Sonic Boom (Untagged Spoilers)

Yeah I was gonna ask about that since Freiberger has said they are not allowed to use stuff related to the other cartoons/animes and the comics. But it seems a minor reference like that is okay. And it's really edited anyway so they probably just used it to trace over. I'm interesed in knowing what the other comics are based on too. Like the green one and the red one.

I would just like to point out that Pleasant Valley won the Popular vote. Sorry I needed to get that out of my system.

Eggman Obviously Rigged the Voting System

ttVpWe8.jpg

If the results from Eggman’s victory were real, that would have meant that Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles actually voted for Eggman, instead of Amy. Amy only got two votes, we can already tell Amy voted for herself, but who else voted for her? It could have been Sticks, but it was implied that she went into hiding, and wasn’t shown during the voting scene, so we don’t know  if she actually voted. Eggman obviously rigged the vote, there’s no way Sonic or Tails would have been dumb enough to not trust Amy or Sticks, in favor of Eggman. Knuckles however… Well, he sadly did get fooled by Eggman in this episode, since he actually blindly fell for Eggman’s charisma.

Enjoyed the Unnamed Episode. Amy was awesome, Eggman was funny and clever, and there were some heartwarming moments such as Amy taking charge with the village name and trying to stop Eggman legally as well as making Sticks feel better.

The rest of the gang not going to the library with her was amusing, but it was Eggman's "I'm shutting down the media" line that got me. The villagers being too lazy to rename the village was also funny. Sticks being humble and renaming the village after Amy was sweet, but I really think should have thought a wee bit about the name (Pleasant Valley sounds better...) Nitpick aside, they used the spoof music from A Space Odessy movie again, and that Archie Sonic comic in the background!

Plus, this hug at the end was adorable, the writer got Amy and Sticks' friendship down pat.

What will Robot Employees and the Q n' A session bring us! Ooh boy this week's gonna be eventful!

I watched it.. :D and well i think i liked a lot Amy and Sticks moments here it was really cute, i loved to see Amy studying on the library and gotta admit i liked Sticks' ancestor info and the little school in the town ♡

Oh i felt so bad for Sticks on how the villagers were so mean to her... lol even though thanks to that, Amy had a chance in the show to demostrate how good friend she is.

so yeah it was a nice episode.. i kinda had the sensation that this episode had a lot of things going on and it felt longer than usual for some reason  hehe it could be just me tho

I wish more episodes would be like this. A nice mix of comedy, tension, character interaction and heartwarming moments. I don't have a problem with overly quippy episodes but I do prefer to see nice moments like that between characters.

Am I going mad here? People LIKE this episode? How is this even possible? I'm sorry, but... HOW?

The villagers knew she was a badger all along, and they pick NOW to turn against her? Why couldn't this episode have a different name and just have Sticks - and ONLY Sticks - be afraid that she might turn out to be like her ancestor? That would have been a better episode. I cannot and will never understand why the villagers hated/feared Sticks just because her male ancestor was evil. It wasn't even her fault. She wasn't even born yet.

If the writers wanted the villagers to oppose Sticks, they should have had her come into the village (with Team Sonic) for the first time. Fearing that badgers may carry diseases and pass them on to the person that had been bitten, the villagers understandably turn against her. But Sticks isn't giving up, so little by little - after opening up to people - the villagers begin to trust her. Danger comes along (i.e. Eggman), Sticks saves the day and everyone praises her as a hero. The end.

MysteriousGirl 92,

You clearly don't like Sonic Boom.  Why do you keep watching it?

What you missed in this episode is that it was all about racism and how easily politicians can use it to sway the ignorant masses. The Villagers turn on Sticks when they are told that there once was a Badger who did something evil.  Even though it happened 3 or 4 generations ago they start to hate all badgers regardless of whether they personally have done anything wrong.  They knew she was a badger all along, but they didn't know about one evil badger. Much in the same way that people turned on all Muslims after 9/11. You say you " cannot and will never understand why the villagers hated/feared Sticks just because her male ancestor was evil. It wasn't even her fault. She wasn't even born yet." That's exactly the point. Their hatred was meritless. It was the racism of the ignorant. That's a smarter story than Sticks thinking she might turn into her ancestor which is not nearly as topical.

