Generations 3DS Chat - Oh look guys new rules (p.58)

Lots of people I've heard say 'if you want Ice Cap in Generations just play Holoska in Unleashed', or that other ice levels compare etc., but I gotta disagree... It's not just about the snowboard, Ice Cap had some awesome platforming moments. I think it was the first time they perfected that 'everlasting slopes until you find the bit to jump off' trick, and those swing platforms were the best use of the spin dash I've seen in the whole series. Then there were the piles of ice blocks you spun through to shorten them to jump on, the falling icicles making platforms, the way you go in and out of those icy caves, the slingshot platforms, the dangerous underwater sections, and the atmosphere of the course... The only one any similar in design would be Sonic Advance 1's ice level, but that one was quite boring in comparison.

Normally I really dislike ice levels in games, even Sonic, but I loved Ice Cap.

I think when people say, in the context of Generations, any Ice level could replace Ice Cap, I imagine they mean they could insert moments from Ice Cap into the level like they did with Hydrocity in Seaside Hill.

I certainly would be dissapointed with an Ice Mountain recreation that didn't have either a snowboarding section, floating ice blocks on water underground, or as you said, those fun speed-powered swing lifts.

There's also Blizzard Peaks and Crystal Mountain from Rush Adventure and Rivals respectively. Blizzard peaks even has a board and I think Crystal Mountain has a bobsled/mine cart

Oh yeah. Forgot about those.

Interestingly, Crystal Mountain could very well be Ice Cap. :o It's part of the snowy mountains of Onyx Island, which is future Angel Island.

I'm sure they would add train parts to the level. Why not? It's one of it's most memorable things.

I meant the actual boss fight and theme, even if they were to copypaste C.Sonic's Sunset Park, Modern Sonic's act would probably have the train around the end/middle.

I really wish I could be more excited for this version, really. I don't think it's going to be a bad game by any means, I'm just not excited. Half of the game is literally stuff I've already played (Though I am intrigued by the idea of playing formerly 3D stages in a strictly 2D plane), and the other half just looks...ok. And the level choices are questionable at best. I mean Apatos? Really? Was there anyone seriously requesting that?

They should have had the stages backwards, like you start Modern and work your way backwards. Could have ended with Scrap Brain then :P

And stuff like Tropical Resort would be justified, that is, unless they're gonna make it more high-octane than it originally was. The wisp choice certainly sounds more interesting than it was in Planet Wisp.

What if you still have to use Burst in like 80% of the level?

Yeah, you played Tropical Resort on Colours DS without any Wisp powers on your first run. Not even boost. Still though, I can see them being abused in this version.

Man I wish they did had a Desert/Canyon and a Ice stage in this version, to make up for not having one in the Console version, it doesn't really matter what game stage. At least theirs Casino Night to make up for a Pinball stage.

Their hasn't been any footage or screens of any underwater exploration yet, which is a little sad at the moment. I'm hoping that either Emerald Coast or Windmill island has some underwater segments in them, I mean their both PERFECT for it.

Windmill Island for one can pretty take some elements from Water Palace from Rush, and it's pretty obvious why (their both based off the Mykonos Islands).

You never had to.

That's not what I mean, buddy. I mean, what if it ends up like HD Planet Wisp, with all the Spike abuse? :S

But I'm optimistic that it won't happen with Tropical Resort.

I bet there'll be no underwater in the game at all. From being in many levels per game... to one level per game... to none, ever. That is the road of gimmickification.

I've been doing some thinking, and I think that at least Emerald Coast will have water segments, they're probably going to try to make the levels 2D versions of the original with some added areas. And I think they will at the very least incorporate that little spot where you can drown in segment two of the original.

The japanese website shows gameplay of the Green Hill Zone and it looks really good actually (to me at least). Much boosting and holding right, but... I dunno, I just like it. And it seems faster than the other Gameplay videos.

http://sonic.sega.jp...ns/blue/#action

...it looks good. 0-0 Sucks that it goes by so fast, but good.

It actually looks better than the last footage of Green Hill we got, I surely hope they're doing this for the other stages to, and not merely focusing on making Green Hill look nice

And why they no update with the last 2 levels, I want confirmation on whether that is in fact Water Palace or Apotos

I would really love some more direct-feed gameplay footage. ESPECIALLY Emerald Coast.

I just noticed the collection section on the site

I spy the Goal Chest from Rush Adventure. Such a subtle reference but I find myself loving this so much <3

EDIT: So I just plugged in the info into Google translate, and this may be an error, though according to the translations the missions will cost 100 play coins

Also there'll be a history mode that shows games from each year of Sonic's history

Well that's SOME more handheld representation other than the Burst Wisp.

So is Apatos the last level to be revealed?

Was there a SINGLE handheld level chosen for the game?

Tropical Resort. And since You can get the classic games on the Nomad, they count too!

technically tropical resort, and Apotos could be Water Palace (though the chances are quite low) if that counts
