Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing

Doctor MK

Recommended Posts

Did you not read my scans of the Nintendo Power article? It was on the previous page. >.>

For those tl;dr people, new stuff included where

  • Game started out as just another SEGA racing game. Added the Mario Kart-esque stuff later on.
  • The roster will have more than 20 characters.
  • Ulala confirmed.
  • Richard Jaques is the composer and there will be about 80+ music tracks!
  • New tracks revealed are Final Fortress from Sonic Heroes, Tokyo-To from Jet Set Radio, and Curien's Mansion from The House of the Dead, with a total of more than 20 tracks in the final.
  • New Powerups revealed, including one that flips the screen 180 degrees. (?)
  • The creators want to add as many cameos and to stay as close to how the characters and homages were in their respective series.
  • Mission Mode confirmed.

Sonic Heroes is one of my least favorite Sonic games so I'm with the people wishing that they had chosen some better stages for Sonic tracks. I don't really care if reusing textures is easier. Sonic isn't just Heroes, it isn't just Adventure and whatever other single game you'd like to mention.

They should pick some pretty memorable locales from several of them. I don't see how Final Fortress of all fucking stages is a good representation of the series. There are so many better choices it's honestly sickening that they bothered to throw in a track based on that stage of all things.

Confusing Star is the one wich flips the screen a 180°

Don't forget theses ones:

  • 8 player online competitions
  • Battle Mode
  • Over 50 missions to do

There's gonna be loads of stuff to do & discover.

I'm glad there's gonna be real Sonical wi-fi racing and not like SR:ZG to just race a ghost.

I do. The textures I've seen for the Seaside Hill (actually I think its more like Ocean Palace) look pretty identical to the textures used in Heroes. I understand if I'm wrong because I lack knowledge in this area, I'd have thought the fact that those textures are similar and are already in 3D (as well as probably having the original code to those games freely available) would make things easier for them than using those 2D levels.

They're probably similar but I doubt they'd use outdated last gen textures, especially since Heroes were pretty lackluster even at its time of release. And ah, the scans, didn't see those D=

I really want this as a track somehow:

final_rush_image51.jpg

Obviously without the rails since you can't race on those.

I wouldn't mind it so much if Sumo only chose ONE stage from Sonic Heroes to be represented. Two was bad enough. But three?! I wouldn't mind an Eggman Stage... but do we have to have Final Fortress? Eggmanland would've been awesome, and it would've killed both the "Eggman stage" and "Casino stage" themes with one stone. We could've had a sci-fi/sky/space-based stage based on the Ark, and Angel Island also would've been an awesome addition.

Now, I expected Sonic to have probably around four stages in the first place. That was basically a given. However, I was hoping they'd be... well, you know... FROM DIFFERENT GAMES! The fact that the game is called "Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing" doesn't mean that they had to include Sonic stages SOLELY based on Sonic Heroes.

I guess Final Fortress could be made well if they got really creative with it. The Casino Park stage doesn't really look too much like Casino Park. They could add lightning hazards or collapsing sections of track. I agree that stage wasn't worthy of being a final level. It was only suspenseful because of the many ways you could fall off the edge.

I maintain Heroes is a popular choice because it was multi-plat like this game is, and sold relatively well. But then again, they could be holding our favorite Sonic stage back as a surprise. The game looks good anyways. They really took Seaside Hill and made it theirs. Maybe we'll get a Buzzbomber or something on the Final Fortress track?

Am I the only one that doesn't mind? "Hill Zone" and "Casino" stages are my favorite types of Sonic stages, though I was never a huge fan of Final Fortress. I feel like Eggmanland would have been the best stage choice for a Robotnik stage, though I'm not fucking disgusted by the decision to make all Heroes stages, I liked Sonic Heroes, personally. And even if it wasn't the best game, it had good art.

Yeah but the Heroes stages aren't exactly anything special, neither are they fan favourites so I'm completely confused as why they chose three to represent Sonic. All I can do is hope they've confused Final Fortress with something else.

As I said, if there's a Final Fortress section you switch from lane to lane dodging lasers will totally make this stage to me. I also could have my ideal to make the stage like a roller coaster, but doubt they will.

It's based off of a Sonic game, I'm sure they will.

I wish they would've done more levels not based on Heroes, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw another level though, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were based on Heroes too. Then again Green Hill levels, Casnio levels, and Eggman Fortress levels are rather staple cliches, at least in older games and Heroes had them all. Though, like someone said on the last page, I think we should've had an ARK Final Rush-like level especially since there were tons of them in Adventure 2 and Shadow that all looked pretty much identical like: Final Rush, Final Chase, Crazy Gadget, Cosmic Wall, Space Gadget, The ARK, and I think Lost Impact had some outside sections that looked like this and maybe another level too.

I wonder if they will go the CTR Route and a have a Story mode. I doubt it but still it would be interesting.

If they did Who would the villain be? It can't be Eggman himself due to proabaly being to obvious on probably one of the base characters (the ones you start of with). But I am probably getting ahead of myself.

After the way they handled it in both Riders games? Fuck no. There's a time and place for actual story, sure, but a light-hearted karting game certaintly ain't it. Even neglecting that, I really doubt it's possible to weave that many characters into a decent storyline - not just on a quality standpoint, but a copyright one as well. Surely an arcade-style Grand Prix and the mission mode is more than enough to run with?

I want Ice Cap Zone or Lava Reef Zone. I thought they were awesome levels from my favorite Sonic game >_>.

And SA2 levels: Either Green Forest, White Jungle or Metal Harbor. Love those levels. :)

What was Final Fortress from again?Name seems familiar but I couldnt find it on Sonic Retro. I think its from Heroes, right?

Oh and about using textures from SH: http://info.sonicretro.org/Green_Hill

Thats what the Sonic levels should be like.

I actually like the Riders stories... I just hate having to switch characters all the time.

It DEFINITELY wouldn't work for this game, though. Just leave out a Story Mode.

What if they did like M&SatWOG and gives us unplayable Boss characters?

With that said, it could be anyone else who hasn't appeared as a playable character.

Is there any info on how the battle mode works? I really hope it's like pre-Mario Kart Wii battle mode. My favorite thing about Mario Kart games was battle mode until Mario Kart Wii came along and made it simultaneously suck and blow. Damn Mario Kart Wii had an awful, terrible, ruined battle made. Anyway, I would spend a crazy amount of time on this game if it has an online battle mode similar to pre-Mario Kart Wii battle modes. If the battle mode ends up like MKWii then they might as well have not had it in the first place. :(

I actually enjoyed the battle mode on MK Wii :P well it wasnt as great as others, but after some tiring races nothing is better than a good funky stadium run, pwning the opposition and doing some tricks on the way.

I reseve my judgemnt on that list but I am slightly leaning towards BS as it includes Captain Falcon (unless he is a sega character please enlighten me)and Banjo ( From banjo kazooie (i think... if there is a sega char named banjo again Please enlightn me))...and freaking SPACE MICHAEL. And the fact that there are TOO many characters than previously heard (About over 30 when it was supposed to be over 20)but then again that is not a bad thing.
