Dr. Crusher Presents: The 30 Days of Sonic the Hedgehog (sponsored by PowerVerte)-Fin, PAGE 150

Dr. Crusher

Recommended Posts

- Labyrinth - MS/GG > Genesis, especially when it comes to the music. People harp on about Bridge, but we all know which zone's the king of 8-bit land. Reminds me of the Darkwing Duck NES game.

- Gene Gadget Zone Act 1 - I really cannot get enough of the piano. I think pretty-sounding final(-ish) level music should be a more frequent trend in the Sonic series.

Very good choices I say I say very good choices.

Day 23: What are your FOUR favorite theme zones in the Sonic games?

#5 Sonic Colors

Sweet Mountain: Really love that energetic jazzy feel to this song. Also fitting for the food themed attraction of Eggman’s Interstellar Amusement Park.

Planet Wisp: The harmonious tune of the Wisp’s home world with the combination of Eggman’s contraptions polluting the environment really pulls a string to my heart when I listen to this.

Starlight Carnival: The fast pace techno theme of this neon space park is just fantastic, more of the line of act 1.

Aquarium Park: I really love the oriental style music that fit the underwater park and that piano playing through all three acts and it’s so beautiful to listen to. I’m a sucker for the piano bits. :P

#4 Sonic Advance

Neo Green Hill: Really relaxing and upbeat tune, definitely fitting to the tropical themes of this stage. I think I love act 1’smusic more because of that.

Casino Paradise: To be honest, I could really go with both. Since I love jazz music, whether it be fast or slow paced, then I don’t really mind and just choose them both.

Ice Mountain: Such a beautiful harmonious tune to always hear. I like act 2, but I love act 1’s a lot more.

Egg Rocket/Cosmic Egg: Much like Casino Paradise, I could go with both. The first act’s theme of setting off into space, it’s so majestic. And the second act’s theme of arriving at Eggman’s space fortress, the final battle to soon take place.

#3 Sonic the Hedgehog CD (Japanese Soundtrack)

Palmtree Panic: Another one of them tropical themes I love. The discovery of new world and an energetic upbeat theme is always a good way to start your adventure. Also hearing the children cheering warms my heart inside, especially the Good Future. <3

Collision Chaos: Dat classic 90’s funky hip hop beat is always glorious to listen.

Tidal Tempest: I love the Present version of the stage, because of how calm it is at first and then starts to kick up.

Stardust Speedway: The high speed intense action of the level really fits this stage really well. Whether it be BF, GF, Present or Past; they all sound glorious.

#2 Sonic Adventure

“Azure Blue” for Emerald Coast: An energetic theme where you’re running around on the beach having fun.

“At Dawn” for Speed Highway: That sense of the hip-hop vibe this song gives off when it’s the break of dawn is just utterly fantastic.

“Mt. Red” for Red Mountain: The wild experience of running through mountains with geysers ready to blow their lids off as soon as you step on them. The first part of the theme always made me imagine scenarios like that.

“Tricky Maze” for Lost World: Without a doubt this one, or I should say, the first part of Lost World. I love the very adventure into a temple-like vibe this song gives and also that piano part that kicks later in the song.

#1 Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Angel Island Zone: Another relaxing and upbeat theme for a tropical level. Act 1’s theme always gets me the most.

Hydro City Zone: Love act 2’s theme the most, because of how energetic it gets, especially when they take place in underwater levels.

Launch Base Zone:  I love that 90s hip-hop beat to this song, at least that’s what I feel and hear about this track. Let’s also not that Michael Jackson was also a part of this track as well makes it all the more awesome.

Lava Reef Zone: I fucking love the first act of Lava Reef Zone to death, I really really do. There is something so intense and awesome about the tune that plays when you’re in the caverns deep inside of a volcano.

Day 23~! :3

. . . *scratches head* Haa~~~?! What an around about question that is. I think my brain broke a bit reading it.

Well in any case let's give it a try~! o/ *clears throat*

This is in no really order, so first game is~~

Sonic Shuffle

Number 4: Space Encounter

Oh this is a lovely theme for space, I remember this song from the Picture Taking minigame and it got stuck in my head. I honestly think the best part is from 19 to 35 seconds.

Number 3: Pig City

This is a timed minigame theme, it plays during Sonic DJ, where you have to collect rings on a big record player. Ah it's very catchy and I can't help but to dance along with it.

Number 2: A Silver Drop

Oh this is nice theme as well. It feels a bit spacey and mm I just love it alot. Its a very good theme.

Number 1: Wave Taste

Best theme in the game hands down. You can't convince me otherwise so don't try! XP This is my absolute favorite thing from Shuffle it is too good and catchy and hnnnnnnnnng makes me smile. *gropes theme* Yes~~~.

Sonic Advance

Number 4: Neo Green Hill Act 2

Not to say Act 1 is bad but I prefer Act 2 more. Its so chillax and soothing and it gives you that beach like vibe and it still works when you get to the lush little jungle part and yeah it's really good.

Number 3: Casino Paradise Act 1

I can't remember what Act 2 sounds like but it doesn't matter~ cause I like Act 1 moar~~. You get a feeling you really are in a casino with this theme. Yes yes.

Number 2: EggRocket Zone

It's a pretty atmospheric theme all soft at the start becoming intense when you go into the rocket. Mmm~~~~ yes this is a good one. Alot I love the background before you go into the rocket. ♥

Number 1: Angel Island Act 1-2

I can't choose between the two so I lump both together. Yes yes this is best themes for me in that game. They're both ever so lovely~~! ♥♥♥

Honorable Mention

Ice Mountain Act 1

Sonic Advance 2

Number 4: Techno Base Act 1-2

Yeah I'm lumping things together again cause I fail at picking things. But the themes are both very good and you get the techy feel from them both.

Number 3: Hot Crater Act 1-2

I'm seeing a pattern here . . . *coughs* Amyway~~ Hot Crater really makes me wanna go fast as soon as I hear the first beats of the themes and like it's all BOOOOOSSSSSTTTTT~~~~~ GOTTA SPEEDRUN THIS ZONE GOTTA GO STUPIDLY FAST FASTER FASTER!

*coughs* Ahem yes.

Number 2: Sky Canyon Act 1-2

Yup still ain't picking one~. So this place, this may cause you to rage quit depending on how tolerant you are about Bottomless Pits. But the music is so good I never care if I fall in one. And I never do not really. I find myself to be very good at this zone. :3 But the themes gives you an airy kind of excitement that I adore~~.

Number 1: Music Plant Act 1-2

We need more shit like Music Plant in the series, design wise and music wise. Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes this zone's theme is most definitely gets the point of a musical zone across yesyesyes love love love these themes both of them hnnnnnnnnnng~!

Okay last game~!

Sonic Colors

Number 4: Asteroid Coaster Act 2

It's still rock but softer and mmm~~~ so good. Love it~~~. ♥

Number 3: Aquarium Park Act 3

Dem drums at the start. Dat beautiful piano. But mostly dem drums. ♥♥

Number 2: Sweet Mountain Act 2

Such Jazzinss it's the best and the best part of the theme is 1.07 onto 1.30. BEST PART OF THE THEME. ♥♥♥

Number 1: Planet Wisp Act 3

Best theme in the game~~~~~~! It is you can't tell me otherwise. I will not listen no no no I won't. Yesyesyes I love love love this theme its so upbeat even through plays in the acts where Fatman has taken over completely by covering most of the area with his machines and metal. I imagine him hitting back looking over things with a smug smile. Haha~. I just love this theme~! ♥♥♥♥

FOUR BEST SONGS FROM SONIC 3 & KNUCKLES

1. Ice Cap - You know why. The melody is rad as hell, and Hard Times is a great song.

2. Flying Battery - IT'S FUCKING GROOVY DUDE. You're blowing shit up in Eggman's flying air base, robots showing up all over the place getting in your way, and the whole time this kickass tune is pumping you up.

