I highly doubt that anyone here is looking forward to this game anymore.

I highly doubt that anyone here is looking forward to this game anymore.

Hardly, this is one of my most anticipated games at the moment.

Very few games have been able to stir as much emotion in me as the few snippets of footage we've seen from this game. It looks to be one of the most action-packed, emotional and beautifully directed games I''ve seen in recent memory, and I can't wait to experience it for myself.

Besides that nasty fiasco we had last month, there's still a few people looking forward to this game. The exploration and gameplay look fun and I'm really interested in the story, to see how Lara becomes the inexperienced adventurer into the hardened Tomb Raider we know today (well actually that might change in a few years if we see another reboot, ugh).

So yeah you know, I'm not gonna let a little incident in the story ruin what looks to be quite a fine looking game.

As a long time fan of Tomb Raider, I most certainly am not looking forward to Lara Croft: Torture Porn Adventures.

To be fair, I am looking forward to Camilla's performance in True Blood and wonder why she is settling for something that is suitably below her ability as an actress. That's just me though.

Now that I think about it, her character is getting tortured in True Blood too.

I'm still really excited. I enjoyed the first two Tomb Raiders games (only ones I played) and this one looks fantastic.

*only just found out about the rape shite* ...

Ok that's just insulting. This is like Metroid Other M all over again! Not buying this. And I like Tomb Raider! >=|

(btw, with all those likes Pelly gets why does she still have so many dislikes? XD)

It's not rape, it was a dumb comment by one of their PR members.

http://www.vg247.com/2012/06/13/attempted-rape-scene-in-tomb-raider-is-no-longer-referred-to-as-such/

“We had a great E3 with Tomb Raider and received a fantastic public and press response, with the game picking up numerous game of the show awards based on the new direction taken with the franchise. Unfortunately we were not clear in a recent E3 press interview and things have been misunderstood. Before this gets out of hand, let me explain,” he wrote.

“In making this Tomb Raider origins story our aim was to take Lara Croft on an exploration of what makes her the character she embodies in late Tomb Raider games. One of the character defining moments for Lara in the game, which has incorrectly been referred to as an ‘attempted rape’ scene is the content we showed at this year’s E3 and which over a million people have now seen in our recent trailer entitled ‘Crossroads’.

“This is where Lara is forced to kill another human for the first time. In this particular section, while there is a threatening undertone in the sequence and surrounding drama, it never goes any further than the scenes that we have already shown publicly. Sexual assault of any kind of categorically not a theme that we cover in this game.”

The scene Gallagher was defending, was described by Crystal Dynamics’ executive producer Ron Rosenberg to Kotaku last week at E3 as a defining moment in Lara’s life:

“Her best friend gets kidnapped, she gets taken prisoner by scavengers on the island. They try to rape her, and she’s literally turned into a cornered animal. And that’s a huge step in her evolution: she’s either forced to fight back or die and that’s what we’re showing today.”

Gallagher apologized for the deptiction of the scene, stating CD was “sorry” it had not been “better explained,” and that the team would “certainly be more careful with what is said in future.”

People on the last page say it's back-peddling, but there's been tons of fucking times when a PR makes a stupid comment that was unintentional. If you don't like the game cause of the torture, or the way they portray Lara, or the gameplay then that's fine, but stop saying "Rape? No, hate this game."

Or the trailer explicitly showing a rape attempt.

Nope, sorry. It's back-peddling. Before they came along and said "It's rape oh wait no it isn't" it was quite obvious from the goings on in that scene and the rest of the game.

I don't even know what to say about that game footage. We're playing as a cowering and sniveling Lara Croft, as she deals with a bunch of shit? Is this supposed to be fun?

If I'm misinterpreting something, please enlighten me, because this is stupid.

They made a wrong move both intentionally ("you'll want to protect lara", lol rape) and unintentionally (remember those trailer moans?) approaching the game.

Should've focused on the initial concept of putting more emphasis on survivability/semi-open world exploration that made initial previews appealing, not on some half assed attempt at enticing male players under the guise of character 'development'. And there's the gameplay shown in trailers with an over abundance of QTEs or looking like a lesser Uncharted setpiece clone, both of which clash with the original image people had.

Don't think this'll be a bad game, though. I mean, half of the problem is bad choices for PR material.

This thread feels like i'm really on Tumblr.

Anyways, the gameplay really looks pretty fun, maybe a bit Uncharted, but that's not a bad thing, like the RPG elements being introduced, game overall looks interesting. I have little idea what's going on with the whole rapey ordeal so i'll just stay out of that discussion.

Looking at the trailer for the first time... they might as well change the title to

Tomb Raider: Lara Croft has a really bad day.

Seriously, her and Nathan Drake need to sit down and exchange stories one day

Well, the reason I bought this is because I heard it's like Uncharted. Besides, Tomb Raider was out before Uncharted.

I'm sort of sick of hearing "It's like Uncharted" when TR started this back in 2005 with Legend (well when it rebooted the series core gameplay too) when that game was out in 2007 it's really annoying to me.

Even if I honestly believed that the rape thing was just an honest misunderstanding, I'm still left with the other bad attitude that sours this game for me:

"When people play Lara, they don't really project themselves into the character. They're more like 'I want to protect her.' There's this sort of dynamic of 'I'm going to this adventure with her and trying to protect her.'"

Crystal Dynamics has revealed some juicy pre-order incentives for Tomb Raider.

According to the developer, this is "the first of several pre-order announcements", with details coming for other retailers soon.

Crystal Dynamics has also today released the second episode of its 'Final Hours of Tomb Raider' video series, offering a chat with the developers and a loot behind the scenes of the game's development.

If you missed it, the first episode is over here.

I HATE multiple retailer pre-order gift options >_< Second episode of the behind the scenes stuff was pretty interesting.
