Sonic Generations : General Hacking Thread

i have no idea what ssh is, but it's obviously Ocean Palace, Seaside Hill didn't have the ruins.

SSH is Seaside Hill.

They make up the entirety of the second half of the stage.

Yet it's pinball. Like you said wasn't there, and it very clearly is, even if you have to pay for it.

Mini stage, not part of the standard content in the game either. I just don't get how you can count it, but okay.

It is an Eggman base though. It's his factory. Therefore, it's an Eggman base. It fits every description of an Eggman base (mechanical, constant traps, large factory) even though it's the second level.
It's still not one of the big evil bases you come across at the end of the game. There's not much representation of the ol' doctor, a big part of Sonic's history.

Green Hill has you running on mountains, in fact that's the entire level. The whole place are giant mountains sticking out of the sea. It also has you going though caves, like Red Mountain. Dragon Road is more of a stretch to call a mountain stage, because you're never actually in or on a mountain, although you often go through valleys of some kind.

Just because it doesn't fit in the giant rocky everything is brown possibly lava doesn't mean it's not a mountain. It's still dizzying heights, large view of surrounding scenery and such. It fits.

Not to mention Flame Core is a volcano/lava stage more than a mountain. It'll more than likely be in Crisis City as well.

GHZ isn't a mountainous stage like ones I listed. It's very much tropical, even if there are mountains. It's very much a different thing.

Again though guys, it's the selection of levels as a whole.

Please let there be those giant turtles sonic can walk on in Sonic generations' version of Ocean palace/seaside hill!

YES! That was my favorite part of Ocean Palace!

EDIT: Also...wow, a lot of offensive dialogue going on around here...well, time to make some popcorn. B)

This is the part we aren't getting. We're describing to you how varied and iconic these levels really are. I keep looking at that list, and with the exception of Ice Cap Zone and a proper Casino level (which is being represented as DLC, showing that they're aware of it's importance) I can't see them picking a more appropriate level list. It's varied, it's iconic, and everything screams Sonic the Hedgehog.

You know, I just remember how City Escape Classic's BGM has part of Endless Mine in it. Makes me wonder if they're going to try doing that with classic remixes of other modern stages too. Like maybe Stardust Speedway or Starlight Zone in Speed Highway, Aquatic Ruin in Seaside Hill, and Lava Reef in Crisis City.

Sega should just drop Crisis City and put in Collision Chaos instead. Not only do we reduce the city level count by one, but we also get a pinball stage to spice things up even more. It would also balance the ratio of classic and modern levels a little more.

Kingdom valley(or lost world), and lava reef, Egg fleet with maybe emerald coast would have IMO made it more diverse in tropes and variety. But this works to i guess. ;)

Wow...I completely forgot about that section of Seaside Hill! I need to boot up Sonic Heroes sometime.

TRYIN' THIS AGAIN: LESS OF A JERK EDITION

Not much to be honest with you, but it's still something about the theme of this game.

So if you admit that the differences are minimal at best, maybe the problem is less one of the game's and more your perception? Maybe if you tried looking at the level for what it is (a factory with a city in the background you could appreciate it more? The same might go for other levels, too (The majority of Speed Highway, for example, takes place in the tops of skyscrapers, which is a different monster entirely from the streets of San Francisco).

Perhaps a change in perception will help to recognise that, no, not all of these levels are exactly the same. They share traits, yes, but they all have their own different and unique personalities.

That would imbalance it. It's divided into three eras, not two. Why don't people understand that?

And removing Crisis City would effectively remove the token fire level.

Next time ST does Generations this should be the levels they pick.

Labyrinth Zone

Metropolis Zone

Marble Garden

Windy Valley

Rail Canyon

Wave Ocean

Empire City

Asteroid Coaster

So varied...So Iconic...

*sigh*

There's too much that ISN'T there. I fully agree with you that there's variation between the levels included in Generations. There is however a huge amount that's missing, while the bulk of the stages we have been given are spins on just two tropes. Are you honestly telling me you don't see where I'm coming from at all?

Can someone tell me why Sky Sanctuary is considered as such a Godly stage? I wanted Icecap (or Hydrocity) instead of Sky Sanctuary...

Either SEGA is keeping this list predictable, so they can rake in a little extra cash from DLC of additional stages (which I wouldn't mind paying for, given how much effort has gone into all of this).

OR SEGA just put in a fake list with some fake screenshots because they knew from day 1, that we would look for and extract every last frop of information from the Demo (we're so predictable).

I'm banking on the former.

I'm sorry, I don't. All I see is that the presence of civilization irks you somehow. A huge amount is missing, I can agree to an extent, though... but you have to stuff in 20 years into one game, and all Sonic games on the HD consoles boast no more than 9 levels.

Okay, fuck this discussion then. I've said what I think, and now I'm just getting annoyed with repeating myself. I'm being treated as though I'm unreasonably hating on the game. I'm not. I'm very reasonably being disappointed with the selection of levels, after looking and considering it from every angel.