3. Hydrocity - Feels hip and bouncy, I totally dig it. Fits the level really well, and it's just fun to listen to.

4. Big Arm - It starts out ominous, and instantly starts booming when the battle begins and shit hits the fan. Again, it's really exciting and fun, and sets the tone perfectly.

OKAY AND THEN THE FOUR BEST IN GENERATIONS

1. Stardust Speedway - It's hip hop as shit and I dig it. Actually used this as my alarm tone for a while.

2. Speed Highway - Dat guitar. Dat bass. Dat up and down and all around. Iconic as hell, and for good reason.

3. City Escape Act 2 - Honestly probably nostalgia. Love this one to bits.

4. Rooftop Run Act 1 - Super bouncy and fun, I love it.

Day 23: NO AGENT SOMA, I EXPECT YOU TO DIE

k.abck.avwhc /akvuwk.hv akw.cvhqk OKAY HERE WE GO

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER

Sonic Adventure 2 OKAY GO

1. City Escape no ifs no ands no buts not even any butts this is hands down my favorite track in the game if I was feeling particularly gutsy/drunk I would say that this makes for a better Sonic theme than most I've come across but I don't feel like dying today and I still have so much typing to do

2. Egg Quarters so sleek and spy-esque once it gets rolling that smooth groove just takes me away to entirely pg-rated places because man oh man do I love me some jazz NEXT SONG

3. White Jungle is pretty darn funky and manages to make a monkey screaming into something actually not horrifically annoying this is easily the finest of Shadow's stage themes because it just does the whole industrial dance-rock thing so flawlessly awesome cool great I dig you dig we all dig NEXT SONG

4. Meteor Herd baby this is the most underrated Knuckles track ever probably because it's the least embarassing to play in front of live human beings instruments give off a cool groove and it really feels like the calm before the storm the storm of LOVE I guess haha man am I clever NEXT SONG

HM. A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup however is here precisely because it's embarassing to play in front of live human beings and I'm pretty sure everybody knows why plus it's got a sick halloween feel to it like if you were some totally lame suburban kid trying to scare your elderly neighbors with newfangled furry music as some sort of trick-or-treat prank I dunno where I'm going with this NEXT GAME

*GASP*

Sonic 3&K

1. HYDRO CITY BRO I mean this one is just great especially Act 2's rendition it's like they got Michael Jackson's DNA and instead of cloning him or creating any hilarious abominations of nature they just kind of stuck it in a Sonic game which you know is fine by me I guess but the negated possibility of making a completely black Michael Jackson will forever haunt my waking life NEXT SONG

2. Ice Cap you all knew this was coming let's just get this out of the way Ice Cap's theme is incredibly chill and ridunkulously cool if you know what I'm saying if you catch my drift if you know that the joke is I'm talking about ice but seriously seriously seriously tho this is one remixable stage like dag yo NEXT SONG
4. UHHH Flying Battery is pretty sweet it has a sort of chugging high flying feel to it like man it makes me feel like as if I were actually on a fatman's giant airship jumping on silly robots and most games they can't even begin to convey that level of versimilitude if I spelled that right I'm assuming I am moving on this is catchy as crap like wow NEXT SONG

17. Fun fact if you re-arrange the letters of Sonic 3 you uh well you don't really get anything but anyways Sky Sanctuary's track is pretty cool it has a sort of ascending "I'm gonna eff Eggman up" sort of feel to it which is priceless when trying to give the feeling of wonder in a player and it doesn't hurt that it plays in a pretty neat level but seriously what am I supposed to say about these songs it's good I guess okay LEAVE ME ALONE WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME NEXT SONG

HM. Of course it's Angel Island why wouldn't it be Angel Island this is like if Donkey Kong music decided being atmospheric is for clouds and started being really friggin groovy and plus when it hits Act 2 it escalates admirably and really feels like danger is setting in it's really just all sorts of great as far as an introduction goes but um that's kind of it NEXT GAME

*WHEEZE*

Sonic CD (AMERICAN VERSION HAHA SCREW ALNJ SCYALL<P_OP)

1. I miss having fun but um I mean Stardust Speedway's Bad Future is pretty friggin rad and really all of Stardust Speedway this really needs more love it's just fantastic and it feels like something BIG is about to go down and I don't mean the cat you unfunny jackhats who thought that I know who you are I have your addresses it's all here all I GOTTA DO IS NEXT SONG

2. Palmtree Panic is pretty sweet for about the same reasons Angel Island is cool but with the added benefit of having decent sound quality like seriously that horn section is just begging for some funky sort of horn-based dance to break out so it doesn't feel all so waste as a soundtrack to stomp robot ladybugs to NEXT SONG

3. Wacky Workbench's present theme makes what is an unbearably horrible stage into ONE GIANT FUNK-FEST SHOO DOO DOO HECK YEA anyways so it's pretty neat and that guitar is just oozing something synonamous with funk because darn if this isn't killing my word variety of words NECKS QUESTION

4. CRUSHER YOU WILL RUE THE DAY that um I didn't get to listen to Tidal Tempest's present theme it's so cool and laidback it's like cool and laidback and it almost doesn't make me wanna off myself in a needlessly extravagant manner because if I get logged out in the middle of answering this monster of a question I swear to goats NEXT SONG

HM. Seriously Metallic Maddness present is the only theme we've got left well okay it's pretty atmospheric and interesting and precisely what I wish more Sonic tracks in the future would take from because it doesn't have to resort to orchestral nonsense to sound grand you heARING ME UNLEASHED TAKE THAT I SAY AND THAT AND THIS AND I SPIT ON YOUR HUSBAND SO GOOD DAY GOOD NIGHT YOU'LL BE HEARING FROM MY LAWYERS IN FIVE DAYS AHABAHAHAHAHABKXBhs.wdm hkss.h

DID I DID DIDIDO DIDDDDDDDIDO IT PLEASEPLESPLESPLES IKMDOKN E ON LETFCDXME OUTF I MISSX THE SUN  PLEASE PLEASJNK EDS;LMOSSDMOW;HBILkb iGUVBK;.V.;jhVCUG

OK, man, let's do this:

5. Sonic CD

I. Stardust Speedway Bad Future: The American version of this sounds ethereal and spacey, and ergo cool. The Japanese version, well, it's catchy as hell.

II. Metallic Madness Bad Future: Love how dystopian and climactic both tracks are. I just think of Sonic going through the zone looking for Eggman while beating up badniks like it's the climax to the 1989 Batman film. Also for some reason the US one makes me think of 1984.

III. Tidal Tempest Present: I mostly remember the US version over the JPN track, but goddammit those chanting girls add to the funkyness of it.

IV. Metallic Madness Present: Fits well with the name, be it more metallic in nature (US) or balls-to-the-wall hectic sounding (JPN).

V: Metallic Madness Good Future: While the US track is more subdued, the JPN one really gives you that feeling of "Eggman's lost, now all we have to do is kick his ass off Little Planet!".

4. Sonic Lost World

I. Sea Bottom Segue: Oh... just... oooooouuuuuggggghhhhh... so guuuuuuuuuuud...

II. Dragon Dance: Insanely epic and oriental. While it fits Zavok well, I can't help but feel Master Zik should've had it as well.

III. Lava Mountain: Dubstep? In MY Sonic? Wait, why does it work so well?!

IV. Thundercloud Acropolis: So haunting and epic. This is the point where you realise that it's no longer "Baldy McNosehair" quips, but serious goddamn business.

V. Juice Archipelago: So upbeat and happy! I do think the game's style may have complimented Classic Sonic slightly better when I hear this, though.

3. Sonic the Hedgehog

I. Labyrinth Zone: This always sticks in my mind for some reason, but whatever that reason is, it ain't a bad one.

II. Star Light Zone: So chill and relaxing. And the level's set in front of a city at night. Good.

III. Green Hill Zone: C'mon, it's a classic.

IV. Marble Zone: It's a catchy theme for a disliked level (I don't mind it myself. Maybe it's the purple and green that do it).

