Alrighty then let's-

*reads newest question*

135987852327.jpg

A-alright..gulp..I'll try. LET'S DO THIS.

Question #23: What are your top FOUR zone themes for each of your top five/ten/three/etc games?

1) Sonic Heroes

Final Fortress: The elecro-synth works well with the atmosphere of the level. You know things are down to wire now, and you need to get the job done.

Hang Castle/Mystic Mansion: These tracks pretty much embodies the Haunted Mansion vibes nigh-perfectly; chill yet eerie then that heavy guitar kicks in letting you know this is one chilling ride.

Rail Canyon: Not much to say about this one; I've already gushed about how much I LOVE Rail Canyon and the music attests to that.

Ocean Palace: This track is an absolute beauty. It gives you the message of tropical, seaside grandeur with a big ol' slap to the face.

2) Sonic Generations

Crisis City (Modern): Using the same basis of the original but adding a faster tempo to it makes this one of my favorites for sure. In my opinion it works well with the Modern Sonic style of fast gameplay.

Planet Wisp (Classic): Dubbed 'Planet Wisp - Bad Future to some, it takes the serene-sounding original and adds some hard synth and electro-banging sounds to make it quite the track.

Seaside Hill (Modern): It's essentially both Seaside Hill AND Ocean Palace in one track, what's not to love about that? Plus the added emphasis on the guitar...squeeee~

Chemical Plant (Modern): Sure it's slower-paced then it's Classic counterpart, but I feel it works.

3) Sonic Rush Adventure

Blizzard Peaks: That guitar is a highlight, plus that bass...oh man this one of my all time favorite ice-themed tracks just because it doesn't necessarily follow much of theme of the geography around it per-se, but heightens the action.

Pirates' Island: For a traditional 'seventh' Zone, its music doesn't scream urgency. But I think that's its strength; it has its own atmosphere to compliment the level.

Haunted Ship: This track reminds of Sonic Rush in a way. Plus it totally fit the location of your trek.

Sky Babylon: Not much to say on this one; but for some reason it gives me an other-worldly vibe every time I listen to it.

4) Sonic Lost World (I just HAD to mention this game, there are some good tracks here)

Dragon Dance: Say what you want about the game (and a lot has been said) but there ARE a few shining tracks here that are just too good. This is one of them.

Sea Bottom Segue: Planet Wisp meets Aquarium Park. Hands down one of the most captivating level themes I ever heard in a Sonic game.

Windy Hill (Zone 1 Theme): This is the theme you ALWAYS hear, and for an opening level, I'd say it's quite the memorable track.

Honeycomb Highway: It's not secret you're gonna hear similarities to Skyscraper Scamper - Day in this track, and for good reason.

5) Sonic Adventure 2

Cosmic Wall: My bonafide favorite track in the game. It carries a catchy beat that doesn't disappoint.

Pyramid Cave: Much more subdued use of the guitar, while carving out its own thing with a nice 'ambiance'.

Pumpkin Hill: Not really into Knuckles' level raps, but this one is my favorite. Plus it goes well with this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8HUVntzrq4

Cannon's Core: Couldn't really decide between the three versions, but what I will say all three makes a great final level even better.

Whew...

Well... crap. I don't have a purely defined ranking of games aside from numero uno, so this list will be in no particular order.

scd-bginfo-detailsimg9full.jpg

  • Collision Chaos Present (JP version): Makes my head bob nonstop to its sheer catchiness, and I seriously want to travel to a disco and get this playing somehow.
  • Tidal Tempest Present (US version): The sheer definition of 90's music combined with Sonic- the female singers, water effects, everything about it is just glorious.
  • Stardust Speedway Present (US version): This track is just booming with atmosphere, and I love the subtle use of the guitar.
  • (Technically cheating): Special Stage theme (US version): Something entirely different, and it's one of the most unique Sonic songs I've ever heard.
  • #1 favorite: Quartz Quadrant Present (JP version): That epic piano solo is like the greatest thing ever, and it later evolves into something wonderfully beautiful.

Sonic_Adventure_OST_cover_art.jpg

  • Emerald Coast (Azure Blue World): One of the best songs for any opening level, that does an absolutely amazing job as a perfect fit for the stage.
  • Windy Hill: The Air: The perfect remix of Green Grove Zone.
  • Casinopolis: The Dreamy Stage/ Sewer song(Tie): One is an incredibly laid back piece of music that suits the gambling Casino theme like a glove, while the other kicks it up a notch for a grimy journey down the sewers.
  • Red Mountain: A Symbol of Thrill: One of the finest examples of Jazz in a Sonic game, period.
  • #1 favorite:Final Egg: Mechanical Resonance: So wonderfully evil-yet-groovy sounding, and it always pumps me up for the final fight.

showposter.jpg?v=4ff81222

  • Neo Green Hill Zone Act 1: It doesn't try to go for being a straight up remix of Green Hill Zone, which I appreciate. Very simplistic sounding in terms of instrumentation (obviously), but its melody is worth a listen.
  • Secret Base act 1: I love how this song perfectly conveys energetic Jazz, despite being an early GBA title.
  • Casino Paradise Act 1: PURE CUTENESS! It makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside! :)
  • Ice Mountain Act 1: Perfectly conveys the mood of the level, and the ICY instrumentation adds to its charm.
  • Angel Island Act 2: I would love to hear a full on proper remix of this, it makes me feel insanely melancholy for some reason...

Planetarypieces.jpg

  • Windmill Isle Day: Backyard, energetic feel good jazz in a nutshell.
  • Tornado Defense Act 1: Somehow, it manages to feel perfectly laid back, yet bombastic at the same time. It really soothes my emotions and makes me feel happy.
  • Savannah Citadel Night: It really pulls of the mood of exploring an ancient African-like location to a tee.
  • Cool Edge Day: BEST ICE LEVEL SONG EVAH! 'dat guitar, nuff' said.
  • Jungle Joyride Night: Very sorrowful, while the orchestra sounding instrumentation lends a hand to it being all the more atmospheric.

Sonic-Generations-OST-PS3-and-Xbox-360.j

  • Casino Night Modern: The Jazz band rendition speaks for itself, it's the perfect way to remix this iconic zone.
  • Speed Highway Classic: Takes the original and goes more for techno, making it even better as a result.
  • City Escape Modern: Tony Harnell and Ted Poley's singing here, combined with Jun Senoue doing what he does best makes this incredibly soulfull.
  • Rooftop Run Modern: The Piano/Violin solo is magnificent, and makes the song sound more audible when playing the stage.
  • Tropical Resort Modern: Take the Original, make it sound like Sonic is playing it on the Electric Guitar as fast as he can= insanely amazing track on steroids.

