Pokemon Sun/Moon PLUS ULTRA (Alola Region Games)

So the new Ghost Pokemon is an entire species that looked at another race of creature, saw that it got special treatment, and so they're trying to emulate it in an effort to be accepted by all.

Um.

Mimicry isn't anything new in the Pokmon series. Besides the obvious Ditto and other various transforming Pokemon, the biggest case of this is Crawdaunt having elements of Sharpedo as a defensive adaptation. This is to ward off predators, thinking its something bigger on the food chain. Another one might be Wobbuffet as I mentioned before as we don't know if the main body is actually the main body or if its tail is the one in charge and using the body as a defensive mechanism.

But those are examples of it being an adaptation. Pikaboo just really wanted to be loved like Banette so it emulated Pikachu. Will it succeed? Only time will tell but I love it a lot already.

If we're talking about Pokemon with allusions to other Pokemon, there's Mantine, who literally has a Remoraid stuck to it. Then there's obviously Slowbro.

Edit: Oh, and there's Accelgor and Escavalier.

...I'm ok with this.

I for one hail our new Ghost Pikachu Overlords.

I could see an epic fail moment in the anime series when Ash accidentally confuses Mimikkyu for his Pikachu esp. when he could tell his from a crowd in Clash of Ages movie.

It's ability is called disguise, right? Maybe instead of mimicking every single Pokemon, it just has one costume for each type (Pikachu for electric, Vulpix for fire, etc.).

New Japanese Trailer

  • Eevee is #123 in one of the Island Pokedexes and, according to the Pokeball Icons, still only has 8 evolutions...
  • Pokemon Amie is back
  • Tauros, Lapras, and Sharpedo are seen as ridable Pokemon
  • There's a brief part during the trading segment where you can see Mimichu, who was revealed earlier today, being traded for a Panchum
  • Some kind of pose and energy thing...not sure what it is

Ahhhh you can groom them? And is that a unique surf animation for whatever Pokemon you have surf with?

Could that Ginyu Force pose thing be part of Neo-Amie as a sort of bonus for using the feature? But yeah, not surprised something like Amie is back - gotta have some way of getting Sylveon. I hope Tauros and Stoutland riding are more controllable and not just context-sensitive setpieces (also, let us be able to ride our own ones!).

Also I love that little ghost guy, like pls don't suck, I might use you, anyone jealous of the overrated rat is a friend to me.

Well Pokemon Amie is back, it being the only way Sylveon can be a thing so there's that.

That animation dance thing is funnily weird though, wonder what it's for

I know I can't help but keep bringing this up and I'm sure I've might had said in this thread before but I'm am so glad that Sharpedo surfing is back.

Sharpedo is one of my favorite pokemon ever, I do say that a lot but I digress. Sharpedo surfing will still forever be my favorite thing introduced in ORAS and I'm so happy its back. I hope it stays being that fast Surf option too which seems to be the case, especially since this is a big water environment.

But this also confirms that past Pokemon will be catchable unlike how Gen 5 started out. This is a good thing honestly because there's some pokemon I'd love to catch again like the aforementioned Sharpedo. I hope I can get my boys Honchkrow and Chandelure too!

It looks like the dancing ties into the super moves that happen at the end.  Ash does a lot of stupid cool poses along with his Greninja in the anime too.

Maybe the Pokemon who don't transform like Greninja get a generic super move instead?

More Pokemon having unique models for surfing and stuff is always cool.  Sharpedo's a goddamn speed demon in ORAS and made traversing the water less frustrating and tedious.

Synchro confirmed... to be not very interesting.  There's no way they can model loads of weird Pokefusions, so I'm guessing that the in-game version is just the power-up we saw.  I like the idea that it's related to Poké-Amie; it could be a kind of concentration, or specialisation, of the overpowered Amie gameplay benefits you got for maximum affection.  (Though I think affection should be combined with Pokemon happiness as they're kind of the same thing, but that's a separate issue.)  Poké Amie expansion to include some form of grooming makes a lot of sense, though.  I just... hope it's not as rote?  Like how, in the past couple of games, as soon as you've acquired a new Pokemon you have to stop playing the real game to grind Super Training and Amie minigames for hours.

