Sonic Classic Collection

I'm a little concerned about something. I ordered my copy from Amazon last week... and they say it should arrive tomorrow. There's only one problem though; they haven't even sent it yet.

Could the game have been delayed for Europe? I can't imagine any other reason Amazon haven't sent my copy yet....

ONM's Chris has posted the following in the comments to their review in response to a user called Violet querying slowdown -

I think he's referring to slowdown that also occured in the original Mega Drive versions, I always found it most noticable in Star Light Zone of the original Sonic where there is a large number of those explosive Badniks in a row.

The DS game seems a bit of a rip-off, I recommend people just hunt out Sonic Mega Collection and play it on their Wii.

Nope, we've noticed slowdown in some busy moments where there wasn't any before.

When I was playing Sonic 3, on the first boss, I hit Eggman once and ran to the corner before he burned the bridge. Tails got caught in the corner with Eggman and kept bouncing on him till he destroyed Eggman and his machine!! XD Good boy!!

I just bought this for £30 from HMV because ASDA didn't have it and I didn't want to wait to order it online. What a bloody ripoff. D: I really wish I'd preordered from Play.com, but I hate ordering games online in case the post fails and I don't get them at launch.

I hate being a fanboy sometimes. T_T

But yeah, word of advice- avoid HMV like the plague for this game; apparently they've not heard of 'budget title'.

Last year I would have done the same thing. Becoming a multiconsole gamer has been a blessing as well as a pain... I buy so many games that I have no choice but to find the cheapest offers possible, even if it means missing launch days Dx

There are some games I won't miss launch for though.

Amazon's stock seems to have been delayed for some reason... so who knows when my copy will arive.

Initial comments before I nip off to work for the day-

Is it just me, or does the whole game seem to play in ever-so-slight slow motion? As in, barely noticeable, but as die-hard fans everyone here will probably pick up on it. D: If you look at the clock, it's counting up slightly slower than actual seconds, too.

My only other slight gripe so far (aside from the fact I paid £30 for it) is the framerate, which isn't always as smooth as I'd like. However, at this stage all gripes are negated by the fact I can now play MD Sonic any time and anywhere. Something about having S3&K in my pocket just makes me happy. :3

Thanks for the heads up AAUK! I've got to wait a couple of weeks before I can afford to get this myself even though it is a cheap budget priced title, just had to spend the money I put aside for this on prescription medication >_<

I like how the trailer implies that the games are set at the proper resolution, so that people's hopes and expectations can be crushed once they find that it's actually all squashed up. I am getting used to playing it like that, but I'll be damned if it isn't irritating as fuck that Sega couldn't find a way to move the HUD about to accommodate a better resolution at the expense of some of the top and bottom of the screen.

I went into Game today and seeing as it was release day here for it, had a quick read of the box.

It says "This game will only work on European/Australian region DSi units" under the disclaimers and such, leading me to believe that this sort of confirms the DSi enhancements or whatever.

Strange as to how Nintendo have grouped Australian and European into the same region though, I thought.

So, the game definitely does make use of the DSi in some way. I think it's using some of the DS's updated hardware to make it run slightly better. Any Brits/Aussies/NZers got it yet?

I've got a DS phat and a DSi so I could do a good comparison but I won't be getting the game until 2 weeks from now when I've got some more money. Hopefully someone around here with a DSi and the game will be able to give us a comparison.

I've finally got my hands on this game and, while I am loving the actual classic games, I can't help but feel so little effort has been put into the 'collection' part of it. The menus, Sonic Jam music aside, have absolutely nothing going on and they couldn't even be bothered to change the classic box arts for the UK version? I don't remember playing anything called a Genesis :P

So yeah, I recommend the game but to quote Bentley Jones, it could have been "so much more".

(Megadrive FTW etc)

Seems like it. They're not accessible from the get-go, anyway.

Shame really, I would have loved another History of Sonic video.

That sucks! I normally get my games from HMV for the Pure HMV reward points especially now I've nearly got enough points to buy a £50 voucher with( free money FTW!!).

Woah, even their website is selling it for £24.99  Just looked around a bunch of other sites and they too are selling it around the same price, a few weeks back everyone was selling it between £17.99 and £19.99.

Zavvi have the game as their deal of the day at £17.85 -

I wonder why they would remove those features? Very odd

Did they change their mind about it being a budget title or something, I wonder?

My local Sainsbury's is selling it for 19.99, I plan to buy it on Monday. The prospect of having portable classic Sonic's is too good to pass up, not to mention the extras :D

It's official - I suck at Sonic 3 & Knuckles special stages

Sometimes I do just fine, but others I completely epic fail on. When things speed up and you're surrounded by red spheres and bouncy spheres, one wrong move and it's game over.

Still, I've got 3 Chaos Emeralds so far and am at Marble Garden Zone, which I know is absolutely rubbish as it could've been 5 or 6 by now but... I'm just rusty, I say! :P

The game has always had the RRP of £24.99 which in less than usual. But plenty of places have had it listed for £179 or there abouts. I think you got ripped off paying a full £30 for it.

MK: Nobody is worse at the Sonic 3 special stages than you. Jeez, why don't you just stop playing already? They're a little borked in this collection. The ground jutters about somewhat and makes things confusing.

And there goes Shadzter, stalking the internet for prices again. Nice job!

Gzoop, the Amazon seller, are fantastic. I got my copy of Kameo through them via Amazon. They sell stuff and cheap and don't waste time getting it to you.

Mahzes, return your copy if possible. You got ripped bad.

It's actually nearly unnoticeable in a few stages, I've had to look for it before I saw it. Either way, it doesn't affect gameplay unless you're super sensitive to it, in which case you are royally fucked.

Also, too all the people saying "Get a Nomad" just about everywhere, this would have REPLACED my Nomad.

Lets see, I could carry around four large Genesis games, and a bulky as shit Nomad, and have to manually eject each game when I wanted to switch, not to mention if the batteries died or I turned it off my progress is fucked, but on the plus side they look good!

OR I could pop one game card the size of a quarter into my DS, have several games on it, have a version that fits in my pocket, be able to save PER ACT on Sonic 1, 2, and S&K, and be able to have some serious fun with playing what I want to by hitting an icon and choosing from a screen. Oh, and there's some scale down and a few odd changes that make the game look odd but don't change gameplay at all.

Hmm. What seems more convenient?