Day 23: Can I Do Math This Late  My Top Four Themes for My Top... Let's Make It Three Games. It's Been a Long Day

Game #3: Sonic Unleashed

242px-Planetarypieces.jpg

Song 3-4: Rooftop Run Night

Funky, and yet it makes me feel like a big, blue, fuzzy James Bond.

Song 3-3: Arid Sands Night

This feels a bit exotic, and it makes me want to get up and dance! Dat sax...

Song 3-2 :Rooftop Run Day

Happy, energetic, and rockin'! Just what I expect from a standard Sonic level!

Song 3-1: Eggmanland Day/Night

Blood-pumping and ominous: The perfect combo for a final level theme!

Game #2: Sonic Heroes

275px-Heroes_ost_20th.jpg

Song 2-4: Seaside Hill

A relaxing tropical song for a level that can also be described with those words. (I'm tirrrred...)

Song 2-3: Bingo Highway

Surprisingly tense for a casino level, yet it fits perfectly! (Mostly because of those bottomless pit-covered pinball tables)

Song 2-2: Final Fortress

Dark, menacing, and it tells you that you've reached the end of your journey! (Just in case you missed the title on the loading screen)

Song 2-1: Egg Fleet

Aggressive guitar, rapid drums, and some techno wub-what's-it's while you dodge parking lot-sized missles and blast through entire ships?! WHOOO!

Game #1: Sonic 2

Sonic2_title.png

Song 1-4: Casino Night

Very smooth and jazzy, as one might expect from a Vegas-themed level.

Song 1-3: Wing Fortress

This track feels very majestic and heroic, just like I do while playing the level! (Until I fall off three seconds later)

Song 1-2: Chemical Plant

Uh... running low on adjectives here... Upbeat? It sounds nice when I'm going through the tubey-things. There.

Song 1-1: Emerald Hill

Just like it does in every other aspect, I feel that Emerald Hill's theme trumps Green Hill's! This song just sounds so energetic and optimistic, as if it's saying, "You and your buddy are in for the adventure of your lives!"

You're a monster, Crusher. A MONSTER, I SAY.

Day 23: WHAT IS THIS? WHAT IS THIS? WHAT IS MY LIFE?! AAAAAAAAAAAAA aka A Question on Par With "Which of Your Children Do You Want to Live?"

I was gonna do the top three games instead, but I was having a surprising amount of fun thinkin' of this, so I extended it to five!...To be honest I had never really thought about what my top [whatever] Sonics are, so this post was actually kind of surprising, even to me.

(Note while I'm put the games in order from fifth to first, the actual tracks are in no particular order.)

5. Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Angel Island: First level theme in a Sonic game I had ever heard. Both Act 1 and 2 are great tracks. Act 1 in particular has this "runnin' through a forest" feel that's super cool!

Hydrocity: I especially like Act 1, actually. They're both good though, even with the horrible memories of this stage kicking younger-me's butt. Now it's one of my fav water levels. Funny how things work out, eh?

Sky Sanctuary: One of the best tracks in the series. Got some great remixes in Generations. 'nuff said.

Launch Base: Go! Go! Go! Go-go! I love this zone and love it's music. If a new Sonic game had a final level that sampled those "gos", I'd probably cry.

Honourable mentions go to Mushroom Hill, Lava Reef, and the Death Egg.

4. Sonic Colours

Tropical Resort: My personal favourite "first level theme", honestly.

Starlight Carnival: Oddly, I feel like this track would fit well for a modern take on a Star Light (Sonic 1) kind of level, actually. Runnin' through a city that never sleeps during the night...but yeah, it's pretty darn cool and fits the strange combination of armada & parade Eggman had going on there.

Planet Wisp: That piano, tho'. All variations of this track raise my spirits. It's oddly fitting for a place that's being slowly turned into an Eggman factory/base; while it's a mostly uplifting track, the bits that fit the factory theme remind you even in the grassy areas that this place isn't going to be happy for long.

Terminal VelocityAct 1 fits "running down an elevator at supersonic speed" very well. I like Act 2 as a level and it's take on the theme a lot. It's one of the few times where instead of a hopeless boss fight, you have a hopeless level. I'd love to see that kind of "storytelling through gameplay" more often, in this series and others.

Honourable mentions go to Aquarium Park and Asteroid Coaster.

3. Sonic Adventure 2

Escape from the CityI mean, come on.

Rumbling Hwy (Mission Street): This track really does pump you up to go destroy some governmental robots. That's right Tails, stick it to the man or whatever.

A Ghost Pumpkin's Soup: Along with every one of the Knuckles raps. Rouge's stages have some really cool music too, in my opinion. They're very unique for the series, and that's always something that catches my eyes/ears/whatever.

Deep Inside Of (aka Cannon's Core Ver. 3, which plays during Sonic's section): This track is special to me for a lot of reasons. For one, it hypes me up to go save the dang world already, and that's cool. It's also a pretty cool track in general, I feel. But aside from that? Sonic Adventure 2 was the first game in the series I played all the way through, making this the first "last level" I had ever gone through, and Sonic's section in particular being the last challenge before the final boss(es). Keep rockin' on.

Honourable mentions go to Cosmic Wall, I'm a Spy

2. Sonic Lost World

Sea Bottom Segue. Who doesn't love this track? It's so calming while still being fast-paced and, of course, is enjoyable to listen to. It's basically the perfect music for the grinding levels, due to how frustrating they can be--mostly when trying to get Red Rings, mind you.

Desert Ruins 1: Or as I named it myself, Sand in Sneakers. It's seriously one of my favourite desert level tracks in all of gaming.

Honeycomb Highway: It's one of my favourite levels in the game, and part of it is that music. I really wish there were more mach speed-centered levels in the game, because it probably would've meant more awesome tunes like this. Ah well, I like the OST as it is, so there's that.

Sky Road 1: Or as I named it myself, The Realm in the Sky. It makes me think of Spyro music and that makes me grin.

Special mentions to the final boss music and the "Believe in Myself" remix in Hidden World Zone 2. Dunno if they'd count towards this, tho'.

1. Sonic Adventure

Windy Valley (Windy Hill in particular): These tracks are just so pleasant. Then there's the music that plays inside the tornado which is pretty awesome. Sometimes I think this level should've ended up in Generations for awesome remixes alone...

