Sonic 2 special stage music in my Generations? My life is complete now and my nostalgia boner has never been so hard and long.

It's better then Sonic 4 obviously, but I still don't really like how classic Sonic controls. I hate his jump. :/ Feels bad man.

I get why a lot of people would dislike this game, but some people don't actually like the series anymore. They may like some games out of nostalgia, and they keep expecting new titles to have that same feeling they get from re living their childhood. It will never work, they are looking for different things in their games now.

So I'm not entirely done with Sonic Generations, but I have something to say considering the complaints I've heard (Planet Wisp, Time Eater, short game, story).

Work on Generations began after Unleashed. Between Unleashed and Generations we also had Colors Wii and DS and Sonic 4: Episode I. Maybe it's just me, but I can't help but feel that when Generations was being worked on, they had lots of ambition (as they've had with most Sonic games), but unlike with Sonic 06, they managed to pace themselves well and get accomplished most of what I'm certain they set out to create.

However, what if they never made Sonic Colors or Sonic 4? What if they just focused only on Generations, pooling all their sub-teams together to work on Generations alone (with the new cast and writers being introduced with Generations, not Colors). I can't help but wonder if we would've had more stages (maybe 2-3 per era), bosses, and without Colors, the slot of Planet Wisp as a final stage could've been filled in by a grander original stage to pay tribute to the history of the FINAL stage, even.

What do you guy think? Do you think if SEGA didn't do Colors and Sonic 4 we could've had the nitpicks and little errors of Generations polished? I would love if SEGA decided to rethink their model of Sonic games and slow things down a bit with their releases to really give time to polish the ends and bits.

Without Sonic 4 and Colors, you would have missed out on a crap ton of vital feedback. You can't tell me the Generations dev's weren't looking over their shoulders at the negative receptions 4 got from the series fanbase. Sonic Team may have been divided amongst these projects, but its not like they didn't learn from each other at least a little bit

Man the first four bosses were over even faster than I thought they would be. Bizarrely, I found Shadow and Perfect Chaos to be even easier than Metal and Death Egg Robot. As as the Modern bosses go, Silver lasted longer than those before it but Egg Dragoon was the one to leave me feeling the most satisfied.

I was really looking forward to Shadow's too, given that I've always loved the Ark levels and the whole space trope.

Levels-wise, I think I enjoyed Crisis City with both Sonics the most. I don't really see what the reviewers were complaining about with Modern's. It didn't seem a mess to me at all. I didn't even die on it. However I do understand what was said about Seaside Hill. In my opinion Modern doesn't control smoothly enough for some of the 3D platforming sections in that level.

I at the very least think that Colors was a bit of a necessity given how the series was trying to recover at that point and would need a bigger push than what Unleashed try to do. It was sort of that game that helped drive the point home on what they were doing to help make the series get further back on track.

Aside from that, they could've given up and put more effort into Generations, but then again I'm one of those folks who isn't going to bother too much with games like Sonic 4 anytime in the near future.

Just want to ask this, did any else find Sonic's fucking friends voices in the final battle annoying? "You can do it Sonic's" shut the fuck up!!!!!

For one of the rare moments I complain about Sonic's friends, YES! My God did they talk too much in that fight, even Heroes was more bearable than that when the final boss came around.

Looks like a homing shot! Looks like a Homing Shot! Looks like a homing shot! Looks like a Homing Shot! Looks like a homing shot! Looks like a Homing Shot! Looks like a homing shot! I'll C+P a bit I wrote about the game in the PC thread:

Is it wrong that I feel genuinely sorry for people who have to experience this on consoles compared to PC?

The difference is utterly mindblowing. I completed the game on PC while I waited for my CE to arrive in the post, and my jaw was dropped throughout most of the game. It's stunning. Beautiful. I'd even go as far to say that I think it's the best looking game I've ever played. Sure, there's a few texture issues here and there, but overall the attention to detail is amazing!

...then I played the 360 version, which looked dull and horribly pixelated (especially the cutscenes, they just looked unforgivably pixelated) in comparison. All on the same screen (I use my TV as a monitor), so it's a fair comparison.

Gameplay-wise, I love the Modern levels for the most part. There were a few very cheap deaths here and there (especially in Sky Sanctuary), but it's fine-tuned and most importantly, downright fun.

It's not that I had a problem with Classic's gameplay, it just didn't seem to excite me as much as the Modern stuff. And the jumping physics do seem a tad iffy, but nothing to worry about really. Still amazing, nonetheless.

And that final boss? It was shit. SO shit.

Crisis City Restored!! Look what a great job I did!!

Yaaaaay! You saved the dystopian ruined city of death in the bad future of a timeline happily erased because it sucked.