The riding Pokemon I am completely sure are just set-pieces like in X/Y, though.  ...I'm okay with this if it replaces the need to learn Surf.  Heck, it'd even solve the logical problem of why you can Surf on fainted Pokemon or ones that are too small to ride on!

Hey, that kid is visiting his family in Japan.

Kanto confirmed.

Nice trailer. I wish the Western ones were more like these.

So trainers moving to the groove before unleashing power...
Where have I seen that before?

maxresdefault.jpg

Oh.

The trailer gave a good overview of things in the game, all while giving off a sense of community, which the series is known for. I liked it. Also, good to know Eevee is catchable in-game [even though I have every single Eeveelution and about a dozen more Eevee].

I'm happy Amie seems to be becoming a more permanent feature and is getting expended on instead of the 1 game toss away gimmicks of the past. Especially players like me really appreciate as many other things to do as possible, as I don't have huge interest in battling.

This artwork, while not surprisingly, quite wonderfully show bats along with the moon all on this ornate dress!  (http://risdmuseum.org/art_design/objects/4419_moon_the_courtesan_egawa_of_the_marueiya_tsuki_egawa_marueiya_nai

Anything could have influenced the creation of Lunala and while it may not be this artwork, it's possible so it is exciting to have found it by chance.

Huh, I never saw Lunala had any Asian origins (especially since it's Hawaii)...I simply thought Lunala was just moon=crescent&stars/celestial stuff and moon=night=bat. But that's an interesting take.

New Trailer

English

Japanese

berry.png

  • Bounsweet
  • Category: Fruit Pokémon
  • Type: Grass
  • Height: 1′00″
  • Weight: 7.1 lbs.
  • Abilities: Leaf Guard/Oblivious
Quote

Because it exudes a delicious smell from its entire body, Bounsweet is popular with Pokémon and people of the Alola region. Bounsweet’s scent has a calming effect on humans, so many people let them live inside their homes as a sort of air freshener. Unfortunately, it’s sometimes swallowed whole by Pokémon drawn to its aroma.

When running away from other Pokémon, Bounsweet flees danger by skipping along the ground. Since its bouncy movements don’t convey to others that it’s actually in desperate flight, no one ever comes to its aid.

When attacked by enemies, it drives them off by rotating the calyx on its head. The downside is how dizzy it gets afterward!

bear.pngportrait02.pngportrait03.png

  • Bewear
  • Category: Strong Arm Pokémon
  • Type: Normal/Fighting
  • Height: 6’11”
  • Weight: 297.6 lbs.
  • Ability: Fluffy/Klutz
Quote

When Bewear is acting in a friendly fashion, just swinging its arms around, you must never dare to approach it carelessly. It is acknowledged to be a dangerous Pokémon, even within the Alola region. You may see warning signs posted near places it resides.

When Bewear grows fond of its Trainer, it may show that feeling in a fond embrace—but the force of that hug is tremendous! Trainers must teach these Pokémon how to restrain their strength when showing affection.

Bewear may have the Fluffy Ability, a new Ability that no Pokémon has ever possessed before. The Fluffy Ability halves the damage taken from attacks that make direct contact, but in return it also doubles the damage taken from Fire-type moves.

Some wild Bewear use amazing martial-arts moves. Apparently the Pokémon learn these moves by watching Black Belts practicing when they go out to train in the woods.

Bewear’s arms and legs are strong and highly developed. Its powerful spine enables it to lift objects weighing a ton or more. It loves to give crushing bear hugs—a tight hug from this Pokémon’s arms will split anything at all in two!

flower.png

  • Comfey
  • Category: Posy Picker Pokémon
  • Type: Fairy
  • Height: 0′4″
  • Weight: 0.7 lbs.
  • Abilities: Flower Veil/Triage
Quote

Comfey picks flowers and always carries them around. It makes a ring of blossoms and spreads oil from its body on it, which changes the flowers so they emit a soothing fragrance. It has a habit of giving these flower rings to those it’s fond of. The aroma can soothe both itself and its allies. Comfey also helps with the treatment of people and Pokémon at Pokémon Centers and hospitals, thanks to its aroma.