Ice Cap: I think I prefer the music for this stage than Sonic 3's, honestly. It's very different from the usual Sonic music actually, not exactly fast-paced or anything, but I like it a lot. The...admittedly creepy music in the cave is neat too.

Speed Highway: UP DOWN AND ALL THAT STUFF

Red Mountain: Hell. Yes. Probably my favourite level tracks in the game, actually. Red Hot Skull, the theme for when you're inside the mountain and all the lava is everywhere, is awesome.

Honourable mentions to literally every other track.

Whew, that was fun!~

Okay, top four level tracks for top games! I'm going to limit it down to three games (Well, four if you count a tie) for simplicity. Otherwise, it's a bit of a brain crunch for me. XD On to the list!

#3. Sonic Unleashed/Sonic Adventure 2

Rooftop Run (Day)

This theme is just so energized that it gets you rarin' to blast through the streets of Spagonia and wreck some Eggman tech.

City Escape

The classic vocal level theme. This song is so catchy, that I can't help but keep no less than five different versions of it on my person at all times. It's just so awesome and carefree that it perfectly represents Sonic as a character and starts the game off just right.

Savannah Citadel (Day)

I really dig the drumbeat and rhythm of this one. Really fits Mazuri's African motif.

Pumpkin Hill

You just can't beat Knux's delightfully cheesy rap songs. I chose this one in particular because I really like the instrumental of it combined with the whole spooky theme. It's perfect background noise for the world's nerdiest Halloween party. XD

Dragon Road (Night)

This song has a calming, yet still quite fierce tune that comes out beautifully against Chu-Nan's ancient surroundings. A pity the battle theme has to interrupt it. tongue.png

Green Forest

I love how energetic this one is. It really piles on the pressure that "THE WHOLE ISLAND IS GONNA BLOW, SO MOVE IT!!!!!"

Skyscraper Scamper (Day)

This has gotta be the most frantic, crazy city theme in the entire series. It perfectly fits the topsy-turvy level that it plays on and just makes you want to boost like crazy through it.

Metal Harbor

The guitar in this track is just great. It creates a fittingly metal, yet extremely catchy tune that makes a perfect backdrop for Sonic's escape from Prison Island.

#2. Sonic Generations (360/PS3)

Chemical Plant Modern

This takes the classic track and makes it something, well, COMPLETELY BARDARSH. I just LOVE the sound of the "Duh-nuh-nuhs" in this version of the song. It's just perfect for such a super chaotic remake of a classic level.

Seaside Hill Modern

The amped up guitar for this version gives it a really fresh feel while still retaining the catchiness it had in Sonic Heroes. Throwing in Ocean Palace's theme also not only adds to the freshness, but gives you twice the song for the price of one.

Rooftop Run Classic

The remixed beat gives it a catchy, dance-happy new edge while retaining what made the original song really great.

City Escape Modern

With new vocals and instrumentation, this spin on one of my favorite Sonic tracks injects enough new energy to make me rock twice as hard to it. (No joke: This is the ONE level that I had pumping at FULL volume when I first played it) LOVE the added nod to "It Doesn't Matter," too. It's the ultimate SA2 nostalgia fuel!

1. Sonic & the Black Knight

Great Megalith

This track has a real epicness to it that really makes you feel that you're on this giant adventure and the kingdom is counting on your victory. I love how the beat just continues to ramp up as well.

Faraway Avalon

This one perfectly combines an AWESOME guitar track with a really ancient, adventurous beat that just propels you forward faster and faster.

Shrouded Forest

Here's one that's perfectly at home in an adventure or fantasy movie! It's fast, catchy, and, like my other picks, just plain adventurous.

Misty Lake

Another SatBK pick, another adventurous track, and one of my absolute favorite first level themes! It has a catchy tune containing some similarities to parts of some of the game's superb collection of vocal tracks and just gets you ready and rarin' to go the second that it starts playing.

Do you know how hard this is for me?  DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW DIFFICULT THIS IS GOING TO BE?

[ Day 23 : Top Four Zone Music For Top Five Sonic Games ]

None of these are in any particular order.

#5. Sonic Colors (Wii)

  1. Asteroid Coaster - Hard rock awesomeness.  This is the kind of music that I think every Sonic game should have at least one track like.  It really encapsulates the EXTREEEEEEEEEME edge of Sonic.  Of course, variety is the spice of life, so naturally, next on the list is...
  2. Planet Wisp - It's amazing how something so calming can also be insane to play.  That slap bass is intense and stands well as a song on its own.  It gives a great deal of speed, while also complimenting the lush greens and beautiful blue sky of Planet Wisp.
  3. Aquarium Park - Sounds like a synthy pop song, but I love it.  It's the perfect tempo for a water-themed level and like Planet Wisp, it's very calming, but also quite fast-paced.
  4. Starlight Carnival - MY GOD THOSE DRUMS.  MY GOD THAT BASS.  MY GOD THAT SYNTHESIZER.  MY GOD THAT EVERYTHING.  It's a really intense track.  It really gets you excited for all the bright colors and surreal atmosphere of the level.

#4. Sonic Generations (Console/PC)

  1. Sky Sanctuary - An extremely beautiful rendition of the Genesis classic.  Genesis-style synthesizers that contribute instead of being exploited like in the Sonic 4's soundtrack.  Amazing slap bass.  and really upbeat tempo.
  2. Chemical Plant - A delightful crazy rendition of Sonic 2's Chemical Plant.  It's slightly retooled in the modern version, but it still has the same general feel.  The guitar and bass remind me a lot of SA1.
  3. Seaside Hill - I didn't find Sonic Heroes' Seaside Hill to be that great.  I mean, it's a nice little tune, don't get me wrong, but this turned it from nice to AWESOME.  The guitar is a lot more meaty and gives off a more thrilling and adventurous vibe than the previous.  Also, the panning and mixing for the Ocean Palace portion is expertly done.
  4. Rooftop Run - Unpopular opinion I know, but I'm not big on the daytime music for Unleashed.  I mean, it's not bad, it's just a tad bland for my liking.  It just doesn't mesh very well with me.  But Generations' version of Rooftop Run is OUTSTANDING.  Much more powerful-sounding and really brings out both the whimsy and free spirit of running across rooftops to the max.  Fantastic.