You get a medal =D

This makes quite a bit of sense. It seems to be one of those "on the one hand...on the other hand" kind of questions, since while on the one hand there is POTENTIAL that some things could've been tweaked for Generations without Sonic 4 and Colors, "on the other hand" the feedback of Colors and of 4 could've left us with who knows what. Heck, isn't there a source that said that Classic Sonic would've been only a cameo and not a feature in Generations until Sonic 4 reception, or was that just a rumor?

Beat Shadow last night, took me six minutes, and I actually had a lot of fun. Ended up having Shadow go into his attack mode, was really cool to see him teleporting around like that. Still holding out to get the last couple of boss keys since I want to go through some more missions before tackling Perfect Chaos.

It's pretty good. Miles better than Adventures pinball game. Classic and Modern Sonic have different abilities on the table and they move smoothly. Heres a video.

It's still no Casino Park.

Finished the story mode last night, and completed missions up to Sky Sanctuary today.

Honestly, I love the game. I read the complaints here and I respect people's opinions, but I have not loved a Sonic game this much since Sonic Adventure 2. So many awesome moments, so much care and attention going into the game. For me, it's a 9/10. Three more unique bosses would have pushed it to a 10. I think a sub boss for each era would have been great. My picks: Fire Breath from Sonic 3 (first mini-boss in the series), Zero from Sonic Adventure and one of the Colors bosses. Maybe Rotatatron?

edit: oh yeah, here's a glitch I found:

Loved pretty much everything about the game besides the final boss fight. Modern Sonic basically plays like a hybrid of Unleashed and Adventure, a winning compromise in my book, and Classic Sonic feels classic enough to me. I can't be arsed to spend my time bitching about minor, insignificant details instead of having fun. I do really wish we could have gotten a CD level, and I wish the story had just a bit more meat to it, but aside from that, fantastic game.

And I can play Crisis City with Palm Tree Panic's music. That right there makes the game a fucking eleven out of ten.

Ok, I just go the PC Version, and heres a question:

What the heck is up with the control layout on this game!?

I mean, for movement you have the arrow keys, so thats obvious...

But why is the jump/homing attack on the d key, the boost is on the S key, and the quickstep is A and H for some reason!

Anyone know how to change this?

So um... I finished Game today (Story Mode) and its great. But instead of focusing on things that are good I will focus on bad ones (since game is really good).

1. Who da hell gave concept for that Final Boss?

You cant see rings. Especially while playing as Modern Sonic. And while playing classic its pain in the ass to hit him.

You all complain way too much. This game is fantastic. These people have put a lot of effort into this and I'm glad of the outcome. I've yet to fight the Egg Dragoon but so far I'm really enjoying this game. Thanks SEGA!

I'd just like to point out, that despite the criticisms I made about the game, I am loving everything else. The references, the visual design, the music, the last cutscene =D, to name but a few. There are just far too many positives to list. =]

I'm enjoying Generations so far smile.png The levels were fun and I have yet to go through more soon, Music is awesome as always but I can't help but feel the story/plot is lacking somewhat like why do most scenes last less than 30 seconds, there's not much interaction between Sonic and other characters just mainly expressions used for every small scene :/ aside from Tails as always, some missions are annoying. I still haven't warmed up to Roger's Sonic voice x_x but I won't let that get to me too much (but thank god you don't hear Amy much), there's still much I have to see in this game though so I'm just gonna experience and enjoy for now then give the good and bad when finished and completed but I'm loving this I haven't had this much fun since Unleashed, can't wait to play more soon biggrin.png

S-ranked everything up to Seaside Hill and it's getting seriously exhausting. I think I'm just gonna focus on clearing all the missions until somebody confirms that there's something to be gained for S-ranking all ninety missions.

Finding the red rings means finding the shortcuts which are invaluable for beating the doppelganger races, but they're still murder.

I loved everything up until the end of the game where things fell flat. I enjoyed Planet Wisp Classic but Planet Wisp Modern was a big disappointment for me. Way too much of the act was 2D— once you get inside the construction site, there's really only one very short 3D area. The 2D sections weren't poorly designed, but It just seemed strange for Modern Sonic's final stage to be almost all in 2D. I mean, the stage even ends in a 2D section.

Then there's the final boss...ugh. I still haven't beat it and I'm not sure I really care to. There's nothing exciting or epic about the boss in the first place and then there's the fact that it's poorly designed as fuck. It's basically impossible to see the rings, Super Sonics still fly awkwardly and are hard to control, and the boss is just a general pain in the ass. Only reason I even care to beat it is so I can unlock Super Sonic.
