God dammit Adventure Time! How could you leave us with more unanswered questions? How old is PB really? What's going to happen with that amulet? What more does PB know that isn't being told? Gah!

And the thing with the ghost lady...I did not see that coming!

Oh Season 5, what else do you have in store for us?

Well I kinda suspected PB to be pretty dag old after the Simon and Marcy episode with the living Bubblegum their, through now we got a tiny bit more detail on that, as well a the slimy ghost girl that appeared awhile ago.

http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-vault,102643/

A great episode that explores the past of Ooo, builds up its world, and makes you want yearn for more of it even when mysteries like the ghost from The Creeps have been explained as well as being. Not to mention dabbling into metaphysical and spiritual elements like atonement, reincarnation, etc. something not usually found in most kid shows.

Highlights: Finn sleepwalking, Jake: “It’s alright. It’s only like the fifth room you’ve trainwrecked this month.”, Minecraft and Super Hexagon reference, Finn's past lives as a comet, a butterfly (Finn's Astral Beast from Still), a bubble-gum like substance (Simon and Marcy?), and Shoko, who has one arm and later gets a mechanical one (a theme throughout AT with Finn: King Worm, Finn the Human, Puhoy), Bath Boy Gang, the beginnings of the Candy Kingdom with PB and the Gumball Guardians, Shoko's sad history of her abusive parents (selling her arm for a computer and abandoning her at a dojo), Shoko and PB friendship and bonding, little Peppermint Butler and PB's BF Mr. Creampuff (from the first episode), Shoko getting mutated by the radioactive river and dying under the tree, PB's accent over the phone, and Finn's atonement and the vault feeling lighter.

Why the fuck is Bubblegum alive in like the middle ages

So glad Finn brought up that bullshit

You know, if they actually come out and say she somehow gained immortality (since she seemed to look no younger in the past than she is now) then that whole "I'm not going to live forever" she said in "Goliad' is not going to mean anything unless there's more to this on how she became immortal.

I kind of assumed that was her ancestor or something since the episode, 'Susan Strong' indicated she had relatives ruling the kingdom prior to her. But since she was there during the kingdom's construction, that may not be true anymore.

I think PB's semi-immortal; she doesn't age, but she can still be killed. After all, she had almost died when Ice King accidentally dropped her into the Lich's pool of death, and she was clearly emotionally scarred by it, which gave her the ultimatum that led to Goliad's creation.

This was a great episode but yeeeeeeah it messed with my head.

It was already obvious that PB ages differently than everyone else in Ooo, but this seemed to show that PB was the founder of the Candy Kingdom, rather than the inheritor of it... it's not clear if the Candy Kingdom was founded some time after the Mushroom War or  just after it (the pink goo Simon gets the chicken soup from)? aggh, my brain!

Still, some funny moments. Like Jake's nonchalant attitude to Finn wrecking the rooms (as long as he gets his sleep!) and PB's "Hallo Bubblegum hier".

Ah, that's true. Though she still was de-aged from that incident. Would that really affect her semi-immortality then?

Hmm... not sure. From the looks of things, I think PB's physical age depends on how much "gum mass" her body accumulates. There weren't enough pieces of her physical being to be salvaged, so she reverted to being 13 years old physically as a result. However, she was able to regain her 18 year old form by absorbing the candy matter from the candy people. That said, she could probably be killed if you destroyed enough- if not all of her gum mass and preventing her from "regenerating" or restoring her gum mass. Though, that's just my theory.

http://www.avclub.com/articles/love-games,102938/

Even though Finn has stated that he is going to save princesses rather than dating princesses, he still can't leave the love scene as Slime Princess asks him to marry her (in name only that is) to save Ooo and gets drag into the Love Games. A good episode for worldbuilding and get to see more of Slime Princess well as fleshing out her character a bit more.

Highlights: Finn and Jake doing a podcast with BMO at the soundboard, SP's explanation of how she'll lose her spot in the kingdom, Ice King"I have no intention of locking this down.", Jake's punny comments and rationing a single piece of popcorn, Tree Trunks and Mr. Pig cameo in the triple-cray dance studio, Blargatha, Guillermo, and Elder Plops, Finn's and Blargatha's song, the entire Spooning challenge with Finn squirming away from SP, "Wrap those gorgeous pipe arms around me!", smooching barfs, Finn wanting to punch Guillermo, "More like a quick beating! Hey-o!", Blargatha's reasoning for being too hot, “I’m sorry, Blargatha, but you’re going to have to spend more time in your metaphorical prison in a real prison.”

http://www.watchcartoononline.com/adventure-time-season-5-episode-36-dungeon-train

http://www.avclub.com/articles/dungeon-train,103496/

Finn tries to get over his "lady sad" on the Dungeon Train, a train that continuously runs in a circle and has cars with unlimited monsters and tons of loot to grab. A nice homage to MMO/RPGs with such tropes of dungeon room repetition and hording so much treasure from similar looking baddies. Also, Jake's expression of boredom on the train is also reminiscent of people watching their friends play

GTAV video games. Definitely a good episode that really brings out the friendship between the dog and human as well as developing their characters.