V. Spring Yard Zone: Bouncy and urban-sounding. Likez.

2. Sonic 3 and Knuckles

I. Hydrocity Zone Act 2: HEEEL YEAH BOI DIS GON B SOME GOOD WATER RUINS ACTION (Incidentally Act 1 always makes me think of Captain N for some reason. My mind's weird.).

II. Angel Island Act 2: First Sonic music I heard (thanks to Ultimate Flash Sonic). Awesome.

III. Ice Cap Zone: "Hard times, duh duh do duh duh duh duh..."

IV. Death Egg Act I: Mechanical sounding evilness, yeah.

V. Lava Reef Zone: I like how Act 1 is upbeat and bouncy, while Act 2 is chiller.

1. Sonic the Hedgehog 2

I. Aquatic Ruin Zone: Pretty catchy and fitting for the zone it plays in.

II. Metropolis Zone: Technological and rocking. Interestingly, it doesn't sound "evil" like Scrap Brain did.

III. Hidden Palace Zone/Mystic Cave 2 Player: That damn riff man. Truth be told, I think the "actual" HPZ music is more cinematic than level music.

IV. Wing Fortress Zone: Sounds like a triumphant fanfare. I imagine Eggman has this playing when the ship goes anywhere, like he's a superhero come to free the townspeople below from the evil clutches of not being under his rule.

V. Hill Top Zone: While the zone itself makes me go "yeah, HTZ is a thing, it exists", the music is actually pretty memorable. I dunno why, it gives me this feeling that Sonic and Tails have come a long way in their fight against Eggman.

Question #23: What are your top FOUR zone themes for each of your top five/ten/three/etc games?

The question asks what it says on the tin. This question took me forever due to constantly changing various parts of it out of indecisiveness. If you haven't guessed, I'm shattered at this point. Sad times.

Note: For the sake of making things a little easier for everyone, in the case of games with music for individual Acts, you're free to just put both/all three of them of them together due to how similar they usually sound.

Note #2: I'm talking mainly about themes for "full" zones/levels. So tracks like Sonic the Hedgehog 2's Death Egg or Sonic Advance's X-Zone tragically don't count.

Note #3: Hub music also doesn't count. Because I'm a horrible person.

Ok, I think I'll just still to the Modern Era for this round (mostly the Boost Trilogy). Otherwise, I'll be here all night…tongue.png

?. Sonic Colors
317356_t_2512100104.jpg101014110280-1-300x300.jpg

First, let's start with Sonic Colors.

4. Tropical Resort

320px-TropicalReservoir1.jpg

While not exactly tropical music, it does have a space station type feel to it. Also, is cheerful and gets you ready for the new adventure.

3. Starlight Carnival

StarlightCarnivalMap.png

This Zone has the most space themed music out of all the Acts in the game.

2. Aquarium Park

AquariumParkMap.png

Aquarium Park also has this other worldly vibe in its music. Also, has some nice piano parts.

1. Planet Wisp

320px-Planet_Wisp_Wii.jpg

You know…for a planet that's been enslaved and turned into a massive prison, its starts out with this powerful piano intro….and continues to this peaceful, jazz rhythm….

Act 2 and Act 3 are nice remixes that don't alienate themselves from Act 1 and continue the sweet vibes.

2. Sonic Generations (HD Version)
242px-Sonic_generation_q342_cover2321.jp

Sonic Generations was a fun time travel adventure, despite a lack of a story. For the HD Version, I found myself liking most of the Act 1/Classic Remixes of the Millennium/Dreamcast and Modern Era Levels and the Act 2/Modern Remixes of the Genesis Era Levels. Since Bosses and other music is out of the question, here we go...

4. Chemical Plant Act 2

320px-SonicGenerations_ChemicalPlantAct2

The Modern Remix of Chemical Plant is fast with guitars and other instruments. I especially the song's intro.

3. City Escape Act 1 and Act 2

320px-ClassicCityEscape.jpg320px-MSonicCityEscape.jpg

Whether it's the techno beat of Classic Sonic's level with the Classic Ring Collecting sound or Modern Sonic's level with the original song with new lyrics at the end, both remixes of City Escape work perfectly with the new levels in Sonic Generations.

2. Speed Highway Act 1

320px-SonicGenerations_SpeedHighway.jpg

Another Millennium Era Song that got thrown into the Techno Machine.

1. Crisis City Act 1

320px-Sonic_classic_crisis_city_act_1.pn

I never thought they could take music from Sonic 2006, put it in the techno machine and make it sound like this.

1. Sonic Unleashed (HD Version)
270px-Box_141916-hd.jpg

As some people already know, I really like Sonic Unleashed and the music is just one of the many reasons why.

However, instead of splitting levels by their Day and Night music, I will rate both together for a particular Country's levels.

4. Windmill Isle (aka White Island) Day and Night

350px-Windmillisle.png350px-Windmill_Isle_Night.png

The Day Act feels and sounds nice as Sonic runs through the coastal city of Apotos.

The Night Act tunes sound like you're in a spy movie as you climb and smash your way to save Tails.

3. Cool Edge Day and Night

350px-Cooledge.png350px-Holoska_Night.PNG.jpeg

The drums, guitars, and other instruments create nice sounds during the Day as Sonic runs over water and ice.

Then the Night Act drops this bass and funky beat as Sonic carefully climbs his way to the Gaia Temple.

2. Jungle Joyride Day and Night
350px-Junglejoyride.png350px-SU_Adabat_Night.jpg

The Day Act has this techno thing going as Sonic blazes through the water, jungles, and ruins.

The Night Acts have these violin and string instrucments playing a slower version of this island like music.

1. Arid Sands Day and Night

350px-Aridsands.png.jpeg350px-Shamar_Night.png

When I first saw the Shamar Trailer, the first thing that caught my attention was the music. I'm not sure what instrument is playing during the Day Acts but I love it.

I also freaking love the saxophone in the Night Acts.

Oh, and Casino Night is excluded as well as it's not really a real level.)

Day 23 Challenge: Top FOUR zone MUSIC for each of your top THREE Sonic games
22/30 Challenges Completed

sonic-colors-banner192068.jpg

3. Sonic Colors

  • 4. Terminal Velocity: I love how the tone for the music played here is completely different from the usual upbeat music that you mostly been listening to earlier in the game. The music played here is quite serious, and it keeps pumping you up even as you run away from a black hole.

  • 3. Aquarium Park: Pretty much the water version of Dragon Road from Sonic Unleashed. I really love Act 3 because of that nice beat it has going at the beginning.

  • 2. Sweet Mountain: Quite a yummy and delicious song that is quite enjoyable. This song also really match well with the level itself because the music alone makes me want to eat lots of food.

  • 1. Planet Wisp: Truly a beautiful song for a place that was once completely beautiful before construction and destruction came. The music for Planet Wisp is smooth and calming, something I really like, yet makes me completely angry at what Dr. Eggman has done to the Wisps and makes me want to help the Wisps out even more.

sonic_generations_banner.jpg
2. Sonic Generations

  • 4. Planet Wisp: I really love both versions for this one, but the classic version really takes the cake for giving me a nice Sonic CD bad future vibe.

  • 3. Seaside Hill: Love how Ocean Palace music was mixed into Seaside Hill music in the modern version. The classic version is also pretty cool for a nice remix on Seaside Hill alone.

  • 2. City Escape: The party classic version is just awesome. It always usually have me jumping around when listening to it. The modern version is quite great, and I like the extra lyrics added towards the end of the song.

  • 1. Green Hill Zone: I'm a lover of Green Hill Zone through and through, and the classic and modern versions both did Green Hill Zone glorious justice.

500px-Sonic-CD-Banner1-600x310.png
1. Sonic CD (Japanese Soundtrack)

  • 4. Collision Chaos: Past/Present/G&B Futures, though I really have to give it to the Good Future the most because of the peaceful shopping mall vibe it has. Goodness, I think I'm starting to cry...

