Sonic 4: Episode 1 Impressions, Thoughts, & Help Topic

Is it just me, or do the rings look a lot more "golden" in the Wii version, as opposed to the more pale yellow colour they are in the HD version? Those kind of bothered me, so I hope this isn't just me seeing things.

The different Wii soundtrack is a mixed bag, but I don't think it'll bother me too much. Apart from a couple of acts, it's not that bad.

MWAHAHA, I hold the number 2 spot for the Casino Street Zone boss leaderboard!

...Won't be long before THAT'S gone, will it?

EDIT: Make that #1, baby!

My first impression from the Wii version was that the game was fun. Second was that everything about movement felt awkward. Third was that the physics are just plain bad. Fourth was that I want to play the other levels (limiting myself to SHZ1 until the 360 version is out).

It appears I won't be able to use my "Sonic 4's somewhat okay physics" banner afterall.

Wow, Wii version butchered the music, definitely going with the Xbox 360 version of it.

Yeah I know I am totally avoiding getting the Wii version of the Soundtrack & the only track what sounds the same as the HD versions in the Wii version is the Special Stages music lol

I'm not bashing the game, I just don't like the Wii versions music, which is why I'll be getting the Xbox version of it.

Are you guys seriously bashing the game, based on Music alone, its not that bad.

Nobody is. They're bashing the music on its own. That said, the rest of the game deserves a good bashing. Why? In the words of someone else... Is this how I Sonic 4?

Lol no I am not bashing the game based on the music who ever does that is an idiot, anyway I love the soundtrack (besides the Special Stage & EGG STATION music bleh) I just don't like the Wii version of the soundtrack that all.

Interesting to note, The super sonic music is a rearrangement of the original sonic theme song...well its still speculation but it sounds too similar if you play them both simultaneously. Super sonic also has this extreme rev animation, it looks like he's about to explode because of all the effects.

Just had a bash on the Wii version- and one thing is really, really irritating me. Seriously, where is that sound effect from when you collect extra time in the special stages? I've heard in it a previous game and just can't place it- it was driving me crazy throughout the entire thing! XD

Aside from that, it's surprisingly good fun. The level design is a lot better than I expected and the controls, though different, still feel pretty sound. I just wish there were more Zones... that's something I'm hoping they add more of in Episode II (such as the way Sonic 2 increased the amount of Zones when compared to Sonic 1.) Will be buying the Xbox 360 version on Wednesday and am looking forward to seeing how it plays in lovely shiny HD-ness.

That sound effect sounds familiar to me too. I doubt we'll get more zones in one package as long as they release the episodes on WiiWare. We've already had it confirmed today (well yesterday, since it's after 12am here) that they hit Nintendo's strict WiiWare file size limit with the music being compressed down to MIDI format.

EDIT:

Sonic Heroes, bingo chips.

Thanks. Knew I'd heard it somewhere

God damn. The first thought we had was Heroes, but we couldn't place it at all. Now I can play the Special Stages without that driving me mad. XD

On the note of sound effects- I think it's pretty cool they've re-used ones from classic games. It's been fun trying to recognise and guess them all. I noticed a certain one from Oil Ocean popping up in Casino Street, for example.

All right, enjoying the game quite a bit, definitely a great throwback to the classics. :)

But man, I am absolutely stuck at this one part. x_x In Lost Labyrinth, act 2, I'm at the part where you need to light four corresponding torches to make platforms appear to get up ahead. I am stumped at the pattern of how you should light them. Anybody know?

Figured it out, man that was frustrating. XD

Light the one on the far right, wait a second or two, then light the one to its left and head up. If you timed it right, the wall will pull up before the floor pulls out from under you.

This seems to be becoming Sonic 4's CNZ barrel...a lot of people are getting stuck here.

Special stages are pure evil, other than the obvious that's been said over a thousand and one times, game is pretty good.

Need more air momentum though.

Edit: Final boss music sucks, really truly sucks.

Beat the game and got four of the Chaos Emeralds so far. Loving it!!

Eggman's final form was sooo dang tough though. Luckily Casino Zone act 2 gives you so many dang lives that it's not too hard to beat.

^ Have fun getting that DAMN fifth Chaos Emerald. That was the only special stage that really gave me trouble.

I gave in and downloaded the Wii version. My will was just too weak... Well that and my brother's borrowing my PS3 at the moment.

I gotta say this game is fun. Despite some physic problems such as the aforementioned stop at a dime thing, this feels like a classic Sonic game. The graphics are very pretty and even though the music is all midi, it's not too bad(except for maybe the boss theme).

The only real problem I have with this game is that it's so zoomed in on Sonic you can't really see what's ahead of you.

Other than that, I'm having a blast.