#3 Sonic Adventure

  1. Emerald Coast - I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS TRACK.  The guitar, the sitar, the bass, the drums.  It's so perfect.  Both relaxing and energetic, it's literally the best introductory music for any game I've ever played.  I can't even tell you how awesome it is.  Not to mention super nostalgic.  Everything is just perfect.
  2. Final Egg - I primarily like the second part of this level, but they're both great.  They both give off this amazing feel of technology and the upcoming climatic boss battle.  The instrumentation is absolutely perfect.  The chorus and flanger effects are perfectly implemented.  If you can't tell, this is one of my favorite soundtracks, so I'm going to be using the word "perfectly" a lot.
  3. Windy Valley - From the calm, smooth melody in the first third of the level, to the frenzied pulsations while in the tornado, to the jovial music in the third act of the stage, each piece perfectly orchestrates the mood and is just a delight to listen to each and every time.
  4. Twinkle Park - The bumper cars had a very delightful remix of the intro cutscene from Sonic 3D Blast, and that was just the single most perfect choice of music I can think of.  It really set the stage, and I love the synths in it.  Just yum.  From there, you get to Pleasure Castle.  Suggestive name aside, it's a really fun-sounding tune that makes you want to be there, and Twinkle Park is quite the stage to behold!  Full of beautiful scenery and colorful lights and rides.  Best of all, cute couples get in free!  What really makes this stage stand out, though, is the house of mirrors, full of deadly traps and false reflections.  This was the perfect Amy stage, as it required careful plotting as opposed to the running and hiding that was prevalent for most of her game.  It's only fitting that it should have an amazing tune to go along with it!  Very spooky and contemplative.  So surreal and scary.  You'd almost forget you were playing a Sonic game.

#2 Sonic 3 & Knuckles

  1. Lava Reef Zone - Yeeeeeeeeees!  I love this tune.  It sort of reminds me of "Everything Counts" by Depeche Mode.  Really great jingle.  The only thing that bothers me is how short it is before it reaches the loop point.  That's okay, because that short loop is worth playing over and over again.   Act 2 also has a brilliant score.
  2. Sky Sanctuary - Like I said in the Generations version, this is a great track.  Very fitting for a final theme.  You really get the sense of preparing for someting big to go down,  Plus, everything is perfectly chosen and orchestrated.  Just wonderful.
  3. Death Egg Zone - Like Final Egg, this is the perfect base music.  It's impossible to explain, but you really get the vibes of "Robotnik's close and he wants you dead" from it.  It's sort of spooky, maybe a little ominous, but still upbeat and adventurous.
  4. Flying Battery - All the different melodies and countermelodies in this song are crazy!  But I love them!  Super intense, This could easily have been "final zone" music, but they rightfully put it very early on in the game, almost as if to tease you for what's to come.

#1. Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)

  1. Starlight Zone - Beautiful bell-like lead, beautiful bass.  This tune is just beautiful, not to mention cute.  Probably the most nostalgic tune from the game, as well.  I just really love it.  It's so serene.
  2. Scrap Brain - Another really good base theme.  It's haunting and spooky.  This is it.  The final showdown.  You can tell by the music.  There's not a doubt in your mind that Robotnik's waiting with his deadliest machine in the next act!  It's like you can feel the urgency and the travesty in the music.  Sonic did harm to your friends and now you're going to get back at him.  It's just perfect.
  3. Labyrinth Zone - A lively upbeat tune... possibly so as to offset the frustration of the most annoying water level in the history of the series.  I swear.  It's delightfully... clangy?  I really like it.  It's super danceable and jovial.  It's a great fun track  to listen to when you're not constantly struggling for an air bubble.
  4. Green Hill Zone - Like Emerald Coast, this is seriously one of the best introductory tracks ever.  It sets up the intensity of the game quite well but not so much that it doesn't feel... final?  I don't know.  It does an amazing job establishing the game while emphasizing that it is the first level.  An excellent track to start off an excellent game, which is an excellent game to start off an excellent franchise.

Oh,  this is going to take me foreveeeeer!

Curse you Crusheeeeeerrrrrrrrr!

Okay, now that I've got that out of my system, let's get down to business!

#5: Sonic the Hedgehog 2

4) Metropolis Zone: Ah Metropolis Zone. You may have given me some rather frustrating experiences, but your music is very, very awesome. It's just so damn fitting for the level.

3) Aquatic Ruins Zone: What can I say? Another very fitting tune for the level. It really sounds like it belongs in a level filled with half-submerged ruins.

2) Mystic Cave Zone: Is it just me, or does this sound a little on the creepy side? Either way, I love it.

1) Chemical Plant: Of course. You were all expecting someone to say it. Well, allow me to be that someone, because Chemical Plant is one of the best songs the series has to offer. It's highly catchy and one of the reasons why I enjoy Chemical Plant as a level so much. (Plus, it got a kick-ass remix in Generations)

#4: Sonic and the Black Knight

4) Crystal Cave: What an awesome rock tune for an awesome game.

3) Deep Woods: Let me put it to you this way - when a song can sound calm and energetic at the same time, you know you've got something good.

2) The Cauldron: Again, very awesome song and it gives you sort of that epic 'we're nearing the end of the game' feel.

1) Knight's Passage: Let's lay down the situation here - The big bad you were going after? Merely an illusion brought upon the true villain of the land. Said villain uses her powers to transform the castle? What do you do? You get the hell out of there. The song used in this level gives off a huge 'shit just got real' vibe that I just can't help but love.

#3: Sonic 3 & Knuckles

4) Ice Cap Zone: Again, this is to be expected. But it's just such a good song!

3) Lava Reef Zone (specifically Act 2) Wow. Just wow. What a lovely tune.

2) Hydrocity Zone: Oh Hydrocity. Not only are you my favorite 2D level in the series, but you have freaking awesome music.

1) Flying Battery Zone: This song. This freaking song. I mentioned in the last question that flying fortress levels have kickass music, and this is no exception. Damn I love Flying Battery.

#2: Sonic Generations

Yes, I know most of these are remixes. But this game is on my list of top five Sonic games so I'm including it's music. Fight me bitches. Fight me.

4) Chemical Plant: I told you this level had a kickass remix in Generations and I wasn't lying. Especially Modern Chemical Plant. Modern Chemical Plant is badass.

3) City Escape: Sing it with me, people; Follow me, set me free! Trust me and we will escape from the city!

2) Speed Highway: This was awesome in Sonic Adventure and it's positively glorious here.

1) Crisis City: Many people claim that the music was one of the only good points about Sonic 06. And while I can't make a clear judgement about the game as a whole. (Not having played it tends to cause that to happen), I can say that the music is damn good. And you know what else is damn good? Generations remix of Crisis City. Both acts, because they are both amazing.

