Wii U discussion and upcoming news

Well we all knew it wasn't going to be cancelled but it still annoys me that we have to wait so long for the game to come out, not to mention the same bloody time as all these other cool Wii U games I want!

I swear to God Ubisoft are the dumbest developer around.

Its almost like they KNOW by delaying the Wii U version, its going to sell worse and then they'll have an excuse NOT to port games to the Wii U in the future. :P

You'd think it would save them more money to just not make the Wii U version.

Well, it's probably the closest thing the Wii U will get to GTA, so it might sell well with people who want a game like that.

Maybe they got a contract with Nintendo or something that they have to make Wii U versions of the games, I dunno. :P They certainly aren't being smart with the Wii U releases.

That'll be useful to practise my maths, I can't find my DS version. I'm betting NSMB will also be on there.

I was wondering how the DS VC would work on Wii U if you would have to hold the GamePad vertically, but of course that's not a problem with games where you held your DS horizontally to begin with.  Bring on Hotel Dusk: Room 215.

Sonic Rush and it's subsequent successors/sequels would be a complete disaster on Wii U VC, that's for sure.

If it's an arrangement where the TV uses one screen and the GamePad uses another, then yeah, that'd be terrible for a lot of DS games where the screens are joined; ditto any kind of screen-swapping function on the GamePad.  But similarly, I'd have thought that on-TV play would be impossible for anything touch-controlled; either you don't have the touch screen on your GamePad and thus are effectively playing blind, or you have the touch screen on both but never look at the TV.  Touch screen on the GamePad and the top screen on the TV?  The touch screen was treated as the primary screen in a lot of DS games and so you would have something boring like a map taking up TV space.  Holding the GamePad sideways is not an option, obviously.  Reprogram every single DS game that uses touch mechanics to use D-pad controls instead, perhaps?  I don't know if that would even be possible for some of them.  Put both screens together vertically on the horizontal GamePad?  I don't know if the GamePad screen is smaller than the two screens of a DS stacked together, but it sure would look it with all the black space on either side.  (You never really notice how small a screen is until you see it on a bigger one.)  Will they customise every single game to play according to what works best for the system?  Maybe they really are only planning a handful of DS titles for the system, namely the ones that are actually easily mechanically compatible?  I tried looking up how many DS games were played sideways, and it sounds like there are maybe five, with Brain Age and Hotel Dusk the only ones I'd ever heard of.

As a horribly biased 3DS owner who will never stop bringing up the GBA VC issue, obviously I'm going to say they should be putting a DS Virtual Console on the 3DS instead / as well.  It wouldn't even be a Virtual Console, it'd literally just be digital releases of games that are physically compatible with the system already but which are harder to get your hands on now.  I don't imagine it would be actually harder than doing so for Wii U, or less profitable.

DS games on Wii U...wait wat?

On one hand it's pretty cool and from I can see with Brain Training that it works well when the Gamepad is held vertically. This means other games that play this way should be fine too like Rhythm Paradise etc.

But on the other hand, how will horizontally played games work? Sonic Rush would obviously be a nightmare to play and Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks nigh impossible. Looks like only a select few could be played horizontal, ones that don't use the lower screen as often or only use it for pressing buttons and stuff. We'll have to see once more DS games come out.

You'd think it would save them more money to just not make the Wii U version.

Exactly. If you're gonna delay the game for so long and for no apparent reason, why release it on Wii U anyway? =I

Baseball and Boxing coming to Wii Sports Club June 27, Retail version July 11

Wii SPORTS CLUB BASEBALL AND BOXING COMING TO NINTENDO eSHOP FOR Wii U ON 27th JUNE

Packaged version of Wii Sports Club – complete with Baseball, Boxing, Tennis, Bowling and Golf – to release in stores on 11th July

Whether or not you are a veteran of the original Wii Sports series on Wii, step up to the batting plate or into the ring on 27th June when both Baseball and Boxing release on Nintendo eShop for Wii U, rounding off the Wii Sports Club range already comprising Tennis, Bowling and Golf. While for those who want to get their hands on the full roster of five sports on one disc, Wii Sports Club will be launching at retail as a packaged version on 11th July, completing the competitive return to action for the series with HD graphics, new and improved controls, as well as online play and community features supported by Miiverse.

Wii Sports Club kicked off in November 2013 with the Nintendo eShop releases of both Bowling and Tennis, followed by Golf the following month. With the introduction of an online multiplayer versus system, users with broadband Internet access can now compete in a regional club ranking system and represent their local area, with the added ability of Miiverse integration allowing handwritten messages to be posted during gameplay, whether to celebrate a victory or admit defeat!

