All-Stars Racing Transformed: The Racer Roster Thread

Ikaruga was just a gunship though, i couldn't see it as an land vehicle or boat to be honest, Vyse gets away with it since the focus is solely around him as a character so having his air ship somewhat being turned into a vehicle works, but we only Know Ikaruga as the ship, not the person piloting it.

having it change shape into something unrecognizible or highly out of its comfort zone would ruin it.

its also very very unlikely to get into the game... maybe a level but that is stretching ridicilously far.

All these eastern characters...

I think Sumo's generally trying to opt for characters that are more popular in the west (excepting maybe Segata Sanshiro who has a cult following in both regions). Some exceptions apply but overall I think the selection is chosen by popularity in Europe and North America. The more niche and east you go the less likely the characters are to be added. So that leaves out things like Hatsune Miku.

What the heck does Miku Hatsune have to do with this? Because there is hardly any reason for you to mention her as a possible character.

SEGA hold her gaming license and have collaborated with Vocaloid in the past, but thats about it.

Really? That I did not know.

just some obscure referencing for those that cared of course, in the Project Diva Extend game, the player could unlock a Sonic 20th outfit for Miku to wear in the game, was a Hoodie with Sonic's quills and ears built into the hood, white gloves, blue trousers sporting the 20th logo on the leg and sonic's shoes,

Vocaloid also made a "Remix CD" as part of the pre-order bonus for when the game was announced where Miku did her own covers of Certain SEGA game songs, Sonic Adventure 2, Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity, Valkyria Chronicles 3, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On, the only one i cared about was Live & Learn for SA2.

that and SEGA made the Project Diva Games anyway, as well as make the SEGA Prize figures.

Uekawa also drew a piece of her for the Vocaloid Calender last year using this image

Yes there is. Miku and Sega have been going hand in hand quite a lot lately, The Hatsune Miku Project Diva arcade game is one of the most popular games in Japan and Singapore right now and it was made by Sega. Also they gave Miku a ton of cameos in things like Phantasy Star Portable 2 (there's an entire equipment set based on Miku's leeks, as well as a Miku costume) in addition to all of what Peacock described above.

Ikaruga was just a gunship though, i couldn't see it as an land vehicle or boat to be honest, [...] we only Know Ikaruga as the ship, not the person piloting it.

That's fine. The Vic Viper from Gradius is regarded as a character in and of itself even though it's just a ship as opposed to the person piloting it. Hence "he" always appears in Konami's crossover games as a living ship with "his" own personality, in the style of Opa-Opa.

I already got the explanation from Peacock dude, as I'm sure you've already read all that before you even posted.

i don't know, doesn't seem right doing it to Ikaruga, just wouldn't look right imo

i always took Ikaruga as a serious shooter with a sad ending, seeing it as a racer in a game that implements more than flying and transforming vehicles would ruin it imo.

it could work, but i'd prefer it not to lol

in fact i'd say Miku would have a stronger chance than Ikaruga making it into this game.

Whatever, I don't care about Ikaruga anyways. Just tossed it out there for posterity's sake. As I said, I hated that game.

Wouldn't mind seeing Shyna though. I have a friend who really likes SM. Treasure supported Sega all the way through the Genesis and Saturn days so it seems pretty right for one of their characters to be in.

there's also a lot of porn out there of Sonic and Miku. But if that were reason enough to let her in, the Lorax would be a candidate too.

Sorry, what were we talking about?

People are forgetting Axel from Streets of Rage. I haven't seen him mentioned ever.

I have a feeling he's a strong candidate to be in the game driving a police car. Sumo expressed interest in him last time, so...

oh hell yes.

I've played through the second game a couple of times now. He's pretty rad. Isn't he an ex-cop though? Don't know how well a police car would work in that case.

Thinking back, despite owning a Megadrive when I was much younger, I didn't really get into games until the N64, so perhaps I'm not really the target audience for ASRT, but...

There was one game I fondly remember from those days. I remember Kid Chameleon. I have no idea how that guy would work as a racer, but it'd be fantastic to see him and his own transformations once again.

Was never a big fan of the game, but it was also about transforming, so it kinda fits, huh?

Sorry...

So how about Gumm from Jet Set for a racer everyone? I may not have played Jet Set, but the characters weren't anything to scoff at.

I'd rather have Corn in his JSRF clothes.

Anywho, I'm really surprised that the Babylon Rouges from the Riders series are nowhere to be seen. I'm kinda hoping they and maybe one Riders track make it in, that would be pretty cool.

Are you forgetting the bomb attack from the first game in which you summoned a cop car to rain fire on your opponents? It's obvious his car is going to be that. Axel clearly still has connections in the force even if he is an ex-cop.

Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle definitely deserves some love, as does Sakura wars.

Well, if a character don't appear in this game, I hope they appear in Project X Zone somehow, since that game is also showing some much needed Sega love.

Man now I've gotta go play it. look what you did.

I'm mostly familiar with the second game, which owned on a classic collection for the SEGA Dreamcast. I would usually only play it in Multiplayer.

I tried the third game but it was balls hard. Also Axel's Grand Upper got a nerf. :(

You know it's a damn shame that Sega has all these great franchises and they're not using them for anything. If they played their cards right they would've been a giant like Nintendo.

I've been playing Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection lately, and you know what struck me? Beyond Oasis.

That's an AMAZING game. They should bring it back in some capacity, maybe give it a reference in this game.

I wonder why Shadow was left out of the reveals of this game first appearing out. Maybe there trying to find a way to make him use a car without the bike he had in the last two games?

If Miku is in this, Im out...

Well no, but ill hate to see her in. I want SEGA CHARACTERS, and Miku is not a Sega character, even if they have the rights to make videogames and concerts (also I guess the rights of the character itslef still belongs to Crypton, who created her).

Hopefully it means he's not in this game but that's highly unlikely. I think they're already done with all the characters and development from here on out is just balancing and polishing. Shadow would be one of the easier characters to create, just give him a jeep from his failure of a GTA-style platformer.

A jeep would be ooc for Shadow. I was thinking a muscle car.

Muscle car? That'd be interesting. It would actually help to develop Shadow as a character. All this time he had an interest in classic automobiles? That's pretty slick I gotta say.

Or they're either keeping it secret or he's not in. The former's the most likely, but even that's not a guarantee.

Although they could always use his kart he had in Battle (bottom left):

I wouldn't expect any characterization and development would really matter in a game like this since there's not really much of plot for it.
