General Nintendo sales/business discussion topic (previously: The Wii U Thread)

Took the Wii U to my brother's for Thanksgiving. Me, bro, bf, and the three nieces played until the GamePad had to be plugged back in, mostly five-person games in the Luigi's Mansion and Mario Chase areas of NintendoLand. We had some freezing issues (the Miiverse has a separate control system in-game from the main console's and while I had set the latter to 'English only', I wasn't aware of the former), but everyone had a ball, with sister-in-law and my parents having as much fun watching. The best was my middle niece, who's six, calling out 'I'm in the red! I'm now in the green, where is everyone!" and then discovering after she won that she'd been lying, causing all the players chasing her to pile into the wrong sections of the game area to hunt for her. I left the nieces begging their father for a system of their own, completely unaware that Aunt Thrippa had left one in the corner of the room wrapped up in silver paper.

I did, however advise my brother to prep the console before he presented it to them, and that he wasn't required to wait for Christmas. He had magnanimously informed me that I could start saving to get him one for his birthday next year, so when I lucked into one on launch day, I nabbed it for his family.

I do hope they can get the multi-language issue patched; I rather enjoyed running into french-speaking (er, french-writing) characters in the NintendoLand plaza, and I'd like it back when there are even more languages available.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent pre-order for a Wii U console.

You may have seen that Nintendo have confirmed a market wide shortage of stock for this product at launch.

However we are pleased to confirm that we will be able to deliver your order on the release date of 30th November.

We hope you enjoy your new Console!

Kind regards

Guess i don't need to worry now! biggrin.png

Now, I played the Wii U at my friends house. I must say, I was very impressed. The controller is comfortable in your hands, optional 5 player in some games if you are using the Wii U Gamepad. Such as New Super Mario Bros U, You can play with four players, then have someone make the platforms with the wii U gamepad. The home screen is A LOT better then the 16 spaces home screen the wii had. The in game home button, has a variety of options. You can check your online friends, or even browse the internet while in game. Overall I think the Wii U was well made by Nintendo. The only downside is the shortage of systems, I have one, but I can't open it until Christmas.

http://mynintendonew...l-be-a-success/

Nolan K. Bushnell, the founder of Atari and the godfather of the games business has told The New York Times that he’s actually baffled by Wii U. Bushnell went on to say that he doubts Nintendo will ever be a major import ever again, and that it feels like the end of an era for the company.

“I actually am baffled by it. I don’t think it’s going to be a big success.”

“These things will continue to sputter along, but I really don’t think they’ll be of major import ever again. It feels like the end of an era to me.”

Yeah, I agree with Atari. Nintendo's gonna have to do alot more then show some gimmicky Touch screen'd DS if they want to show the world they mean business.

The future is now Nintendo, the next big thing is

Phone Controllers.

The Jaguar was ahead of its time.

Well, the Wii U freeze-up thing isn't Nintendo Land-exclusive. I was just playing NSMBU and it froze up on me right after I beat a boss. It didn't have the loud buzzing noise this time, but it's still an annoyance.

I may have to contact Nintendo support on this, because I have the concerning feeling that this is gonna be a regular thing.

That's actually a common problem with most Wii-U users.

Nintendo said they're gonna try and work out a freezing patch, but unfortunately it may not be ready till mid December.

There's supposed to be a patch coming out this week to deal with the freeze issue, so you may want to wait until then. And it's not a NintendoLand-specific issue; it seems to happen to all Miiverse-linked games, as well as on the main Wii U and Miiverse menus. There are just a lot more NinLands out there than anything else. I've had the issue (with horn) both on the main menu and NinLand, although not since I switched to English-only posts. I'm hopeful that after the patch I'll be able to switch back.

The reason why people connected it to NintendoLand was the Miiverse integration.

NSMBU also has Miiverse integration so it could be the same problem here.

In other news, Miyamoto was locked in a bathroom in Spain.

Finally, we have details on how Miyamoto almost missed a royal appointment by being locked in a bathroom.

...on a recent trip to Spain, he'd been due to meet two members of the royal family, but owing to a door lock malfunction, was instead imprisoned in a hotel bathroom. Under increasing pressure to free him, someone eventually hacked down the door with a crowbar before a police escort whisked him, sirens blaring, to his royal appointment.

Will it take inspiration from the 3DS successful title "If I Were in a Sealed Room With a Girl, I Would Probably XXX" where you can interact with Miyamoto while trapped in the bathroom or will it be a completely new game?

I think the real question is

Will it be a survival horror, or a first person shooter?

Probably not as big as the bomb Miyamoto inevitably dropped in that loo.

To be fair, at least this one had a relevant (if not strange) jump point and wasn't just people going "LOL Wii sounds like wee".

What the hell man.

I wonder what the people buying want it for so badly? People with too much money joking around?
