I know we'll (unfortunately) have to wait 7 months due to the delay, but I very well have a right to be frustrated about this. This game was one of the main reasons I had bought a Wii U, with the first delay from November to February, I can understand. They wanted the game to be at the best quality possible. This delay is outright unnecessary. Just when we're weeks away from release date, we have to wait another 7 months to play it for literally NO reason, and that's why I'm mad about this. Ports are fine and dandy, but delaying the finished version to match the release of the ports in September is a poor business decision, especially with all the heavy hitters later this year.

I actually think it's pretty stupid yet smart business-wise at the same time. On one hand it's dumb because Ubi is kicking everyone in the balls (even the Wii U's sales) and releasing it with other big titles later on in the year, and on the other hand it's good because PS360 are getting ports, and releasing them at the same time could possibly maximize sales as well. I dunno.

I'll be brutally honest: I was going to buy a Wii U when Rayman Legends came out. Now I may not buy one at all, because this game and New Super Mario Bros Wii U are the only killers apps as far as I'm concerned. It'd take a pretty big exclusive to win me back.

 

So, yeah. Dick move towards Nintendo, Ubisoft. Even removing the exclusivity and just letting Wii U owners play the game half a year before other system owners would be a good sell for Nintendo.

 

(The Retro Studios title will win me over if it's a Metroid, or any of the other awesome series that've fallen into the gutter in the last decade)

Tornado already explained this was never an issue for timed exclusives before, using Resident Evil 4 as an example.

Ubi can take their "exclusive demo" and shove it up their collective vortex emblems. It doesn't make up for anything, and saying that I "should chill and be happy with what I have" is frankly completely besides any point. I should totally suck up and get a demo with three more levels and limited uses which will run the magic dry. I should totally sit and play what is essentially a cocktease and use up what novelty there is behind the game so my increased disinterest of finding the game nothing but an expansion pack sequel can be used for what it's worth. I should totally be happy that I have the opportunity to play ten minutes of something I'm bound to forget about the following morning because no other platform will get it, and it's all peaches and gravy because it's free.

This demo is zero. Zilch. Nothing. And to be honest I'm okay with it, because really it's getting hard to even bother caring about the game anymore because the publishers themselves don't seem to either, and that's really the worst thing someone can do to any game.

Here's hoping they can make me care about it come September.

The "luster wouldn't be there" is a funny point to make when the Wii U owners are here sitting with a demo they've probably played out. The luster will probably have worn out for them too, and it's definitely going to show on the Wii U sales numbers when there's no launch hype behind the game anymore. Rayman 3D managed to chart on 3DS even months after it had released because there was nothing on the console, that alone pushes sales more than people like to imagine because you have an install base that's starved for new games when the console is still a "new deal".

That and Nintendo exclusives, by virtue, do surprisingly well more than people like to give credit for. Look at Sonic Colors; one platform, two million. Sonic Generations followed with fantastic word of mouth because of Colors, launched on two platforms, and only did one million.

Rayman Legends, the formerly Wii U exclusive, was delayed yesterday so that the game could be a multiconsole release. One of the game's developers is not happy about the decision.

If you're pissed, imagine how we feel. Think on the situation. We've been making overtime with this game practically since May preparing E3, and then almost a demo per month (gamescon, Wii U presentation, shops, eShop, etc.) and at the same time trying to actually finish the game. We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn't finish on time but we gave it our all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we're being told it's not going to be released? I couldn't believe it.

Wow, talk about startling developments. I'm really starting to dislike the heads of the gaming industry. What happened to it being about the passion for games? Money? Ugh.

Ubisoft is officially on the "slippery slope". Once a game company does consecutively buttholish things, it just keeps going down from there. We need big change in this industry.

I know the Ubisoft comments from the press release and Facebook post have been posted, but have these extra comments Ubisoft told Digital Spy on Thursday been posted? I just saw them over at CVG today.

Ubisoft has issued a statement as to why the Wii U release of Rayman Legends has been delayed along with the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

An Ubisoft representative told Digital Spy that the Wii U version is not having any issues with development that would cause the game to be delayed.

"There are no issues with the game development. All of the information was in the press release, the only reason for the delay is to release on multiple platforms," Ubisoft public relations specialist Sarah Irvin said.

However, Ubisoft has released games on one or multiple platforms ahead of others in the past, so an Xbox 360 and PS3 release would not necessarily mean a delay for the Wii U version.

In response, Irvin added: "We usually release all of our platforms simultaneously (aside from PC). We've made special exception sometimes in the past but it's definitely just on a case by case basis and not our standard practice.

"In this case, Ubisoft recently decided they wanted to release the game on multiple platforms so the decision was made to launch them all at the same time rather than separately.

"I know it's not an elaborate, 'convincing' answer, but it's the simple truth."

I know that, and I guess I credit them for their honesty. I'm just shocked that they admitted it.

Truth is better than lies. 

 

But that doesn't change the magnitude of the stupidity for delaying a finished game. They could have had a more immediate return on investment with the Wii U version starting a few days ago, with the prospect of additional sales later on when the multiplat version was finished.
