tons of detail as you make that epic, flying jump. And the framerate keeps up too? You've got yourself a winner here, guys!

Score: 9/10

Tokyo-to - Rokkaku Hill

Incredibly bumpy at times, and that final shortcut took me forever to master, but a generally solid and enjoyable track from the middle of the pack.

Score: 7/10

Tokyo-to - Highway Zero

Gah! That final stretch! Those crash barriers! Annoying, too, 'cause this was otherwise perfect! But a point away for the first few rounds being destroyed by those barriers.

Score: 9/10

Super Monkey Ball

Jumble Jungle - Treetops

Crazy, insane right-angled corners, one after the other, take forever to conquer. None of the jumps, either, offer much boosting opportunity. Improves with time.

Score: 7/10

Detritus Desert - Sandy Drifts

I'm sensing a pattern here... more neck-breaking corners, but at least this one has an epic jump towards the end. It can go either way, depending on your race conditions.

Score: 7/10

Pirates Ocean - Monkey Target

Amazing! Another of the larger courses is tailored to perfection, with some genius placement of items on that final climb, plus the longest jump of the game!

Score: 10/10

Billy Hatcher

Blizzard Castle - Icicle Valley

Introduces the first moment when drifting really clicks, or at least it did for me. Blocking the run to the finish line with eggs, mind? Only good if you avoid 'em!

Score: 7/10

Blizzard Castle - Rampart Road

Excellent for having two very distinctive routes during the second half, one that can genuinely shake up the standings during a Grand Prix. One of the more sweeping.

Score: 8/10

Dino Mountain - Lava Lair

At times, the best there is: huge, that final dash down the lava flow, the T-Rex... but at times, the worst there is: control a drift and avoid lava boulders all at once?!

Score: 8/10

The House of the Dead

Curien Mansion - Outer Forest

More or less, this one's pretty forgettable. I mean, it does what it does well, but aside from smashing through that church, 'tis just some woods, really. Oh, and zombies.

Score: 6/10

Curien Mansion - Sewer Scrapes

For having a gigantic three-headed monster that tries to eat you as you pass, this course gets a big thumbs up from me! Points away, though, for some bumpy moments.

Score: 8/10

Curien Mansion - Deadly Route

The best of the haunted courses. A huge curved spiral (with no lava boulders, hurrah) leading to a massive drop through a window, and loads of tactical variation.

Score: 9/10

***

My top five courses, in a very particular order, would have to be...

1: Casino Park - Bingo Highway

2: Seaside Hill - Ocean Ruin

3: Pirates Ocean - Monkey Target

4: Carnivaland - Sunshine Tour

5: Tokyo-to - Shibuya Downtown

Has anyone got any advice on how to get the 'Wonder Boy' achievement? I don't see how the hell it's possible to get far enough ahead to buy yourself enough time to stop, turn around and reverse over the finish line, all the while staying in first place.

I've tried it a few times on easy mode and still only make second or third, even if I'm ahead by quite a bit when I try to turn around.

Seaside Hill - Ocean Ruin. Y'know that final sneaky shortcut?

Race that course for four laps on the easiest difficulty with the fastest racer you've got. Should you be successful with that shortcut (you need at least a Stage One Boost to make it) on every lap, you'll have a big enough lead over your rivals to stop, turn and reverse over the line at the end of your final lap.

I did it with Dr. Eggman in Shibuya Downtown, but that's because I was showing off. :D

I've just done it on my PS3 first try on Icicle Valley using Aiai on Beginner, it was fairly close though but yayz another Trophy. Now to go do it on the other 3 versions

When you get to the wooden, bridged area near the end, there's a gap you can jump over right at the start of the section to skip out most of it. After you turn left into the section, instead of turning right, go straight ahead.

The board walk before the finish line. When you enter the board walks go left instead of right for a sneaky jump short cut.
