Hopefully Zygarde's forme changing isn't a glorified-but-even-more-crippling Zen Mode, or at least once it changes forme it stays in that forme for quite a while. Otherwise Zygarde 10% may replace 50% as its default forme outside of battle, which would pretty much suck for the poor guy.

Apparently the starters and that dog Pokemon each have some special kind of secret, but they didn't say what these secrets are.

Let me guess: the secret is, "they can evolve".

Uhhh... Well duh, most Pokemon do, but to say they have some specific secret tied to each likely means there's something either to their evolution's or they have something to do with potential side stories/quests like certain legendary Pokemon.

It would be unwise to underestimate the rubbishness of Pokemon "secrets," especially coming from Coro Coro.  Back in the day, they hinted that Zorua's evolution into Zoroark would use a new method of evolution... and it didn't, it just evolves at level 30.

The only "new" method of evolution I can think of, that doesn't involve Mega Stones, is via friendship in the case of Buneary.

What, not Inkay's turn the 3DS upside-down?

To evolve Inkay, you have to get it to at least (I think) 30th level then turn the 3DS upside down at the end of the battle when it levels up.  Malamar is basically a squid standing upside down, so apparently they decided to take that and run with it.

Don't forget in the same Gen Buneary comes from, to evolve Mantyke you need to have another Pokemon altogether (Remoraid) to evolve it.

Hell, there may be some kooky new evolution mechanic GF is thinking of this around like with AR or some crap.

I genuinely think Pokemon evolution methods have gotten convoluted to the point of being sometimes unguessable and need rebooting.  Actually, I think that about a few other things in Pokemon as well.

Very exciting if true, but the use of Gigareki might disprove it, as I understand that that particular copyright entry had some different qualities to the copyrighting of other confirmed Pokemon names like Solgaleo and Lunaala.  I'm also dubious about how the S.M.E. fifth move would be selected, but the supposed new Rotom sounds like a great idea.  Well, we'll find out tomorrow, I guess!

Edit: Apparently the name "Pepeck" is also from a confirmed hoax.  Shame.  The new Rotom forme was a really good idea.

New Information from E3 2016!

  • The Gameplay showed off the Hero's house, Route 1, Route 2, a festival, and some battles
  • Ledyba can be found on Route 1 and is No.20 in one of the Regional Pokedexes
  • When getting close to trainers that want to battle, a widescreen effect will appear on screen

  • Trainers will have a quick 2D artwork frame shown before their 3D models appear in battle. Like in Colosseum/XD/X & Y, they have unique intro and defeated animations.
  • During the gameplay, the Hero fights a Lass, a Preschooler, and Hua

  • During battles you can check status changes by tapping your or your opponents' Pokemon on the bottom screen. Also, Pokemon Moves are now shown vertically, automatically show if a move is effective or not, and have an information tab to show info about moves
  • Hala is confirmed to be Hua's grandfather
  • Hala mentions that each island in the Alola Region has their own Guardian Pokemon, making up 4 guardians
  • Supposedly, the guardian of the starting island is named "Tapu Koku"
  • Popplio learns Disarming Voice at Level 8
  • Hua uses a Pichu in one of his battles, though I'm not sure if that's because the Male Hero chose Popplio as his starter

-2 New Gen 7 Pokemon were revealed during Gameplay

Yungoos is a big eater that is never satisfied. The majority of its long body is given over to its stomach, and its digestion is swift, so it’s always hungry. It has strong fangs, so it can crush and consume the hardest of objects.

Each Yungoos chooses its own particular route for searching out prey. It stalks along this route searching for food until it’s exhausted, at which point it drops and sleeps wherever it may be. It’s thought that these Pokémon decide their routes based on safety, so that there’s no risk in falling asleep at any time.

Yungoos is not a Pokémon that is native to the Alola region. It was brought to the region to help deal with the explosive population of a certain other Pokémon, and now Yungoos are commonly seen around the Alola region.

Some Yungoos have an Ability that no other Pokémon discovered has previously had. This Ability is known as Stakeout. With the Stakeout Ability, this Pokémon’s moves can deal twice the normal damage to any Pokémon that switch in or enter the field mid-battle.

Since this Pokémon is so common in the Alola region, it’s easy to catch one. But this Pokémon has a terrible temper when it’s hungry—and it demands a whopping amount of food.

Pikipek can strike 16 times a second with its beak. These strikes are powerful enough to not only drill through hard wood but even shatter stone. The noises made by their blows can signal others. Some of these signals have been identified as warning signals and greetings among allies. Pikipek Trainers have grown to recognize them as well.

These Pokémon drill holes in trees and store food in the holes. They also like small, glittering objects and will tuck them away in their food stores, too. It’s often said, "Something lost, something missed, check inside the Pikipek nest."

Pikipek will attack distant opponents by zipping seeds at them. These shots have enough strength to embed the seeds in tree trunks.

-Battle Royal is a free for all with 4 trainer in a where the first trainer who KOs an opponent's Pokemon wins

Quote

A New Battle Format: Battle Royal
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon feature the addition of a new battle format that has never been seen before: the Battle Royal! In the past, Pokémon battles have generally been battles of one Trainer against another. But in these Battle Royals, four players are divided in a four-way battle that pits each Trainer against each of the other three in a furious melee!

Everyone can feel the thrill of battle!
In a Battle Royal, four Trainers are jumbled in battle together, but the rules are simple.