#1: Sonic Unleashed

4) Skyscraper Scamper Night (yeah, all these are going to be the night levels fyi): Is it just me, or are there some fifties vibes to this song? Either way, the jazzy tune really compliments the level.

3) Cool Edge Night: If there's a song that is more fitting for this level, please point me in the right direction because I am not convinced. It just works so well.

2) Rooftop Run Night: Now here's a song that showed that Sonic Team did their research when it came to the different places they based each country on. I mean come on, this song just fits with the stage.

1) Jungle Joyride Night:

Oh god...

O-oh my god...

Those... those violins.

That haunting melody with the sound of the wind howling in the background....

That piano tune....

The way it all ingeniously compliments the atmosphere of the level....

That masterful composition of which can only come from my favorite level theme in the entire series....

It's...

It's....

It's perfect.

Question #23: What are your top FOUR zone themes for each of your top five/ten/three/etc games?

3: Sonic Generations:

City Escape: Both the Classic and Modern tracks are great. I like the little interlude in the Classic track in particular.

Speed Highway: Again, I really like the Classic and modern remixes here. Very energetic. I like the way the classic version starts off.

Crisis City: The Classic version is really catchy, almost a completely new song. Works as a "lava level" theme.

Sky Sanctuary: Really like the modern track. It's lofty and whimsical and it's kind of surprising because I never thought much of Sky Sanctuary before.

2: Sonic Adventure:

Speed Highway: This one is kind of redundant because it's in Generations but I really like the music in this level okay let's not fight. Also, it has the bonus of At Dawn.

Emerald Coast: Both tracks are really relaxing, which is kinda odd since Azure Blue World is set to the whole whale chase thing, but still.

Windy Valley: The Air is my favorite track here. I believe it's a remix from Sonic 3D Blast. Again, another upbeat track that's all energetic and happy and shit.

Casinopolis: The sewers theme here is great. Really stands out for being jazzy and smooth, which a lot of old SEGA games actually achieved in the later half of the 90s.

1: Sonic 3 & Knuckles:

Angel Island: The progression as you go from the happy and not-on-fire act 1 to the desperate, less happy and on-fire act 2 makes this zone stand out. Act 2 in particular is my favorite here with that theme to the backdrop of Sonic and Tails running from the airship is one of the game's highlights for me.

Flying Battery: Techno, upbeat, etc. There's a sense that this is Eggman's territory, but the excited nature of the music tells you it's not a final area.

Hydro City: The second track, I feel is a great track to demonstrate what the Genesis soundtrack was capable of. And by that, I mean the Genesis soundchip was shit, but by listening to Sonic 3 you might not think so.

Sandopolis: Those weird Genesisy sitars, those drums, everything about this track is great. One of my favorites from the game. I like how act 2 is a lot slower and creepier. Works, considering the level's gimmick.

whew.... did I even do this right?

Day 23: The insanely long and overdone question

Hmm, dont expect this one to be too deep though

3) Sonic 1

  • Green Hill zone, its a classic, still cant get it out of my head
  • Spring zone; fun and bouncy
  • Marble Zone: Slow, a little onimus, perfect fit for this very out of place stage
  • Scrap brain zone; fun toon with a good setup

2)Knuckles Chaotix

  • Speed Slider; Fast, ringy, and really representive of the stage it was in
  • Marina Madness; A bit slower, more relaxing, and gave a nice vibe to a level that ironicly enough didnt have water
  • Techno Tower; Dont have too much to say bout this one, has a similar feel, and works well
  • Amazing Arena;

1)Sonic the fighters; not nessecarily the most stand out, but had nice fighting music

  • Casino Night(also known as Nack's theme); Fun upbeat, perfect for a casino fight
  • South Island, fun fast upbeat and a little kooky
  • Aurora Icefeild: Fast tough, good fight music
  • Death Egg's Eye, fun tough, good for a next to final showdown

23/30 complete

Day 23: oh god what is this question god dammit crusher

4. Sonic Generations

  • Classic Crisis City. The best way to make the music from Sonic 06 good is to basically make a completely different song instead.
  • Green Hill. Classic. The modern remix uses brass and that's awesome.
  • City Escape. It's cheesey and stupid but let's not kid ourselves, that's Sonic.
  • Rooftop Run. Both remixes of this are great. It's a fun, energetic song.

3. Sonic the Hedgehog.

  • Green Hill. See above.
  • Spring Yard. I could describe this music as...bouncy.
  • Star Light. This is about as whimsical as old Sonic music got.
  • Marble Zone. Awesome music for a unique stage, and strangely reminiscent of an Andy Williams song.

2. Sonic Adventure

  • Twinkle Park. Whoo.
  • Speed Highway. Up and down and all around. Another energetic song but it's got a more serious tone.
  • Emerald Coast. Relaxing, but it fits a fast-paced level. Awesome guitars, too.
  • Windy Valley. This remix was one of the few good things to come out of Sonic 3D Blast.

1. Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

  • Hydro City. There's a lot going on with this track and it follows Angel Island Act 2's more serious shift nicely.
  • Angel Island. Starts out like a typical tropical level theme but becomes... I dunno, harsher, in the second act? It fits because everything just got lit on fire.
  • Flying Battery (2)  I still have those notes from the first 12 seconds stuck in my head.
  • Sandopolis, Genesis music tends to sound strange and tinny but SEGA themselves definitely got a lot of mileage out of the system. This track is a great example of that. It fits the level theme beautifully, too.

I like a lot of older Sonic songs because they have these long, drawn-out notes and prove that you don't have to match the gameplay's tempo to really fit.

I'd prefer it if you could keep it to four, since that is what the question asks. You are free to do "honourable mentions" and such, though. tongue.png

The only reason for why I didn't show any "honourable mentions" was because... well, let's just say that I didn't want the wait for this question to grow even larger.

I'm kind of a Sonic music geek.

This is gonna take some thought. Do note that any of these picks are subject to change.

Now then...

#5: Sonic Adventure:

#4: The Dreamy Stage

Dat jazz. this track just sounds so cool, like I'm actually in a casino in 1940's Vegas. it's a great fit for the level.

#3: Tornado and Scramble

Ahh, I feel nostalgic just listening to this (even though I first completed the game just a bit over a few years ago but whatever!).It's such an... I don't wanna say "epic", but it sounds like something serious is going down, and I like that. It's also really fitting in the second sky Chase level, when the sky is blackened with storm clouds and it's just awesome.

