  • Sonic Origins 2.0 Patch Has Begun Rollout

    Patches now, DLC later.

Ahead of tomorrow's release of its Plus DLC, the 2.0 patch for Sonic Origins has begun to hit consoles. Players across multiple regions have already begun downloading the update, and our staff has been able to download it on Switch to confirm; however, it was not available on Steam at time of checking.

While this update does include preparation for the Sonic Origins Plus content, the DLC isn't available yet and cannot be downloaded. What you will get out of the update though, are other core updates such as the changes to the "roll lock" in Sonic 1 and 2. A DLC notification button will also appear within the Museum screen that will take you to the platform's store.

Why did they think locking Knuckles in CD out of base game was a good idea? You need the plus dlc to play as him

He wasn't locked out. As a port of the 2011 remake, he was never in there in the first place. He had to be added to it.

I meant why not include him in the 2.0 update instead of having us pay for Knuckles in CD alongside the plus content

    The answer isn't a secret.

But really, why screw up the emulation of games you've emulated fine before? Why choose those games to begin with? Why lie about remastering prototype music tracks for a game when you're just going to port unfinished version unaltered from an early prototype? Why port mobile games from a decade ago with worse graphics, audio and performance than they originally had and also cut out the original development team of those games until the last minute?

Like at a certain point the questions surrounding this game kind of become meaningless to ask.

Greed. Also shills the DLC content more.

But yeah, It’s not like it’s Ray or Mighty being added to the game. I suppose there is work needed to be put in to get him to function inside CD considering he wasn’t in the ported Mobile titles? But then why not do that alongside all the other random challenge modes?

It’s annoying to me how overpriced the DLC feels even with 12 GG games. In actual fact, I’m slightly irked that I’m being charged in the first bloody place.

Going onto the eshop I can see Sonic Origins Plus (full game) contains all the previous content (including the additional digital deluxe DLC upgrades which you still have to download separately) & now the new Plus DLC, all under the unbrella for £34.99.

I paid £36.99 for Sonic Origins only last year. And the Plus DLC seperate is £8.99. Do you see my issue? I will have paid out £45.98 for this collection (if I continue to buy it digitally). What’s the value in this for me apart from feeling a bit ripped off for purchasing and supporting them last year? Nothing.

Sega have also now listed the original version Sonic Origins at a (only slightly)  lower price for £27.99 & with the premium and music packs still at the same price. Why? This is not only confusing to look at on the eshop to determine what you are buying, but last years version is completely irrelevant now.

*Sigh* it’s a shame as other than that (and handling of the main menus and character selections across the games) - I actually find this package to be the most definitive way to play the classics (officially).

It’s an excellent package that has been massively mishandled by the publisher.

Wonder how long it'll be until a full list of 2.0 changes crops up. I don't expect anything massive, but it'd still be neat to know exactly what all has changed besides the roll lock.
