Oh man, especially those! You named all the stages I hardly.... never play. I never liked them to begin with, never played them again.

I hate running on water, it's the worst thing especially with the really crappy drift. (First time I ever got an E-Rank was on Dragon Road, the song made it up for me, but never again!)

(Also like how you wrote Dragon Road as in the level, but the countries for the others. I don't like Cool Edge and Jungle Joyride was the worst!)

Yeah, that was completely my bad! I was kind of in a hurry. I don't know the names of the stages like I should though.

But! I'm also not too big on Jungle Joyride, but I feel like it has potential to be one of the best levels if you get good at it. c:

Umm, let's see here.

Carnival Night Zone from Sonic 3.

Oil Desert zone 2 from Sonic 4 Episode 2.

It would be easier to list the levels I like from Shadow the Hedgehog the game.

Casino park, Haunted Castle and the Special Stages  from Sonic heroes

Eggman land, Cool Edge and the Shamar stages from Sonic Unleashed.

Planet Wisp, Crisis City Modern, Shadow battle stage from Sonic Generations.

Ung, half of the zones/stages/levels in Sonic Boom are on my list.

The friend zone from real life. :D

If you're good at it and the frame rate didn't suck so bad.

Never fond of Sandopolis as a kid. Lengthy level, and the ghosts in Act Two creeped me out. Nowadays it's tolerable, though probably my least favourite level of the game due to it's tedium.

Sky Deck is probably the most broken level in Sonic Adventure, to the point the mechanics are barely playable and it feels like you're just glitching your way through, not very comfortable to do. I'd gladly take a Big level over Sky Deck.

I have to agree on the SA2 treasure hunting levels. While the SA1 ones were basic and usually patronisingly easy, they could at least be fun in layout and remained very fast paced. SA2 just added way too much convolution and linearity to be considered fun, and the crappy radar made them incredibly long to beat most of the time.

The Werehog mechanic wasn't a bad idea, but the levels did bring it down a LOT. Most of them just felt dull and repetitive, going on WAY too long considering the lack of unique mechanics per stage. The pauses for battle scenes got really tedious quick, and it was even more infuriating due to how often I got a Game Over, just because I had to spend maybe ten to twenty minutes doing the whole thing over.

I hate Casino Night Zone in Sonic Adventure. Knuckles it was OK but the others. Wow. It took my forever to get 350 rings in that level.

I admit CASINOPOLIS's ring system was an annoyance for Sonic (as exemplified above, I hate levels you're stuck on an errand loop for ages), but at least the actual sewer level was pretty fun, even if I didn't want to repeat it over and over. In which case, Tails' level was okay as well.

Really, it's about 100 times easier just going straight into the sewer. I can get games done pretty quickly by doing that.

- Eggman Land

- Mostly everything in Sonic Advance 2

- Rail Canyon

I used to be very intimated to do Death Egg Zone without a Shield, so If I lost it I would go Super

The one zone that I hated as a kid

Metropolis Zone (especailly act 3)

There is a lot of painful stuff in this zone, including the badniks in this stage. I can go Super Sonic if I want to, but going through this stage as Tails alone is worst (because he can't fly when you are playing as him alone in Sonic 2.) That's about it for this stage I hate.

Zones I hated as a kid....

Sonic 1

Scrap Brain Zone( Nuff said)

Sonic 2

Casino Night Zone in 2 players(imagine coming to that one section as a kid right before the end of act 2, being stuck in the MOTHER FUCKING PIT TRYING TO ESCAPE, YOU SISTER MOCKING YOU AS SHE HEADS FOR THE GOAL, THOSE DAMN BUMPERS JUST KEEP,GWWWWWWAAAAAAHHHH)

Chemical Plant Zone(could never get pass the megamock pit on both the bottom and top when it flooded then when I found the secret area, my problem from 6 to 9 years old was the boss area)

Mystic Cave Zone in 2 players(Imagine, your older sister is right next to you as you, playing as Tails, race to the finish, she jumps over THE PIT, due to the compress gfx, it's hard to see, you fall in the pit, in that time, your sister BLITZ IT TO THE GOAL MOCKING YOUR VERY EXISTENCE AND FAILURE, and all you can do is CRY....)

Sky Chase Zone(1. That is not a level, not for whoever is playing as Tails in co-op anyway, that is an auto scroll. 2. Calm before the storm bitches~)

Sonic 3 & k

Carnival Night Zone(Dat game breaking barrel tho!)

