Sonic Lost World - Previews

Wisps are not needed. They went back to their home planet, they have no reason to be back in the series.

Sega, I hate the Wisps, why do you always make me hate you?

Yes, they aren't needed. That doesn't mean they're shitty.

Honestly guys, I don't get the hate for Wisps.

They were fun gimmicks... that DIDN'T break the flow (apart from Cube and Frenzy). They kept the game going and they made the stages more expansive, more fun, more new-everytime-you-played-the-level.

imo, I really wanted the Wisps to be back.

wait, YACKER NEEDS TO BE HERE. AAAAAAH.

Oh and, this lost world could be just part of the planet kidnapping Eggy was doing so yeah.

Says who, exactly? Who says they have no reason to be back?

This isn't about what it needed than it is what will make the game fun, and while they could have been done better in Colors I don't see why they should be denied coming back if there was a chance that they could be re-tooled, repurposed, and overall done better than how they were implemented in the past.

Eggman somehow captured the planet with a tractor beam. Who says there couldn't be another way (or heck, even the same way) for them to come back?

Adding to this.

It's the /second/ time only. Not 1000000th time. Sonic Team won't make them come in every single game, ugh. And I am very sure here they'll be 100% optional due to the so many paths we can take all the time... or so it's implied.

And honestly, it might get stale if they keep doing it. But I know they won't.

Technically the were in Gens, and the implementation in that game generally left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth can't say I blame them.

My point still stands though, Wisps were a genuinely good gimmick imo in the Sonic series and it stands to reason that they could have plenty of room to improve and be even better.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't mind them staying around Earth's orbit in their home planet as a new moon (lol), or having a lot of them permanently immigrate to Earth.

It would kinda add to a more cohesive worldbuilding to the series...if they bothered caring about it (tho time will tell for that part).

Guys. These are NOT wisps... They are... WHISPS... *DUN DUN DUNNN...*

I'd expect something like that from a preview. Only Sonic, no story, Sonic rescues animals and chases Robotnik.

Yeaaaaah. Revolutionary.

Oh, and completely new gameplay, but that's pretty minor, so

I saw the gameplay already.

I just got a confirmation of what I was expecting and what I told you about yesterday. SEGA doesn't want to improve the franchise. They will change it to the point it is no longer Sonic just to get more money from that.

Even the badniks. In classic games they looked more like your enemies. Here they are somewhat cute and that's not how it was supposed to be. Oversimplification. I don't like this, but I guess I've talked about all that more than enough for you to understand my worries and reasons for being so disappointed.

Speaking of gameplay. I thought people just wanted more levels like Seaside Hill from Generations with 3D gameplay and many paths. That would actually be a natural progression of the series but it's SonicTeam we're talking about here. Just as they start perfecting a gameplay formula, they screw everything completely and start from scratch.

I like how you say Sonic rescues animals and chases Robotnik like if that's the case, there'll be no story.

Well, HELLO! WELCOME TO SONIC. That's what we are all about! Sonic's the hero, he chases Eggman.

The gameplay is freaking revolutionary, it's like, a lot like what we've all (or at least, me, Azu, Dio and a few others) have been asking for. Not exactly but it could be AS CLOSE as we can get.

If all you care is about DEEP COMPELLING story, extra characters but not the gameplay, you should be watching a movie really.

And like Alexander said, yeah, they could use the gamepad and you could choose 5 platforms to bounce on, or to fly from here to there kinda thing. It'd be nice if they kept the wisp as once you collect them, you use them when you want to and not immediately.

And yeah, what ChaosSupremeSonic said would be really nice if they did that.

Said when talking about the game most resembling Saturn era Sonic in a loooong time.

Regardless I am still a good bit worried about this whole Galaxy-esque layout thing going on, and verrryyy simplistic design. I'm willing to accept it for a one-time-only thing, but I'm really hoping the whole game isn't like this, nor any game after this. The game's actual mechanics sound flipping beautiful, though, just saying, and I still can't get over it.

Also, somehow I feel like if the spindash is really just a reskinned / repurposed boost then it'll probably work as a spin-dash drift as well in the same way you drifted on the same button as boosting in Colors.

ArtFenix, a couple of pages ago I asked you what exactly is that you see in the trailer and screenshots that you think it doesn't look like Sonic to you.

And you always answer with stuff like what you posted above, "Sonic is just chasing Robotnik again and saving animals."

Also, I don't know how you can say that there's no branching paths when A: We haven't even seen the leves, and B: Various people have already pointed out how they might be branching paths in what we seen.

