  • Producer Toby Ascher Says Sonic Movie 3 "Takes A Lot From Sonic Adventure 2"

SA2 Battle DLC to be determined

The teaser trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had a lot of nods to Sonic Adventure 2. From the music that had a little of "Live & Learn" to the movie's logo, the game that Shadow the Hedgehog debuted in is clearly going to have some influence with this film. So, it isn't surprising that movie producer Toby Ascher confirmed exactly that in a recent interview.

The interview itself comes from GamesRadar, though it isn't strictly about the third Sonic movie. The Knuckles spin-off series is just days away from premiering, and it just so happens that Ascher is a show-runner for it. Nevertheless, Ascher couldn't resist saying just a little about Sonic the Hedgehog 3, saying that it is “probably the most exciting thing that we’ve done in the franchise".

Of course, it didn't stop there, and that's when he brings up Sonic Adventure 2. Ascher says that "it’s going to be this giant, fun, incredible movie that obviously takes a lot from Sonic Adventure 2 and some of the games that I know the core Sonic Team grew up loving". It isn't known what are the other games he's referring to, but it's safe to say that Sonic Adventure 2, since it was specifically mentioned and Ascher clearly says they took "a lot" from it, is likely the one that inspired them the most and what may get referenced quite a lot.

That all said, it really isn't all that surprising that this has happened. Sonic Adventure 2 is a very adored Sonic game, and it only makes sense that Shadow's big screen debut is getting inspiration from Shadow's video gaming debut. It's all the more exciting with the confirmed news that Shadow will be voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves. So, there's a lot to look forward to in this movie!

Still, it will be a while before we can see the film for ourselves. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 doesn't premiere until December. We haven't even really seen much of the movie, if at all, via trailers yet. So, there's still plenty of time to see just what is in store for Sonic, Tails and Knuckles when the Ultimate Lifeform debuts on the big screen later this year.
