Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing

Doctor MK

Recommended Posts

Time for a discussion point methinks, who is everyone's favourite character(s) so far?

I've primarily used Sonic so I'm quite keen on him but I also like racing as Shadow, Knuckles, Ulala and Billy Hatcher too. I like all the other characters as well, but haven't had as much time with them to form a full opinion of them yet.

What about you guys?

I play as Aiai mostly but I also play as Amy as after giving her a test run I found I could win first place alot with her. When I do come first place online on Xbox 360 and PS3 people always call me a fag down their headsets, its so funny.

You cant use All-Star Moves online, you musnt be aware of the Ryo Forklift pre-order gift Europe got and Australia soon too -

http://blogs.sega.com/sonic/2010/02/01/wouldnt-it-be-great-if-you-could-use-ryos-forklift-normally-in-asr/

Yeah, I heard that Ryo Forklift is treated separately from Ryo Motorcycle but from what I remember, the music in the game changed to the ASM theme. He was trailing at the back so I don't even remember too well but I'm pretty sure he was on bike when we started. I would've remembered if he started the race in a forklift.

Might explain why Wii Speak isn't supported, hm? ;)

Although, I would've appreciated text communication and even an "I'm ready to play" button. Not just automatically ready as soon as you switch your character.

Yeah, I'm sure I've heard the announcer swear too. I can't remember exactly when it happened or what he said, but I do remember sitting up in my chair thinking "wha? did he REALLY just say that?"

So he either did swear or we're both just going mad :P

I could've sworn I heard him say 'Damn' at one point.

Also, I've been frequenting AiAi now. I love playing him online, especially in Treetops. I love that course. :D

I don't mind the announcer either. He's better than Omochao from Sonic Riders and I'm a pretty big fan of that game.

BUT CREAM IS BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUILDING MOMENTUM!!!!!!!

I'm always playing as Beat, Akira & Jacky, Opa-Opa and Alex Kidd. I thought I'd use the Chu Chus alot but their vehicle feels too floaty.

If there's one thing I <3 about this game it's that all bikes work in the same way rather than the horrible bikes that can't drift properly in MKWii, I hated that so much, all of the awesome looking bikes suffered from it as well >=(

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to ask, does Forklift Ryo have an ASM? If so what is it? Still haven't gotten online to download mine...

EDIT2: Still wanting on those car porn wallpapers, specifically one of the DeLa Custom GGs car.

I don't own the game but a friend I talk to online in the United Kingdom who has him tells me he does this pose and then jets forward and after the starting animation being different, there on after is Ryo's regular all-star.

Ryo Forklift does have an All-Star Move, its basically the same as when you use Ryo Bike's All-Star Moves.

Cant find any video footage.

Wow. I love how all the footage was taken from trailers and the 360 demo. And nothing from the final game.

Hmm I really need to play this game online sometime, I haven't got around to it so far due to playing a lot of grand prixs and missions so far (so as to improve mah skillz :P).

What's the Wii version's online like? Aside from the inevitable friend codes, of course?

I score this review 0/10 and an L for laziness :P

God, that reviewer sounded like he had a tit in his mouth

I was just about to comment on his accent! He sounds like someone from an early 90s kids show.

OMG that has got to be the funniest review I've seen in a long time!

And I in no way mean that in a positive sense :P

Whoo, bit of a random post, but I just managed to go through the entire mission mode again (while getting all AAA ranks except that Bonanza Monkey Ball one) and managed to beat the final mission (with an AAA rank) without any game breaking glitches occuring this time. :D

I've unlocked all characters and have been trying them out on each of the tracks.

To win the Grand Prix Cups, i mostly used Knuckles.

On single races i find myself playing with Knuckles, Ulala, and B.D. Joe. I don't really like Knuckles or Ulala's All-star move though, that might just be me...

But i guess i'd have to say Knuckles is my favorite/most played as character!

Great Game, I Absolutely love it

I'm wondering if S0L can tell us what these weapons from the early early demos are:

grappling hook??

picture1wm.png

erm... Gobstoppers in a toy capsule?

They don't resemble any of the current weapons :-/ ???