Having the Villagers oppose Sticks because they fear she might carry disease isn't as smart or as topical as the story the Boom writers chose to tell. Your version has a very obvious ending. In Unnamed episode, the ending comes from the fact that one person, Amy, felt that knowledge and information is the only way to battle ignorance so she goes to the library to do research and find answers. The ignorant Villagers boo the library because they are anti intellectual. Once again, timely and smart.

You really should just stop watching the show, you don't like it and you clearly don't understand it.  There must be plenty of shows that you do enjoy.  Why waste time with something you hate? Why complain to people who actually like the show?

ILuvSonicBoom,

I heard a review of the episode and partially watched it to see the viewer's reactions to the episode. I know that this episode was based on racism, and that's what kind of puts me off. The villagers had NO valid reason to turn against Sticks like that, let alone fear her. If anything, Sticks should fear herself for being Jebediah's descendant. And as for my idea, that was meant to be for the beginning of the first season, when she enters the village for the first time.

I hate this episode because of the villagers' stupidity and cruelty towards Sticks. She has always been there to protect the village, and the villagers decide to shun her when they just found out about her ancestry? Give me a break. Why didn't they judge her long before they found about this, like when she got into the village for the first time?

I have to admit that I am in disbelief about how people felt towards the episode. I knew that this episode was going to be a bad one, and as it turns out, I was right.

This is my opinion, and I choose to stick to it.

It was a nice read. But there was no need for THOSE words.

Instead of telling her to stop watching the show, ask her about the problems she has with it, and give her a new percpective on how the show's characters and world operates, as well on references and writers' way of thinking.

Spoiler

So you're saying you want the villages' racism to be thought out and based in reason? Clearly you don't understand racism. If there was logic to it, it wouldn't be racism. Of course the villagers had NO valid reason to turn against Sticks like that, let alone fear her. If they did, this episode would't have been a satirical criticism of racism and ignorance.

You say you "hate this episode because of the villagers' stupidity and cruelty towards Sticks" but racism is stupid and cruel. That's kinda the point of the episode. You just don't get this show.  You don't get the comedy and you want it to be something it's not. A show should be judged on how well it expresses its point of view and its rules not how well it conforms to what you want it to be.

Sorry when you say "it turns out I was right" you were actually wrong.

Zers,

I politely disagree.  Mysteriousgirl clearly doesn't like or understand Sonic Boom.  She comes here after every episode to tell us why those of us who like it are wrong.  Then she posts her "fixes" that are clearly not as good as the actual episode. I truly don't understand why she watches the show if she doesn't like it, why she complains about the show to people who DO like it, and why she wants the show to be a simple, on-the-nose, kids show instead of the the smart, complex, funny show that it is. This episode was smart, satirical and timely. I don't think that she'll ever be convinced that those are good things. A show always seems unfunny to people who don't understand the jokes. This is a kids show that kids AND adults can enjoy.  The show that Mysteriousgirl wants it to be would only appeal to young children.

I understand people not liking a specific episode or not believing a story point.  But why keep watching if you hate everything about the show.  And the answer that she hears about it than just watches a bit of it to see if her preconceived notions are correct then deems them correct and criticizes something she's only half seen just seems odd to me.

Both of these attitudes are completely unacceptable. SSMB is all about discussion and free exchange of opinions. Please at least try to be reasonably respectful and to just present your opinions instead of either acting as though everyone who disagrees with you is crazy, or like people shouldn't bother expressing their opinions. The staff will be keeping a close eye on this topic to make sure discussion stays on track.

If you have any further questions about this post, please PM a moderator such as myself rather than continuing to post about it in this thread. Thanks.