#2: General Offensive

This track takes an already awesome piece to 11. Now with a fresh new drum 'n' bass flavor, more intense guitar shredding, and a sick-sounding breakdown, the good doctor has been blessed with two great theme for his level.

#1: Red Hot Skull

It was between and Run Through the Speed Highway, but Red Hot Skull won out in the end. This track has such energy and ruggedness and grit and it's just amazing. it helps that it's backed by a sick, sick beat courtesy of Ghetto Red Hot by Supercat (fun fact: the drums are actually sampled from the instrumental version of the song), adding some Hip-Hop to this rock-fueled track. Marvelous.

Ahh, I forgot how good this soundtrack was AND I CAN ONLY PICK FOUR SONGS!

#4: Sonic Colors:

#4: Starlight Carnival

I initially didn't really care for this track, but it's grown on me a hell of a lot. Just the way everything comes together, the chords, the lead, the energetic drumming, the 8-bit blips in the background, it's just all so lovely.

#3: Sweet Mountain in general

Ah yeah. This song was my baby as soon as I heard it in the trailers. The horns in this are sooooo good. I still think they're sampled from somewhere...

The other acts share a similar level of awesome, but Act 1 came to mind first.

#2: Asteroid Coaster Acts 1 and 2

I love these tracks. They're so energetic and rocking that I kinda have to resist the urge to bounce around in my chair. What I love about Act 1 in particular is the bridge. Great blend of the chords and the guitar solo that sounds like it was ripped right a space action hero TV show. it just sounds so triumphant it's amazing.

Act 3 is kinda underwhelming in comparison, but it's still good on its own.

#1: Terminal Velocity

BEST. SONG. IN THE GAME. PERIOD.

Seriously, this track is amazing. The horns, the guitar, the piano, the fast-paced energy, it all blends so well!

And of course there's that awesome breakdown at 1:16. Soon as I heard that I knew this song was the best in the game.

Act 2 is also amazing, but criminally short.

#3: Sonic Generations:

#4: The Special Stage Music (3DS)

The Heroes version is cool too, but this one just sounds cleaner. Plus, I liek how it all comes together in the B-section.

#3: Speed Highway Classic

Cash Cash took a great song and Electro House-ized it, making it a great fit with the level's aesthetics. A rave party while smashing through building and traversing twisted road while running from the cops under the city lights? Don't mind if I do!

#2: City Escape Classic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEvbbHiS6rQ

Someone give Cash Cash an award. They managed to make dancepop good. Not only did they manage to make dancepop sound good, they managed to make it sound amazing. I usually detest this type of music, but Cash Cash somehow found a way to make it work, and I love them for it.

#1: Crisis City Modern

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fDcvxzgCBE

The string section in this is just beautiful. I also love the pianos that accompany it. They just work so brilliantly together.

#2: Sonic 3 & Knuckles:

#4: Flying Battery Zone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcRHBgGHtwo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLaSIz2ye-8

I love the sort of dark, actiony feel these tracks have to them. I think Act 2 hasthe better instrument choice, though.

#3: Launch Base Zone Act 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EJTPrGiJNY

I love how this track has a funky Egyptian vibe to it. The bassline and "guitars" work so well together in this.

#2: Hydrocity Zone (because no boss themes grrr)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5sGV7Jw2s8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR3Eh_516JQ

These tracks were always a favorite of mine. For a time, I preferred Act 2 over 1, but now I think I've become more fond of Act 1 because of its funkiness.

#1: Lava Reef Zone Act 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pg0N77nI_OI

I like how upbeat this track is while sounding serious climactic, like you're nearing the end of your adventure, you're on the home stretch, and soon, you're finally gonna be facing off against your rival. It's just great.

#1: Sonic the Hedgehog 2:

#4: Casino Night Zone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DHAWUVuTBo

This honestly does sound like a Big Band song you'd hear in a speakeasy, converted into 16-bit. I have to wonder how Nakamura came up with such a catchy and fitting tune.

#3: Sky Chase Zone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFY5CRYfzOU

Dat R&B

I just love how serene this track is while also sounding kinda sad. Plus it uses my favorite chord progression ever so there's that.

#2: Mystic Cave Zone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJNXTAX0adY

UNGH DAT BASS

This track is pure ghost-house funk that's reminiscent of Michael Jackson before he even did any music for the series. Amazing.

And finally, #1: Mystic Cave Zone (2-player)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtrPEPVN-bM

This track is just so... fun. It captures everything I like about 90's J-Poppy anime themes and puts them onto a Sega Genesis. Seriously, this sounds like I could play it at a party or something. Lovely.

Sooo I guess that's that. This is without a doubt my lengthiest post in this thread so far.

Day #23: What are your top FOUR zone themes for each of your top five/ten/three/etc games?

o-o;

Alright Aero, get yourself together. There's no time to rest. He's a runnin' man in this world and he'll put you to the test. You've done every single day up to this point. You can do this. but do i have to elaborate on why i like the songs? ...fine

...Anyway, here we go--no particular order on this. And I'm just gonna do top 3 games. It's 9:03 PM here. Goodness sakes Crusher.

Sonic Rush

-Jeh Jeh Rocket. Sonic Rush's music has a tendency to grow on you all of a sudden and get stuck in your head for eternity.

-Dead Line(Blaze). I love the instrumentals in the background.

-Water Palace. BACK 2 BACK, SPINNIN' ON BACK.

-Mirage Road. taco meat meat stuck on my face (???)

Sonic Adventure

-Windy Valley. So cheerful and nostalgic.

-At Dawn. All I can say is it's beautiful.

-Lost World 1. Really captures the "adventure" feel. Where's Knuckles's OVA hat in this game?

-Tikal's theme. There are so many songs in Adventure I love, but I just felt like I had to put Tikal's theme on this list. I also went as her for Halloween one year.

Sonic Colors

-Aquarium Park 2. Fast paced and calming at the same time.

-Asteroid Coaster 3. Pretty awesome opening. Of course, the rest of the song's great, but there's something about the opening in particular.

-Planet Wisp 1. THAT PIANO. That's all.

-Terminal Velocity 2. Seems more on-edge than Act 1, and the electronic bits are a nice touch.

Wow, that took exactly 30 minutes. Started this post at 9:03 and finished at 9:33.

Wait, can we use Boss Music or does that not count?

Nada, unfortunately. Strictly standard level themes. tongue.png

Originally, the question actually did involve other types of music (bosses, events, etc), but that gave me an even harder time, and I didn't want to make the wait for this question even longer. So I decided to cut it down to level themes in order to make things a little easier for myself (and also to make it look a little neater).

f383559e1529630753c416968298c397.png

WE GON' TALK MUSIC.

LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

AR'S FOUR FAVORITE SONGS FROM FAVORITE SONIC GAME #5: LOST WORLD

Wait Lost World? Really? Yeah really. I had tons of fun with Lost World so why not? The music's great too. In fact, so great, I even made MORE Beastie Boys mashups with five of the songs from the game (one of which is on this list!) Now, enough with the stupid self-promotion, let's get on to my favorite tracks!

#4: Hidden World

The super grooviness of this funkadelic song just makes me wanna party alllllll night. So catchy. Dat brass in the song too. This song was a nice treat to hear after completing the game. (Also, if/when the TSS Album '13 finally comes out, you'll probably be hearing more of this song wink.png

#3: Tropical Coast Zone 1

I DON'T CARE WHAT ANY OF Y'ALL THINK ABOUT THIS SONG, IT IS REGGAE/SKA AND IT IS GROOVY AND IT IS WONDERFUL AND AMAZING AND I WILL LOVE IT FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRR

Okay sorry about that. I mean, who'd've thought that Reggae would make its way into a Sonic game? I was utterly astonished at hearing this and the entire time I just felt absolutely happy listening to it. I think this was one of my favorite stages in the game itself too.

#2: Thundercloud Acropolis (Sky Road Zone 4)

Smooth. One word I could use to describe this. It's just. So. Smooth. So chill. So...cool sounding. Not much drums in the song, but that short little fill that's plays every now and again adds that little bit of oomph to it to keep it from being to stagnant. The middle part with all the...strings (I believe? you know, the part that plays when you're sliding on the sand in the game) is SO GOOD. Anyways yeah. If you ever do look at the mashup EP I posted, I used it for a mashup, which probably also accounts for why I like it so much.

#1: Honeycomb Highway (Desert Ruins Zone 2)

Considered by many as a "spiritual successor" of sorts to Unleashed's Skyscraper Scamper, Honeycomb Highway delivers a frantic, fast-paced, jazzy, catchy little tune to motivate you while speeding down the...well...road, for lack of a better term. I remember when the first bits of gameplay popped up for Lost World and we were introduced to that stage. Maaaaan, I swear I couldn't get that song out of my head for...until the game came out, actually!

AR'S FOUR FAVORITE SONGS FROM FAVORITE SONIC GAME #4: RUSH ADVENTURE

Rush Adventure was sweeeeeeeet. The soundtrack was just as sweeeeeeeeeeet. Now let's get ooooooon with the show!

#4:  Pirates' Island

DA-DUM, DA-DUM, DA-DUM DA-DUM! DUN! DUN!

I hope at least one of you sang the opening melody when reading that. Anyways, this is a really cool final stage song. It starts off pretty epic, and then it slips into those melodic bits that just ahhhhhh yeah. I need to listen to this one more.

#3:Plant Kingdom

OHHH-AHHHH! OHHH-AHHHH!

That intro stage song. So gooooooooooood. I actually prefer it to Right There, Ride On from the first game. It's so damn good. Those samples thrown in there are damn funky too. Man I love the brass in this one too. Hell yeah.

#2: Blizzard Peaks

That guitar. That bass. That siren. That high octane awesomeness. What more can I say?

Oh yeah, I can't forget this: If you like this song and haven't heard the Mario & Sonic version of this, then you're missin' out. BIG time.

#1: Haunted Ship

Hey, wasn't this song on Frogger 2? Okay now that I got that dumb joke outta the way, let's talk about my favorite song. This song. I can't really say much about this song except that IT'S SO GOOD AND THAT TECHNO STOMPIN' SAMPLE FITS SO WELL AND AOGEBSHDFIOGHSEROIGH

For those of you who remember the TSS Music Album 2011, I made a (pretty bad/mediocre) remix of this song. This was actually the first (or second...can't quite remember, finished them both around the same time) Sonic song I remixed.

AR'S FOUR FAVORITE SONGS FROM FAVORITE SONIC GAME #3: TRIPLE TROUBLE

Wait, why is this my third favorite Sonic game? I don't even know myself...whatever, let's get this 8-bit ball rolling.

#4: Meta Junglira

This is a pretty cool, complex song for an 8-bit game. I think if I ever feel like it, I'll try remixing this one some day...

#3: Great Turquoise

Such a nice intro level song. Made me feel kinda warm and fuzzy the first time listening to it. Lovely 8-bit melody.

#2: Robotnik Winter

Now this is some good ice level music. It's kind of short, but it's really catchy. Definitely my favorite of the stage themes...well...not really, just keep going.

#1: Sunset Park Act 3 (The Train)

Was there any other choice? Quite arguably the most famous of Sonic's 8-bit songs, Sunset Park's final Train segment gives us quite possibly the best damn thing to come from any of the GG Sonic games. Also, since I've been talking about a bunch of fan stuff I did, I should totally take this time to mention that Gregzilla's rendition of this song from the TSS Music Album '11 is fucking amazing and you should listen to it.

AR'S FOUR FAVORITE SONGS FROM FAVORITE SONIC GAME #2: GENERATIONS

If I knew this was coming, I wouldn't have like this game back in 2011...this is probably going to be the most difficult...argh. Whatever. Let the remixes commence!

(also, I'm pissed because I wrote a sentimental paragraph about the You're My Hero remix but it's a mission song and not a full zone song and, aw screw it let's just go)

#4: Crisis City Act 1

Best classic stage, hands down. Also best classic song hands do-...well..can't quite say that yet... Anyways, this rocking, intense, dance rendition of the crisis city theme never fails to hype me up while playing. It's such a fine rendition. Oh my, I also forgot to mention the bitchin' guitar.

Here's a bonus: Something I did with this song when I was bored.

#3: Rooftop Run Act 1

Quite possibly the happiest friggin song in the franchise, this remix of Rooftop Run LITERALLY made me dance...actively...like on my feet...while playing...yeaaaaaah that didn't go to well. That beautiful disco. That BEAUTIFUL disco. Ahhhh man. Sonic should do more disco because it is sweeeeeet.

#2: Tropical Resort Act 2

This song...it's like Tropical Resort and that one boss theme from Sonic Colors had a baby. The resulting beautiful combination is so damn rockin' and frantic and surf-rockish that I feel like dancing like I'm at a Punk Rock concert every time I blast it.