Highlights: Finn: "What is the meaning of soup/spoon?", Jake: “Girls is like horses. When you fall down, it’s important that you get right back on again. On a different horse. And there’s a lot of fish in the scene. Lot of fish. Penny saved is a penny earned.”,  the majority of the loot that they obtain like the lightning sword, Spider Staff, and the cool Battle Moon, Finn's future in the Future Orb, Jake:“Fiiiinn, I made those biscuits with so much butter. You were just responding to the butter! This whole place is butter!”, Jake: “If you wish to join me, I’ll be in the treehouse experiencing the joys of life and not getting attacked by gorillas made out of hair.”, Jake resting his head on a hair ape while thinking about his kids which is huge char developing moment as Jake shows more parental instincts, and Finn going dungeon crazy and decked out in battle gear

Also, ever wondered what happens when you cross AT with Gauntlet? This piece of awesomeness right here (I don't think this has been talked about here):

http://www.avclub.com/articles/box-prince,103908/

I don't agree with the grade from the avclub. Sure it may be not on the level of last week's but still pretty good (B/B- at the least, IMO) and also a kingdom with cute cats in boxes with faces on them! What's not to love? Even AT's "average" episodes still tend to be above average with its creative and unique content, some memorable moments, and decent writing and animation.

Highlights: "Nah....chos", Finn following the box prince, The Box Kingdom, the changing expressions on the boxes, Finn's box hat, the prince's time in the litter box, "To live life, you need problems", BMO's flashback to Jake's lazy moments, Box Prince playfully retrieving his crown, "Floss is for losers", BMO watching Jake to get a piece of tortilla chip, BMO:"This is unsatisfying" Jake:"Zip it!", the cats jousting with cardboard tubes, and the ending with Finn and the cats.

For me it was adorable! :3

It was like a kingdom of Box Cat!

:D (as in... Cat Face's ultra-shy housemate.)

Sure it was less on the grand epic storyline side, but then again the first few series were all like this. Random, self-contained adventures. Not every episode can have mindblowing reveals.

I'm not asking for mindblowing reveals, I was just expecting something to be accomplished.

Gotta agree. The episode was alright, but the ending felt too abrupt. I was expecting Finn to sort out the issue with the Box Prince and then suddenly "D'AWW LOOK AT ALL THE KITTY CATS THE END."

http://www.avclub.com/articles/red-starved,104047/

Finn's colorblind? Who knew! We're definitely learning more about our heroes almost every episode along the way. Also, Marcy's face degenerating and suffering with redlust is pretty terrifying to say the least.

Highlights: Finn: “I thought we were going to get into some serious flavor with these sand people, but they’re just standing around like garnish.” Jake: “That’s how I feel. Like a dying parsley.”, the underground sand kingdom itself, Jake getting stuck in the quicksand and getting out with his flesh-drill, Jake:"No regrets!", Finn:"No! You'll bury us alive!" Marcy:"Undead!", Finn:"Oh well, gotta feed the Marcy monster.", Finn's exploration into the ruins and finding about more the sand people, Pretty much every scene involving Marcy and Jake alone and trying to eat each other (Hooray, cannibalism between friends), Finn trying to push the 'ruby'/emerald, Marcy's crazy look throughout the episode and her feeding on PB's red, and PB:“Peeps will never starve in my eternal empire. Sandworm, up!”

http://www.avclub.com/articles/we-fixed-a-truck,104481/

Only in the world of AT and with the help of Weird Al as a banana man could make car mechanics and repair fun and interesting. Really great comedic episode with plenty of funny moments. Also, I want a Hot Daniel!

