Planet wisp? Is that stage good, I'd rather know before writing about that and it ends up not counting as today's question.

Hmm... It's part of the Intersteller Amusement Park, and the park itself is in space...

...Ah, screw it, a planet's a planet, so I'll go easy on you and let you talk about that one. tongue.png

Oh, this is an easy question. My favorite Eggman base is Eggmanla-

Dammit Crusher!

Okay then. No problem. I pick Flying Bat-

Shiiiiiiit.

Alright. You leave me no choice, Crusher. The base I pick for this is Pyramid Base from Sonic Adventure 2. I like it because it's so different from all the other bases. While most of the bases were something he built himself (or at least with the help of a bunch of robotic labor), this one he actually took a structure that was already made and created a base out of it. And with all the security he has in it - the quicksand, the hourglass activated doors, and that giant... robot.... flying... beetle... thing, it earns a place as one of my favorite Eggman bases.

Still not as good as Eggmanland or Flying Battery though.

My favorite Eggman base? Well I would mention it but I'm not allowed to so I'll just go with my second favorite Final Fortress. It's humongous and it's size alone puts the Egg Carrier to shame. Plus with all of the other fleets at it's disposal it's near invincible. Speaking of Final Fortress, was it even actually destroyed?

You know, with that, I just had an interesting thought...

Planet Wisp

tumblr_m47gkmnPCy1qgvvtno1_1280.jpg

"What the heck, that isn't an Eggman-" shush up and sit down 'cause I wasn't done yet, sheesh.

It's completely true that it isn't an Eggman base, but in both of it's appearances, it's in the process of being turned into one, in a way. While Eggman claimed to be converting it into a ride for his amusement park, the entire point of said park was to make it seem like he had turned over a new leaf, long enough for him to mind control everyone. By the time he did that and his robots were done building in Planet Wisp, it wouldn't really matter if it was a ride or not.

So, I personally assume what was actually being built was his ultimate base. After all, it'd make sense in a twisted sort of way--why not build his true Eggmanland on the world of the aliens he was going to use to take over? It's the kind of thing Eggman would do, really.

Plus, I mean, what's being built looks more like factories than a ride.

Wii_pla_act1_05.jpg

And that's my terrible fan theory of the day.

Day 8: Favorite Eggman Base:

I've actually got two favorites:

 360px-001_%28238%29.jpg

1) Robotropolis

Not sure if this counts, since this wasn't originally Robotnik's turf, but I always loved the tense atmosphere this place gave off. The ominous music, the dark, polluted sky, the barren, scrap-covered terrain, and SWAT-Bots and spy cameras everywhere meant you were one wrong move away from certain roboticization!

ImagesCAP7PPS2.jpg

2) Mad Gear Zone

As cool-looking as Metropolis Zone is, this base's darker color scheme and blood-pumping music gave me more of a "final level" vibe. The Badniks aren't nearly as annoying, thanks to the Homing Attack, and the Impending Wall of Doom remains one of my favorite moments in 4: Ep. I!

Though I still don't buy that Eggman designed the whole place just to rejuvenate Metal Sonic.

I'd probably have to go with Final Egg on this one, primarily because it is one the only ones I find particularly memorable and enjoyable. It's a really wonderfully built level from start to finish with two great songs associated with it. It's the perfect precursor to the Egg Viper boss battle at the end of Sonic's story.

Okay Day 8! And my choice is~~

SBZ.png

Secret Base Zone!

I love this place~! It starts off so cool, zip lining into Eggman's base. And the music for both acts are my top favorite Advance themes. It's fun trying to speedrun this place with my meager skills. And I like the boss here too. Fighting with Amy was always my favorite thing to do. Especially when I got a perfect against him with her. 8D

Day 8, favourite Eggman doohickey base thing

Sonic-riders-zg-01.jpg

In case you didn't know, I'm a big ZG fan. Probably one of the few, but goddamn this game is awesome. Anyway, so, our heroes discovered that the Babylon Garden is actually ancient aliens and Eggman is trying to control the... robots and... the garden and the lightless black and...

haven't played zg in forever

Anyway my favourite base is absolutely the Crimson Tower. Eggman was absolutely /high/ when he made that base, with roads going up and down and all around DANANA DANANANA

Fun racetrack, got some attractive colours, quite a great place to be in.

