Oh lawd, I wish the Werehog was in so bad. If this is the raeg from Silver being in, then the raeg from Mr. Fluffy Mouse making an appearance would've been catastrophic.

He shouldn't hate the game for Silver being in it at all, after all, Sky Sanctuary being in the game cancels out anything bad. >w>

Nepenthe's epic post of pwnage reference.

He's a part of the franchise's history whether you like it or not. Hence his inclusion in Generations inspite of his unpopularity.

Also, how about we improve the writing and character development etc. rather than chucking the character away wholesale? Is that not unreasonable? You can't possibly hate a character that existed in a single game (in which every goddamn character was shit and poorly written) so much that you think he's completely unredeemable.

In Unleashed every character was poorly written, and I certainly hate Chip more than anyone else on these forums, and feel he is absolutely and utterly irredeemable. Some characters can be just so awful for people that they wish they could just forget they ever existed.

I may think all the hate for Silver's characterization is completely unjustified, but I realize people think my hatred of Chip is unjustified as well. It isn't unjustified in my case though, because I know exactly why I hate Chip, even if I'm never able to properly communicate it to anyone else. I'm sure there are people who truly despise Silver and have their own very well thought out, at least to themselves, reasons for hating him. They aren't all just blithering idiots who's knee-jerk reaction to a new character is never-ending contempt.

The moral of the story is: It's okay to hate.

He's characterized as being a cocky guy with a strong sense of justice (Sonic), while still being naive and uncertain of himself (Tails) and more than a bit gullible (Knuckles).

That personality quirk is the one thing that makes him interesting, he's not a flat character. There's some depth and complexity there, not the sort of two dimensional "deep" characters we usually see in this franchise.

I completely understand this...but hypocritical bullshit can only be ignored so much.

This is also true for Shadow...

I think people just want Sonic to always be 1 dimensional character like Mario, but the reason why Shadow is liked just as much as he is hated is because he actually...like...a person. He has feelings and plenty of flaws in his character...while Sonic has always been a mary-sue in "most" of his games.

You can't hate a guy who gives you nothing to dislike about...and that is why Sonic will always remain in good light with perople in terms of personality no matter how badly he is written...like in Sonic 2006.

Its like disliking a really nice guy for being nice....it just makes you look like an ass in the end.

I don't think that's being lazy, in fact I think the continual usage of a terrible, misplaced character like Silver speaks of plain ol' stubbornness and not realizing your own mistakes. On a concept level, he's just above Shadow the Hedgehog in awfulness and makes me wonder why he still shows up, especially since the one game he made any sense in got erased from continuity(but unfortunately, not from existence entirely).

Don't know why people keep acting like 06 was the only thing that mattered for him

To be fair, the Rivals games were bland western developer spinoffs that no one ever played unless they happend to have a PSP... for some reason...

Much as I do LOVE the Rivals game Aquaslash, you really do give them give them more credit than they deserve. They're obscure spin-offs that very few have played and very few remember.

Oh of course, those obscure, oddball spin-off games that 12 people played, those slipped my mind. Nevermind guys, pack it up, Silver the Hedgehog is a wonderful character.

You mean the two games that almost no one in the fanbase care about?

I loved the two Rivals games; both had their strengths and weaknesses though, and neither were perfect. I found them on the whole about as enjoyable as the two Rush games though. Especially the second, which had some great music and gave us rival battles that were actually fun for once (well, besides the casino arena... that was ass).

I feel special. I am one of those 12 fellas. I'm going down in history baby! Woohoo...

Seriously though why we're judging Silver from one game and bad game that is? He doesn't deserve a second chance?

He looks like a really cool Boss battle that utilizes very nice his abilities throwing stuff at Sonic while he tries dodging them, closing in him and making it count.

Now about his role in the story we'll have to wait and see. Let's not point the finger at him without first experience his role in the game.

I really don't understand this hate for Silver, He's a pretty decent character, with a good look and original abilities. In STH06 his gameplay is the best (or should I say the least broken one). I also appreciate his personality, too bad for his voice (as far as Pete Capella is concerned)

I would like to see his story explained some day, even his bond with Blaze

Anyway if you like it or not, Silver has gained a lot of popularity, and he deserves a spot in this game. Beeing a Rival is just perfect for him

Its called opinions dude, remember? everyone's got one.

For me, while I don't hate Silver, I don't find him interesting in the slightest outside of his abilities. He was obviously created to be the next Shadow, what with the whole: New Hedgehog antagonist to Sonic, New Super Form, Knows Chaos Control, has a sympathetic motive, etc.

The difference being Shadow actually had more complexity to him when he debuted, we found out his story on why he was so bent on revenge, and his connections to Maria to help expand on his character. With Silver, we didn't exactly learn why his future is such a hell hole, ok maybe not that, but his character didn't really portray it as badly as it seemed, and the fact that the little development he could've had was quickly forgotten so he could fight Sonic again, we never learned why he and Blaze were so close and the only time I got that they were friends was his ending.

His later appearances aren't much better: In the Rivals series, its the same story as 06, but he's just a jackass now and not much else there, in Colors his future is all better now without any explanation given.

With that said, I am looking forward to his boss fight in Generations and hopefully it will redeem him in the eyes of some people.