When attacked by other Pokémon, it throws its flowers at them to create an opening, and then it either flees or strikes back.

Comfey can have the new Triage Ability, an Ability that no other Pokémon has had before. With the Triage Ability, this Pokémon’s restorative moves gain the highest priority in battle.

horse.png

  • Mudsdale
  • Category: Draft Horse Pokémon
  • Type: Ground
  • Height: 8′02″
  • Weight: 2028.3 lbs.
  • Abilities: Own Tempo/Stamina
Quote

Mudsdale is known for its powerful body as well as its emotional fortitude, which keeps it from being agitated by anything. It never cries out, no matter what kind of trouble it’s in, and it defeats its opponents with a single powerful blow. Its legs are coated in protective mud, and the weight of this coating increases the force of its kicks. One kick, and a car is a pile of scrap!

Mudsdale’s running speed is not too swift, but it has excellent power and stamina. It can carry on for three days and three nights despite dragging loads of over 10 tons!

When Mudsdale gallops in earnest, the power of each hoof-clop can dig out huge holes, even in asphalt. Mudsdale is forbidden to run on some of Alola’s public roads.

Mudsdale can have the new Stamina Ability, an Ability that no other Pokémon has had before. With the Stamina Ability, this Pokémon’s Defense goes up by 1 when it’s hit by an attack.

ghost.pngportrait02.pngportrait03.png

  • Mimikyu
  • Category: Disguise Pokémon
  • Type: Ghost/Fairy
  • Height: 0’08”
  • Weight: 1.5 lbs.
  • Ability: Disguise
Quote

Mimikyu lives its life completely covered by its cloth and is always hidden. People believe that anybody who sees its true form beneath the cloth will be stricken with a mysterious illness. People in the Alola region are convinced that you must never try to peek beneath its covering. Mimikyu’s health fails when it’s bathed in the rays of the sun, so it prefers to stick to dark places. It’s rumored that the reason it covers itself with a cloth is to avoid sunlight.

The rising popularity of Pikachu-styled merchandise around 20 years ago is the reason that Mimikyu makes itself look like Pikachu. In fact, this Pokémon is dreadfully lonely, and it thought it would be able to make friends with humans if only it looked like Pikachu.

Mimikyu has the Disguise Ability, a new Ability that no Pokémon has ever before possessed. The Disguise Ability allows it to escape damage from an enemy’s attack just one time, and then its appearance changes.

Mimikyu’s Pikachu-like appearance is due to its Disguise Ability. In order to resemble Pikachu, this Pokémon makes patterns that look like eyes and a mouth appear on a regular scrap of cloth.

bug.png

  • Wimpod
  • Category: Turn Tail Pokémon
  • Type: Bug/Water
  • Height: 1′08″
  • Weight: 26.5 lbs.
  • Ability: Wimp Out
Quote

Wimpod have a cowardly nature and are wary of noises and sudden movements. If you approach them in a group, they’ll immediately run off. When Wimpod feel threatened, they spit out a poisonous liquid. The stench of this toxic fluid signals others that danger is near. Despite their extreme cowardice, their curiosity leads Wimpod to approach people or Pokémon that are standing still.

Wimpod eat and store anything that they find fallen on the ground. They also scavenge any garbage that’s been dropped in the sea, so they’re highly valued as cleaners. They sometimes carry pearls or other valuable items, so humans or Pokémon like Murkrow may target them.

Wimpod has the new Wimp Out Ability, an Ability that no other Pokémon has had before. With the Wimp Out Ability, if this Pokémon’s HP drops below half in battle, it will run away or swap out for another Pokémon.
