Generations 3DS Chat - Oh look guys new rules (p.58)

You know what... after thinking it over, I think I might forgive Dimps for SG3DS. To an extent anyway.

I mean, taking into account that Dimps weren't as privileged on development time for the 3DS, sort of being pushed to do so at the last minute - and being the first Sonic 3DS title - I'll forgive the level design. Think of it as testing the temperature before jumping into the pool, we'll get used to it and Dimps will get better. They haven't had enough time to work on it fully, with the 3DS being new territory for Sonic. Heck, remember his first jump into the Xbox360/PS3?

That did NOT end well. But things got a lot better since.

I'm sure that next time they'll get a better shot. Heck, if SEGA/SonicTeam/Dimps did take into account what was said during that community panel, Sonic 4: Episode 2, being developed by SonicTeam and Dimps, and with a bigger budget, working on consoles they should be used to work on and obviously more development time, should be a much better title than once predicted, and hopefully after Generations and CD, we'll hear word on it quickly.

Stage selection though... I'm not going to point fingers at Iizuka-san or Dimps, but somebody obviously made the decision.

Imo, the absence of Game Gear stages, at least possibly in the single player campaign, isn't that big of a loss. Looking at the past today, a lot of fans know of the more Genesis games and very little to nothing of the Game Gear games. The only Game Gear exposure that people have had since the 90's weren't until Sonic Adventure DX on the Gamecube as unlockables for every few emblems, and I'm certain that very few people paid a lot of attention to those. Despite their rerelease on Gems Collection, the big three of that compilation were Fighters, R and CD [uS]. Heck, I don't think a lot of Wii users explore the Game Gear/Master System collection to download them either.

Advance stages, however, is an entirely different story to me. They honestly could've omitted either Emerald Coast or Radical Highway, or replace the Dreamcast era altogether with a GBA era, which was mainly Sonic's first big step into handhelds along with SEGA becoming a 3rd party around that time. When they said they'd celebrate Sonic's handheld history, all we'll see is a stage or two from the Rush series and that's it. That's not nearly enough, and to be honest, I'm very bummed about it. I don't mind the inclusion of home console bosses at all, but... really? No mention of Advance at all? Rush wasn't where Sonic started big!

I considered getting Generations as my first 3DS game, but now I'm having second thoughts. Really, really heavy second thoughts. Based off the content that's been put in, in any case.

Also, the lack of variety for the Rival stages. Having them set in the exact same place altogether is one thing, but when they're out of place - Metal Sonic in Casino Night - it's a bit of a turn off for an Anniversary title.

Though if I can get to play a 3DS demo somehow - which I doubt, being in Canada doesn't have that many a privilege unless there's a demo at a gaming store - that would be the make-it-or-break-it deal for me. If I enjoy it? Then I think I'll get it after all. If not? Then... possibly when the price is reduced over the course of many months.

With the exclusive multiplayer environments, there'd better be at least an Advance stage though.

Level design? Forgiven. Chosen environments? Not so much. Nothing else seems to bother me, so that's a plus.

Two things

1:The physics really aren't that bad. From what i've seen, C sonic's physics are closer to the originals than at least the console version.

2:The stage selection is fucking pathetic. So far we have 2 green levels, 2 city levels (extremely different cities, but cities nonetheless), and a beach. At least Sonic Team is actively trying to differentiate levels like SSH and RR from GHZ and CE, from what i've seen DIMPS will be doing none of that. Fuck, at this rate I bet the last levels are Night Carnival and Plant Kingdom.

San.ake from Sonic Retro has translated the contents under the story from the website.

PS3/XBOX360 version

Today is Sonic's Birthday.

A party is about to start, full of treats Sonic's friends prepared.

Or so it was supposed to...

A mysterious monster attacks out of the blue,

Sonic's friends are absorbed into a vortex,

and Sonic is left helpless.

Nothing but a white world in front of his eyes...

What is this place? Where are his friends?

Everything remaining a mystery,

an adventure that crosses both space and time starts!

3DS version

Sonic is invited to a birthday party Tails organized.

With a chili-dog in hand, Sonic is in a good mood. However...

A mysterious monster attacks out of the blue

Tails is absorbed into a vortex

and Sonic is left helpless.

Nothing but a white world in front of his eyes...

What is this place? Where is Tails?

Everything remaining a mystery,

an adventure that crosses both space and time starts!

So Tails will be the only one to disappear in the 3DS version. Shame. sad.png

Without specific words, we knew about this a while ago. Only characters important to the story will be in the 3DS version, which is Sonic, Tails, Eggman and apparently Metal, Shadow and Silver. They're just bosses, but selling points to the uninformed I suppose.

Also, I just remembered one this the 3DS does better than the console version- classic springs. You have to jump/land on them instead of just walking into them, and as it's being built off of the Rush engine, I'd assume they aren't totally scripted either. 3DS: 1, Consoles: 1,000,000.

You and me both. They could've at least had advance stages as multiplayer only stages (like the ones in sonic 3 & knux)

The guy who agrees with me has a Hydreigon avy? Freaking sweet.

Heck, if only there were Chaos Angel...

Though there's no actual word on what those stages might be... Heck, compared to the HD version, the 3DS version is still a huge mystery.

On that note, with Silver's confirmation in the 3DS version, it could also mean one of two things.

Either they put Silver into a Rush or Modern console stage, or we're getting an '06 level with Rush stages as possible multiplayer stages.

So yeah like I said Silver got confirmed for 3DS ver. via JP website. This can mean that Rivals are IMPORTANT to plot. I hope so. Oh and THAT ART!!!!!!

Or that they're just recognisable characters they can use to market the game even though they're just simple boss fights.

Well thats a point. When I ask someone in mu country if they know any Sonic Characters besides Sonic they almost always say: Shadow, Metal, Silver, Tails, Knuckles and sometimes Blaze or Amy.

Though it looks like the 3DS version will be the better of the two, if you grab the PSN or XBLA demo you'll get a grasp on how the game will feel. If you were a fan of Sonic Colors on the DS, or the Sonic Rush series, Genertions can't be more highly recommended and will take the series to new heights. Be sure to grab your white and reds and start collecting rings on November 1st.

I'm gonna lol so hard if the 3DS version is the higher-scored one.

So, according to them;

-Console version feels slower.

-Big Arms was a challenging boss required all of Sonic's skill to beat.

-The handheld version looks to be the better version.

-I'm the president of the United States.

Well the inferior versions of Unleashed and Colours scored higher than the better versions. I wouldn't be surprised.

Well, we're gonna start seeing reviews possibly next week for the HD version.

After SonHigh Gendefinitions releases, we might get plenty of Sonintendo Gen3dimensionScreenserations info afterward. I'm guessing there wasn't much of a buzz over simultaneous releases, namely Colours getting more attention on Wii, but this is Sonic's 20th after all.
