Is there any possible way to download the ambassador games still? My little brother would have been eligible to download them but never knew about it while they were available :/

No matter how much nicer the XL is I just can't see spending all that money to play games you can already play on your 3DS. Do what I plan on doing. Use your 3DS for now and when it gets rundown and the price of the XL drops a bit then get one.

If he connected to the eShop 'at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern/8:59 p.m. Pacific time on Aug 11, 2011', he was automatically registered as an Ambassador and should have gotten a notification of same. (Quoting my SpotPass info message regarding the program; not sure what the time would be where you are.) If you're not sure, go into the shop and to the section that lists purchased games, and see if they are there to download. If he was registered, then the games were essentially 'automatically purchased' and placed in the same place as games he actually paid for for updating/redownloading, only marked for 'download'.

Ahhh, I'm not sure if he did connect to the e-shop or not :/ If he didn't I'm guessing that there's no other way...

It should be in the list of games you've downloaded, aswell as an option to re-download them, if he there isn't, there's no way for him to download them apart from buying the ones that are on the e-shop

So, random tangent, anyone else wish they'd add an expensive "completion" option to Puzzle Swap on Streetpass Plaza? Like, pay 50 Coins to unlock any piece of your choosing to get that last one, or, once you've got all the blue ones and don't live in a hugely 3DS-populated area, you can slowly start collecting the pink ones by yourself instead of having to drum your fingers until the next Nintendo Mii pays you a visit for a special event (usually bringing a new puzzle with them anyway).

Figured I'd copy/paste my 3DS XL thoughts from my blog here, since I'd just be retyping the same thoughts:

I know! As a SEGA fan I should be ashamed, buying a Nintendo product. In fact, the 3DS XL is the first piece of Nintendo hardware that I bought new. My NES? Garage sale find in 2003. My GBA SP? Gamestop sale item bought a few years ago. My Wii? Same deal. So it was quite a strage experience plopping down money for a brand new Nintendo gaming device. But I don't regret it! I've actually been a closeted handheld Nintendo fin since they debuted the Game Boy Advance SP in 2003. The clam shell design? Lovely! The backlit screen? Awesome. I especially liked that the SP was backwards compatible with every Game Boy game ever made.

I've sat out on the DS, mainly because I was just getting into the GBA library at the time. But when the 3DS was announced my ears perked up. Like the GBA SP, the 3DS looked to be a great option for those who sat out on the previous generation of Nintendo handhelds. Instead of buying a DS, I could just get a 3DS and cover both bases. Coupled with a GBA SP, a gamer could enjoy the entire Nintendo portable library with only two devices. Unforuntaly, I didn't have the money for a 3DS for quite a while, and once I did, the 3DS XL was announced. So I waited, and finally got a hold of one on the release date this past Sunday. Being a SEGA fan, I had to pick up SEGA titles first. So Crush 3D and Sonic Generations are the first games in my 3DS library, followed by Elite Beat Agents and Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition.

How do I like the 3DS XL? I love it! I gotta give Nintendo credit, they may not make great home consoles anymore (sorry Wii U fans, I just am not excited for that) but they do a damn fine job with portables. The Street Pass function and the pedometer, complete with coins? Awesome idea that plays up on the portable function of the device. Instead of pretending to be a handheld home console (*cough* PSP*cough*), the 3DS is a handheld that knows its a handheld and is proud to be a handheld. Is it as good as the SEGA Nomad? Not quite, but it's a very cool device and I can't wait to spend more time playing it.

That's why I hate the pink puzzle pieces, nobody in my town other then a few have 3DS's, so I haven't finished any puzzle that has them. I wish Nintendo would realize not everybody has a 3DS and just let's you complete a pink piece, like "10 coins for a pink puzzle" or something like that. At this rate it's going to take me years to finish half of the puzzles I have right now.

Some person who I pass every morning on the way to work has every single piece. So if I pass them daily, in time I'll get all the puzzle pieces. I just hope they keep up their routine!

Yeah, I have two puzzles completed except for the pink pieces, and about 3/4 of the NSMB2 done - except for ALL of the pink pieces. I spend ten coins a day, and am lucky if I get a puzzle piece I don't already have. At least, though, the game is smart enough to recognize that the pink pieces aren't randomly available - i.e. I only get pieces for the NSMB2, not for Kirby or Mario Tennis, which are still incomplete but only have pinks available. I like the concept of paying a premium for unique or specific pieces, and pinks, or they could just let me StreetSpotPass my friends when we're both online at once. Since release day, I have gotten one (1) - ONE!- StreetPass in my hometown, and on the rare occasions I do manage to tag anyone, they have 'No new pieces!'. Today I spent a couple of hours prowling around a huge mall in the state capital that includes a Gamestop and a number of shoppers - net result: no tags. The only real luck I had with StreetPass was when I was a Disney World for a week (79 tags in 5 days!), but that's a bit too far and too pricey for regular visits.

I got a whole bunch of pink pieces at Gamescom on Sunday. Still didn't get all of the ones I needed.

Don't have a 3DS yet and I've been wondering for a while.. What do these puzzles actually do??

They're there only to look pretty, show off the 3D capabilities, advertise Nintendo games, and make the player feel all warm inside when they finish it

While talking about Streetpass, what happens when you do the last dungeon in Streetpass Quest?

Also, anyone wanting more coins, here's a little tactic, kind of low but having a coin cap sucks:

When you have reached your 1000 steps/10 coin limit, stop walking, set the date a day forward, continue walking, rack up, the coins again, rinse and repeat till your bored or you get to 300, spend them all, set it back to the proper date, wait till the next day, go again.

You save your Mii and get a crown. If you have collected all hats, I believe you get Streetpass Quest 2, but if not you can redo the whole thing to get them.

And for those who want to compare the Japanese:

Japanese one is ugly. I like the other two, but the PAL one is a bit better.

Eh, I think there's a bit too much going on in the PAL version. I like the US one better.

Hrm, thought someone would've mentioned this already.

Rare has no plans for the 3DS, but it's possible

http://mynintendonew...t-its-possible/

This is post-2010 restructure M$/Kinect-influenced Rare we're talking about, who still hasen't shown or presumably hasen't even done squat, aside of creating Wii Sports ripoffs for Kinect as well as send out every blue moon more of the same vague PR BS to people who still consider them relevant to the gaming community.

Not to mention Rare didn't even/weren't able to develop many games for Nintendo's previous handheld consoles (all of this is prior to their 2010 restructure BTW): DKC trilogy ports aside, they developed only four games for the GBA; and developed only two games total for the DS-the more recent one was released back in 2008.

So it's very likely that we aren't getting a Rare-developed game on the 3DS in general, let alone a Rare-developed game on the 3DS anytime soon.

tl;dr version: Another empty PR promise/statement from M$/Kinect-influenced Rare that more-or-less states the obvious. Move along people, there's nothing to see here. :/

Not to mention they said that a couple years back as well. Let it be one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" types of things folks.

Rare has the opportunity to develop for portable Nintendo software because Microsoft doesn't have one. Microsoft are essentially letting them be licensed for work on other titles that aren't competitive platforms. There's nothing that says they can't work with Nintendo in a limited capacity and the fact that it happened on DS means it's very possible that it'll happen again since nothing has changed since then.

That is also a rather old post to dig back up.

Oh what, Layton 5 is out that soon? I still need to play 4, though I guess that... HAS been out for almost a year now. Doh.

I sill need to play them all apart from the first one. It set such a good impression and then I never bothered with the rest. I should be ashamed of myself...
