Uh, maybe they're going the 'competitive' route because many of the guys at SuperBot really enjoy that approach and prefer to work on something they'd like? It's not as if beating SSBB at that is hard, I mean that game has tripping RNG bullshit - an instant disqualification.

Besides, if the first association you make to three different levels of character-specific special attacks charged by proficient fighting and capable of deciding the match if properly landed is "Final Smash", that leaves you in a poor position to discuss about "serious" fighters ;P

They're the only way of doing any actual damage. I seriously don't see how this game even comes close to be something like the combo play we see in actually serious fighters. Besides, Melee (especially Melee) and Brawl had combos too, if we're going the route that it's serious business just because it has some form of combo.

You're going that route. No one else is. You're simplifying everything and only looking at combos. There's more to making a game "legit" and "competitive" than just that.

Other than the combos they've been showing off, there's nothing to call this game a true competitive fighter to stand with Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, Blazblue, and Tekken. It's just Smash Brothers, which CAN be competitive it's just not the same type of game. I think it's just stupid that they're trying to deny what the game is, I'd respect them more if they said 'Hey, everyone likes a Smash Brothers type game, so we decided to try our hand at it'. Granted, I'm not really excited about what I've seen so far, though. Not going to buy it, probably, so I guess my opinion could be moot since I don't like the game anyway.

You know what I meant. It's too similar to not be a clone but, I'm ok with them taking a lot of inspiration from the Smash series because, that series is loads of fun. You use what works, and there's nothing wrong with that.

And yet I find it hard to call the game competitive when there isn't even a damage meter, and a reliance on what amounts to Final Smashes. Even Smash had a damage meter. I'm sorry, I think they're being fucking stupid acting like it's some kind of competitive fighter. I shouldn't have said it's damning that they do because, it probably isn't but, it just comes off as a pathetic attempt to say "See? Our game ISN'T Smash Brothers because, you can use your Street Fighter Fight Stick! This game is serious business!".

I fail to see the problem. So.... you can use an arcade stick... when did more control options become a bad thing? If they want to market it as competitive let them. Smash, especially Melee and Brawl never did so and they can be competitive as hell. Shit, APEX, the annual Smash Tournament is held about an hour away from my house each year and it has a ridiculous turnout.

Now, my eyes might be deceiving me, but after spending a few minutes trying to look past the watermarks I'm almost certain that's Ninja Theory's Donte as opposed to the Capcom one. In which case:

Guys, just like the pre-order bonuses of alternate skins for characters (you know, like full new costumes and looks, not just recolors), I'm sure one of Dante's will be the Dante you all know and love. I don't see why it's such a big deal to freak out about it yet XD.

Good Cole and Evil Cole as separate characters? For inFAMOUS to apparently be the only franchise with double representation just seems bizarre. So much yes at Spike though. But I don't see Crash Bandicoot. Damn, probably Activision being dicks.

I'm disappointed over how static all the levels look like. All visual, no substance. The pitch honestly looked a lot better than the actual game and it sucks that it doesn't look like the train level is in. While I'm aware this might not be final because beta and all, considering how close we are to release it's probably a very late build and we all know how things went down last time a certain demo was released and datamined.

Also no Solid Snake? Wow.

*shrugs* More than I know anyways; I know jackshit about DMC XD. I figured they looked kinda close enough to have a skin swap, like the difference between the Kratos one and his Deimos or whatever his alternate pre-order skin was, since it goes as far as editing hair and junk.

Or hey, they'll just be redundant enough to give you both separate characters instead since Cole's doing it *smashed*

This stuff aside, I'm not too flustered on any roster changes, because in this day in age and with it being a Sony handled thing and not Nintendo, I don't doubt for a second we'll get a few DLC characters anyways. Not saying that's the magic fix button or that DLC will be anything worthwhile, but I guess I'm leaning with the "well it's possibly not a real 'final roster'"

Spike & Fortesque are nice choices. And I really like the Loco-Roco stage.

I never played Infamous, but what's the difference between Cole and Evil Cole to warrent them not just being costume swaps?

Incentive to replay the game twice just to get a different ending.

Also whether you'd rather charge up a lightning blast or rip shit up with Star Wars-esque arc lightning.