EDIT: Also, a note that you can use our boards' "Ignore Users" feature (available by clicking on your name at the top-right corner of the screen) if a certain user is really bothering you. This is certainly preferable to just telling them to stop expressing their opinions.

I enjoyed the not so subtly hidden references about politics and racism, and also the way the Boom staff managed to foreshadow the US election, but what I really enjoyed most of all was the solidifying of Sticks and Amy's firm relationship. We have had plenty of episodes emphasising that Sonic and Tails treat each other like brothers, their relationship is that strong, and it was great to have an episode mainly based on Sticks and Amy.

It would be nice to have some more episodes focusing on the way other characters treat each other, Tails and Sticks for instance, but on the other hand I doubt that it will happen for some reason. Tails/Sonic and Sticks/Amy are known to have a strong relationship, and I doubt that other sets of characters will be shown to have ones as strong.

Actually, Nutwork did showoff a bit on how Tails and Sticks interact with one another.

Then a Sticks and Knuckles episode. Both are huge lovers of nature, and it would be great to see an episode that reflects off of  that. They could make an episode where Knuckles's carelessness causes him and Sticks to get stranded on a desserted island. Sticks could be scared or furious at first, but lightens up when she sees Knuckles being one with nature. Sticks could realize how despite herself having better survival instincts, Knuckles has a greater appreciation for nature than she realized.

Sticks usually has a more headstrong attitude with nature, which may sometimes fear intimidated wild animals, but Knuckles's gentler treatment and understanding of animals could come in handy. It could be great to see an episode where their ways of handling nature could come into play, and we could see the two learn from each other, in how to handle nature properly.

I'm down for a Knuckles and Sticks episode, heck I don't think there was a Sonic and Sticks episode either or atleast any sort of scenes that shows off their interactions with one another.

The closest we got to a Sonic and Sticks episode, was just seeing Sonic end up escorting Sticks into the Mayor's mansion, in "My Fair Sticksy" but there really wasn't much to it. Sonic gave in to Sticks begging him to help her out, and all he did was train alongside her, under Amy's steps, and lead Sticks down the stairway to the gala. After all of that, that was it. That was the closest we got to an episode about Sonic and Sticks.

I wonder what could work as an episode with Sonic and Sticks. I could imagine one possibility would be an episode where Sticks's worst fears actually come true, and aliens invade their world. Everyone in the village except Sonic and Sticks could get abducted, and stored away in a new home base the aliens built. Sonic is stuck working with Sticks to get them back, but Sticks keeps spouting out a bunch of insane ideas that Sonic continues to ignore. Eventually, Sonic's carelessness towards Sticks's ideas backfire on him, when his recklessness causes Sticks to get captured and put away with the others. Sonic is suddenly all alone, and realizes he should have listened to Sticks. Sonic suddenly decides to wonder "what would Sticks do?" Sonic then ends up pulling off a bunch of crazy ideas Sticks suggested, and he ironically finds out that they are working. Sonic eventually finds the gang, and rescues them. He apologizes to Sticks for not taking her seriously, even after she was right all along about the alien invasion. Sonic then tells Sticks that he and the gang will be willing to follow any plans she has to stop this alien threat.

I think that would be a good setup for a Sonic and Sticks episode. It would be a great way of contrasting Sonic's more careless and "let's get this over with" attitude vs Stick's crazy, yet ironic sense of knowing what's gonna happen, and how to stop it.  We've seen plenty of episodes where Sonic sighs or moans at Sticks's ideas, so to see an episode where he realizes ignoring her strategies got him into a big mess, and to see how far he'll go to set things right would be an interesting way of handling a Sonic and Sticks related episode.

That odd moment when Adult Swim actually promotes Sonic the
Hedgehog's social media site, while it's daytime counterpart Cartoon

Network continues to ignore Sonic Boom's existence... What logic is

there in any of this?!...