Highlights: Finn's 'Found a Truck' rhyme, return of Banana Man AKA Weird Al and all his moments esp. the car mechanic education and his song, Finn: "Okay, cool. Informative. (Whispers) What is he pointing at?" , BMO:"This grease monkey is torqued up on automotive science. (Crushes aluminum can on head.) Yeah boyee!", Starchy's Graveyard Shift radio show, BMO:“They’re wrong! You look more like a hippo than a lizard.”, Hot Daniel's repaired design, car fixing and riding montages, hitting on the banana guard lady, lizard replica PB, “You ain’t got enough peel on that nanner!”, and RIP Hot Daniel.

I give this episode two thumbs up plus all the thumbs up Jake and Finn did during the episode.

http://www.watchcartoononline.com/adventure-time-season-5-episode-40-play-date

http://www.avclub.com/articles/play-date,105103/

A play date between AbracaDaniel and Ice King goes wrong that leads to Jake getting kidnapped by Kee-Oth in the end. It is also an episode that shows Ice King as the gross and pathetic villain than the sympathetic lost soul with a deep history, even though his ice kingdom was complete a long time ago and just wanted to hang out with Finn and Jake. Though now we know that Ice King speaks demon language, probably learned it from Marcy or Hunson Abadeer, perhaps a remnant during his Simon Petrikov years? Also, dang, I really liked Joshua's sword and really didn't expected this episode to end on a cliffhanger and be a two-parter, which is a shame that we need to wait for two weeks to watch the continuation of this.

Highlights: Flying home on a pterodactyl, the Bro talk between Finn and Jake, Jake:“Finn, I’m ready to murder the Ice King.”, Jake:"A sexy wizard like you goes wherever he wants!", Jake's nicknames for Abracadaniel (Abracadeez), Ice King's ice flower, IK and AbD bonding montage, Finn:"What the fleep.", BMO:"You made it!" when F&J comes in, the interpretive dance show, Abracadaniel's excuse for sleeping over, and the cliffhanger ending scene with the return of Kee-Oth.

http://www.watchcartoononline.com/adventure-time-season-5-episode-41-pit

http://www.avclub.com/review/the-pit-105748

A continuation of Play Date as Finn and Lady Rainicorn travel to the visually cool broken dimension to save Jake from the demon Kee-Oth. A bit of a risque episode especially with the with Jake's 'sex tape' like segments, small mentions of religious aspects, and the whole 'sucking' blood thing which can make someone bit squeamish. Also, interesting to see another dog person with the introduction to Samantha the goddess who seem to have an 'interest' in Jake as she has never seen another male dog in ages. Not to mention the ominous shot at the end with the opened door where she exited sounds like the start of another subplot in the near future and that Samantha is going to make another appearance to cause more (romantic) trouble for Jay T. Daw-er, Jake.

Highlights: Finn and LR's talk on the phone, Jake's Broke Up Dimension song, the Little Buddy and his death, Joshua's video segments, the Heat Signature 2 scene with BMO falling and the return of "Check Please!", BMO: “Would you like to rate this video?”, Jake and Samantha battle, Joshua: “Man, I can’t believe it. I gotta wee-wee again.”, Finn: “Demon blood beats demon.” Jake: “That is not correct.”, grape juice sword blessed by Shelby, and Finn: “Yo, guys. I still love Flame Princess.”, which definitely hints at Finn going to have another shot with FP sometime before season's end, and something tells me it's going to go as smooth as the events in 'Too Old'.

All-in-all, this was a superb episode.

Kinda liked this episode and would rate it higher than a C+, more like B/B-.

Here we get see more of the toxic monsters from Simon and Marcy! Not to mention the ending with the zombified toxic James and the rest of the goo monsters escaping the pit signifies a gooey invasion in the near future, probably season's end. Also, Brak's voice coming out of James is pretty funny.

Highlights: The whole funeral/Medal of Honor ceremony, Jake's Cuckoo Face, Trust Huddle scene, Jake:"I got a lady and 5 kids! I thought I'd outlive at least one of them!", Invisible flare gun, Finn willing to sacrifice himself, and PB revealing herself as the saboteur as she thought that sacrificing James was for the greater good.

I thought recognised that voice! I just couldn't remember where! :D

Anyways, yeah... nice episode.

Infers that PB knows what's in the area she wants to colonise, but didn't count on the goo monsters being there. Remember the pink ooze with the smiley face from Simon and Marcy? Soooo, we're gonna get to find out what that stuff was? Are the goo monsters gonna raid the Candy Kingdom, or the rest of Ooo? I wonder if any of these would jog Simon's memory?!

I thought it was already confirmed that Candy people (specifically PB) evolved from those goo monsters.. Hence she wants to colonize. I don't remember where I heard that though.