Sonic CD

Stardust Speedway Round 3( Always sucked ass on the race, so I always use to call my brother to do it for me, he's very good at it)

Mechanical Madness Round 2 or 3(can't remember) Good Future(A fucking MISSING platform makes the level unwinnable in the GF)

Conclusion: My sister was a HUGE bitch, and my younger brother, who is not only talented; artist wise and music composing wise, he also looks handsome, is taller, and more masculine than I am, used to always play as Sonic while I was Tails.....which was weird, guess I didn't like responsibility...*looks at his kid* Well that came around and bit me in the as

REAL Conclusion: I used to hate this levels, but now I don't....cause I can boss them around.

Casino Night Zone is one of my least favorite zones in Sonic 2. It feels really bland to me. There are so many things you can do that you don't have to do and which I don't want to do, you know? Also, I really don't like Sonic being "pinballed" around constantly. It works better in smaller quantities.

For me, I have my own list:

Sonic 1 (Genesis):  Scrap Brain, purely out of the necesity of being hair rippingly difficult

(GG/SMS):  Sky Base Act 1:  The worst possible combination between Wacky Worckbench and Starlight

Sonic 2:  Originally this would have gone to Chemical Plant with it's "Megatox Shaft" that the fans dread.  But now the title goes to the Death Egg, I died more times than I should have playing the Android version

(GG):  Underground Act 3, the squished screen does not help in the fight against the Doodlebot

Sonic CD:  Stardust Speedway Act 3.  I mean sure, this is also my favorite level because of Metal Sonic, but I also hate it because Metal almost always denies me a chance to beat him.

Sonic Chaos: Mecha Green Hill

Sonic 3:  Carnival Night Act 2. (cue Luigi death stare at the barrel)

Sonic & Knuckles:  Lava Reef Act 2, it's way too long

Sonic Adventure:  Hot Shelter as Amy

SA2:  For the longest time I was stuck on Security Hall as Rouge and Eternal Engine as Tails

Sonic Advance 2:  THE WHOLE DAMN GAME FOR ITS LUDICROUS METHOD OF ENTERING THE SPECIAL STAGES

Sonic Heroes:  Somehow, while this game is given a waaaaaaay too undeserved bad rep, I don't like the alternate Chaotix missions, the one in Mystic Mansion drove me up a wall.

Sonic Advance 3:  Cyber Track

Shadow:  Lost Impact

Sonic Unleashed:  Eggmanland

SatSR:  the fight against Erazor

SatBK:  The Cauldron

Generations:  Since I finally got the PC version, I now seem to be stuck on Seaside Hill thanks to a bug where Modern Sonic randomly sidesteps

Lost World:  I actually have nothing wrong to say about anything.

I hate Lava Mountain Zone 3. It's just horrible.

Yeah I know, it's not exactly a zone but SLW calls acts zones, so I think it counts.

I also hate Labyrinth Zone for obvious reasons.

Sonic never visits Hot Shelter.

It is one of my favorite levels overall though. As for a zone I hate, I guess I hate most zones in Lost World. But especially Frozen Factory.

I didn't mind any of the Hot Shelter levels. They were maybe a bit long, but they displayed the supporting characters gameplay at their fullest and had mechanics and obstacles to compliment them, rather than just being slightly retooled Sonic levels. I kinda wish they hadn't dumbed down Big's though. There's obviously this impressive puzzle involving the aquarium plug that got made redundant (it's still accessible though) and downplayed the larger platformer element of the level.

They did the same to Ice Cap and Emerald Coast, having this impressive area with plenty of exploration but Froggy is right in front of you anyway. You don't even have to find a boulder to break that ice, just jump on it, fish for Froggy, with the rest of the area meaningless. While I'm one of those that don't mind Big's fishing, it's annoying how diluted the actual levels are when they could have been decent to walk around in.

Cosmic Fall

After playing Shadow the Hedgehog recently, I discovered that "Cosmic Fall" is a real pain in the ass.  Not only does the level demonstrate how bad the actual platforming in the game is, getting the keys in this level is aggravating.

Well, at least we got a kind of amusing meme out the ordeal.  That's something right?

No?

Well crap.

