Zones we hate

I love Hill Top Zone. Favorite zone next ot Sky Chase Zone. and to contribute here's my list:

1: Labyrinth Zone: For all of the reasons said. The shortcut in act 1 was hard to get to, but bypass most of the act.

2: Underground Zone: Stupid boss.

3: Bingo Highway/Casino Park: Long and boring.

4: Metropolis: It's Sonic The Hedgehog version of Heck.

5: Carnival Night Zone: Dang barrel.

6: Bullet Station/Rail Canyon: Always use Flight Formation

Zones that I hate? To name a few, only Wing Fortress, Ocean Base, Radical Pa- I mean, Train and Altitude Limit come to mind.

Why?

Because they're all reaaaaallly cheap.

Wing Fortress' Boss is pretty much why I hate this zone. It takes forever for me to hit the ray beam shooting thing without getting hit by the spiked platforms that you HAVE to use. Thankfully, there's a one-up at the pilot room and beating this with Super Sonic is a breath of fresh air.

Ocean Base's has that INSANELY annoying barrel...thing. You know, the one that fall on you when you least expect it? Those are a LOT worse than Carnival Night's barrel. Believe me.

Radical Train's conveyor belts really irk me, as do the scales and the mach speed section. Also, how the hell does Sonic fall off a loop? Like, really how is that possible?

Altitude Limit is just hell. Pure hell. The level design is chaotic, the enemy placement is nuts, the hang gliders are weird to control and there's just too many pits! I know, it's a sky level, but come on, we don't even need that many pits. Oh yeah, and the boss can go rot in hell for all I care, that fucking piece of shit does not deserve to live.

Marble Garden in Sonic 3. Difficult to isolate specific elements but as a whole its component shitty parts make for a glorious result of irritating, bland fuckery. Damn you Marble Garden, you asshole.

Oh, come now, Roarz, it isn't all that bad, apart from the length...and those 2 sections with the moving landscape...and a lot of the enemy placement.

Actually, yeah, it's pretty bad.

EDIT: Holy shit, I live near Roarz!

DEATH CHAMBER, DEATH CHAMBER, DEATH CHAMBER! Can't stand that level. I always start incredibly far from the emerald pieces, and the radar doesn't help one bit. It's SO easy to get lost in that level. The song is still my favorite of the Knuckles treasure hunting songs, though. "You're damn right Knuckles!" :P

If this had been not long after getting the game, I would have said Eggmanland as well. It is up there, but its definately not my most hated zone. The reason its still high up though was how long I spent on that level to get the S rank I needed to get all the achievements in the game. If you didn't have to fully restart each time you died, it likely would have been that bad there. It was nice to have a long level that changed things up, it just went on a big long in some parts.

My least favorite levels can't really be specific here. My least favorite activity though in levels, which is why its more than one level, are any of the levels in 06 that forced you to autorun. Even worst were the areas where you autoran with the camera pointed behind you. I have never been able to get get all the achievements in 06, and sections like this, combined with the constant loading often make them the most annoying levels to me.

Sandopolis Act 2 hands down.

When I was a kid first playing this level, the ghosts freaked the hell outta me. To this day I let out a huge sigh of relief every time I hit one of the light switches.

Oddly enough I love the music in this zone, even though I hate the level.

There might be a zone that I actually hate, but I could never really grasp the popularity of Sonic 2's Sky Chase Zone and its music.
It doesn't fit at all.

The Zone is called "Chase", but nothing in it appears to be even remotely dramatic. The plane cruises leisurely along, the sky and clouds are beautiful, and the music suggests "relaxing balloon ride" more than anything.

I wonder if that was done on purpose, or if it was just the track they ended up with after requesting "music for a plane flight" - and then maybe they had to adjust the looks of the stage to not make it contradict the music so much due to time constraints... huh.

Mystic Cave Zone and Hilltop Zone can suck a dick, I hate those stages from Sonic 2 because of how mundane and tedious Mystic Cave is and it's cheaply placed enemies and spike pits, I hate Hilltop just because its "that stage with the rising lava and annoying swing Badniks" I hate the swings too ugh.

Hill Top Zone can suck a dick

I second that.

The art direction looks horrible, the level colours is just so bland and the music is rather dull. The level feels totally out place between Casino Night and Mystic Cave. The gimmicks are annoying and the rising lava is just a pain. Placing a starpost just before the end of Act 1 (where there are no enemies) was a stupid idea. I always get the feeling Hill Top was a level thrown in at the last second.

I hate White Acropolis in Sonic 06. The snow boarding section plays like shit. The level is just so open and tedious to get through, especially when you have to drive a vehicle with Shadow.

There's an alternate path that you can take to avoid the rising lava. Just head up in Act 2 and it's a slow rising hill instead. Accidently found that one a few months back (weird considered I love HTZ).

Not a fan of hilltop and mystic cave either. The fact that they're back to back completely demoralizes you.

Hilltop is troll for wanting to go fast. So many bs things can happen in mystic cave. Always where I got dominated as a kid.

I can't think of any other zone than the one that tested my patience in my first run of Sonic 2 (MS/GG).

Green Hills Zone Act 3.

Expect to die a lot here if you played it for the first time.

This act is oddly structured. You have to use springs to advance, but you can't tell where you'll land at first sight, and here lies the problem: SPIKES! They're placed in the entire act! (mostly).
There's not other way than memorize which spring is the ideal to move and hope to land in the right spot.

The screen doesn't help even in both versions. Although the Master System screen makes the act to be less harder to deal with, the game Gear screen makes it a lot harder than it looks.

There's to remember that the act 3 is where the boss lies, so no rings to protect you meanwhile. Good Luck!

Do the challenges in Sonic Generations count as a zone? Because the challenges were the only part of Sonic Generations that got on my nerves. Oy, I couldn't get through that dang Vector level if someone payed me to. The challenges were a pain and rarely fun for me.

The Vector level did take me some time to complete, but I did manage to complete it. Getting all the achievements out of sonic generations is nowhere near as hard as getting them all in unleashed like I did. 06's achievements, yeah good luck with that.

I have a new level I hate. The final four (counting boss battles) in the Hero story in Adventure 2. I went from twenty-eight lives to ten lives on them. To remind people:

Crazy Gadget (Sonic)

Tails vs. Robotnik

Final Rush (Sonic)

Sonic vs. Shadow

In that order.

Wacky Workbench can go to hell for eternity.

This level is an absolute MESS and easily the one part of Sonic CD I 100% despise. The level design has literally no flow to it and that god-forsaken bouncy floor doesn't help matters at all.

Any, ANY Spring based level from Sonic Colors. How is bouncing off of a spring and having to worry about falling in a bottomless pit the whole time fun in the slightest?

Recently did this level and I wondered why the heck would sonic team make a level like this that literally drags on forever unless you know the emerald placements.

Oddly, when I started playing SA2 for A-Ranks (like, an eternity ago), I enjoyed the Knux/Rouge levels a LOT more than Tails/Eggman's. The more you learn about the location-hints, the more fun it gets. Unfortunately, the randomness also made for random A-Rank results, especially in larger stages.

Anyway, for "casual" players the system from SA1 is more comfortable and I wanted to have it back on more than one occasion. But if you get to know the stages, the other one also works pretty well.