First one looks like a grapple hook of sorts? Maybe it shot ahead to the player one rank ahead and pulled you toward them.

The other one looks like a Monkey Ball Ball. It's a ball containing all your favourite Monkeys- in a ball!

:o Get yourself online, its awesome. I've played all versions online and the Wii's online is just as smooth and just as fun as the other consoles. Plenty of people online so you'll always find a game and you get in a race alot faster than Mario Kart Wii.

Oh and like Mario Kart Wii and DS friend codes are just for your friends, so if you want to race random people online on ASR Wii and DS you can. Unlike Mario Kart though match making is done with a lobby system so the host picks the track and settings, so you dont get to vote like in MK. If the game had Wii Speak support then you could have discussed with the host and politely ask/vote verbally for a track you want like you can on the Xbox 360/PS3 versions. In between matches you can change your character in the lobby, another thing unlike MK. The races run nice and smooth with no bothersome lag

So yeah, its a blast and I hope we can have some races sometime soon B)

A dude on the Shenmuedojo forums was digging around in the PC version and found a mention of Toe Jam and Earl. He didn't give further details as to what such a mention was, as he was more interested in Ryo, but it was an interesting find!

I wonder if this is S0L's surprise?

Also, I swear I'm not making this up, but I think I heard the announcer swear. It was during a particularly brutal exchange and he bellowed "Yeah! That's the shit we came to see!" I could have misheard, and if anybody else has heard this quote with another word in place of "shit", I'll admit it was probably my mistake... but has anybody else heard it? I was in shock, and I know 'tis practically impossible that I heard it, but seriously, that's what I heard. It was during the final race of the final Grand Prix Cup, the biggest Final Fortress course (can't remember the specific name yet), on Beginner difficulty.

And here I thought I was going off my meds and hearing things. I also heard something pertaining the word 'ass' and Sonic going super.

If it is true, then I hope that with the next game that Sumo won't bow to censorship pressure. That announcer is six kinds of nuts, and I like it.

"Eggman pushes his big red button!":lol:

Hey, he can push my big red button all day and make me explode!

Cramming so much innuendo into that line, now can I have the announcer position? ;)

I hope S0L read my questions last time, because they apparently were posted at the wrong time in the middle of a big argument. If not, I can post them again if he wants to read them.

Hi to S0L and the Sonic Stadium community. I've been a longtime, erm, observer (I guess... there seems to be a lot of us) of this thread and have really enjoyed using it to follow the developments of the game. I've also enjoyed S0L's inputs on the different aspects of the game and his funny comebacks he's given towards all the nitpicking the game's received.

Anyhoo, I read the whole debate that went on about whether or not the Wii could receive DLC, and I had a very obscure idea for how DLC could be implemented into that version of the game since I know many (myself included) will be buying the game for that system. I would like to add that I'm not trying to complain about the lack of DLC on this system since I know that Sumo has considered every possible avenue and simply can't because of the lack of technology with the system, not because they don’t want to. I'm still very satisfied with the roster (only really obscure character is the ChuChus, and I know I'll wind up liking them anyway) and can't wait to race with every character.

Anyhoo, my idea was inspired by the game Rock Band and how there are track packs supplied for the game, y’know, those discs that come with a bunch of extra songs for your game. It may be a bit of a stretch, but maybe Sumo Digital could provide S&SASR media packs which provide various DLC characters and tracks for the price it’d cost to buy them on the PS360 versions (and extra for the costs to manufacture the discs if it’d have to come to that). I think it’d be cool. If something like this is possible, I can even see little billboards being put outside of game stores advertising the current media pack for the game with pictures/art of the characters and tracks so all the passersby can see.

So yeah, I don’t know how character models and tracks compare to multiple songs (I’d assume that the former takes up more memory), but if there’s some chance this can happen I think it’d be just awesome and just may inspire other games in the future limited by the Wii’s storage limits. Other than that, my only other crazy idea was to have special ASR themed SD cards sold in retailers with the added DLC as a bonus, but I think that’s a bit too farfetched. ;P

I would also like to take the time to say that you and your team have DEFINITELY made the Sega crossover and Sonic racer (DOUBLE WIN) that fans have wanted for so long. YES, it bears many similarities to another notable racer that will remain unnamed, but I think the game also stands on its own as a quality arcade/kart racer and crossover game. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get a hold of my own copy yet, but I’ve been reading tons of feedback and have seen all the footage I can of the game and I know I will be very, very pleased. It looks fun, fast, zany, and accessible, and it looks like it has plenty of extras to keep people playing for a while and a very balanced yet roster of characters representing a wide variety of franchises.

