From the latest footage I've seen it doesn't look like Sonic's jump is as floaty... I'm not saying it isn't floaty at all, just less floaty than it was... maybe that's just me though, I dunno.

I know someone with the same build and he feels it's still very floaty and it doesn't feel right at all to him. Hopefully it's something theuy can fix even post-launch, but if the QA team hasn't told them by now how it is, and given how risky it would be for journos to come out and tell the devs tactfully how they feel during interviews, we have to hope they can read reviews or the game's practically going to fall at the first hurdle.

And yes, the final zone does seem a bit unoriginal. Original bosses for Episode 2, please.

Unoriginal mixed with new is fine, all new is fine provided the same amount of imagination goes into the design process as it did before... However, the only new things in this game are the music, level gimmicks (one of which appears highly dubious to me so far) and officially sanctioned 2D homing attack; The zones, as nice as they look, we've seen before (which wouldn't trouble me if other elements were new), the badniks we've seen before (which I'd be fine with if they mixed new ones in), even the bosses - which I loved because on first play-throughs you never did know what was coming - are re-used; that last one really pisses me off as I was hoping for new bosses in the old style. This game and the devs are clearly riding on past glories rather than even attempting to forge new ones.

I hope this changes in a big way for episode 2.

I have not seen all the leaked footage released from the game. I have seen Splash Hill 1, Special Stage and the Mine-kart. I won't see the rest, it's just stupid to spoil the game.

People are complaining alot about this game, on the Sonic Forums. Reused badnicks, bosses, levels, obsticles. Those things are good things. Maby not for you, but for those who bought Sonic back in the 90's. Those who have heard how bad this past decade of Sonic game realy has been. They will see the Casino Street Zone remembering Casino Night. Mix that with new moves, music with a nostalgic feel to it, and those old Sonic fans will eat it. I know i will. Sonic 4 Ep.1 will be Sonic 1 and 2, remabe, remixed, in HD, and is a prologue to Episodes 2 and 3 wich most likely will be all new levels with some old levels remade in between.

A low prized game, a fairly long game, a high-rated game, a game with a nostalgic feel to it <- That's what SEGA is looking for in Episode 1, and that is what customers want. Maby not you hardcore Sonic fans, but you will buy it anyway, since somehow you bought Sonic Riders, and that shit for the Wii with the Secret Rings. And the sequell to Sonic Riders and so on. I mean c'mon, you bought Shadow The Hedgehog...

Not to disrespect your opinion, but you can make a game "nostalgic" without rehashing nearly all of the content.

Mega Man 9 and 10 were classic series games with entirely new content, yet they felt nostalgic, and even their more "nostalgic" moments were actually new, such as the Twin Devil, which is an ingenious twist on the "Yellow Devil" boss. As I said before, this is just laziness even worse than what even Capcom normally does with Street Fighter expansions. Nostalgia is not an excuse for rehashing nearly everything.

I wouldn't take issue with any of the rehashes if they were implemented properly, like, say... having a mid-zone boss be the old school "rehash" boss, and the actual zone end boss be something else (or a version of the aforementioned old boss modified in such a way as to feel or look new). Or mixing new badniks with old ones. You know, not relying entirely on old glories.

People keep saying that, but why do I get the feeling that if they did do this, people would be instead focusing on how "lifeless" and "uninspired" they would be compared to the old stuff?

Actually a lot of people are already saying that because this game relies so much on Sonic 1/2 stuff.

I leave the forums for two days and this happens.

*sigh*

Oh well. I'm not watching those videos this time. I'm not spoiling the other third of Sonic 4 for myself.

It depends what the new stuff were to be, really; whether Dimps' designers can inject the kind of imagination into their badniks as Sonic Team used to. Since they're relying so heavily on old designs, I'm going to assume they're probably not up to the task, but I'm more than willing to be proved wrong by future episodes and plot directions (e.g. Robotnik taking the best elements of badnik design and incorporating them into brand new badniks and bosses).

I actually think a mix of old and new would be better than all old or all new anyway, because you've got the classic designs from the older games and you're mixng them in with new designs inspired by the old games, which hopefully are quite good, and if not are at least balanced out by the presence of the classic badniks.

Wow, all the footage I watched last night was removed from YouTube.

Patticus, what do you mean by "floaty". please explain. Do you mean Sonic stays in the air for too long??

I think Sonic 4 looks so fun, and I can't wait to play it.

Dimps is perfectly capable of creating badniks and bosses that fit in well with the Sonic 1-3 universe. Look at the Advance games.

I expect that we'll be seeing new enemies and bosses in episode 2.

Hell, the fact that

Metal Sonic is in episode 2 leads me to think we'll see a new Metal Sonic boss attack. Unless they simply redo the Sonic CD chase and the Chaotix booby trap room

If Metal Sonic is back, couldn't that just mean we'll be seeing Sonic CD, Knuckles Chaotix and S&K's Metal/Mecha bosses re-enacted?

*spoilers edited out*

CD and Chaotix bosses are somewhat more obscure, especially Chaotix. Seeing those return wouldn't be so bad.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Metal could be playable? I don't see how it would work with Metal working for Eggman, but you know... just throwing it out there.

Perhaps as a downloadable extra, if anything.

I wish Metal Knuckles could join him for a tag team boss or something.

No seriously dude, if you don't want to be spoiled DON'T READ THE THREAD!

Read the topic description smartass.

Unlike you I actually respect other fans who don't want things like

E.G.G. Station being a final space zone and Metal Sonic in episode 2

spoiled for them. It's really very easy to type out a spoiler tag, so why not do it out of respect for others?

And until this page said super-spoilers have not been said outside of spoiler tagged text. Okay, so saying that there are cannons in the Casino Street stages is a spoiler, but doesn't have the same impact as freely stating that

Metal Sonic is the cliffhanger ending.

As Aqua said, it's silly. I've edited my most recent post for you, but it shouldn't be necessary. The entire game has been shown, so hoping to avoid spoilers in the spoiler thread is bizarre.

I'm just respecting what the topic creator (or mod who edited it) states in the title.

Also, as I said above, I think there is a difference between minor spoilers and super spoilers. I consider it the "Snape kills Dumbledore" of the moment.

You're still missing the point that you shouldn't be reading a thread about spoilers if you don't want to be spoiled! I shouldn't have to cover for your lack of willpower.

EDIT: Even the topic description says it!

Guess I'll quote you, since you didn't see my last post.

What do you mean by "floaty"? What does your friend mean?

I was spoiled thanks to a slip about the cliffhanger in a non-spoiler thread. Since then, I've been here talking about said spoilers but had the respect to tag things that are deemed super-spoileriffic aka the final nails in Sonic Retro's Sonic 4 discussion coffin. I simply requested that you and others continue to tag the cliffhanger ending as was done up until the previous page.

Also, YOU seem to be missing the point that the topic title requests that spoiler tags be used. Way to cute fluffy kittens your copy paste of the topic title and omit the mention of "(Spoiler Tags Please)"

it really isn't that hard to do