I always disliked desert levels. Whenever I played Sonic 3&K I would've skipped Sandopolis if possible. Then Shamar in Unleashed, both day and night, ugh. Crisis City is one of the most uninspiring and boring levels ever. Marble Zone in Sonic 1. I don't think any of Sonic 1 levels are fast-paced, but Marble Zone feels the slowest and most boring.

While I admit the execution of many are kinda tedious (not big on the Pyramid Cave levels in SA2 either) I kinda like the concept and aesthetics. I would have liked to have seen how many of the 'lost' desert levels would have played such as Dust Hill or Desert Dazzle. Sand Hill also should have been a full level instead of a mini game.

Rail Canyon in Sonic Heroes. Grind forever.

Broadly speaking, I'm actually not a very big fan of the Sonic Unleashed day stages either. Lot of people rave about them, and playing them for the first time back in 2008 was pretty breathtaking (it's soooo faaaaasssst), but you quickly realise that the levels are like some sadistic memory game. Coming back to it after even a year or two of not playing the game is pretty uncomfortable, you forget about the level layout pretty quickly (which probably says a lot about their design) and forgetting to press the jump, slide or boost button at the right arbitrary moments can either break your flow, agitate you or simply kill you (I'm looking at you, Cool Edge).

Sonic Generations' rendition of Rooftop Run (Act 2) was infinitely more enjoyable than the original.

Planet Wisp (classic)

320px-PlanetWispClassic.jpg

Looks like a beautiful and peaceful world right? It is, when you are not playing it.

Let me tell you something about Planet Shit and yes Im going to call it that. This is a stage that is so difficult and so frustrating in design and concept that not even the person that posesses the most manly testosterone would figure out this stage in record time (unless you are one to look up the stages on youtube before actually playing them).

The first thing I want to ask before getting into this stage is.... out of all the stages that are more memorable in Sonic Colors, why pick this one? The 3DS version of Generations has Tropical Resort which for the game itself it is a iconic stage. Sweet Mountain and even stages like Astroid Coaster or Starlight Carnival are more rememerable and for a game that is hell bent on nostilga pandering, I would have picked the stages that were more memorable.

Anyway, back to this hell hole of a stage, the classic edition.  When you first start playing the stage, it runs smoothy right? Wisps dancing cheerfully in the background and beating up robots as you go. Even the spikes concept seemed OK at first, until you actually get to the core of the stages, which is mostly puzzles, puzzles and more puzzles. Now, I dont have a problem with puzzles in a Sonic game, I really dont. But when the puzzles seem all over the place and the fact that the spikes wisp starts to get slippery and it is the only way to grind on the puzzles, then we have a problem.

The spike wisp seems ok at first, however there are times where when you spindash it send you going backwards, plus you have to go through parts of the stage again. The wisp powerup itself is very sticky to where the moment of spidermaning the stage, you find yourself not wanting to come from the ceiling. There was a moment in the stage where you needed to hit a button to open the top level and because you were stuck, it was very hard to control where you landed thus missing a few times.

Now for the infamous part of the stage... the part of the stage that got me so fustrated it blew my goddamn tits off. The part where you have to figure out which gears open the top of the stage to offically see the fucking light.  There are 3 different gears and there are rockers shooting at you. it doesnt help if the powerup doesnt offer you protection from the rockets. You have to figure out which opens the top which you need to go on 3 of them. The thing is when you are on a gear and you open a lock, the gear itself will go back to its place once enough time has passed.

Imagine yourself trying to open a door, your a fucking wisp powerup that is sticky and slippery and you keep missing the gear or having to rework the same gears over again. Frustrating huh? This part may or may not take up a chunk of your time. It took up some of my time, yes it did. It took my 7 minutes to finish this stage and you need 6 and under for a S rank.

The best part about this stage, when you finish, you see a light shine and angels singing. YOU HAVE SEEN THE FUCKING LIGHT! YOU HAVE BEEN UPLIFTED!

Most classic Sonic stages are done in less, but this one is so blocky, so complicated and so fustrating when you are doing it that some had finished the stage in 15 minutes. So you have been warned, this stage is a fucking hell hole sent from the corners of Sonic hell to mess with unsuspecting humans.

Lost Impact in Shadow sure was something.

Who thought that a scavenger hunt in a.) A Sonic level, and, b.) A stage as needlessly large as this one was a good idea? The music was nice I suppose (probably the only thing that preserved one modicum of my sanity).

To be fair though, "Who thought ______ was a good idea?" could be applied to the entirety of that game, so whatever.
