Sonic-related pet peeves?

Whether it be among the fanbase or in the main continuity, there are many things out there that will most likely make you cringe. Some things among the fanbase might be those recolored fancharacters or the idea of Shadow being Sonic's brother. In the main continuity, it might be extremely cheesy one-liners or bland plots.

...I have a feeling this topic is going to fill up quickly.

Well, many of the lines in various Sonic stories make me cringe. Part of the reason I can't stand to watch the entireity of several 06 and SA1 cutscenes. Or that one CGI Space Scene in the SA2 Hero Story "Don't touch that lever! Aahhhhhhhhhhhh!"

The fact that they think the apparent lack of characters somehow equals out to the series being better because of said nonexistence of characters, has no idea what makes a great Sonic game, nor has any idea how game design works in general.

Tails Doll's memetic status. The curse joke isn't even all that interesting, further reinforced by Tails Doll itself being uninteresting roster padding in a terrible racing game, but it's gotten to the point that I can't tell whether or not people seriously think that thing's actually a good character or not. Some of them undoubtedly do, and I simply can't empathize at all. There's absolutely nothing about the Tails Doll to even like in the first place. It just exists. :|

I don't flat-out hate CG covers myself, but I do agree. SA2B's cover is still one of my favorite covers to look at.

I personally don't think Modern Sonic characters look all that good hand-drawn but that's just me. :\

I agree with this, it makes me rage SO EFFING MUCH when they call them "Coins"

Outside from that, the stuff that make me cringe the most are some Sonic Adventure 2's bosses intros ("A G-G-G-GHOST??") and Chip's dialogue on the Dark Gaia boss fight in Sonic Unleashed HD. But they aren't really stuff which makes me go insane or anything like that.

EDIT: Oh wait this is fan stuff? D: People asking for a SA3 mostly.

- People who assign the age of the series to Sonic himself "Oh the Sonic series is 21 so Sonic himself is 21 in-game!" How does this make ANY logic sense!? Besides, Sonic's officially confirmed age in 3 official sources is 15. This is outright said by 1. The Sonic Heroes instruction manual. 2. Sonic's bio on SONIC CHANNEL and 3. Sonic's profile in SatBK's Gallery.

- People who try to assign Chip a species. No, he isn't a "Flying Dog".

- Sonic Chronicles' pitiful lack of research in it's codex and it's slaughter of Sonic's character. It wouldn't have taken more than five minutes of Internet research into SA2 to know that Shadow did not team up with Sonic in SA2 to take down Eggman or more than five minutes of research into Heroes to know that the team Amy leads is "Team Rose" and not "Team Amy". And don't get me started again on how Sonic's character was horrifically mutilated in the dialogue options.

Then again, pretty much everything about Chronicles peeves me. From the batshit insane characterization to the screwing with continuity to the incredible level of laziness, broken and screwy battle system and characters, ugly visuals and soundtrack which has no redeeming features.

- It's "Rouge the Bat" not "Rogue the Bat"

- People who hail Classic Sonic as a holy being that the uncool power of speech would ruin despite it always having been a part of him even in the Classic era and then go on to bawwww about Modern being a monstrosity who has cringeworthy mannerisms and GREEN EYES. Newsflash Classic-hailing Modern-haters/Modern-hailing Classic-Haters, it's the same character.

Seriously, probably worn dry topics on Sonic that I've heard a million times. While it's cool for newer people that haven't been in such a thing with it yet, I can't stand reading it any more, XD. Only so much "06 is ____ in my opinion"'s and "Is Shadow a good character" discussions I can handle before I completely lose it XD.

I guess something else that stems from this is my own wild hunger for more main Sonic games to hype about. It's the only thing that "gets me off" in a sense when talking about Sonic any more LOL.

On the subject of covers, I think all of the box art would be better if they were unique pieces of art for the sake of the cover instead of stock art slapped against generic or overly-Photoshopped backgrounds, which is another one of my pet peeves in general: I miss the situational art we used to get during the Adventure era, as well as Uekawa's more wilder and noodlier drawing style. As he's shaped up his forms over the years, he's lost a bit of charm in his work; Most poses seem more reserved and sterile, and it's a sticking point with me about Yardley's work too. Not that they aren't great artists, but something about their current work never feels pushed enough and thus lively enough for me.

No, warping this intrinsically awesome quote to snark at the Sonic series because the later games after the Classic era aren't as critically acclaimed is not witty, clever or sensical and never will be. It just proves that you took the quote out of context or did so in a vain effort to snark at the series. And even if Modern had some kind of weird unexplained awareness of the reception of his games in the real world, it still wouldn't be relevant to the point he's making to Classic; That he's in for some awesome adventures, cool new friends and exciting experiences.

When people use alternate continuities as evidence of things in the games. Granted, some continuity fans do it less than others (haven't seen anyone call Amy a lesbian based on Sonic the Comic yet :S ), but it's still annoying when anyone does it.

And another one: People who fail to recognize the difference between a foot race and a vehicular race. The complaints about Sonic being within the same state as a vehicle get on my tits. "He's faster than car/bike/board/boat/train/dirigible so why doesn't he just run?" Because running on the track is against the rules of the race? Because running is a completely different skill than driving and thus the former has no bearing on the latter? Because Sonic wants to drive and you can kiss his ass??? I mean, I don't understand what is difficult about this to comprehend. Wouldn't you look at someone funny if they were offended that Usain Bolt enjoyed kart riding at Andretti simply because he's one of the fastest human beings on the planet? Well there you go, that's why I want to e-smack anyone who points out the obvious. :|

I don't think anyone seriously took it out of context. People use it cause it's ironic. Even as a fan of most Sonic games I couldn't help but roll my eyes at that line when I first heard it cause it was just setting itself up for the obvious jokes.

This one has always bothered me- Eggman hasn't used animals to power his robots for years now. He did so in S3, S&K, the Advance series, Rush series and most notably the Adventure series with zero plot relevance, but why did he suddenly stop come Heroes? It kills off a bit of character for the series if you ask me. Colours did it nicely by having him use Wisps instead, but then even in Generations he didn't use them.

The fan nickname for Eggmanland, Crimson Carnival. I mean, it's a somewhat... interesting (and alliterative) name, but seeing it touted as "officlal" on the Sonic News Network honestly bugs me. Don't know why; it just does.

People who brings up the Sonic Cycle for every piece of Sonic related game news even when it doesn't fall under it. It was extremely annoying during Generations or pretty much any Sonic game when it seems like every preview/artical brings it up at some point to try and be clever or funny.