In Baseball, the use of the Wii Remote Plus controller enables novice hitters and expert sluggers alike greater control and precision when going for that all-important home run. In the field, pitching is performed by holding the GamePad upright, with the action taking place in first-person view. Different types of pitch can be selected to attempt to bamboozle the batsman, but it’s down to you to adjust the power and aim of your throw. If the opponent does manage to return your pitch, try to keep the centre of the GamePad aimed at the ball, as a catching opportunity may even come your way…

With Boxing, bobbing and weaving your way to victory is now more fun and challenging than ever before, with players able to use one Wii Remote Plus controller in each hand to allow for more precise offensive and defensive manoeuvres. Before you enter the ring and represent your regional club online however, don’t forget to hone your technique by taking on Skill Shaper challenges such as Speed Bag, which requires players to keep an eye on an overhead display and pull off the right punches in the order instructed, or Pro Puncher, where players must use speed and accuracy to smash targets that appear in front of them.

To mark the launch of Baseball and Boxing on Nintendo eShop from 27th June, Wii U owners who download Wii Sports Club will get a 48-hour free trial enabling them to play the two sports, as well as Bowling, Tennis and Golf. The trial is open to everyone, even to people who sampled a free trial of Wii Sports Club before. Once the trial period ends, players can purchase a Day Pass on Nintendo eShop for £1.79* to play all available sports for a 24-hour period, or can purchase permanent access to both Boxing and Baseball for £8.99.

Two very different sports lie in store for fans on 27th June when both Baseball and Boxing release on Nintendo eShop for Wii U. For the full package of five sports on one disc, Baseball, Boxing, Tennis, Bowling and Golf, Wii Sports Club will also release at retail as a packaged game on 11th July.

Dang, one of my E3 predictions already wrong. Well, gives them more time to focus on more interesting things, I guess.

I hope the retail price isn't too high.

Brain Training was a lot of fun for a quick play back in the day, releasing it free is a lovely idea, though admittedly I got tired of it after a while since the activities do become boring after the 50th play etc.  The second game was also a bit of a disappointment, as many of my fave games from the first were changed to... basically make them more difficult or try and trick/throw you off more and I was just like "were these changed for the sake of being changed, are they really as valuable as the simple mental maths exercises etc in the first game?")

But yeah, it's certainly a product that fits into Nintendo's vision of having apps that individual members of the family can just casually play on the gamepad anywhere in the room, any time of day, for a short while each day.

As cool as this as, I'll have to echo some people on how certain DS games are going to work. Something like the Ace Attorney series would be fine, but how would you play, say, Sonic Rush?

There might be multiple display modes though, maybe one display mode has both DS screens on one screen.

Also, we don't even have 20 GBA games yet we already got our first DS game. Nintendo please, slow down, I can't catch up.

Ok, so I finaly found a place that had a full shakedown on the whole Fatal Frame push, including of course the main game

Fatal Frame Wii U  /  21 Apr 2014
Fatal Frame Sequel Heading to the Wii U

1.7k
A Fatal Frame movie, comic and novel are also planned.

By Lucy O'BrienA new installment in the Japanese survival horror series Fatal Frame - aka Project Zero if you live in Europe or simply Zero if you live in Japan - is heading to the Wii U.

Famitsu (via a translation by Gematsu) has reported that Tecmo Koei and Nintendo are working together to bring the game to the console, but a release date and title have yet to be detailed. Alongside the project, Temco Koei has plans to expand the Fatal Frame universe through a series of "new multimedia" ventures, including a live action film helmed by Bilocation director Mari Asato, a novel from The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service's  Eiji Otsuka, and a comic from Kindaichi Case Files writer Shin Kibayashi (better known by his pen name, Tadashi Agi.)

Mio and Mayu Amakura from Project Zero 2: Wii Edition.

The Wii U and its GamePad are a great fit considering Fatal Frame's protagonists rely on cameras to avoid things that go bump in the night, but the series' track record offers no certainty that we'll see the next game distributed outside Japan. We'll update you with more news as it comes.

Capcom announces lots of Virtual Console releases for North America and Europe, many of them Mega Man related:

http://www.gonintendo.com/s/230243-capcom-announces-15-games-for-the-virtual-console

Seriously, classic Mega Man, Mega Man X, Mega Man Zero, Mega Man Battle Network... all on the Wii U! You'd think Mega Man was appearing in Smash Bros, or something! ...oh wait :P

The worst part is that I missed the Megaman X $2 sale so I never picked it up. $7.99 per a title is a little bit too much for me. :(

Wow, that's awesome, I was hoping we'd see some Mega Man games popup. Once I get a Wii U I may pick a few of them up and actually COMPLETE them for a change.

Man, I might just have to buy some of those to support them. Seems like capcom is trying to bring megaman back into relevance again.

Or just more of their classics in general.

Hurrah, Europe's actually going to get the Mega May games.  Eventually.

Breath Of Fire, though, that takes me back.  (...To the GBA.)  It has a sort of quaint atmosphere that I really like in a classic RPG.

That's a lot of Megaman games! =O They even have Megaman 7 there, pretty sure that never appeared on the Wii's VC.

Capcom is finally doing something good it seems!