  • 3. Tidal Tempest: Silent and peaceful... The Present/Good Future  versions just makes me want to float down a stream of water and forget about all my worries in life. The Bad Future version makes me think of a polluted water place that can never be saved.

  • 2. Quartz Quadrant: Determination... That is what I feel when I listen to the Present version. I feel determined to take on everything Dr. Robotnik throws my way because I know I'm getting closer and I have the power of time on my side. Though, I must be quick because Amy is waiting for me... The Good Future makes me realize that I'm getting closer and closer to finding Cosmic Eternity, and that when I find it it'll be as beautiful as this song. Bad Future gives me that nasty rushing vibe. I'm on my last leg and I'm about to lose it all. No matter where I turn, Dr. Robotnik and his badniks are always there about to wipe me out forever. Quite a serious vibe I get from the Bad Future version, honestly. I listen to the Past version and I feel like I have been taken to a whole new environment that gives off a funktastic feeling of joy, yet I get the same feeling that Cosmic Eternity is near...

  1. 1. Stardust Speedway: GET DOWN! GET FUNKY! The Bad Future version gives me the that sweet funky feeling. I just know I'm about to get down and funky during this race with Metal Sonic. I step to the Present version and I'm taken back to a city that is filled with funk in the air, and people dancing all around because they have no worries in life. Go with the flow is what this city is all about, and that's the feeling I like. I step to the Past and get a more relaxed funky feeling, and I see the Present people ancestor's dancing their worries away. This is where it all started. I step to the Good Future and it's so peaceful. It's a new advance funky version of the Past and Present. You can just see how the future people in this city have continued to grow and evolve. They follow the rules of everything will be okay in the world, so just party and have a good time. The people are free in life, and I love that feeling the Good Future gives, so I start to dance.

Well, that's it! Now, time for that lunch break!

Day 23: Top four zone themes from top your howevermany games?

Game #3: Sonic the Hedgehog

#4: Labyrinth Zone - Despite the horribly tense fight to not drown on this stage, I find this track so catchy I always seem to be humming it.

#3: Scrap Brain Zone - Rhythmic and slightly sinister, this tune is pure head-bop material.

#2: Star Light Zone - A beautiful track for a beautiful zone.

#1: Green Hill Zone - Predictable, I know, but it's so upbeat and just... fun to listen to!

Game #2: Sonic Generations (HD)

#4: Rooftop Run Act 2 - Fun, catchy and fast-paced enough to make speeding through Spagonia again supremely enjoyable.

#3: Seaside Hill Act 1 - A suprisingly soothing track. It's a shame I don't like the level, because this music is goooood.

#2: City Escape Act 1 - Funky and speedy. Modern yet timeless. An awesome track for an awesome stage. Not only is it music to my ears (Ha. Ha.), with that Endless Mine sample, it's truly a track that respects the series it's in.

#1: Rooftop Run Act 1 - Hnnnnnng. One of my favourite tracks in the series. Enough said.

Game #1: Sonic Adventure 2

#4: Green Forest - This track captures the urgency of trying to escape the island while on the bomb's timer excellently, with its fast pace and speedy guitar riffs.

#3: Death Chamber - I once heard someone, when talking about this song, say "It sounds like Hunnid-P playing with his Sonic action figures". And it does. Hilarious lyrics aside, "Deeper..." is a brilliant instrumental piece that calms even the most frustrated of key hunters.

#2: City Escape - Dun, dun dun! Escape From The City isn't number one? What a shock! Yeah, as much as this is a sweet piece of auditory goodness, with its cheesy vocals and infectious beat, it isn't my favourite track in the game.

#1: Metal Harbor - "That's the way I like it!" is the tracks name. I think it's fitting -- this is how I love my Sonic music. Unexpected but lovely combinations of instruments (brass and guitar, anyone?), an awesome intro and some superb, energetic guitar work make this fantastic to listen to. I can never get tired of this track. I'm in the middle of chao farming on SA 2, and I run Metal Harbor to get chaos drives; I've run it about 60+ times now and I'm not tired of the level, or this song, yet.

Honourable mentions:

Grand Metropolis

Security Hall - I'm A Spy

Dry Lagoon - Bright Sound

Power Plant

Chemical Plant

Windy Valley 1

Windy Valley 3

Ice Cap (SA 1) [snowboarding section]

Flying Battery Zone

Aquatic Ruin Zone

Metropolis Zone

Emerald Hill Zone

and many more (because, honestly, there are too many to list)

Day 23:

Sonic Colours:

Tropical Resort: I think they nailed the theme here. It's really theme park-y and gets you in the mood for the game. The guitar work is damn good and I just love to play the stage with this track in the background.

Sweet Mountain: If my ears had taste-buds... This track sounds bloody brilliant. When you've got giant donuts to loop-de-loop, wafers to smash through, Ice cream everywhere, and this is what music would be like... They nailed it again.

Planet Wisp: This zone had a change of pace for music. It welcomed the change. It was relaxing, the piano foreground music was a nice piece and I love how it just blends into the level as you play it.

Terminal Velocity: Running down a giant space elevator shaft... On the run from an exploding theme park... This is the kinda music you want playing. Fast-paced, guitars, love it.

Sonic Unleashed:

Windmill Isle: Nice music, fast paced for the day, very fitting night music as well. The track became part of the level for me. Sets the mood

Rooftop Run: The day track... I love it. All the instruments work well together, bringing a track that just fits damn well.

Empire City: Saxophones. A blissful instrument when done well. This track has them done well. Love it.

Jungle Joyride: It goes well with the level, all the right stuff going on in the track... Great.

Sonic Adventure:

Emerald Coast: beach theme, great Beach theme. It's funky. It works with the environment and it's kinda relaxing.

Speed Highway: Funky, Groovy, all that nineties stuff is incorporated into this great tune with nice guitars too. I also love the 'At Dawn' track too. It's really fitting for dawn...

Lost World: It works. It does it's job and it's got the temple theme down good.

Windy Valley: It's got a good theme going and it's relaxing a bit too. Really enjoy it.

Sonic Generations:

Green Hill: Great homage to the original track with contemporary updates. And Modern Sonic has all that jazzy stuff... It's great.

Chemical Plant: Not a lot to say for Classic, but Modern turned the track into something else completely. It's funky as hell. I love it.

City Escape: Classic of course having a really good classic Sonic vibe to it, especially with it's remix of a certain track we all know by now I'm sure, and Modern Turing it up again and blasting out a groovy tune with nice pace.

Rooftop Run: I know I mentioned it for Unleashed, but Generations did it for me all over again. It's got all it's instruments working together great and it really is a great little piece. Seriously love it.

So, this is a long question, which is why I plan on...uh, keeping it short. So let's just crack on with it, eh (note that the tunes are my top four, but themselves aren't ordered).

#1; Sonic 2

Ah, Sonic 2, it's a classic. Obviously, music that shows up here will inevitably be on other people's lists. Oh well.

1. Aquatic Ruin Zone; I really like the atmosphere on this one. It doesn't feel like action, it feels more like you're sailing through the sky across sparkling lakes (which...you can do in this level. Go figure).

2. Wing Fortress Zone; It's definitely not as urgent as other end-game level themes, but it makes up for that by sounding powerful and almost triumphant. It's basically a musical cheer, but more grandiose.

3. Emerald Hill Zone 2P; I'm not particularly fond of the main version to be honest, but I do love its multiplayer counterpart. It's so bouncy and cheerful that it's great to have when you're having a throwdown with your siblings.

4. Metropolis Zone; For a mechanical end-game tune, it's very perky and catchy. I can make up lyrics over it that aren't dissimilar to Kylie Minogue.

#2; Sonic Heroes

Whether you love it or hate it...I don't particularly care. But I'd say it overall had a really good soundtrack, which is why I own the OST of it (it's the only Sonic game I have the OST of).