Each of the four Trainers chooses three Pokémon and sends one Pokémon into battle at a time. The battle is over at the end of any turn when all of the Pokémon of one Trainer have fainted. The players are ranked, and a victor is declared based on the number of Pokémon each defeated and the number of Pokémon each has remaining in play.

While these rules are simple, they also allow players a new way to enjoy Pokémon battles—one where many new strategies may be born, as each player must try to predict who will attack whom, or weigh acting to save a player who’s in a pinch in order to aim for the number-one position!

UPDATE: The Official Sites have new information as well as a new trailer

  • MAGEARNA
  • CATEGORY    Artificial Pokémon
  • HEIGHT    3'03"
  • WEIGHT    177.5 lbs.
  • TYPE    Steel/Fairy
  • ABILITY    Soul-Heart

Magearna is a Mythical Pokémon that was created by a scientist of uncommon genius 500 years ago. Magearna has the power to perceive the emotions, thoughts, and feelings of other Pokémon. If a Pokémon is injured, Magearna will feel the other’s pain and suffering and will try as hard as it can to save that Pokémon.

Magearna’s real body is the spherical construction in its chest called the Soul-Heart, created by a scientist who gathered the life energy from Pokémon.

Magearna has the ability to transform itself into the appearance of a Poké Ball! It does so when it sleeps, and apparently also when it's sad.

Magearna’s Ability is the Soul-Heart Ability, a new Ability that no previous Pokémon has had. Soul-Heart has the effect of raising Magearna’s Sp. Atk by 1 each time another Pokémon in the area faints. This is a new Ability—one that can be put to good use in battle.

If you use the new QR Scanner function in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon to scan in the corresponding QR Code, you'll be able to obtain the Mythical Pokémon Magearna! Magearna will be a special ally that you can put to work on your behalf in the world of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.

Check back at Pokemon.com/SunMoon for details on where to find the QR Code to get Magearna!

Grubbin relies on its sturdy jaw as a weapon in battle and as a tool for burrowing through the earth. Grubbin loves electricity, which is why it can be found near power plants and substations. By wrapping tree branches in the sticky threads that it spews from its mouth, Grubbin can swing around like an actor on suspension wires!

Batle Royale sounds insane. If this appears frequently throughout the game, I'm expecting opponents to just gang up on you. Cool idea though.

However, I'm finding many of these new Pokemon really underwhelming. I feel like they're just fairly generic animals, though hopefully they have interesting evolutions.

Stake Out sounds like an awsome ability, doubt it'll get much use during the main game though due to foes rarely switching, but competitive players might get use out of it if anything good gets it.

Skill Link is waaaaaay too OP an ability for a poke you can catch on route 1. If that thing learns fury attack or something before level 12, then its going to absolutely wreck everything before the first three gyms. We know it spits seeds so you can even go ahead and give him coverage with bullet seed too. That will let it continue to carry it dominance even further.

I can easily see him getting nerfed by losing that ability when he evolved, or having no attk stats, but in the short term that little guy looks like a sweeper.

Radiant Sun Phase and Full Moon Phase look kind of like those glowy forms Reshiram and Zekrom had when they performed their ultimate attacks.  And didn't Xerneas have multiple "modes" for some reason?  Basically I assume they are simply special effects and nothing to get excited about.

You get Magearna via a QR Code? My god... maybe I was right! Maybe the multiple Mythical Pokémon releases are a sign that they're gonna retire the limited-time only garbage and make them chrono-proof/actually let us nickname them! Happy days! And then they delete the QR Code from reality after a month I bet

Also, Magearna's backstory really opens up a lot of thought. Given how it was made (and how such a process has never been portrayed positively between the Ultimate Weapon and Devon's efforts with Sea Mauville), it makes it seem like Magearna might've been Ye Olde Genesect (i.e. a weapon of mass destruction made by assholes). And I'm getting even more Transformers vibes with that whole spark Soul-Heart business.

GameXplain finished their E3 2016 Analysis

Personally, I think that the Rotom Pokedex is inside of Lillie's bag. I am curious about that 5 slot thing though...

That fifth slot is pretty interesting.  Since there's no extra slot in battles, could it be for HMs, perhaps?  Haha, we can hope.  I think Magearna is probably just going to be your typical nothing Mythical Pokemon, though, that's barely mentioned in-game but maybe nets you some fluff if you actually get one and take it somewhere.  The nature of specifically Mythical Pokemon is that they usually aren't involved in the story and are rarely conventionally available - we already know, I think, that Magearna is QR-exclusive anyway.  It also seems to be blatantly too big to fit in Lillie's bag.  I'm equally dubious about the idea that she's harbouring a Zygarde Core; it would be very interesting if all the unused Zygarde material was actually properly integrated into Sun/Moon, but I don't think I trust GameFreak enough to actually do that.

Meanwhile, I'm wondering when they're going to officially announce Iwanko and Nekkoala.  E3 came along and distracted everyone and it's like they just forgot Coro Coro revealed two new Pokemon we haven't heard a thing about since.  I don't think they're even on the Japanese official site.

They really do need to do something about the HMs requiring so many slots in your battle moves or party.  This would be a great game to work on it, since with so much water there's a good chance you'll end up needing Surf, Waterfall and Dive again, which makes up almost an entire HM slave.  Surf is a good battle move, but I don't find the other two particularly useful so they require a lot of running back and forth to Pokecenters to swap out exploration and battling crews.  This is further complicated in the case of the water moves in that there are so many pokes that can learn Surf - but a lot of them can't learn Dive and/or Waterfall!  I've seen several good ideas on fixing the problem, I just wish GF would do it already!
