It truly is no better time to be a Sonic collector. So many niche characters getting their first shots at becoming plastic collectables, and now a certain sniper gets his shot! Today, at WonderCon 2024, Jakks Pacific has held a special panel revealing their future plans for the Sonic the Hedgehog line! All covered by the always wonderful Sonic Merch News of course!
This new batch of reveals definitely skew towards the Classic era, all to tie into Sonic Superstars. And with this most recent game, comes great new tie-in merchandise!
Most notably, the reveal of Wave 17, and Wave 18 of the 2.5 inch figures. The standouts are very apparent in this melting pot of reissues and new arrivals, as both Fang the Hunter and classic Badnik, the Ball Hog join the Jakks lineup!
This is the first time Fang has received a figure, let alone the fact that it is a rarity he gets any merch at all! Last time everyone's favorite one-hit killing megaboss got merch, it was all the way back with Sonic The Fighters and its plush line! The idea for a Fang plush was recently revisited again with GE Entertainment's iteration, making a total of only two officially licensed Fang toys... until now!
This isn't to discredit the achievement that is us getting the mighty Ball Hog though. Before today, this Badnik only had one toy to its name: The old Tomy figure released as part of the brief Sonic & Knuckles line. But now this time, it is sporting a pink paint job over the original's purple.
In terms of what to expect from the waves specifically, Ball Hog will arrive first in the Spring alongside Mighty, Classic Sonic, Shadow and a Neutral Chao with Wave 17.
Fang arrives in Wave 18 with a Motobug, Modern Sonic, Metal Sonic and a Flicky, releasing this Fall.
Speaking of Fall, that is hardly the only thing in the 2.5 inch line announced, for we also got a new playset to display your newly released Classic figures!
Behold, a Tornado set designed to be accurate to the Classic Games! Complete with the rocket engine, lights, sounds and even a build-in motion sensor, Jakks has really outdone themselves compared to their first attempt at a Tornado, released as part of the Sonic Movie 2 subline.
Moving beyond the 2.5 inch line, we also had updates in regards to their plush toys.
Going all in on the Sonic Superstars theming, Wave 11 of the basic plushies gives us all four of our fast friends forever! Classic Sonic, Knuckles, Tails and Amy!
We even see the return of the Die Cast vehicles! While most are reissues, keep an eye out for Wave 7's Sonic, as his car is now sporting the Mega Engine from Team Sonic Racing!
Unfortunately, the WonderCon panel didn't go into detail about anything from the 4 inch line, the rumored Modern 5 inch line, or anything from Sonic Prime. But the reveal of Fang, Ball Hog, the Tornado and many more toys more than made up for the absentees!
History has been made, thanks to the kind folks at Jakks once again! What are you most excited to see this Fall?