1. Bingo Highway (remix); Some OSTs of Heroes came with a remixed version of this, and I just love it so much. Keeps to the spirit of the track while adding in new twists.

2. Mystic Mansion; If you want a song that conveys the level theme perfectly while sounding smooth, this tune is a good pick. Incorporates spookiness while keeping a great melody.

3. Bullet Station; Reminds me of something like Mission Impossible for some reason. Definitely echos the whole infiltration angle the story went with. And it's super rocking to boot!

4. Lost Jungle; A great demonstration of musical ambience. Through its instrumentation and rhythm, it conveys the heavy jungle theming while sounding awesome.

#3; Knuckles Chaotix

A game full of hidden gems musically, and I was happy that this got recognised in Sonic Generations.

1. Speed of Sound; I think this is one of the best tracks in the entire franchise. Like the name implies, it sounds fast and goes well with the pace of Speed Slider.

2. Child's Song; The boss for the carnival-like Speed Slider is very eccentric, and the tune to go with it is no different. It honestly sounds like the jingle of a children's playroom or something.

3. Pendulum; Another boss song, but this one is definitely not childlike. It's fierce and punchy on the ears, making it sound threatening.

4. Destructive Power; This ups the ante on intimidation, sounding more devastating. It's a perfect compliment to the hellish visuals in the bad ending.

#4; Sonic Generations

Speaking of, this game has so many fantastic remixes, it was to choose (note that I'm not including remixes of music from prior mentioned games, for the sake of fairness.

1. Rooftop Run (Modern); A light and airy remix which conveys the original tune while incorporating the celebratory festival mood of the level redesign in Generations.

2. Speed Highway (Classic); Very fun, and plays with the idea of "retro" by making it more akin to the 90s music scene as opposed to aping the classic games in style.

3. Crisis City (Classic); Not one you'd expect from me, but this remix makes the original (forgettable) tune into something more...epic, I suppose, and with more memorable riffs throughout.

4. Big Arms; Not something really mentioned often, but it's just about the best boss remix across both versions. It is so much of a fantastic jam to blast out.

#5; The Mario and Sonic series (Vancouver Wii, Vancouver DS and London Wii)

This'll be different to most people's list, but I think I can pull a spectrum of tracks out from here.

1. Polastraits; A genuinely beautiful song for a relatively peaceful and serene overworld hub. It's a shame this one is overlooked since a lot of people don't recall Vancouver DS.

2. The Dream figure skating remixes; Both the Mario and Sonic versions mash up the tracks to great effect, and give them some pizazz that befits the dancy environment.

3. Ski Cross; A very unknown track. Despite its simplicity, I think it's a pretty sweet track, it's definitely perky and energised.

4. Athletic Quiz; No, you're not going to really notice this one at all. But when you've played it to death like I have to wring every piece of info it holds, it's nice to have a tune that doesn't get sickening after a few rounds.

And that should be it.

Crusher you must really not want me to live long through this, phew alright here goes:

My number first up is SONIC UNLEASHED

In no particular order, these are my top 4 songs from this game:

1. Egg dragoon, if there was any theme in the game that I could say was the most epic in the entire series, this would probably be the one, honestly this theme sets the mood for the final battle with eggman so well that it hurts and the atmosphere and franticness of it all brings it all home in what is possibly the best eggman boss theme in this entire series.

2. Chun-nan night, words can't express how much I love this theme and how charming it is, going through chun-nan while beating up monsters to this is definitely pretty sweet.

3. Eggmanland day/night, sorry if its cheating but since both of these technically do play in the same stage it makes sense right, anyway I really love the feeling of this song, its like the epic finale that you have been waiting for throughout the whole game and it gives such a massive since of urgency and danger as you go along this stage.

4. Rooftop run day, this one is kind of tied with cool edge a bit but i'll pick this one since its the one that creeped into my head first, I always liked rooftop run not just because of how cool the stage was but because of the theme accompanying it, I mean just listen to this, its just wonderful and amazing how well the insturments go together in this piece and it truly makes you feel like your going through a foreign city at high speeds.

Next up SONIC GENERATIONS

1. City escape modern, what can I say about this theme that hasn't already been said before, its just candy to my ears everytime I listen to it. It was already great in sonic adventure 2 but this game pushes its awesomeness up to a whole other level, its the remix of city escape that I had always been longing for since even before I heard it I was already humming out how it would sound like if it would ever happen and i'm glad it came out this way. Plus, it gets points for adding in "it doesn't matter" into it, which is pretty much the best part in this already awesome piece.

2. Crisis city modern, I never thought it was possible to improve upon the original crisis city until I heard this song here, it perfectly encompasses the danger and excitement of the original crisis city while also making you feel like there is some despair here at this ruined city that used to be perfect and the violins in this song only help to emphasize it.

3: Crisis city classic, every coin has another side and crisis city is no different since the classic version of crisis city is basically at the same level as its modern counterpart, it has the same feeling that the modern version has but with more of a rock and roll vibe to it and it works so well for a stage like this to the point where you'll be humming this theme basically throughout the whole thing.

4. Planet wisp classic, alot of people don't really like this song or the stage much but I actually really like both, I love the somewhat techno vibe in this song and how it even has some very well placed drops in it and it surprisingly fits very well with the parts of planet wisp that you do go through with the little blue blur.

Lastly (and finally the least) SONIC LOST WORLD

1. Midnight Bayou (drums ver.), oh god the amount of love I give to this song is ungodly and probably one of the main reasons why I love the 3ds versions silent forest more, this song just hits all the right notes with me, it gets you pumped to go through this stage and has such a fast paced movement to it then gets to where the violin kicks in and gets to this very saddening but awesome melody that in some ways describes zor's personality and how sonic is feeling at this point with the loss of tails.

2. Dragon dance, I would be lying if I didn't say that this song is the most high octane and pulse pounding theme to accompany a stage with zavok as the end boss, this song really makes you feel as though your near the end and are about to kick the final enemies butt with everything you've got and flows nicely with the stage too (in the 3DS version anyway).

3. Sea bottom segue,  this is possibly one of the sadder songs in the whole sonic series, it truly makes you feel a sense of sadness at the events that are going on around sonic by the second time it is played in the game and is truly a sign that by this point things aren't going so well for the guy with having lost all of his friends and having no one to talk to anymore.

4. Eggman showdown, remember when I said that egg dragoon was the best final eggman boss theme, well here is the second best right here, this theme perfectly encaptures the final battle setting that you face eggman at and how the plot has been revealed up until now, it makes you feel as though your in big danger and that you need to hurry up and finish this guy so you can saver your friends (ironic since he's easy as heck).

Hoo boy. Very oddly specific and long-winded question. I'd do a Top 3 Games, but I honestly can't tell which of the 3D games I prefer,so it'll have to be a Top 4. Tracks are in no particular order because ARE YOU TRYING TO DESTROY ME MENTALLY?

=3 Sonic Adventure

Snowy Mountain, Ice Cap.   I love how serene this begins, and then the back and forth of the two guitars culminates in a great crescendo, but it still sounds somewhat restrained. The only sad thing is its easily possible to complete the section before you get to that part in the song.

Be Cool, Be Wild & Be Groovy, Ice Cap     This one is just a little bonkers, somewhat quirky. Everything comes together in a way you wouldn't expect, and then that slide whistle thing! Very fun.

Sky Deck A Go Go!     Mainly because its nice to have a bit of a rock out.

Red Mountain, the first area     I don't know what this bit is cooled, but I like the almost jazzy feel it gets close to. Not what I'd imagine for a volcano, but pleasantly upbeat.

=3 Sonic Generations

Green Hill Modern    A classic tune, and the brass instrumentation helps fill it out.

Chemical Plant Modern     Industrial Zone? Industrial Remix!

City Escape Modern      I was never a massive fan of the original, but this version is better in every way possible.