#1: Escape from the City [Cash Cash Remix] (City Escape Act 1)

Never thought I'd hear a rave remix of City Escape...but I did, and it rocked. Cash Cash rocked it. The nod to the beta version of City Escape? Genius. The Endless Mine reference in the vocals? ABSOLUTE GENIUS.

AR'S FOUR FAVORITE SONGS FROM FAVORITE SONIC GAME #1: COLORS

THE POST'S COMIN' TO AN END. IT'S COMIN TO A FUCKIN' END!

Yep Colors is still my favorite blah blah blah cool music blah blah blah love the game to death blah blah blah okay let's do this

#4: Tropical Resort Act 3 (The funky J-Pop Dance Party Version...you know what I mean.)

What's with the J-Pop thing? well...this song makes me think of an anime opening for some reason. Don't ask. Well, pretty much every reason I like this song is in the bolded part. It's funky, it sounds kinda J-Popish, and it makes me want to have a Dance Party. Simple enough.

#3: Sweet Mountain Act 2

I would've just put all of Sweet Mountain's stuff, but I decided to single this one out because I listen to this version in particular more than the other ones. It makes me think of like...one of those old-fashioned car chase scenes. It's really swingin' and I just like the way that song's laid out. It's especially cool when in Acts 2 AND 5, if you restart it from the pause menu, Sonic's motions match perfectly with the song (preps up during the intro, starts running when the horns kick in). It's really cool. Thankfully Colors didn't do the "restarts cost one life" thing because you could probably guess that I restarted a lot just to see that perfect timing over and over again. Seriously, it's really friggin' cool.

#2: Starlight Carnival Act 1

Such a wonderful song that perfectly fits the atmosphere of the stage. Seriously, when I came running out into the lightspeed part for the first time, I was absolutely blown away. I legit forgot I was playing a Wii Game for a few moments. The music is just really nice. Was sad to not see this stage in Generations, but we got it in ASRT, so that was cool.

#1: Terminal Velocity Act 1

Well this one seems to be popping up in a lot of favorites, but WHY WOULDN'T IT?! THIS SONG'S AMAZING. This is like perfect running music man. Wow, I should try running to this song...but I hate running. Actually, this one makes me think of being late to something and rushing...but I digress. THAT GUITAR AND THAT BRASS ARE ABSOLUTELY PERFECT OKAY.

THAT'S EVERYTHING THIS POST TOO ME THREE HOURS I HATE THIS DAY I HOPE IT DIES IN A BUCKET FULL OF MOTOBUG DOO DOO

Thank you for your time, and goodnight.

OKAY NOW IT'S DONE. I WILL NOW PROCEED TO EXPLODE.

Geez Doc! Alright, here we go:

#23:

Sonic_Rush_Coverart.png

Sonic Rush:

Water Palace - One of the few good water levels not just in Sonic but video games period!

Mirage Road - I love the look of this zone plus DAT ETHNO CIRCUS!

Dead Line - Yes this was what I needed

Huge Crisis - Sonic gets to whoop GUN's ass again. AWESOME!

S3k_title.png

Sonic 3 & Knuckles:

Sky Sanctuary - One act too short but it was so good it got a remake twice (Sonic Advance and Sonic Generations)

Hydocity - Sonic first good water level (especially Act 2)

Launch Base - Go!

Lava Reef - Not exactly sure why I love it so much.  Maybe it's because it comes right after the tiring zone that is Sandopolis.  I guess I really like the music.  (Mostly Act 1)

Sonic CD:

Palmtree Panic - Green Hill on crack

Quartz Quadrant - A really cool mining level with some great music (US and JPN). Feels a little short though...

Stardust Speedway - Get funky, Get funky, now hustle hustle!  Also the Metal Sonic race.

Metallic Madness - Chibi Sonic!  Its Bad Future (the opposite Toot Toot Sonic Warrior) and its Good Future (one of my favorite music tracks in the series)

Sonic Generations:

Sky Sanctuary - Now this is what I'm talking about! TWO acts and both are fantastic and beautiful!

Speed Highway - DAT CLASSIC REMIX and the design for the Modern level.  Also had some really good challenge missions.

City Escape - How is it possible to make the perfect city level twice!

Rooftop Run - I knew I was going to love it the moment I entered.

Sonic Adventure 2:

City Escape - My favorite level in the series. NO QUESTION!

Radical Highway - Shad's first level is pretty intense!

Dry Lagoon - An oasis level that was just perfect for Rouge the Bat.

Cosmic Wall - The best level possible for ole Egghead! smile.png

3. Sonic the Hedgehog (MS/GG)

- Labyrinth - MS/GG > Genesis, especially when it comes to the music. People harp on about Bridge, but we all know which zone's the king of 8-bit land. Reminds me of the Darkwing Duck NES game.

- Scrap Brain - Another song that's way better than the Genesis version. Would love to hear a proper 16-bit rendition of this.

- Jungle - Cute song that doesn't really fit Sonic, but this was back when they haven't nailed down his style anyway. It's insanely cheerful and adorable.

- Bridge - Pretty popular song and it's easy to see why. I don't buy into the theory that Tails's theme was adapted from this, but it's a nice coincidence.

- Since it doesn't count, an honorary mention goes to the Ending Theme. Honestly I'd rank this as my second favorite song in the game.

2. Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn/PC)

- Panic Puppet Zone Act 2 - The act 2 version of this song is somehow way more intense than the first. Sexiest part is starting from 1:03.

- Rusty Ruin Zone Act 2 - Mmm yes more gorgeous sounding Sonic music. <3

- Gene Gadget Zone Act 1 - I really cannot get enough of the piano. I think pretty-sounding final(-ish) level music should be a more frequent trend in the Sonic series.

- Green Grove Zone Act 1 - Honestly the perfect first level theme to me. This was the very first Sonic level music I heard, so it's had something of an impact on my tastes.

1. Sonic 3 & Knuckles

- Launch Base Zone Act 1 (S&K Collection) - I played the PC version of Sonic 3 years before ever realizing that the Genesis version had different music. This rendition of Launch Base is one of my fave Sonic final themes.

- Launch Base Zone - Yeah I like the Genesis version a lot too, not nearly as much as the above version but it's incredibly chill and catchy.

- Death Egg Zone - I feel like this song was what the Death Egg series of games had been building up to. This is one of those levels I turn to when I try to define the classic games' absolute best music.

- Endless Mine - Real talk, most of the 2P music in Sonic 3 is better than the regular zone music. Endless Mine is pretty much Sonic 3's melancholic/pretty song that a lot of Sonic games tend to have.
