Huh, really? I hope there's a decent amount of Microgames at least. I love WarioWare on GC because it was cheap, had a nice microgame selection and minigames made up of microgames and stuff.

 

I honestly had no idea there were microgames, you'd think they would make that more obvious.

Well, my Wii U gets used mostly on alternate Fridays, when my shift is down and I haul it into work.  We had a four-person (three- character) NSMBU game going last week, to much hilarity.  At home, it mostly gets my daily weigh-in and some Amazon Instant streaming, but LEGO City was part of my preorder package, so hopefully I'll get that this week.

 

It's not entirely the fault of the system, though;  the Skyrim DLC only finally came out on PS3 last month, so I'm neck-deep in ash and vampires while hunting for goat horns to light my new houses with.  And even Ni No Kuni got tabled for that.

I thought Skyrim was nigh-unplayable on the PS3.

 

Granted, I consider Skyrim in general pretty damn boring without mods, so eh.

So yeah, like I mentioned earlier, Deus Ex Human Revolution: Director's Cut has officially been announced.

The Director's Cut offers a full slate of Wii U GamePad features including touch-screen hacking, interactive map editing, augmented sniping, grenade throwbacks and many other neural hub enhancements. Along with in-depth Miiverse integration, the Director's Cut also provides access to developer commentaries and in-game guides.

Tongs's Rescue mission and the entire Missing Link chapter have also been integrated seamlessly into the narrative flow of the Director's Cut. Other core Deus Ex: Human Revolution augmentations include overhauled boss fights, refined game balance and combat, improved AI, and striking visual improvements which make this edition the best looking and most immersive Deus Ex experience available.

-Each of the game's three boss fights have had their map layouts reworked to provide players with alternative potential strategies. New hacking challenges are available to players who focus on hacking, and stealth options are available to those who focus on stealth. You can now kill the bosses without firing a single bullet

-On Wii U the energy system has been made more forgiving by allowing for two energy cells to recharge by default on all but the hardest difficulty. This should mean players use Jensen's augmentation powers more freely.--So now, on Wii U, you can use the GamePad to see enemy health, armour type (heavy, medium or light) and loot. The idea is this will let players plan their moves better; by checking loot you'll be able to identify a target who is carrying a pocket secretary, which may contain the code for a locked door you're after, or decide not to go into a room because it's packed with heavies with loads of hit points.

-You can also use the GamePad to navigate the menus, to display the map, the augmentation system, the inventory and all the rest. "All the systems are now linked to the Neural Hub," Dugas continues. "All your maps, your inventory, your augmentation menu, your mission log, are now systems in Adam Jensen.

-There are swipe controls, too. One new feature, called grenade throwback, allows Jensen to equip a proximity detector that alerts him to a nearby grenade. So, if an enemy chucks a grenade at you, the GamePad will vibrate, and you can swipe the touch-screen to pick it up and lob it back.

-You can also use the touch-screen for the hacking mini-game, using your fingers to progress, and to punch in codes. Meanwhile, for weapons that have a scope, such as the sniper rifle, you can use your telly to centre on your target, then enter a precision mode using the touch-screen, which displays the cross-hair.

-Included in this "ultimate package" is all of the DLC, but it has been retrofitted to slot seamlessly into the main game. The Missing Link DLC is now included in the main story rather than separated out, and the pre-order bonus mission to rescue Tong's son is popped in, too.

-There's Half-Life 2-style director's commentary, what amounts to some eight hours of chat from Eidos Montreal developers. Icons dotted around the world can activate this voice over, and you're free to continue playing as you listen.

... Huh.

With this and Need For Speed Most Wanted U getting the extra-extra treatment, honestly, these late ports have me tempted.

And they even fixed the awful boss fights. As long as this isn't full price, I'm sold.

Hearing that the fixed up the bosses is pretty cool.

 

I had the most fun playing HR as a stealth game. Virtually every firefight I got into in the game was super fucking boring so it pleases me to see that they're legitimizing it more as opposed to half assing it like they did in the original. release. God the bosses were annoying. 

 

Hearing the "you can finish the game without firing a single bullet" thing is interesting... Thief 4 made a similar claim about how you could finish that game without any kills too. Perhaps true stealth, or non lethal gameplay is becoming a meme among developers now.

Never played this game, what was wrong with the boss fights exactly?

The original Deus Ex's design philosophy was that you could focus on mastering any sort of skill/perk (within reason), be able to approach any situation and still beat the game. If you wanted to do a stealth run without killing you could do that, and you didn't even need to fight bosses. You could just ditch them completely.

Most of that is mostly intact in Human Revolution and there's an extreme amount of freedom available but unless you decide to focus on a gun-based commando build the bosses will wreck your shit since they're only designed to be fought that way.

Basically, the bosses were outsourced to a developer who thought the game was a regular shooter. The only way to defeat bosses is through combat.

 

Mind you, you can easily get away with killing bosses without firing a shot. All of them go down easy with the Typhoon, Barret can be killed by chucking explosive objects scattered around the arena at him, and Namir has a glass jaw if you catch him just as he's vaulting over a wall.

I never actually finished Human Revolution.  The game felt kind of restricting because of how the bosses were made; I wanted to go all stealth and that just doesn't fucking work on the bosses, it was irritating.  

 

I might just pick this one up, I love the concept behind Human Revolution, giving you freedom to play the way you want to play both in narrative via dialogue trees and gameplay.  All the tweeks and updates they say they're making are sounding pretty damn sexy right now.

I am actually in the exact same boat. Got sick of getting ironwalled by the bosses, and some other stuff throughout so I just stopped playing. Patch this stuff into the PC version please!

I really don't like the price. I bought Need for Speed on the Wii U since it was only $29.99. Seeing Deus Ex for $49.99 seems a bit too high. I was hoping it would be imo a more reasonable $39.99 price. You can easily get the game on PS3/PC for less than $19.99.

 

I guess the DLC being built in and extra perks gives it extra value, but 30 dollars more? Eh...

As someone who has never played Human Revolution (or any Deus Ex game for that matter) but is quite intrigued by the concept behind it from what I've read, can someone tell me why - or indeed if - I should check it out? Could do with some more games to beef out my Wii U library and this one looks like it could be an interesting addition.

- off-TV play

- annotate map with text or voice annotations

- these are recorded via the GamePad mic

- you can share these annotations via Miiverse

Hey, here's an idea, Eidos. It's called using a fucking button. Don't even think about telling me you don't already have enough to work with.

 

Besides that, I'm honestly intrigued. If it comes with the DLC preloaded I'll probably go straight for it when it comes out.

All the DLC content has been seamlessly integrated into the main game, according to Edios.

Yeah, my friends told me that the DLC "restarting" the game progress was really annoying. Integrating it into the game should give it the best experience.

Yeah all the retailers are worried too.

 

My guess is Nintendo are currently redoing their marketing scheme for the WiiU completely and probably pumping a lot of money into it, and will be rolling it out in the coming months in full force.

 

Things usually get really quiet before they get really loud.. Nintendo aren't stupid enough to not realise their marketing needs to be huge.