Crisis City Classic     I've never played Sonic 06, and never intend to, making this music the first actual "unheard" track of the game for me. And its very catchy, love the guitar in it.

...honourable mention for the whole Hub World and Casino Night.

2. Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Laser Orb Bonus Stage     I mentioned this earlier in the thread. That bassline.

Doomsday Zone     Yeah, its a boss zone, but it goes on for a fair bit, so I'm counting it. Even after the majesty of Big Arms, this somehow takes it to another level in an epic, end of the game sound.

Death Egg Zone       This suits the technological feat of the Death Egg far better than Sonic 2's version.

Ice Cap Zone      Because Ice Cap.

1. Sonic 2

Oh boy this is the toughest category of all.

Chemical Plant Zone           Very jazzy and catchy.

Mystic Cave Zone          Great instrumentation with this one, and the composition is somehow greater than the sum of its parts.

Emerald Hill Zone      A great introduction to the game, very poppy and positive

...Metropolis Zone      I guess its got a few similarities to Chemical Plant, but that's no bad thing.

I could easily have said Hill Top, Sky Chase, Casino Night or Wing Fortress on another day.

...also, been meaning to ask this for a few days now...Crusher, when the hell do you actually sleep?

Day 23

I swear I'm being punished for some previous life. Bloody hell, right:

Sonic Unleashed

1) Cool Edge Day - Really catchy and fitting. Real sense of adrenaline to it.

2) Rooftop Run Day- Cheery song that gives a sense of antic to the stage.

3) Jungle Joyride Day- Surprisingly simple for a final level, a slight bit of melancholy that hints at a plot twist coming up.

4) Windmill Isle Day- Bouncy tune  that sets off the adventure nicely.

Sonic Heroes

1) Grand Metropolis- Catchy and fits the futuristic theme.

2) Seaside Hill- Memorable and energetic.

3) Hang Castle- Rather eerie and plays up the sense of mystery.

4) Egg Fleet- Nice and epic as you blast through airships.

Sonic 1

1) Starlight Zone- Nice beat and tranquil, feels like a time for reflection before the final assault.

2) Green Hill- The music everyone knows. Catchy, memorable, it's a shoe in.

3) Marble Zone- Helps keep some level of excitement despite a slow level.

4) Scrap brain- A bit slower, menacing, fitting of a final zone.

Shit, these questions are getting harder. Okay, let's see if I can't get through this one...

Sonic Lost World

Desert Ruins Act 1: It has a Middle Eastern feel, but it also has that rock beat that Sonic is known for.

Tropical Coast Act 1:This one just fits the act it plays in like a glove. It's also a very relaxing track.

Sky Road Act 1: It sounds mysterious, but adventurous at the same time. I hope that makes sense.

Hidden World Act 2: I love Believe in Myself, and since this is an instrumental version of that song...

Sonic Adventure

Azure Blue World (Emerald Coast): I'm not sure why, but this song kind of defines SA1 for me.

Pleasure Castle (Twinkle Park): This one just appeals to me for some reason. I can't really explain it.

A Symbol of Thrill (Red Mountain): Not much to say here The reason I like this track is in the title.

Mechanical Resonance (Final Egg): You know, I wouldn't be surprised if Dr Eggman liked rock music.

Sonic Generations

Chemical Plant Act 2: The slowed tempo gives this act a unique identity of its own compared to Act 1.

Sky Sanctuary Act 1: It isn't too different from the original, but it manages to sound new at the same time.

Speed Highway (both acts): Do I really need to explain this? Just listen to that techno asdfghjkl...

Crisis City Act 1: It's kind of the opposite of CPZ Act 2, since it's the fast tempo that makes it unique.

There, I finally finished Day 23 of 30. Just one more week of this and I'm free!

Thought you could make me lose my place here with a question that take effort? OOOOOH YOU DOUBT ME TOO MUCH!

Well, allow me to begin...

3. Sonic Adventure 2

Well, it's the game that splits opinions whenever it's brought up, but let's focus on the soundtrack, for the sake of this question, shall we?

4. Rumbling HWY (Mission Street)

This track just makes me think of Tails, whenever I hear it, it's triumphant, but also kinda jolly. It's got personality, Tails' personality. I love the lead guitar here, just keeps the song rolling on, and the keys, the keys are what give it...a Tails feel.

3. Escape from the City (City Escape)

Oh, come on, how can I NOT put this one, it's one of the memorable tracks, you can't just forget about it. The catchy lyrics, the guitars, it all works, and that's what helps it along.

2. Mr.Unsmiley (Sky Rail)

Much like the number one spot in this list, I just love the driving rock of this track. It just keeps pushing, and yeah, this is one of my favorite tracks, from Shadow's stages anyway.

1. That's The Way I Like It (Metal Harbor)

Speed. Just pure speed, that's the impression this gives me, and I'm not very surprised at that. Senoue is a master at giving the feeling of that in his music, and this is the best example of such. Those brass parts too, so great...

2. Sonic Rush

Samples up the butt here, and that's the kinda music style I enjoy. Let's just dive right in, shall we?

4. Jeh Jeh Rocket (Huge Crisis Zone)

Good fun this track, love the nonsense lyrics that...I just don't understand. Nice use of samples here too, the little robotic sounds in the background help give this level it's feel.

3. Right There, Ride On (Leaf Storm Zone)

Ooooh yeah, this one, it's got what I like to call a curly guitar, you know, something that doesn't quite sound...real? It's a bendy sound...no?

2. Back 2 Back (Water Palace Zone)

Spin those turntables back indeed. Enjoyable, this, very upbeat, fast, atypical Sonic stuff really. One of the notable tracks from the OST.

1. What U Need (Dead Line Zone)

For all the bottomless pits this stage had, this track kept me going. It's also the menu theme, so...yeah. Not exactly what you'd expect for a final stage theme, but, y'know, I don't care, do you?

1. Sonic CD

Specification time, I'm doing the JP soundtrack for this, just to clear up any confusion. I like it slightly more.

4. Stardust Speedway Past

Calming, this track, really fits the...pre-techno setting, while still retaining that musical charm ever present in this stage.

3. Stardust Speedway Good Future

A nice contrast with the bad future this, works, also makes losing the bad future theme much less painful.

2. Stardust Speedway Present

This is the perfect stage entry music, it's fitting, really, the musical look of this stages just tell you what to expect, and this music delivers.

1. Stardust Speedway Bad Future

One of the few reasons I hate getting all the time stones before this stage is due to the fact that I can't listen to this. Heavy, menacing, heavily technical. Fitting for the penultimate stage.

DONE!

....yeah, I really like Stardust Speedway, I think it's an issue...

Question #23: What are your top FOUR zone themes for each of your top five/ten/three/etc games?

Dr. Crusher...

You.Are.Despicable.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles

79NISCW.gif

1)Sky Sanctuary Zone

Now, this being one of my favourite levels in the series, this may come to no surprise.

Still, the music is what really adds to this level; a fitting track for something that can be considered breath-taking.

CJ8b2pr.png

2)Flying Battery Zone Act 1 & 2

The music makes me want to storm through this level; it makes sense, after all! You're on Eggman's flying fortress!

nwLUJZ4.png

3)Mushroom Hill Zone Act 1 & 2

Bouncy, Weird, Odd.

This is how I'd describe this track(s).

Mushroom Hill was such a weird way to start Sonic's new adventure.

fpcyj3j.pngqZ1mJeQ.png

4)Tie Between Ice Cap Zone Act 1 & 2 and Launch Base Zone Act 1 & 2

I can't really choose between these two musical behemoths...

One is, despite its repetitiveness, one of the most memorable track in the series, the other...is so catchy I always found myself humming it.

Honorable Mention: The rest of the OST, actually.

Sonic Adventure

sCZiW1B.png

1)The Air...for Windy Valley

I'm technically cheating, since this track was recycled from Sonic Flickies' Island but...it's so good in this context. Happy, cheerful and with just that little bit of funky, this is my favourite non-vocal track in the game.

