Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing

UnWiished uses a less detailed version of it's 360 counterpart.

Storybook, Brawl and Rush use the same model, just of varying detail. I've just been scouring for my comparison pic, but can't find it. Don't let texture an animations fool you- Brawl Sonic has floppy quills and whereas SatSR Sonic has more rigid ones, but thats only a matter of animation. SST uses the same model again only with more detail (at least on the HD versions).

Indeed. Link of Sonic the Hedgehog series hacking fame confirmed that the Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Storybook, and Mario & Sonic series models are one in the same (with very minor animation modifications and texture styles between games), down to texture coordinates and polygon count (with Sonic and the Secret Rings being an exception, lacking mouths).

That being said, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of Sega Superstars Tennis do not use the Wii series models, but rather Sumo Digital's own custom models from my understanding (Most noticeable if you were to place the models side by side, seeing as there are some very blatantly obvious differences...or you could just take one look at Eggman). The DS version also uses custom models, as well - I ripped and paired them up with their Rush and Mario & Sonic series counterparts, and they didn't match up. I don't own the Wii version of Sega Superstars Tennis, so I don't have any input there.

The mouth on the Unleashed model swaps sides with the camera. It's less a a hard thing to do, more so just something you have to remember that you're going to have to do early in development.

So if that's the case, then in an online race would my racer's mouth placement be unique for each player's viewpoint or would other players see my racer's mouth (Sonic, Shadow or Amy) switching sides? (not looking for an answer, just musing)

Ooh! I love comparison pics! Would you happen to have any showing off the differences between the Wii models and/or Unleashed/Sumo models?

Alright guys, I'm back.

Anyway, remember what Steve Lycett said about exclusives for each system? Well, the Wii already had its exclusive revealed: a tangible item. I wouldn't doubt it if the DS version comes with a Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing-themed stylus. So this pretty much seals the deal of there not being any exclusive characters for the Wii and DS versions.

They're on my desktop computer. D:

Surely the set's lying elsewhere on the Internets, though. I could always whip up another comparison from some screenshots or something.

Until then...

Wow. This is totally unfair. I get banned for posting a pic semi-related to the topic, yet you guys are totally allowed to talk about "retarded character models"?

I call blasphemy.

Also, here's an awesome trailer regarding Rare switching to Microsoft:

Nothing on New Years day, not unless someone is in line to get a big bit of overtime since it's a bank holiday.

Some people would still have to be there in case it totally buggers up, and that it's the right stuff that gets uploaded. Either way someone will have to be there to look over it all.

If Sega needs somebody, I'll do it! :D Just leave me be in the big empty offices... (muahahaha)

Bring me a mug or some sort of souvenir, please!

It would be really cool if they brought a New Years Trailer.. When does it count as a bank holiday? Already today and/or tommorrow?

BTW, the release date is baaaad. One Piece Season 2 Voyage 6 is coming in March and Mass Effect 2 is coming out end of January. I don't know how I'm going to get the money for everything, seeing as I'm sure I forgot a game or something else :-/

I dunno if this was mentioned in here, but I was watching the claymation Sonic 1 commercial, and Sonic's dancing on the back of the car. He's got a chauffeur here so he's not driving, but it reminds me of his taunt in this game. I wonder if Sumo's familiar with this piece of Sonic history, because that'd be a crazy reference.

That Sonic isn't a meme? oO

The music in that commercial is awesome. Was that version ever released otherwise?

I don't think they are referencing it, if I heard right it was a japanese commercial, so pretty much noone outside of Japan would know it.

I can't see what are you talking about, but that commercial is awesome :D

It wouldn't be the first time they throw something unknow to the general public... what about Zobio & Zobiko? :P

Okay, if it wasn't for the logo I would think that's another game's shirt =/ (probably Unleashed, but i'm not good with this stuff)

Sonic running has nothing to do with the game :(

If Sonic has a moonwalk taunt, I'll lose it.

Ryo's taunt should be holding up a copy of Shenmue 3 and then throwing it under his tires.

The four circuits we sampled were Billy Hatcher’s Blizzard Castle stage and three circuits based upon Sonic’s Green Hill (known here as Seaside Hill) and Casino Night stages.

So I guess more than one track based off a single area confirmed?

Err... I wouldn't count on that. In that same sentence, they make the mistake of thinking that Seaside Hill and Green Hill are one and the same.

Count on it. Dread confirmed it after his last play-date with SEGA.

All I have to say is fuuuuuuu....

So much for variety. (although Mario Kart has always been guilty of the "Circuit 1,2,3,4,5...")
