    Sonic the Rabbit!? Original Character Concept Artwork Unearthed

    The original Sonic, before the Hedgehog, has somehow been discovered.

    What's this!? It appears that original concept art of Sonic the Hedgehog has been newly discovered. But surprisingly, it shows SEGA's hero not as a blue hedgehog, but as a funky grey rabbit instead. Check out the image below:

    Sonic-the-Rabbit.jpeg

    The above comes from Solly, webmaster of The Dream Avenue, who notes that Sonic Team originally planned to have Sonic as a rabbit character before moving on to the hedgehog we all know and love today. The rabbit art is supposedly from 1990, before work on the game was finalised.

    What do you think of this? Let us know in the comments section below.

    Probably ONE of the original ideas, along with other characters like that wolf.

    Either way, it does indeed look like Sonic half-spawned out of this one - blue, the connected eyes, skinny legs and arms. o_O;

    But for some reason, I get the strong feeling that I've seen this before.. Weird.

    I don't think you've seen if before, but I know what you mean. He takes on a classic cartoon character look too, look at his eyes and part of his shape. Now check out a old 1940's Mickey Mouse, similar old cartoon looks. Old school :amuse_2003: Eat my shorts Felix The Cat *Coughs*

    It does look something outta the '40s, doesn't it? :toung_2003:

    It's hard to tell whether this design was from the US or Japanese SEGA department... It would be interesting to see what special abilities (other than the designated speed) Sonic the Rabbit would have had.

    I say it frickin' sucks :mad_2003: Besides, if they want to make a Mickey Mouse they should sue Disney. Oh well, I like most of the Looney Tunes :toung_2003:

    Now we have Cream & Cheese to take on that look, she's a rabbit with the Chao who has the bow-tie. :blink1_2003:

    OMG, that so doesn't suit the cool image that sonic should have. Thank god they decided to change the look.

    Yes... well.... of course! I mean... yeah..... meh, too Mickey Mouse-ish for me, but I think the mechanics of it would make a sweet game (maybe had they gave the ear throwing things ability to Cream...)

    Looks a bit like Felix, but Felix is a lot cuter than rabbit man here. =P