Of course, if I have to choose an "original" piece, then...

2)Azure Blue World...for Emerald Coast

...I'd go for this one. Good gosh, is this track amazing.

They say that music in itself has no meaning, but I can actually SEE an azure blue world when I listen to this.

Also, my current ring-tone, for some reason.

3)Pleasure Castle...for Twinkle Park

Well, it's a theme park: what better track than one that suggests such a place?

Usually, whenever I listen to the tracks of other "Casino / Theme Park" levels, I can alwyas catch some kind of frenzy and madness between the notes.

Dunno why, It's probably because I know that Eggman is running the joint...but in this particular case, all I can hear is "have fun!"

4)Crank the Heat Up!!...for Final Egg

You're on Eggman's turf, now. The robotic, industrial, frenetic theme of this level seems to suggest this message. And considering how this level is designed...this is not that far from the truth.

Honorable Mention: Tornado Scramble 1 & 2...for Sky Chase

Sonic Adventure 2

b5LC5fO.jpg

1)Escape From The City...for City Escape

Now, this how you start a game.

This music makes you want to run, run, and run. Then again, you're escaping from the army so...

This theme returned in Generations but I'm not a fan of the Classic Version...I like the original piece WAY more.

2)That's The Way I Like It...for Metal Harbor

Now, SA2 is full of pumping music.

Here, you have a frenetic catchy tune mixed with something that reminds you that you're still in a harbor. I don't know how to explain it...music is not my forte, you see.

3)A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup...for Pumpkin Hill

You know me, the fighting freak Knuckles,
And we're at Pumpkin Hill,
You ready?

Oh, sorry, were you saying something? I couldn't hear you over the catchiness of this song!

I have always found its title strange, though. Why a soup? Oh, well, moving on!

I ain't gonna let it get to me, I'm just gonna creep,
Down in Pumpkin Hill I gots to find my lost piece.

4)Crush'em All...For Weapon's Bed

I'm a fan of the shooting stages. Heck, I wouldn't be against their return, actually.

Well, I wouldn't be against the return of the hunting levels either but...that's beside the point.

What I wanted to say is that, despite Cosmic Wall being my favourite Eggman level, this one is not that far from that position. The title says it all: you're Eggman and you have to crush everything in sight. The music seems to...cheer for the villain, if that makes any sense.

Honorable Mentions: Soarin' Over Space...for Cosmic Wall, Vengeance Is Mine...for Radical Highway, Rumbling Highway...for Mission Street, and Keys The Ruin...for Pyramid Cave.

Question #23: What are your top FOUR zone themes for each of your top five/ten/three/etc games?

 20110906025940!Sonic_Heroes_Artwork_-_Lo

1.  Grand Metropolis - Simply love the song to pieces because it's from my favourite Heroes level for one, but it just screams futuristic to me with how it's played, it's also incredibly soothing on the ears and even if it's a bustling, non-stop city, it feels like the characters are high above all the commotion and it's just calm.

2. Final Fortress - Dark, brooding and hella hype, it's the perfect iteration of what I think Eggman's final gauntlet would be like, it's just a dark and bleak song, no rays of sunshine, no happy go lucky music, this is Eggman's ultimate challenge, and by jove he's going to make it hard for you.

3. Casino Park -  Catchy, poppy music that literally sounds like you're in a Casino, it's hard to explain but the music has this way of making you feel like you're part of a giant game city, the effects and popping just really add to the playfulness of the level, I also like how it goes back into reverse before it repeats, as if you've pulled ball launcher pin on a pinball table, like here we go again!

4. Seaside Hill - Great guitar riffs, and a perfect opening stage song, very calm but has it's rock elements, also very exotic sounding, perhaps one of the better tracks in the entire game for leaving a lasting impression.

1. Molten Mine - Pure and utter perfection, it's adrenaline pumping, grandiose and seriously majestic with heavy guitar elements and amazing brass band support, it's just perfect for it's represented stage which is all bout an abandoned village in the path of a volcano, very amazing song.

2. Misty Lake - Atmospheric, and down right beautiful for an opening stage, it's magical sounding and the violins are gorgeous and really add to the world you've been thrown in, you can tell it's from a land of legends and dragons, it's very knight-ly sounding and I love it.

3. Faraway Avalon - Another fantastic rock and violin combo that works in pure harmony, it's also adrenaline pumping and gets you hyped up, but you immediately relax when the violins kick in, such a double edged sword this song is, but it's also incredible.

4. Great Megalith - This song sticks out in my head from how the music is delivered, it's very grand and in your face, it totally feels like a battlefield song, because it's just that and it works well as a battle song as you run through grassy plains between an advancing army.

Sonic_Unleashed_Logo.png

1. Rooftop Run Day - HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG, BEST LEVEL. BEST MUSIC. BEST ERRYFING. The music in this stage literally makes you want to BOOST and RUN as fast as you can through the level, the guitars and violins yet again make a good combination, I love when it goes into the second verse where the song changes up into a chilled out version (often when you're running up a corridor too) and it's just an amazing song and I love it hng.

2. Dragon Road Day - I like this song because of how catchy it is, it also sticks to the level's Asian theme well and creates a song that also makes you want to go fast, the main verse is the best part of the song.

3. Jungle Joyride Day - Not much to say on this one, I just love the feeling of urgency you get with this song, it's also tropical sounding and by the time you get to the ruins section it makes it feel like a lost civilization with how the song changes.

4.  Skyscraper Scramble Day -  Very hectic sounding and incredibly American/Urban/Big City, I simply love the beat and the Jazz implemented with the Saxophone, its very grand and compliments just how big the city is.

1. Metal City - Futuristic and catchy beat, there's not much to this song like, at all. But it's still pretty addicting even if it's mostly just background noise and electro, it just compliments the sound effects from your board well.

2. Egg Factory -  Very deep and urban sounding, fits the metal works location well, sounds like a busy factory that's loud! Love the beat too, it's so typically Eggman.

3. Sand Ruins -  Love the main verse beat to this level, very Egyptian sounding and works with the theme of the level well, it also makes it sound very...Sandy? Like sand storms and stuff, it's got a catchy beat to it.

4. Splash Canyon - Love the drawn out effects in this song with the various drum beats, very chill music that makes me think of water works too, that's one thing Sonic Riders nailed, Music that honestly sounded like it fit with the locales in the game.

440px-Sonic_Rush_Adventure_logo.svg.png

1. Sky Babylon - Seriously, the best song in this game, it's very catchy and I love the Asian flair to it when it breaks into the main verse, it also sounds like you're going up and climbing higher as the song plays, which ironically the game has you doing in this level.

2. Coral Caves - A very tropical sounding song that's pleasant on the ears, it's also catchy as fuck and fits it's location perfectly as under sea caves, it has distortion effects that echo which give you the feeling that you're in cave systems, it's just upbeat and cheery and I love it.

3. Machine Labyrinth - Very flat at first but builds up into a catchy, lovely song that makes me smile and bop my head to the beat, it yet again fits the locale of chained factories and metal works together really, really well.

4. Plant Kingdom - Not much to say on this one, just a sweet and catchy opening song, that sounds like a song more so from the first game, than it's sequel.

Question #23: What are your top four zone themes for each of your top three games?

Jesus, what a question, man.

Well, let's see...

HLOKmcu.png

1- Classic Speed Highway: Amazing remix like most, if not all the music in Generations. I like the techno or whatever feel this one has.

2- Classic Crysis City: Another classic remix that I like. It has this chaotic feel to it that fits the level perfectly, more than the regular or modern version in my opinion.

3- Modern Chemical Plant: This was supposed to be For True Story but then I noticed the "zone themes" part on the question. Oh well, this one's good too. It's a rock remix of Chemical Plant, what's there not to like?

