  • SEGA Teases Large Scale 'Sonic X Angry Birds' Brand Partnership

    Sonic and Red look likely to be long-term pals.

    SEGA has hinted at an official Sonic and Angry Birds brand crossover with new key art that features Sonic and Red dashing through Green Hill Zone together.

    Alongside the new image, which was posted on the official Sonic social media channels today, SEGA posted the following not-so-cryptic text:

    Most intriguing. Of course, some level of game-related crossover is a given, with rumours flying around that Angry Birds characters will soon appear in Sonic Forces Mobile, but ever since SEGA acquired Rovio last year there have been hints at a broader synergy strategy from SEGA Sammy corporate heads. The real question is whether this collaboration will travel to merchandise and licensing opportunities too.

    In any case, it seems that Sonic X Angry Birds is very much a thing, and we're getting ever closer to seeing what the fruits of that will be. Who's excited?

    Somewhat related, but is anyone else worried about how much mobile stuff Sega is putting out with Sonic lately? I hope mobile titles don't end up being more profitable than console entries as that could be bad for the future.

    My excitement for this crossover is quite limited since I never played Angry Birds. Thus, I wouldn't need it.

    Sega completely bought out Rovio for 77 million last year. They can do whatever they want now. It would be cool to see a Angry Birds style Sonic game.

    Not excited at all!!...
    SONIC FORCES : SPEED BATTLE has the most wonderful roster of the series, it doesn't nedd Angry Birds characters but even more Sonic characters!!...
    They should let guests appear in SONIC DASH but not in SPEED BATTLE!!...

    There you go.

    I won't say I'll be playing this, but for the most part, I kept asking myself: Was buying Rovio necessary just for this? A simple partnership would be enough, wouldn't it?

    I hope SEGA achieves its goals with this, because it definitely looks very appealing for kids fan of both franchises.