I want to believe that what we've seen is just First Level Syndrome and not a tacit revealing of a simplistic game with a lacking difficulty curve. They've got a lot of good stuff going on there, so I'm hoping that they'll start being a bit more braver and unforgiving with the level design.

Yeah, because the enemies were never cute right?

200px-Motobug.png

Enemies were always supposed to be goofy looking. The official art looks like it's drawn in crayon.

Hell, even Eggman wasn't supposed to be serious.

Saying that these are your "worries" implies there's uncertainty. To me, it looks like you're absolutely sure that this sucks, and it's taking the series backwards, and that you hate it.

Maybe you did. I, and many others here, have been asking for something new.

Just as they start perfecting a gameplay formula, they screw everything completely and start from scratch.

Just... no block platforming please.

Sonic never really was about that.

But seeing the waterfall part, I think there will be little to no block platforming here...

Wait, if we are uspide down, and if the water still flows up...

Question: Exactly how does the stuff we see for the first level imply that they will change it so that it is no longer Sonic? I mean, how does that happen when we literally have a new Green Hill Zone with Flickies like we did in Sonic 1?

I'm personally sort of surprised that it took them this long before "improving the way Sonic controls" became a major focus.

Answer: It doesn't.

Well I for one don't see a single cityscape, spacestation, ancient supernatural evil, jewel theives or any guns or psychics from the future, so it very clearly can't be a Sonic game.

Don't forget casino.  Can't have a Sonic game without compulsive gambling.

Well those ideas don't exactly hurt being in a Sonic game, but it baffles me how we have a Green Hill Zone #123289042 with a new take and it somehow doesn't look like Sonic. I mean, Green Hill Zone practically symbolizes Sonic down to its very name!

Look, I will be a spearhead and champion almost any sort of concept if you can fit it into the series, but when it comes to something like the trailer...I just don't see how you can say it isn't Sonic.

ArtFenix, a couple of pages ago I asked you what exactly is that you see in the trailer and screenshots that you think it doesn't look like Sonic to you.

I just don't see Sonic in this. I see Mario. Look, EVERY major site that posted news about the game use two words: Mario Galaxy. That should mean something, right?

Also, I don't know how you can say that there's no branching paths when A: We haven't even seen the leves, and B: Various people have already pointed out how they might be branching paths in what we seen.

There are branching pathways from the looks of it. Thing is, it's not refining further the Unleashed formula which was almost perfect in Generations. It's starting all over again from ground up. It's like..Imagine that you are drawing a picture. What if at some point you dont like a part of the image? What would you do? Well duh! You take an erazor and just eraze the part you don't like and CORRECT it making it PERFECT in your eyes. What SonicTeam does in this case is burn the paper with the picture and start drawing something else.

Dude, Sonic started off as a character made out of simplistic shapes.

I marked the key word. Franchises usually evolve, not go to the very beginning after evolving into something more modern and more refined.

Lol and people say I'm living in the 1998. You must be living in 1991 then.

Saying that these are your "worries" implies there's uncertainty. To me, it looks like you're absolutely sure that this sucks, and it's taking the series backwards, and that you hate it.

I think yes, yes, you are right. That is what I feel. Not "absolutely sucks" part though...yet.

Green Hill Zone practically symbolizes Sonic down to its very name!

So going by your logic we make ANY level structure, give it textures of Green Hill and that would make it green hill)) Haha, no. This looks like retextured mushroom kingdom.

Literally just copying this from a status:

It's almost like I'm looking at a Sonic Heroes level.

So the levels we know of so far are Wind Hill and Desert Ruins?

Wind Hill?  Ruined Deserts?

Wait.

Is this game a compilation of cut content from old games?

Oh, and your signature:

To me that looks like the spin dash is indeed a repackaged boost.

Actually yeah, pretty much. That's kinda why people call Seaside Hill and Ocean Palace Green Hill 2.0 despite their differences, dude.

note to self: stop posting in a completely sarcastic tone remy - it doesn't translate over the internet .

I agree with you on the trailer for the record. It had fakkin flickies and checkerboards for god's sake. It's the most sonic thing that ever soniced... But i guess this franchise has been going on so long that being Sonic means different things to different people.

To me that looks like the spin dash is indeed a repackaged boost.

Wasn't it always? isn't the boost just a repackaged instant spin dash? The Cycle Continues.

Speaking as an artist, I throw away and give up on tons of shit people would consider complete artistic wizardry.

Regardless, I don't see new gameplay as an inherently bad thing simply because the last iteration was good. I grew up with the Classics and loved them, but I loved the Adventures too and still do in many ways because they still gave me enjoyment despite any disparities with past games.