...

at least before it got rekt by the black hole

Well since eggmanland is out of the question (curse you crusher) I would probably have to go with the final egg from sonic adventure, its the only other base in the series that just really has that final feeling for me (since not many of them actually do take place near the end) plus it probably had some of the best level design and different kind of level gimmicks in the whole game and not to mention it has some very good music too.

Assuming Casino Night doesn't count as a base, I'll have to choose Launch Base. I love the unique scenery, I love the soundtrack (both in the Mega Drive and PC versions), I love the impact it has on the plot, I just love how cool the idea of it is. It's so colourful despite being a final stage Eggman base and it's just awesome.

I don't even think this has been mentioned yet (not gonna read through each post on Day 8 either) so...

KABLAMJAMDAN I LOVE YOU

Day 8: Favorite Eggman Base (Grounded)

This place.

Art_stg07_04.jpgArt_stg08_04.jpg

That's right; Rail Canyon/Bullet Station. Personally I find this desert base charming. First of all; it looks like it's situated in the GRAND FREAKING CANYON. Look at that sunset! Those rock formations! Those stupidly large cannons that can fire a roughly 3-feet tall anthropomorphic hedgehog and his pals through the canyon's crevices! And the rail system...oh yes the rail system. It's absolutely complex and massive. Yeah sure it's stupidly high but I just had fun grinding across the canyon landscape. Traversing through these levels was mighty fun for me back when I played this level and I still hold this base as being my personal favorite.

After some thought, while we don't see a whole lot of it (and what we see of the inside is kind of forgettable), I do really like his base in the OVA. Mostly because of the big neon outline of himself. It's a big glittering mass of buildings looking down over a dead city...even with no one to watch (so it seems), he's still compelled to make himself visible. Honestly I think a lot of the OVA's setting is really interesting and I think it's a shame that it's only in the OVA and no other work.

Runner ups would be Metropolis Zone, for having great music and nasty traps, and his pyramid base from SA2, partially because I love a good haunted level and partially because I love the audacity of him hollowing out an ancient tomb and plastering his face all over it.

ALRIGHT IT'S TIME FOR A COMEBACK

DAY 8: FAVORITE ODDLY-SPECIFIC VARIATION OF EGGMAN'S SWEET PAD

I love a good Eggman. Everybody loves a good Eggman. More than anything, though, people love a good Eggman base, which is why we're not discussing them. 8C

*ahem*

Since talking about the Egg Carrier and the Eggmusement Park is illegal because life itself still holds a grudge against me for being born, we're gonna take a different track with this one. We're still on land, but some of us are going... UNDA DA SEA

dbgwtd.jpg

THE AQUATIC BASE

EHEHEHE so yeah that one. Now, before I'm systematically murdred by at least thirty fellow Sonic nerds, this level does suck to play through. Pretty astoundingly bad. But that's not why I've brought it to the table today. Rather, it's for the ideas that such a base presents.

Sonic hates water, can't swim, sinks like a stone and can't run for crap underwater. What better place to build a base than the one place he'll have trouble getting to (magic bullcrap mirrors aside, of course)? Why not build the most hideously obtuse bubble puzzles, identical rooms, laser traps, etc. for your archenemy to inevitably trip through? And why not replace all the fist pumping music on your PDAs with Mario Kart 8's menu music?

Eggmanland may kill Sonic physically, but Aquatic Base kills Sonic spiritually, and that, my friend, is some kind of evil genius <3

Funny thing is, even though Aquatic Base wasn't even made by Robotnik, it still feels Eggmanny enough, and he still has White Acropolis as well, which is more than can be said for Mephileslie.