I’ve been trying to get as many people as possible to buy it for whatever platform they own, and have been able to grab the interest of a few of my friends and even a Blockbuster employee, so hopefully this game will sell and retailers will get more copies in stock. Can’t think of much else to say at the moment, but perhaps I’ll write a detailed review for it or something once I get it. But yeah, great job on ASR and thanks for taking the time to answer fans’ questions and take their requests (and their crap =P) for the game. Can’t believe just how much you put into making this game (OMG @ the 21 hour workdays) since some could’ve just thrown it together with like mostly Sonic characters or something, but I look forward to seeing all of the creativity and time spent fine-tuning the game pay off. ;D

Lol, long post is long… sry, I’m very expressive when writing. ^_^;

PS: DLC requests, cuz I just had to (even if the Wii doesn’t get it, one of my PS360 friends might get the game for their systems):

1. NiGHTS

2. Ristar

3. Team Chaotix (lol, it’d be cool to see Vector driving, Charmy riding in the back, and Espio in shotgun and throwing ninja stars for the All-Star Move)

4. Toejam & Earl

5. Vectorman

6. Gilius

7. Rouge the Bat

8. Amite

9. Blaze the Cat

10. Silver the Hedgehog

This is pretty much everything I can think of. ^_^

And of course, I’d like to see new franchises represented in the DLC stages. =D

EDIT: If NiGHTS becomes playable, it'd be awesome to have the Outrun flagman return for some sweet breakdancing moves! XD

If Silver was DLC, it would be amazing and hilarious at the same time if he drove this:

Oh man, this game is so awesome. However, being the over-analytical Sonic fan that I am, I am still going to complain that the majority of the Sonic crew still suffers from Derp Derp Syndrome - but aside from that, I'm totally diggin' this game. I'm trying out the Mission Mode now, and it's a blast! Mission 23 and the rest of the attack-bassed missions are particularly awesome, they're minigames all in their own.

Mission 31 is horrible, though. I'll never forgive those ChuChus for that. It was a senseless Egg Pawn massacre!

ARENTCHOOWURRIED

I got my Silver License and am up to mission (I think)47; The Horrible Cup- and boy, they picked an appropriate name for this. I really can't get the feel for Zobio and Zobiko. I think my problem is that they take too long to build up turbo while drifting, and I suck at the HOTD courses.

I've gotta say, when they said this played like Outrun, they weren't kidding.Thats another stark difference between this and Mario Kart: the way the cars drive.

In Mario Kart the vehicles drive like...well, carts. They aren't sports cars, they aren't monster trucks. Their cards, and they drive like it.

In this game, all the cars feel like some variation of the Outrun cars in Outrun 2. You've got a little more control in ASR (for one, in Outrun you can't drive backwards. In this game you have complete control like in Mario Kart, so turning and control in general feels a little looser), but regardless, the drifting is basically right out of Outrun, except with a cue taken from Mario Kart: the afformentioned charging and boosting during the drift.

If you try to play this game like Mario Kart, you'll fail horribly. And vice versa. The two games feel very different.

Oh, and MY top characters for DLC are:

1. Ristar

2. Lagi and Lundi from Panzer Dragoon

3. Vyse (Skies of Arcadia)

4. Astal

5. ToeJam and Earl

6. Hornet (Daytona)

7. Red (Gunstar Heroes)

8. Sketch Turner (Comix Zone: he can ride a paper airplane)

9. SEGATO SANSHIRO

10. NiGHTS (Classic design this go around)

And since any DLC will need a Sonic character to sell....

11. Chaotix

Really, most of these characters are either arcade, Master System, or Dreamcast. Theres a pretty big dirth of Genesis/Saturn characters.