4- Classic City Escape: Endless Mine, dude. The song on its own is amazing too, naturally. The auto-tune part also sounds good for once.

    l2ayss8.png

1- Ice Cap Zone: Classic. When you think about the soundtrack of the classic games, Ice Cap always pops up. It is just perfect.

2- Flying Battery Zone: I started liking this music when I heard it remixed with one of Michael Jackson's songs, Smooth Criminal. Nowadays it is one of my favorites.

3- Lava Reed Zone: This one makes me feel all nostalgic and shit. The problem is, I played Sonic 3 & Knuckles for the first time when I was like 12.

4- Endless Mine: Does this one count? I mean, it technically is a full zone, the difference it that it is a multiplayer only zone. Either way, really beautiful.

1- Final Fortress: Now this is what you call a final zone theme. Intimidating, I like it.

2- Bullet Station: Now this is what you call gnarly. The stage may not be anything special at all, but the music is fucking extreme.

3- Casino Park: When I think about the casino type of zones, this music always pops up on my head. It's so flashy and calm at the same time.

4- Mystic Mansion: Like Flying Battery Zone, I started liking this music after hearing a remix, this one. Well, sue me.

Day 23: Top 4 level themes of your top 5 games

tumblr_lsbfy6UEsO1r0n79p.gif

Here we go!

31-sadvance1_logo.png

#4: Neo Green Hill Zone
Very relaxing, standard opening theme. Personally prefer Act 2 for it's more variant sound.

#3: Ice Mountain Zone
Ooooh, the ambiance of Act 1 is to die for. It's so brilliant in it's simple, yet calming atmosphere. Act 2 provides a more upbeat and energetic mix that's perfectly compliments Act 1.

#2: Angel Island Zone
I forgot about this stage when thinking up my favorite level tropes, but it fits perfectly in the 'Aerial' theme. This stage theme gives a very adventurous feel, like standing on the edge of the world.

#1 Egg Rocket Zone
Lemme tell you a bit about Egg Rocket Zone.... Tight as fuuuuuuck! This theme and the level itself is the most unique stage in the entire series. The sunset in the background, the view of the sky passing by as you climb into the atmosphere all accompanied by this incredibly atmospheric theme. It's Buetaful.
Cosmic Angel sucks though.

#4: Green Hill (Classic)
I was never that big a fan of Green Hill Zone. Don't get me wrong, it's super awesome, but much like Super Mario's main theme, the original is just kinda old hat. Generations on the other hand is awesome. Updates the theme perfectly, while still keeping that classic feel with an extra twist. Next to SA2's rendition this is by far the best remix of the classic tune.

#3: Rooftop Run (Classic)
This song raises the roof like it's no one's business. So jumpy and energetic but not so all over the place like the original. I love a song with a poppin' beat, and do this got a pumpin' beat? It doooooo.

#2: Water Palace (Modern)
I literally could not believe how turn't up this song was when I first heard it. The original theme from the DS; complete ass. The CD remastered edition; complete ass. The Classic "remix"; Complete Ass. It baffles me how awesome the Modern remix sounds when the original sounds like dying cats.

#1: Sky Sanctuary (Modern)
Confession time, I never thought much of the original Sky Sanctuary or it's theme. Generations single handedly put the stage and it's theme among my favorites in the series. And unlike most of the other modern themes in the game which have a "fast" version for when you're boosting, this stage's fast version is equally as awesome as the standard version, if not better. Love the energy, love the added chorus line, this theme may easily be among my top 5 favorite songs in the entire series.

#4: Green Forest
Love how intense this song is, and does what this game's soundtrack does best, make songs that are tailored to the story rather than the stage itself. I love how this song completely throws away any sense of theming to the stage and instead has song that's made for the actions happening in the story; a tense escape from an exploding island! Makes this song very unique to the series.

#3: White Jungle
Dat R&B Tho. I like the way it keeps that sense of ambiguity to Shadow's character, back when his allegiance was more questionable. This song accompanies, what I consider, a very defining moment for Shadow as a character, when the chips are down and there's no time left, we get to see what he's really capable of.

"Shadow Don't Make Me Upset" or else I'm gonna die.

#2: Metal Harbor
Describing this song begins and ends with "Jun Senoue's Guitar".

#1: Mission Street
fite me bro. I'd argue the guitar work in this game is best served smooth, and boy is that gutiar smoooooooooth. It's no Prof. Omochao, but it's easily the next best thing. btw Prof. Omochao best song 10/10.

#4: Ice Cap (Snowy Mountain)
Best part of SA1 was how atmospheric it's soundtrack was, and as far as level themes go, you can't get anymore atmospheric than this..... well, actually you can, and that's why this games OST is Cool, Wild, and Groovy.

#3: Lost World (Jurras- er Tricky Maze)
As an angry Australian once said "The atmosphere is like a foot-thick sheet of whale blubber draped over your head and shoulders" and the theme for Lost World brilliantly captures the feeling of exploring the ruins of a civilization lost in time. It has that aura of mystery and mystique that few other games in the series have managed to capture. It's one of the reasons this game feels more like an experience rather than simply a game.

#2: Speed Highway (At Dawn)
It's At Dawn, what more do I need to say, just listen to it!

#1: Emerald Coast (Windy and Ripply)
Like a mishmash of all the best elements of the last 3 songs, this song's got atmosphere, energy and a hell of a lot of charm. It's the epitome of the OST's greatest strength; cheerful and energetic themes. I can be in any mood and still enjoy listening to this song because it evokes such a wide range of feelings. Adventurous, Action packed, Calming, Cheerful, Cool, etc. By far one of the best songs that perfectly encompasses Sonic.

#4: Hydrocity Zone Act 2
Truth be told I wouldn't rank Sonic 3's soundtrack very high. It's real cool and all, but few tracks really stood out to me. Hydrocity Act 2 though still manages to be a really cool theme with a sick beat and amazing melody. Very smooth, and very groovy.

#3: Chrome Gadget
Yeah that's right. I'm with Sean on this one, the 2P themes are way better than the regular stage themes.

#2: Endless Mine
Yeah I'm going there. Endless Mine has such a great melody and calming presence.

#1 Azure Lake
Hi, I'd like to talk to you about Jesus. After Alex Kidd died for our sins, Sonic was placed inside the Genesis, and on the 3rd day, the greatest song in the series was created. The rhythm, unreal. The melody, Godlike. This song. is. Gooooooooooooooooood. Best song 10/10 and if you don't think so you must be stupid!

Also, thanks Crusher for making spend 2 f**king hours typing all this s**t.

This... Seems like it could take a while. I don't have a while. So here's the abridged version!

In no particular order:

Sonic Unleashed.

1, Windmill Isle act 2. Beautiful, fun, energetic.

2, Rooftop Run act IDK. The day version. Whatever. Same reasons as Windmill Isle. Probably the best song I've ever had the pleasure of listening to in a Sonic game.

3, Mazuri's day stage. Something Savanna act whatever. Again, brilliantly energetic.

4, Cool Edge day. Same reasons. All of Unleashed's music was really punchy.

Sonic Adventure 2.

1, City Escape. I'm... Not sure that one really needs explaining. It's City Escape.

2, Metal Harbor. It rocks. It just rocks. Awesome song. Favourite of Adventure 2. Still replay the stage to hear it every so often.

3, Aquatic Mine. Chill, mellow, and yet still interesting enough to keep you awake.

4, Pumpkin Hill. Can't get enough of Knuckles' cheesy rap. Tempted to say Meteor Herd for this one, but I spent far more time in Pumpkin Hill looking for those things that make your Chao's feet invisible, so it's stuck in my mind.

Sonic Heroes.

1, Bingo Highway. At least, I think it was Bingo Highway? It could have been the other one... No, it was definitely Bingo Highway. That's the problem with Heroes. The levels are so similar...

2, Ocean Palace. Much more interesting than Seaside Hill. Grander, more adventure-y type feel.

3, Frog Forest. Beautiful. Just beautiful.

4, Bullet Station. Just kinda cool, really.