Day #8: What are your favourite ON-LAND Robotnik bases?

Well since Crusher said it counts...

250px-SRA_Pirates_Hideout.jpg

Pirates' Island. While I don't have all that much to say about this one, I love the atmosphere, and the music is great. Not to mention Captain Whisker and Johnny are a couple of great characters, and made for a great boss battle at the end of the stage. How can you go wrong with robot pirates? And how many times am I going to say "great?" I sound like Silver when he hits a ring capsule.

Since I'm restricted to land, I guess I'll go with...

Metroart1.pngChronMetro1.pngMetroart2.png

Metropolis (the Chronicles version, to be precise). Unlike most of Dr. Eggman's bases, you can actually see where everything is in relation to one another, which is something I like. The aesthetic also reminds me of Scrap Brain, but with better graphics and more detail. If this place had been a hub world in a 3d game, I bet it would have looked even more beautiful. Well, as beautiful as can be expected from a derelict industrial city, anyway.

For my favorite on-land non-Eggmanland Eggman base, I'm going with something a bit unorthodox:

nyz2uv.jpg

That's right, it's Meteo®tech from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity! Why this one? Well, aside from just digging the futuristic aesthetics of the Riders games in general, I just LOVE the idea of Eggman hiding in plain sight like this. Using his technical knowhow for a legitimate business venture while also using the revenue to support his world domination plans is actually pretty clever of the Doc and not even Sonic and friends knew that he was up to no good until the security bots started acting up. You also don't usually see Eggy introduced into a Sonic plot through this kind of scenario, so it was a neat change of pace.

Yea, the questions presented are a bit too specific for any real response honestly, and a lot of them are Eggman centric. I mean, if we truly are to write how passionate we are about Sonic, how can we if what we're being asked is so restrictive. I've just...gotten bored of this honestly, which is sad because I really want to be excited about presenting my love for the series.

Day 8: Favorite ground-based Eggman bases, eh?

Well I got 2:

- Scrap Brain from Sonic 1:  In all seriousness, I couldn't ever fathom why Eggman would call his first ever industrial base in the games 'Scrap Brain' if that's supposed to be the actual name. I guess it's because his machines are making sure to scrap the brains of any intruders who dare to infiltrate the facility?

But either way, I love Scrap Brain for how pretty grim the whole background looks on the outside. It shows machinery, power plants active and a red sky to indicate that this is serious business, and you are welcomed by floor grates that open up to make you fall to your death, shocking electricity balls, fire emitting from broken pipes, buzzsaws, it's a absolute death trap-filled factory! And you know that you gotta shut this whole place off.

Not the most flashy of his lairs if you ask me, but it was the very first one and you clearly get a sense of how much of a polluting jerk Eggman is with this base, especially in the 8-bit version where you can clearly see there's a black smog covering the air that's emitting from Scrap Brain.

-Final Egg from Sonic Adventure: Most people here already stated the many reasons on why Final Egg rocks so much, but I'll just add that I agree with how much of a grand finale it to Sonic's story, and a nice intermission stage for Amy and Gamma as well.

Right as you step inside, you''ll already be greeted by 2 familiar faces in capsules, Metal Sonic and one of the more typical-looking Sonic robots to serve more as weaponry in Sonic's images rather than a actual duplicate that can mirror his speed.

The general atmosphere of the whole area is just awesome as well when you do the first section, like giant conveyor belts with grinder traps, cylinders, the giant spacious room that for some odd reason you just can't normally fall all the way down to because it somehow counts you as falling into a bottomless pit, the mass-produced badnik rooms, it has it all.

And I love how Eggman actually takes the time to make poor plushie versions of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles pure for target practice, which is a real shame. I'd bet that if he sold those plushies for little kids he could make a good deal of cash, bwahahaha! Like imagine Eggman going all 'Oooh, I hate Sonic and his friends so much I'm going to make plushies out of them simply for the purpose of serving as target practice for my robots, or to strangle one when I try to fall asleep in my bed!'

Just overall all kinds of awesome.

Although wasn't Eggmanland in Unleashed also technically a ground-based fortress since he build it on a piece of land on the shattered Earth, or does it indeed constantly float?

Day 8 Challenge: Favorite On-Land Robotnik Bases
Challenges 7/30 Completed

SweetEggmanpose.png

Hmm... Interesting...

I will admit, Dr. Crusher. Day 8 question is one I didn't see coming and I'm actually extremely glad that you gave this day the tough challenge of not using Eggmanland. This should really try and help bring some more variety as we're forced to think of other unique bases.

500px-Metropolis_Zone_Archie.png

Metropolis Zone (Sonic The Hedgehog 2)

I really do enjoy this base quite a bit. The place has some great music that makes me want to tap my foot and do a little dance while playing through. I also enjoy the three main badniks inside this base because all three of them take their jobs seriously and really are out to get rid of Sonic. It's quite a big change for me since I'm using to breezing through a bunch of badniks in the beginning of Sonic 2, but once I hit this base that's when serious business team comes in and I start to really struggle a bit as Asteron's shoot their pointy spears at me in five different direction, Shellcracker's stay in their tight spots and quickly try and take me down with their spiked claw, and finally Slicer's throwing their sharp claws at me. Ugh... It doesn't help that this base also has lava inside that you have to watch out for. You can really tell Eggman really worked hard on this base to have his super badnik team present, the lava inside, and even how it takes three full acts to get through, which only shows that this is quite a big place with a lot of things going on inside to keep whatever Eggman plans moving.

pyramidcave-chaobox1b-full.jpg

Pyramid Cave (Sonic Adventure 2)

Well, Pyramid Cave was one of my favorite places to run through in Sonic Adventure 2 constantly. I really do like the whole Egyptian look the base has going for it, and Eggman face on the floor and even on the switches that you must use to proceed through the base. One thing I slightly like is how he has the base guarded with his E-1000 robots. Just mostly because they remind me of Gamma, but they aren't as strong as Gamma is. I do think it's a bit creepy that this base actually has ghosts inside of it just roaming around...

s3dz72.png

Panic Puppet Zone (Sonic 3D Blast)

I certainly have to bring up this base seeing how it's located on Flicky Island. This isn't a base that I would call one of the bests, but I bring it up mostly because of what is inside of it and what goes on with the first two acts of Sonic 3D Blast. While I find the base to look fine, I think the most interesting thing about it is how it has a giant Robotnik inside of it where you have to enter inside of it through the nose. That's disgusting and funny at the same time! I do like how this base has conveyor belts, turrets, and even trap doors. It's like it was really made with the thought of how to handle Sonic for awhile if Sonic ever stepped inside of the base. Also, it seems like in Act 1 of Panic Puppet Zone, Sonic has to free the Flickies that haven't been roboticized yet. While I don't recall seeing a giant machine that would roboticize the Flickies, I still think it's quite interesting that Robotnik had the birds spread out in containers.

Well, those were the three I decided to talk about. I hope all three are accepted answers for Day 8 question and came off as nice reads.

My suggestion regarding the restrictions would be to have the questions be more open-ended, but have an extra challenge. That is, the question would be "What are your favourite bad guy base?" but under that would be "Bonus Challenge: don't name a flying fortress or EggmanLand!" Problem is I dunno what kind of incentive there'd be to adhere to the rule beyond bragging rights. @_@ Of course I'd at least try to do them anyway for the fun of it, but yeah. Probably not a great idea.

Aside from that I like the questions so far. Only one that didn't thrill me was specifically focusing on Eggmobiles; a question about iconic items in general (the Eggmobile, Sonic's shoes, the Tornado, etc. etc.) might have had more to talk about but still be unique among stuff like this.

I once thought about the former idea, but I didn't think it would work out that well. Sorry about that...

And yeah, I suppose that would have been a better question in hindsight. Well hopefully I won't make as many fuck ups from now on.
